134: For a moment you were concerned that Kai might run for the Damp Rock, leaving Uhane on their own, but thankfully the Vaporeon doubled back. The last thing you needed was this to turn into a beatdown on the shimmering owl. After all of the abuse and everything else you'd been put through today, you just wanted to get this over with. Kai seemed to have the same line of thought, and the Pokemon's attacks were efficiently brutal.

A helping hand to their teammate, boosting the pain dealt by the sharp rush of leaves that the Rowlet dealt, and the hydro cannon both combined to deal a heavy blow to the Mareanie. The poison type wasn't quite unconscious but it was certainly on its last legs so to speak. Being water type, hydro cannon was at a disadvantage even with the pouring rain, and razor leaf was neutral in its effect. Still, they were powerful, and Kai had chosen a good time to use the move. The rain was beginning to peter out, the clouds very slowly starting to make way for the glorious Minnaoan sun.

Kai had to recharge, an obvious heel which the enemy took advantage of. The Mareanie launched toxic spikes all over the battlefield, a hazard to both you, your party and any rescue or other adventurers that might step on them. They could easily be missed on the dark, wet ground. It began to use recover, too, the creature glowing as she tried to heal from the devastating damage your duo inflicted on her. As for the Crawdaunt, who had gotten off easy this round, it tried to rush Uhane with a night slash attack. Meanwhile, the poison in Uhane's veins chipped away...

What do you do?

This vacation sucked. Tate just wanted it to be over. Kai was breathing hard. With the Vaporeon still catching her breath, things got a little more dicey. Tate wasn't a battler by any stretch of the imagination, but Kai was scrappy and could usually hold her own. ‘Uhane, however, wasn't much of a battler, and was going to be vulnerable until Kai recovered.

‘Uhane, to her credit, was determined. She had a certain sense of chivalry about her, and she felt compelled to do her job in protecting the Chatot. The wind whistled ominously as the storm above began to clear away. ‘Uhane trembled faintly as the toxins began seizing her.

And then she began to glow.

Tat watched in awe as the white-hot mass where ‘Uhane had previously stood grew and warped. When the light cleared, a vaguely similar looking bird stood, her feathers the same beautiful, shimmering turquoise.

"Driiiita," the bird cooed. Tate's PokeDex beeped, prompting the trainer to retrieve it from one pocket. Unlocking the screen, Tate found that the system had registered the evolution. A notification at the top of the screen read:

Congratulations!
Your Rowlet (‘Uhane) has evolved into Dartrix!

"Sweet," Tate breathed, as ‘Uhane took flight on much larger, much stronger wings. Looking up from the PokeDex, attention now on the newly evolved Dartrix, Tate felt new determination.

"Se if you can take 'em out with a Razor Leaf!" the trainer yelled, trying to help. Tate was ready to be done with this nonsense.

OOC: ‘Uhane the Rowelet evolves into Dartrix. ‘Uhane the Dartrix uses Ominous Wind, Fly, and Razor Leaf.

134: With Kai forced to recharge after the heavy blow that she had dealt, it was up to Uhane to carry this turn. The Pokemon did this with style, evolutionary light illuminating your little area of the forest as the Rowlet grew into a Dartrix. The huntress looked aggravated beneath her hood, and was even moreso when the Crawdaunt's strike was dodged with flight.

Ominous wind was produced from the bird's feathers as Uhane took to the air, much more agile and powerful than before. With some height gained, the annoyed crab was dove upon and practically ploughed down into the ground. Dartrix landed elegantly, then rose its feathers, beginning to form deadly blades of flurrying grass. “Protect, Crawdaunt! Then swift on the bird! Mareanie, venoshock on that Vaporeon!”

The razor leaf could have been the finishing blow for the Crawdaunt, had it only landed, but that wasn't to be, and now Mareanie had recovered some health during Kai's downtime, the grass move barely hurting it at all. The Vaporeon was ready to resume the battle on your order, the watery opponent preparing a nasty liquid that it hurled through the air towards her. Uhane had of course taken the 'swift' attack, another battering on top of the toxic it was enduring. You wanted this nonsense to be over? Well, time was of the essence, and who knew whether or not that evolution would've given your position away...

For the love of Celebi, was this ever going to end? Tate swallowed a frustrated noise; at least Kai had caught her breath. Kai was the hard hitter of the team, for better or worse. The Vaporeon had no intentions of dying today, nor did she intend to let anything befall her idiot trainer, or her long-suffering teammate, or even the chatty bird who had tried to save Tate from unavoidable personal failure. Actually, Kai sort of liked the Chatot -- it had tried so hard, to very little avail. Kai could relate to that experience; loving Tate was difficult and exhausting.

