At the same time, Signal has released his Mist in order to prevent any of the teams stats to change. Ore’s claws begin to make contact with the log, in what it supposed to be consecutive Fury Swipes but is interrupted once Gladius slams into him with his Aqua Jet. The Sableye’s attack still managed to hit the log 1 ½ times and chipped the wood a bit before he was stopped. Gladius doesn’t pause for even a moment, as soon as his attack finishes he raises his arm up into the air, preparing to give Ore a Night Slash but Signal zaps his arm away with a sudden Shock Wave. Ore uses this opportunity to Shadow Claw the log with critical power! This puts a decent dent into the log, almost making up for the lack of extra swipes from his previous attack.

Meanwhile, Reaper the Scyther was getting ready to use his Night Slash on the log but was feeling a bit too paralyzed to move. To make matters worse, Odachi the Lurantis was too busy releasing a Sweet Scent, that didn’t really have much effect due to the Mist that was filling the area, to notice the incoming Ice Beam that was headed right for Reaper. The Beam of Ice crashed into the Scyther who was unable to move due to his status condition and sent him tumbling away. Reaper doesn’t even wait until he is fully back on his feet before he Slashes at the Air sending a blade of wind toward the log just before he gets pelted by a stream of stars coming from Cirrus’ Swift attack. With Cirrus’ attention on Reaper, Odachi attacks him a Leaf Blade just for the sake of it. Because Reaper had released the attack before getting hit by the Swift, the Air Slash cuts away at the log without any issue. Both sides are still pretty closely matched but this time it seems that your team is taking a slight lead.

“Alright, it looks like we’re going to have to fix that little problem of yours Reaper! Everyone, stay in position this round!” Despite your team leading, Samuel hasn’t stopped grinning. Although he’s competitive, it seems like he will be happy with whatever outcome. “Odachi, quickly use Aromatherapy to help Reaper out a bit! Then continue to use your Leaf Blade to defend Reaper from any incoming attacks. Reaper, you’re going to keep attacking that log! Use Fury Cutter and then give it another Air Slash! Gladius, get in there and take care of their cutter with a Confuse Ray followed by a Mud Shot!”
Samuel's Kabutops jetted over and slammed into Ore before Ore managed to get more than a hit and a half into his Fury Swipes, the Kabutops leaping straight into its next hit only to get zapped by Signal's timely Shock Wave. Ore muttered and glared at the Kabutops as he got back into position, channeling his frustration into his Shadow Claw and slicing deep into the log. At the sight of the sizable dent, he perked up.

On the other side of the log, Cirrus' Ice Beam shot straight at Samuel's Scyther, who...looked to be feeling the paralysis. Its follow-up Air Slash lands on the log just fine, though Cirrus manages to pelt it with Swift stars. It leaves him open to the Leaf Blade from Samuel's Lurantis, but once again, Grass versus Flying? Not much damage.

"Alright, it looks like we're going to have to fix that little problem of yours Reaper!" Samuel says, still grinning. He doesn't seem too bothered by the possibility that Melissa'd taken the lead, though, he was a Trial Captain. He had to be used to both winning and losing to people. "Everyone, stay in position this round! Odachi, quickly use Aromatherapy to help Reaper out a bit! Then continue to use your Leaf Blade to defend Reaper from any incoming attacks. Reaper, you're going to keep attacking that log! Use Fury Cutter and then give it another Air Slash! Gladius, get in there and take care of their cutter with a Confuse Ray followed by a Mud Shot!"

"Not so fast," Melissa said under her breath. "Signal, you and Cirrus are switching roles this round, so Sucker Punch the Lurantis to stop it from using Aromatherapy and then let's hit them with an Icy Wind." Signal blinked 'alarm', but hurried to get into a better position to attack. "Ore, Fury Swipes and Shadow Claw again, alright?" Ore chittered and nodded. "Cirrus, hit the Kabutops with a Solarbeam and Steel Wing." Cirrus circled back to their side of the log and prepared to defend Ore.

Things were really getting down to the wire now as both Jayson and Samuel’s sides of the log were nearly sawed through. Additionally, both of their Scythers had taken each other out in an epic clas, leaving both teams with only two Pokemon remaining. If Jayson was going to win the match, it was now or never, because it was uncertain how much longer Atalanta and Odysseus would hold up. Giving Odachi and Gladius even a sliver of time to make their next move could prove fatal to Jayson’s team. With that in mind, he quickly called out a strategy without a moment to waste.

As Odachi the Lurantis loomed over Atalanta and Odysseus, the Magneton stayed firm in protecting its teammate in order to buy her time. Odysseus released a series of electrical tendrils as Odachi was wrapped up by a Thunder Wave, preventing it from moving. Odachi grunted as she struggled to move forward, allowing Atalanta to slice into her log with an Air Cutter. Meanwhile, Gladius had gotten off another Fury Cutter on his side as Odysseus quickly broke its hold on Odachi and hovered to Gladius. Odysseus then blasted a screeching Supersonic noise that caused the Kabutops to reach up and cover his ear holes in distress, breaking his Fury Cutter combo. Odachi made a move for Atalanta, who was struggling to stay upright as she slashed into the log with a last-ditch Leaf Blade. The Lurantis released a flurry of razor sharp flower Petals that surrounded the owl like a Blizzard. When the attack finished, Atalanta collapsed to the forest floor, unable to go on any further.

“Is that it?” Samuel asked, peering over to see what had happened on Jayson’s side. Suddenly, there was a crack of splintered wood, and a thud as the sliver of log that Jayson had been working on broke off from the main trunk and landed in the dirt. It appeared as if Odachi’s attack had come just a moment too late, leaving Jayson’s team victorious. “Well I’ll be! That’s got to be the closest finish I’ve ever seen!” Samuel exclaimed, recalling his three Pokemon. He walked over and shook Jayson’s hand like a good sport. “That was some quick thinking there at the end; you really pulled the rabbit out of that hat!” Samuel grinned and pulled out a small metal pin and handed it to Jayson. “Well, here you are- you deserve it. This Cutter Badge will gain you access to the waterfall, if you wish to go up the mountain! You’re welcome to try out the other trials down here though; there’s one in the Rose Garden and one at the Stone Shrine. Here, take this as well, as commemoration for your victory.”

Congratulations for winning the Log-Cutting Challenge! Jayson has been awarded a Cutter Badge as well as a TM Fury Cutter. With his victory, Jayson now has access to the second level of the Cloud Garden after passing through the Starline Waterfall first. Additionally, he is free to continue exploring the lower level of the Cloud Garden if he pleases. The choice is yours.

Odysseus has grown 4 levels!
Atalanta has grown 3 levels!
Spartacus has grown 2 levels!

Patches:
The Pancham bully was not ready to back down from its position, but Stufful had decided that enough was enough; he was going to take the abuse no more. Standing firm before Kei, Patches, and Mio, Stufful was ready to give all it had to defend his newfound friends and stand up for himself. Taking advantage of the moment, Patches eagerly hurried over to the bell and gave it a quick ding to signify the start of the match.

The two small bears stared each other down as the match began, neither ready to budge an inch just yet. Pancham glared at Stufful a nasty Leer, sending a shiver down his spine, but the teddy bear retaliated by flashing his Baby-Doll Eyes, catching Pancham off guard. Pancham growled and leapt forward, giving Stufful a Karate Chop to the head for good damage, but Stufful closed his eyes and patiently began to Bide his time and store his energy.

Seeing as Stufful didn’t appear to be fighting back, Pancham smirked arrogantly and unleashed a flurry of Comet Punches on Stufful, hitting him four times in a row. Despite his Fluffy fur protecting him, the hits were starting to add up on Stufful, but he then opened his eyes and released a blast of energy back onto Pancham, sending him flying into the ropes that surrounded the ring. Pancham winced, clearly in pain as Stufful’s attack had reflected a lot of the damage back onto him. Pancham slowly got back to his feet, seething, as he couldn’t believe that the formerly wimpy Stufful could hit him like this. Fired up more than ever, Pancham charged forward, ready to strike with a flurry of Arm Thrusts. What will Stufful do?

Munchlax reacted to the sound of your voice. Utterly confused, he walked the opposite direction and smashed into the wall. While you tried to rein him in and heal his confusion, you gave directions to Staryu. The Water-type sent Swift shining stars through the cave, providing a brilliant light that smashed accurately into Baltoy. The light faded, but you were able to find Munchlax, who was continuously trying to walk into or through the cave wall somehow. At your touch, he squirmed and attempted to get away, scratching you a bit in the process. Once you were able to restrain him and administer the Full Heal, you felt him relax. You called out more attacks to Staryu, who was trying its best to relocate Baltoy again by flashing his gem.

Smack! You and Staryu were hit with a thick Slap of Mud. Staryu fired Ice Beam from its gem, and it sounded like at least hit something. Another Mud-Slap covered Staryu, reducing its senses even more in the darkness. Munchlax gathered up Energy and shot it in a Ball to where it guessed Baltoy might be. With great skill(or maybe luck), his move hit. You were able to see the slightly glowing move hit its spinning target. Staryu and Munchlax were rather far away from you now after attacking. Baltoy, which sounded like it was wobbling weakly, seemed agitated by this. It threw itself into Staryu and then into Munchlax with Rapid Spin, pushing them back over some imaginary threshold. You heard the Pokemon retreat, dragging itself along the ground as its Psychic powers started to wane. Baltoy, determined to continue guarding whatever was at the end of this cave, waited.