"Once ‘Uhane gets off the ground, I want you to tap into whatever hidden power stores you have left," Tate pleaded with the Vaporeon, expecting the Dartrix to take flight again any moment. Tate wasn't much of a battler nor the leader type; giving orders was largely beyond the purview of the trainer's wheelhouse. Sometimes, however, you gotta step up. Tate was trying. "Try to take down that Mareanie, it's the bigger threat-"

Kahakai narrowed her eyes at the Poison type, powerful tail swishing. The thick, taut muscles of the appendage were hard as iron when the quadruped tensed, ready for a fight. ‘Uhane focused her attention on the Crawdaunt, eager to end this as well. She wanted to rest, and preen her trashed plumage. Duty called first, however; a call that was getting harder to answer due to the poison coursing through her system. Here was hoping this ended soon.

OOC: Kahakai the Vaporeon uses Hidden Power (Ground-type) and Iron Tail on Mareanie. ‘Uhane uses Fly on Crawdaunt.

134: Fighting wasn't your strong suit, and although you were trying, your Pokemon were basically carrying you like the scrublord casual that you were. No wonder Kai found you so damn exhausting! Thankfully 'Uhane did as expected, taking flight into the air and waiting for its moment to strike. It was waiting for its teammate, who was executing its own orders.

The water-type's tail seemed to shine in a way that was almost metallic, the bone within it hardening so that when it rushed forward, it slammed the poison-type with some severe power. However, that wasn't the end of it. With every brace and bound, Kai's paws and claws had been alight with white, leaving pretty pools in their wake-- ones that made the ground shake. Her Hidden Power had coursed through the earth, quaking beneath Mareanie – and likely radiating to Crawdaunt, too, given that you could feel faint tremors – and striking effectively. It made up for where Iron Tail was weak against the bigger threat.

Satisfied that it was safe, 'Uhane came down for the killing blow, breaking through a second set of swift that Crawdaunt had shot through its pincers. The Dartrix had brutally knocked out its target, gaining four levels in the process and one for Kai, but that seemed to be all that the bird had left. The toxins flowing through had the Dartrix flopping off its claws in a slump, breathing ragged and altogether weary. Unless you healed 'Uhane, it was time for a withdrawal or a switch. “Return, Crawdaunt.” The cultist snarled, recalling their charge in a beam of red. You wanted this to end and so did they, and they weren't making it easy.

“Mareanie, use toxic on that Vaporeon and venoshock. Let's put them down.”

What do you do?

‘Uhane the Dartrix grew from Lv. 23 to Lv. 27!
Kahakai the Vaporeon grew from Lv. 76 to Lv. 77!

‘Uhane all but crumpled to the ground as the toxins and the exertion finally exhausted the Dartrix. Tate unclipped a Luxury Ball from the poorly attached belt Kai had previously stolen, which now hung lopsided from its owners hips, threaded through only a single loop. Fumbling with it slightly, Tate recalled ‘Uhane into the ball to keep her safe. They still had Pouli, but the Fire- and Dark-type Houndoom wouldn't fare too well against the partial Water-type Mareanie. Though she'd taken some abuse, Kai was still the best bet they had right now.

The Vaporeon, sensing the danger and her own vulnerability, shook out her tense body. She shed tiny droplets of water as she did so, which hung like tiny aquamarine droplets in a halo-like ring around her. She looked refreshed, new vigor in her veins as she lowered herself close to the ground, before powering forward, planning to use the broad, flat part of her skull to bash the Mareanie as if by battering ram.

Tate turned a bespectacled gaze down to the small, colorful bird that had taken cover far behind the trainer and the dueling Pokemon. Truth was, the aspiring Alolan transplant felt bad for the Chatot, who had clearly tried to help. Tate probably should have listened more, although... why would a bird known or care enough about cultists to actively involve itself in thwarting them? It was an interesting question, but now was not the appropriate time to ponder it.

"Hey, so, look," Tate expressed to the Chatot, nervousness palpable. "Kai's pretty strong, and I still have Pouli with me, but-... if things go south, here, you should probably just bail. I, uh... don't want you to get hurt because of us, so... yeah."

With that uninspiring statement of good faith, Tate turned attention back to the battle, exhaling harshly. Here was hoping Kai was a tough enough cookie to get the job done.

OOC: Recalling ‘Uhane the Dartrix. Kahakai the Vaporeon uses Aqua Ring, Refresh, and Skull Bash.

134: The Mareanie's attacks struck true, but they were utterly useless against Kai, who was well prepared. Coating herself in an aquatic ring, she refreshed herself to shed the toxins from her body, acidic droplets hitting the forest floor with a sizzle. The cultist shrieked in tantrum, watching as the Mareanie took another brutal slam from Kai's skull bash. Things were so close to being over, the poison-type breathing laboured.