Raves:

As you became fully aware of the battle raging on around you, you realized it was definitely time to leave. You called out to your Pokemon with an exit and they jumped into action. Herex dropped a Bomb of Sludge on the nearest Paras tower. It toppled over and the Paras writhed in pain as the poison seeped through their exoskeletons. The Drapion scuttled down the path you arrived here on and started digging her sharp claws into the earth above her. Glasspine Bulldozed several Paras around him down. Though they were knocked off their feet, they tried their best to chase after the Sandshrew on his way to join Herex. The room seemed to freeze as it was lit up with a brilliant and powerful light. It faded, and the clusters of Paras looked on in awe and horror at Pridwen's new form. Your newly evolved Ferrothorn spun quickly to Rollout and flatten down the remaining towers of Paras. He then swept them away with Power Whip, enjoying the use of his new appendages. While the majority of the Paras were on their backs and squealing, Pridwen used Rock Climb to help the two of you get to where Herex and Glasspine were waiting. At your signal, Glasspine dug his claws into the ground and loosed a Magnitude of 9!. You braced yourself during the quake, and watched as the loose earth crumbled down onto the Paras and Parasect. When it ended, the cave you were once in was just a large pile of dirt.
"Alex?! Thank goodness you're ok!" From behind you came the voice of Petunia. "You were taking a while so we were getting worried..." In the twilight, you could make out a distressed look on her face. She looked up at the sky, and the sun that was rapidly setting behind the peak of Mt. Zephyria. You know you needed to hurry.

Despite the creature’s resilience, the number’s game had caught up with Baltoy. Even with a field advantage, Staryu and Mucnhlax’s combined attacks, and the light they emitted, allowed the duo to wear out the Psychic-Type and force it into retreating.

Whatever it’s guarding, it is determined to keep us away. What could it be?

He knew by now how Trainers acted, How they weakened Pokemon in order to capture them and strengthen their own teams. But that wasn’t Rorik.

I didn’t come here for this. I came in pursuit of answers, to solve a game of riddles and uncover the secrets of the Stone Shrine. But I will not forcibly take a creature from its home after pummelling it into near-unconsciousness.

But he had come too far to leave without those answers. The Baltoy had retreated for now, and apparently waited to see what their next move would be, when it could easily have Teleported away from the invading threat. Rorik’s curiosity was at an all-time high.

“Staryu,” he called out, “clean yourself of that mud and then Munchlax with a Water Gun, then both of you, stay sharp…”

Slowly taking one step after another to make sure he didn’t trip and fall, Rorik attempted to make his way through the dark cave to meet up with his friends and get close to Baltoy.

“Listen! We mean no harm,” he said, raising his voice. “We were led here! One riddle after another, they all led us to this place! We just want to solve this mystery, that is all… Please, just show us what it is you’re protecting!”

With any luck, it would either be the final answer, or the next riddle. Because why would Baltoy lure them there, only to chase them away? Rorik had a hard time believing the clay figure was responsible for all this, but he needed answers…

“You two,” he whispered to his partners, hoping they would hear him. “We only fight back in self-defense. If Baltoy strikes, Staryu, shine some light on the battle with a Signal Beam, then Munchlax, follow that signal with an Ice Beam. But remember… only if we have to.”

Odysseus has grown 4 levels!
Atalanta has grown 3 levels!
Spartacus has grown 2 levels!
Jayson couldn't believe it. Despite Atalanta being knocked unconscious, he final strike had proven enough, the section of log she had been cutting at fell to the ground with a thud. "Yes!" Jayson shouted, quickly running out to scoop up the unconscious Dartrix as Odysseus floated back over towards him. Spartacus soon came around and made his way over, Atalanta eventually came around as well. "Excellent work team, I didn't doubt you all for a second. You deserve a rest now though." Jayson recalled the trio into their balls.

Samuel made his way over, offering his congratulations and presenting Jayson with a Cutter Badge and the TM for Fury Cutter. He also informed Jayson that he was allowed to venture into the next level of the Cloud Garden, or he could try his hand at one of the other trials down here. Suddenly Jayson heard his phone beep, he had a message. "Ahh is there now", Jayson had received news from a friend, it seemed he was needed elsewhere. "Thank you for everything Samuel, hopefully I will see you around when I get back", Jayson released Boudicca from her ball and quickly mounted the Mudsdale. "I'll be back to the Cloud Garden, but right now I have somewhere else to check out." Jayson rode off through the forest, leaving the Cloud Garden behind, for now atleast.

******

"Wow" thought Jayson as he walked through the rocky expanse surrounding the base of Starline Falls. He had finally returned to the Cloud Garden, intent on travelling up to the second level, but not before checking out the Stone Shrine. Samuel had mentioned it was the location of another trial, however Jayson was more interested in checking out the Pokemon in the area and perhaps a bit of training. He had brought a collection of his newer Pokemon with him, all of them having been acquired in his absence from the Cloud Garden. Tangaroa the Vaporeon walked alongside, intent to stay by his side. Alexander the Nidoking was trailing behind, Ajax the Chespin playing on his back as the two played around in the rocks. Jayson grimaced as sharp legs dug into his back. Tomoe the Wimpod wasn't eager to interact with the rest of his Pokemon. She was a fairly shy, but in the time they had spent together Jayson had been working on getting her stronger and friendlier.

As they approached the Stone Shrine, Jayson wondered whether they would find the Trial Captain or maybe even some Pokemon to train against.

In the twilight, you could make out a distressed look on her face. She looked up at the sky, and the sun that was rapidly setting behind the peak of Mt. Zephyria. You know you needed to hurry.
Herex's first assault on the Paras horde came in the form of a globule of noxious liquid, striking a tower of the bugs as she cleared a route to begin tunneling a way out, while the Sandshrew's offensive stomp started a minor tremor that knocked other towers down though with less efficiency as Alex kept his footing. The bugs didn't seem to stop coming however, and the Drapion's progress was a little sluggish as she sought to make a large enough pathway for the human, but thankfully Pridwen was ready. With his greater size, the Ferrothorn whirled and rolled into the brink, hardened body serving as an unstoppable cannonball as Paras were sent flying like skittles in a bowling alley, awe and horror on their faces as the steel durian barreled into the brink, knocking every tower down.

"Quickly, Herex!" Alex called, the scorpion nodding and ripping at soil and root, while the eager Thorn Pod pokemon flexed his new appendages, aglow with botanic energy, and swept aside the helpless Paras, the greater range pleasing the steel type. He then planted his arms into the earth as the other two pokemon broke onto the surface, and with a grunt, gave confirmation to Alex. With bottle stashed back in bag safely, he readied himself before leaping onto the pokemon carefully, avoiding any major thorns as the armoured nut clawed up the soil effortlessly, paying no heed to whatever bugs remained in the way. As he left the cave, he barked "Glass, now!"

Giving a cry, the Sandshrew dug his claws into the ground and unleashed an incredible tremor, the soil practically liquifying as the trainer wobbled and shook around in the powerful technique, and as the dust settled, the intended effect came to light. The Paras and Parasect were buried under the soil, the cavern nought but a filled pit, and it would take them some time to dig their way out of there, by which time Alex and the squad should be long gone.

"Alex!?"

A familiar voice from behind made him whirl round to find the gardener from before, Petunia, who appeared distressed. "Sorry about that, the Parasect had broke out of the trap it was in and had made its way back here. Coercing it to cooperate was a little...tricky, so to speak..." he trailed, motioning at the earthen pit formed, "but I got the saliva that Persimmon guy needed." Following her gaze, he realised the concern. The sun was starting to set, and fast.

"Crap, we need to move, fast! Prid, get some rest. You too, Glass, you did well," he said, recalling the Sandshrew and the Ferrothorn, the latter giving a disgruntled growl. He had just evolved, give him some time to savour his new form. "Herex, we need to head back, now. I got the stuff, let's make haste!" With that, he nodded to Petunia as he slung bag back on shoulder, beckoned the Drapion near, and readied himself to start running. "What's the quickest way back?"

Missingno. Master – “Ah, so it’s Gavin then.” Ringo acknowledges your introduction but doesn’t say much else to continue the conversation. “Here, I’ll help too.” Once she saw that you were trying to help Miror she approaches and bends down with a water bottle in hand and slowly pours the water over Miror’s eyes to help rinse them out, it doesn’t take long for them to become perfectly clean. “There we go, all bet–” She stops talking once loud laughter is coming from the battlefield.

Aipom is clinging all over Dudley, Tickling him so much that there are tears coming out of his eyes from laughing. The Kricketune was still sound asleep, unaware of anything that was going on around it. Finally, Aipom is satisfied and stops, confidently preparing for his next attack, but suddenly things take an unexpected turn for the little monkey when Dudley creates a Trick Room. The world begins to warp around everyone and suddenly the Aipom is feeling extremely sluggish. Before it even has a chance to process what is happening to it, Dudley unleashes a powerful Flamethrower on the Aipom, however, that attack also hits the very tree that the Aipom was in earlier. “Oh. My. God. Are you freaking for real right now!?” Ringo is once again glaring at you. “Dudley is a water type isn’t he!?! You did this so fix it!! I don’t have any more water!! I used it all on your Pokemon’s eyes!!!” Ringo is starting to panic and lose all reasoning, it’s not like her water bottle would have put the flames out regardless of whether or not she still had it. (Dudley gains 2 levels)