“I'm done with this! I'm done!” The pink-haired heathen screeched, her patience hitting her limit as yours had. Things went from bad to worse, however, as you saw more cloaked figures emerge from the brush, beginning to advance in a semi-circle. Kai's back arched, fins bristled in anger and caution. Chatot began to caw with fear.
“Don't worry, sister. We're here now.” One of the others spoke, masculine voice deep and soft and huskily dangerous. “You did well, stalling our thieves here. But their foolishness has come to an end. Step back, we can all finish this together, for our Lord Kyogre's sake...”

Your stomach knotted. You were surrounded by weapon-wielding, Pokemon-training psychopaths who were inevitably going to kill you – and probably the bird – for what you had done. You had ran so fast, fought so hard and apparently for nothing. You stared death in the face, unsure of what to do, until a sudden movement made your heart lurch. Chatot cut through the air, knocking down the Mareanie in the process, and after landing upon its unconscious body it attacked in a way you hadn't thought possible of the little alarm Pokemon. A shattering boom of sound burst from its beak, strong enough to make the foliage around rustle as if swept by a powerful wind. The cultists screamed and growled, covering their ears. Some of them fell to the ground or doubled over. You clamped your hands over your own ears, although the wave hadn't been directed your way. Through the ringing, you could hear Chatot telling you to run from danger. Kai shot you with a weak sport of water and barked, then turned tail to flee, teeth tugging at the belt you had to guide you before the cultists could recover. Chatot was in tow.

Best get moving, if you've learned anything from your mistakes... But where will you go?

Great. More running. While attending school in Goldenrod, Tate had once walked past a young woman wearing a novelty T-shirt which had read, "Running late is my cardo." At the time it had been worth a chuckle. Now, forced to once again flee for liberty and life, Tate was inexplicably reminded of that shirt. Maybe it was the white-hot burn in the trainer's chest as the trainer broke into a run, underutilized cardiopulmonary system struggling. Once her idiot caregiver had been spurned on, Kai made a detour in an attempt to retrieve her fallen rock, before rushing after Tate and the Chatot.

The world was still mostly quiet except for the shrill ringing in Tate's ears as the trio powered forward on a wing and a prayer. If they could just reach the ocean, Tate thought, they would be okay. Kai had experience riding the ocean surf, and was strong enough to support Tate in a pinch. If they just reached the ocean, they could make a break for the greater archipelago, where a denser population meant more people to tackle the terrorists. Kai had more or less the same idea -- hitting the ocean and getting the hell out of dodge, anyway -- and was focusing all her energy in anticipation for the escape. The Blue Orb, though not exceptionally large, felt heavy in Tate's hand, knuckles white from their desperate grip.

This sucked, and was stupid. Tate had just wanted to watch some birds, or meet some natives, or explore the wild and untamed wilderness. Tate didn't want to deal with gross religious fanatics. Fuck this whole day, Tate thought. Fuck it right in its ear.

134: Everything hurts, damnit, and you can't help but think back to your schooling days and the girl with her lack of punctuality and brilliant cardio. You'd think qith how much your life turns out like this, you'd take a hint and whip yourself into better shape, but if your life is to be inevitably cut short at the hands of the Gods, you might as well actually enjoy it while you have it and not waste it on constructive personal development and stuff. Ew.

You make it to the shoreline, and Kai practically dives into the water, and you follow suit. She's a lot stronger than her size suggests, so it's easy for her to help you along, but you have to keep the orb safe and make sure that the Chatot – which is still following you – doesn't tire out and drown. If things get worse, 'Uhane is a lot bigger now and could likely aid you in some way with her flight. Of course, you know those cultists favour the water, so speed is of the essence here... But the mainland looks so far...

You're eventually out of the Mints, and thankfully, the waters are not feeling vengeful today. Kai, however, is getting more and more tired by the second. You're technically in the area known as the Cordina Ocean now, close to the mainland but also with the Alloy Atoll in reach. There are blots on the horizon of differing speeds and sizes – most likely vessels like fishing and touristy boats, but knowing that you have the treasured Blue Orb, you do have to keep in mind that you don't want to draw any kind of attention. Nor do you wish to drown. What do you do?

That was a mood for Scurvy especially, who felt like his own consciousness was teetering dangerously close to the edge after the battering he took. Why couldn't he be a solid, walking forest-- but more agile? Life sucked.

Trunks gave a little trumpet of happiness when you came around, teetering on his tiny toesies. When you had been in paralysisland, every second had felt like an eternity to the Phanpy, who was scared by almost losing you so soon. Taking down that Feralgatr had made you seem invincible, but he is clearly realising that wasn't necessarily the case. Sure, you've taken down the poachers, but Scurvy nearly joined you on the floor and if Masao and Drifblim hadn't been here, what state would you have been in?