Oblivious to the tree that is slowly starting to go up in flames, Dudley and the Aipom continue with their little fight. The Aipom was quite shocked and the tuft of hair on its head was a bit singed from the fire. It was still confused about why it was feeling a bit slow but once again resorted to using its Sand Attack only this time it was aimed at Dudley. The sand messed with his vision a bit but Dudley was feeling more agile than ever and wasn’t about to let a little bit of sand get him down. So he lifted up the Aipom with his Psychic abilities and threw him full force into the flaming tree. The force of impact causing one of the flaming branches to fall down and crash into the grass, causing the fire to begin spreading across the grass as well, right toward the sleeping Kricketune. Ringo’s mouth was gaping, she couldn’t even find any words anymore, the panic was really setting in. Lady the Herdier on the other hand, still seemed to be pretty calm considering the situation. The Aipom slowly maneuvered its way around the flames and walked right up to Dudley, Scratching his belly and giving huffing at him in annoyance.

----------------------

myahoo – The third round has begun and Odachi the Lurantis begins to use Aromatherapy on Reaper the Scyther by releasing a calming scent. Signal had prepared to land a Sucker Punch on the Lurantis to stop her but it fails since the scent wasn't a physical or special attack. Feeling much better, Reaper smirks with confidence and begins to cut away at the log with a strong Fury Cutter. Reaper has stepped back now and raises his arm to attack the log a second time when Signal begins to blow an Icy Wind in his direction. Odachi leaps in front of the chilling wind and in order to take the majority of the super effective attack herself as well as whacking Signal away with her Leaf Blade which stops the attack just before Signal got to finish. But some of it still manages to blow past her and at Reaper, who is briefly caught off balance. He still manages to release his Air Slash on the log but it is much weaker than it would have been had he been able to put all of his strength into the attack.

While all of that was going down, the other end of the log also had fighting going on. Ore had already begun to use Fury Swipes on the log while Cirrus had begun to charge up his Solar Beam. Gladius the Kabutops used Cirrus’ charging as an opportunity to hit Ore with a Confuse Ray, it’s clear that Ore is effected but he continues to attack the log and doesn’t stop until he lands three full hits. As Gladius prepares to stop Ore’s next move with a Mud Shot he is completely blasted away by Cirrus’ Solar Beam. This leaves Ore open to do his Shadow Claw but he stumbles backwards a bit out of confusion and only manages to graze the log when he swipes. Gladius goes to stand back on his feet after being knocked down and is then immediately ambushed by Cirrus’ Steel Wings. Gladius swats away at the bird slightly annoyed but then turns to Samuel for the next strategy.

In this round, it seems that Samuel’s team has managed to push ahead and into a slight lead themselves showing that this is really going to be anyone’s match. “This is what makes these trials great! You never know who’s going to win until the end! Alright, Reaper keep at cutting that log, this time with X-Scissor then give it a good Slash! Gladius keep your distance this time and stop their cutter with an Aurora Beam then give them a taste of some Icy Wind as well!

Gavin gave a small smile as Ringo, in a most generous gesture, slowly poured out the contents of her water bottle onto Miror's eyes. "Marac~" Miror said happily, thanking Ringo.

"Hey, thanks," Gavin added. "That was really- what the fuck?" he added, for he too heard the laughter. And once he looked, he facepalmed- Dudley was getting Tickled by Aipom, and was laughing like crazy. Kenny was rolling his eyes in annoyance, trying to catch Dudley's attention by biting down harder on his tail. But once Aipom stopped, Dudley let loose the Trick Room. Now the tables were turned, and Aipom was slower than everything Gavin could throw at it. And Dudley then let loose a Flamethrower... but it didn't just hit Aipom. To Gavin's horror, Dudley's aim wasn't quite on target, and the tree Aipom had been earlier was struck as well. And as tends to happen when fire meets tree, the tree ignited. And to further compound Gavin's frustration, Ringo started to panic, snapping at Gavin to fix the problem because she was out of water.

Trying his best to not snap right back at her, Gavin focused on the problem at hand. Which was further compounded when Dudley's next attack somehow made things even worse- Dudley's Psychic attack slammed Aipom into the tree, but in doing so, also dislodged one of its flaming branches. Which fell to the ground. And started spreading the fire to the grass as well. Including right towards Kricketune.

"Fuck!" Gavin swore as this happened. "Dudley, forget the Aipom for now!" he called. "Put out the fire with Water Gun! Start with the grass, then put out the tree when that's done!" He then turned to Miror, confident that with the Trick Room in effect, Dudley would be able to extinguish the flames in no time. "OK, you," he said to the Maractus. "You should be faster than Aipom now, and your eyes are clear as a Yanma's wing. You got this!"

"Marrrractus!" nodded Miror.

"Then go!" grinned Gavin. "Hit Aipom with Drain Punch, then use Seed Bomb! And if it's gonna go for Sand Attack at any point, jump to dodge and turn it into a Bounce attack! Or better yet- if you can trick it into aiming the Sand Attack at any of the flames somehow, then try that! And you," Gavin added, turning to Ringo. "Calm. The hell. Down. A bottle of water wasn't gonna put this out anyway, and panicking ain't gonna solve anything. Does your Herdier know Sand Attack?" he asked. "If so, she can help put out the fire with that."

Petunia wrinkled her brow and frowned at your question, deep in thought. Her face fell as she realized she wasn’t sure how to get you back quickly. You both turned to the sound of hedges moving as something passed by them.
“What on earth…” A ranger seated on a Sawsbuck had come upon the pile of dirt you and your Pokemon had created. He looked at you accusingly. “Did you do this? I’ll have you know that’s a violation of code --”
“Wait! Rick, he’s with me. We don’t have a lot of time to explain.” Petunia jumped in, waving her hands frantically. The ranger and his Pokemon huffed. “Let him use your Sawsbuck to get to the cabin in Galea Plains, please. He needs to get there quickly.”
“...Fine, but only for you Petunia.” He swung a leg over the side of Sawsbuck and got off. After adjusting his red hat, he crossed his arms and glared at you. You got on to the Pokemon, who was looking just as displeased as its trainer. The ranger gave it a pat on the side to direct it to start galloping off. He called after you. “YOU’LL BE GETTING A CITATION FOR THIS!”
Petunia waved goodbye.

The Sawsbuck got you to the cabin in good time. The sun was all but vanished behind the mountain, and you could spot a few starts shining in the sky. Upon entering the cabin, you bumped into a mess of vines that exclaimed loudly. The vines turned around, revealing a pair of eyes that widened at the sight of you. The Tangela spotted the vial of Parasect saliva in your hand and used a vine appendage to take it from you. It sprinted across the room to Persimmon, who was seated at a table covered in lab equipment. He added the vial handed to him by his Tangela into a flask bubbling over a Bunsen burner. In one swift motion, he picked up the flask with a pair of tongs and poured the mixture into a few separate vials. He turned around to face you, lab goggles askew, and held out a vial of the antidote for you to give to your Nidorina. He administered the rest of the antidote to the two Roselia, and they quickly regained their strength. As you poured some into your Nidorina’s mouth, she stirred and opened her eyes. They had returned to their normal color, the Parasect’s spores no longer influenced her. The Roselia under Persimmon’s care suddenly perked up and ran to the cabin door. After some struggling with the door, you get up to help them. Standing in the doorway is a stoic Roserade. Queen Roserade, in fact. She doesn’t seem to react to seeing you, and her Roselia subjects bow slightly before excitedly joining her side. The Queen holds out a flowered hand, presenting you with two green discs. She nods as an indication that you should take them. With that, her and the Roselia take off over the plains and return to the garden.

“Oh.” Persimmon said, squinting at the door. “That’s cool that you uh, got to see Queen Roserade. I think she was thanking you? Oh yeah speaking of….” He ruffled through papers on the table, knocking over some lab equipment in the process. After not finding whatever he is looking for, he ducks under the table, and hits his head coming back up. The gardener rubs the bump on his head and holds out a pair of green goggles with red lenses.

“I thought these might be useful….uh cause… it protects against spores and stuff,” Persimmon places the goggles in your hands. He looks at you without saying anything for a long, awkward moment, then nods and returns to cleaning up his things. Tori is now fully awake and alert, like she had never been attacked by that Parasect at all.

Maskerade:

Staryu dutifully sprayed itself and then Munchlax with a strong Water Gun. The sound of Baltoy spinning stopped as you declared your intentions. It thought for a moment, and it was eerily silent. There wasn’t even the slightest dripping of water.

There was a rush of light and sound. The room was revealed to you, but you knew you weren’t seeing it in real time. The Baltoy was projecting this vision to you with its Psychic power. On the walls, you could spot the continuation of the story. The town covered in darkness and overwhelmed with evil creatures. The next image was inset with several pink diamonds that shone through the darkness. The darkness was dispelled, the red-eyed evil sent away by the being made of jewels. The being was portrayed with its arms out and a smile on its face. A benevolent presence. The people of the town knelt in gratitude. You felt warm and comforted at the site of this mural that covered the entire back wall of the cave. The vision faded.

You were once again in darkness, but the pink diamonds on the wall glittered as if they were being hit by light. You saw a shocked look on Munchlax’s face, and maybe Staryu’s as well but it was hard to tell. They were both looking at something behind you. You turned around to see a light that blinded you at first. Once your eyes adjusted, you saw the light was coming from a woman. She was pale, with dark black stringy hair and a white kimono. She smiled.