Slowly you get to your feet, but you're a bit unsteady anyway, which isn't surprising. Everything aches and feels stiff, or at least what you can feel does. Getting out the Net Ball was a chore of its own, albeit less of one than the poacher was having with his own Poke Balls. He's coming around, too, falling still and blinking around at the scenery. “Scurvy used some kind of move on him and the other Pokemon. They all ended up confused, it was a serious game changer.” Masao explained as the poacher looked up at Raphael, glowering nastily.

“I'm surprised you're even bothering to show me mercy. Is it because your good friend here is actually paying attention now, can see what you're doing?” That said, the sands had only stopped swirling now that Terra and Scurvy were off the field, the Galvantula almost entirely buried underneath. You reallyyyy needed to stop almost killing things, man. The poacher was sneering at you, but not for long. Masao's Drifblim had ghosted in front of them, eyes glowing blue. The poacher's eyes light up the same, and he slumps over asleep.

“That'll help. Can you return the fainted Pokemon, too? It should be the only empty balls over there, I hope.” Masao added, and he took out his phone. He was calling this in to the authorities, letting them know every detail so that they could pick up the hulking equipment as well as the criminals, and perhaps give you a lift away if you need. You'd have to give some sort of statement, to be fair, whether while in the Mints or back at their headquarters. To be fair, it was easier to have people come to you, rather than haul their unconscious arses through dense forest and over ocean waves. This place was reputed as treacherous even without human involvement.

Eventually they get here, setting up a bit of a scene. Trunks sticks close by. This is all very overwhelming for him. You give your statement to a detective after Masao gives his, the ranger agreeing to go back with the officials once everything is cleared up. It's his job to make sure things are nice and neat after all.

“Oh, hey. By the way, for helping me and Drifblim and keeping the place safe. Take these.” You already found an Oval Stone earlier thanks to Scurvy, but here Masao was, handing you a shiny stone and heart scale for your trouble. Neat!

Adventure Rewards:

1x Oval Stone
1x Shiny Stone
1x Heart Scale
$200

Now get out of my good Arceian zone, you fucking psychopath.
It had been a very long and eventful day in the Minnao Isles. Gary had fought off a renegade Feraligatr and saved his new precious little Phanpy and after dragging the oversized reptile across the ocean, encountered savage poachers in the jungle-like Mints. Now that he had fully recovered from his temporary paralysis, he stood in wait until the authorities arrived to arrest the defeated villains while holding the pudgy little elephant in his arms. Trunks happily poked at Gary’s cheek with his trunk while the towering Raphael kept his trademark cannons aimed at the poachers until they had been taken into custody.

It had been far from the ideal nature tour of the region’s diverse and beautiful environment, and to compensate Gary for his troubles, Masao offered him a generous reward. Not one to turn down a kind gesture, Gary thanked Masao for everything and assured him the experience didn’t dampen his opinion towards the archipelago. Once the poachers had been properly taken care of, Gary thanked Raphael for his vigilant eye and returned him to his Net Ball. As the sun had begun its downward descent over the horizon, it was time to get going. After thanking Masao for everything once again, Gary pocketed the items and made his way towards the shore where he recalled Trunks as well.

As he stared out at the waves that glistened with an orange hue from the fading sunlight, Gary was breath taken by the sheer beauty of it all. His short time here in Minnao would be one he’d never forget, and the islands would certainly be a place he’d hope to come back and visit again in the future. He had unfinished business here, after all. Sending his trusted Aero out into the shallow water once again, Gary climbed aboard the Mantine’s back. As the large ray skated across the waves away from the islands, Gary took one last look back.

Thank you so much for the great adventure, Alice! Claiming the following items:
1x Oval Stone
1x Shiny Stone
1x Heart Scale
$200

The sunny season has long been over, the rush of tourists beginning to slow, and the Isles of Minnao is gradually returning to what its inhabitants consider normalcy. The crazy cultists – the ones not devoured by schooling Wishiwashi and wandering Feraligatr, moody from defeat and interrupted naps – burrow into the sands for the winter months, to energize for their next attempts at stabbing foolish tourists who try to summon Kyogre; unruly gang children return to their forced academia and pesky Pokemon are left with only the locals to terrorise.

Whatever stupidity befell last summer's visitors – and last winter's, and spring, and this past summer, and part of Autumn and shut the frickle frackle up-- this gem of a place will surely be ingrained in their memories for better or worse. Definitely better, obviously. Of course, the chapters that unfolded here are only the beginning to Minnao's story, a taste of the mysteries and what is really happening here. Maybe it would be in one's best interests to visit again...? Unless you got bloody shot--

Because even if you can die, Minnao can't.

Minnao is FoReVeR.