Mint spread her arms wide as she gazed upon the vast plains spread out before her. Adventure, possibility, new friends, this was her first step into all of it. Her azure blue eyes sparkled like polished aquamarines in the bright daylight, and the gentle breeze set her long, dark brown curls into motion behind her. She wore a white T-shirt emblazoned with red stripes and a pleated skirt of the same red color with white tights and new red sneakers. A red backpack filled with the basic necessities rested on her back. Red and white fingerless gloves adorned her hands, with her left wrist bearing a shining white Z-Power Ring as well. Perched atop her shoulder, a Chatot happily chirped a cheerful tune filled with hopes of adventures to come. Beside the young adult hovered a Rotom Dex, who was decidedly a child in comparison.

"Woooooow! Look at all this scenery! There hazzzz to be a lot of Pokémon here, right, Mint? Right?" the device asked eagerly, snapping pictures left and right with a trademark grin on its screen and literal sparkles in its digitally-displayed eyes.

"Right, Mint?" the Chatot on her shoulder happily repeated in the midst of its concert.

"Yes, Sprocket, and that's just why we're here! There are so many possibilities for who'll be the first one we meet! I can't wait to get started! Come on, let's get going already!" Mint said eagerly. "Stay close, Celeste!" she called to the still-chirping Chatot as she alighted from her Trainer's shoulder as Mint took her first steps into the Plains.

Today was a great day, after all.

The poison had sapped her strength and she was already worn out from her battle with Stunky. With little alternative, Isaac recalled Vinny back to her ball and turned tail.

Isaac bolted down the trail, hoping to escape the angry bear. He must have not seen many nature shows, because if there was ever a textbook example on ‘How to get Eaten by a Bear,’ he was following it to the letter. The forest was the bear’s natural habitat, and the Ursaring lunged forward after Isaac, barreling through the brush like it was nothing. The gap between them was closed in just moments, and a forceful swat from the Ursaring’s massive paw knocked the wind out of Isaac, causing him to tumble forward and crash into the dirt. His back seared in pain as the Ursaring’s claws had sliced through his clothes and left a small gash in his skin. Isaac spun around to face the creature, holding his arms up as a meager attempt to defend himself. The hulking bear stood over him with a paw raised high in the air ready to strike again and bellowed another deafening roar.

As the bear was about to strike, a faint cry was heard from back where they had come. “CUT IT OUT!” As the voice got closer, a man was spotted sprinting through the woods to catch up to them. “SMOKEY, STOP!” The Ursaring heard the person’s voice and turned its head back to listen. The man finally arrived, huffing and puffing and he took a moment to catch his breath. He was a young man in his twenties with dark brown hair and a clean shave and sported a standard ranger’s uniform. His ranger’s hat had long since fallen off while he was running, hanging on by the string around his neck. The Ursaring let out a frustrated grunt and gave Isaac a less-forceful shove before standing down to sit at the ranger’s side. “Hey!” the ranger protested, scolding the bear for its aggression.

“I’m so sorry about that, are you alright?” he asked, lending a hand to help Isaac back to his feet. “The thing is, Smokey really hates when people litter in the forest, and he hates fires even more than that.” As he spoke, Smokey the Ursaring’s eyes narrowed and glared down at Isaac. “Speaking of which, that reminds me…” The man reached into his pocket and pulled out a plastic bag with a few charred leaves and a cigarette butt inside. Isaac’s cigarette butt. “This wouldn’t happen to be yours, would it? Smokey picked up the scent from a mile away. We found it at the Mossy Rock where a Stunky seemed to have gone off, and I can’t help but notice that you have a faint scent of that as well… I’m going to have to take you down to the ranger’s cabin to write you up.”

The ranger looked and saw the blood dripping down Isaac’s back and his mood softened. “And we better hurry! I’m so sorry about my Ursaring once again.” He turned and gave Smokey a smack on the nose, who scowled and suddenly seemed much more docile than before. “Forgive my rudeness, my name is Leonard Johnson, but you can call me ‘Leo’ for short. Let’s go get you patched up, and along the way you can tell me what brings you around these parts,” he said with a reassuring smile.
Isaac was the textbook definition of a city-slicker. Beyond a few walks in the routes of Unova, he had never really had to endure the chaos that nature brought. Unfortunately for him, this also left him wide open for possible bear attacks. As Isaac ran, he kept looking over his shoulder, watching the bear gain quick momentum on him. Isaac was able to let out one scream for help before the bear's massive paw slammed into his back --- causing him to gasp for air as the force of the impact was so great. The pain he felt was tremendous, he choked on his own spit as he fell forwards, getting a face full of dirt and grass in the process. He could feel his blood rising out of the open cut that the bear had left as he lay on the warm Earth. He gasped for breath, every single part of him hurt. His back was pulsing from the impact, and his elbows and arms felt weak from slamming so forcefully into the ground. As Isaac huffed for breath, he heard the bear bellow out a mighty roar. He spun around meekly, seeing the bear towering over him. He crawled backwards while facing the bear as fast as he possibly could, already well aware that this was probably the end for him.

Isaac wasn't one to cry, he didn't cry when Kyle left. He hadn't cried since he failed that stupid breeding exam, killing two Pokemon in the process. Was this his punishment? Was this what he deserved for everything he had done wrong in his life? He could feel the tears slowly beginning to well up in his eyes. He wasn't ready to die, there was so much he hadn't done in his life. He wanted to be a father, he wanted to feel pure love again, and he wanted to be there when Vinny was finally able to be a mother. He held up his arms to defend himself, ready to feel the bear's massive paw strike him down and send him into the agonizing void of death. He shut his eyes, embracing his fate.

He was roused upon hearing a voice calling out to stop, he opened his eyes to see the bear standing meekly over him, looking in the direction that the voice had come from. Isaac wiped his eyes, he wasn't going to be caught crying like a scared child in the face of danger. As the source of the voice came into view, he noticed it was a ranger. The ranger scolding the bear for being so aggressive, causing it to shove Isaac back into the ground with it's paw. Isaac shallowed hard, confused by the entire situation. He felt relief, but he also felt like he was going to explode at any moment. The ranger stuck out an outstretched hand to help him up, causing Isaac to let out a loud sigh of relief. The ranger's eyes narrowed, telling Isaac about the bear and why the attack had happened. As he produced a small bag with Isaac's cigarette in it, Isaac gave a deep exhale. He finally understood, he gave a meager lowering of his head and began to speak.

"Sorry... Sometimes I don't even think about it." He felt his back searing in pain, he grimaced unhappily. He realized that due to not being able to focus as well, that his lisp was slipping out willingly. The ranger tutted, informing him that they had to head down to the ranger's cabin where he was unfortunately going to be written up. Isaac sighed, at least it was where he was going anyways --- even though it was in a somewhat unorthodox fashion. Isaac began to walk towards the cabin, allowing the ranger to see his back, causing his somewhat angry exterior to dissipate. He apologized for the Ursaring once more, causing Isaac to raise his arms and offer an apology.

"Don't worry about it, it's my fault anyways." He gave a weak smile, his eyes on he verge of producing tears. He walked next to the ranger, who introduced himself as Leo. He offered to patch Isaac up, as well as asking the young man why he had come around these parts. Isaac looked at the ranger as they walked, the bear in tow. Although Isaac had to admit he was still a little scared of the creature, it seemed more docile at this point.

"I'm Isaac. Isaac Casanova." He replied, "Thank you for your kindness. It is my own fault that I'm in this mess." He chuckled to himself, wiping the few tears that had formed in his eyes. Mere moments ago he was afraid he was going to die, now he was having a friendly chat with the ranger. "I came here, to the Moss Rock, I mean. To evolve my Eevee." He gave a bright smile, talking about Vinny always cheered him up. "She got poisoned by a Stunky, so she's been resting. We were heading up to your cabin when Smokey attacked, which again, absolutely my fault." He gave a shrug. When he had joined a support group for his issues, their first tip was to admit your faults and mistakes. He wiped his eyes on his sleeve, he wasn't even sure if it was the nerves at this point or if it was the pain coming from his back. He certainly couldn't wait to get back to the cabin and rest.

Odachi stay on the defense prepare yourself with Growth and knock anyone who tries to stop Reaper away with your Razor Leaf!
Melissa blinked as the Aromatherapy went through despite Signal preparing a Sucker Punch. "Oh. Well, shit."

His Scyther managed both his Fury Cutter and his Air Slash, though Signal managed to hit both Scyther and Lurantis with Icy Wind. At the expense of a Leaf Blade, which had him rapidly blinking 'ow' as he tumbled away from the pair.

On her side of the log, Kabutops hit Ore with a Confuse Ray and Melissa immediately made a note to swap Signal and Cirrus again, so Signal could use Heal Bell. Either that or she should've had Ore Detect the attack coming. Either way, too late to regret it now. Cirrus did manage hit Kabutops with both the Solar Beam and his Steel Wings, preventing him from getting his Mud Shot off.

"This is what makes these trials great! You never know who's going to win until the end! Alright, Reaper keep at cutting that log, this time with X-Scissor then give it a good Slash! Gladius keep your distance this time and stop their cutter with an Aurora Beam then give them a taste of some Icy Wind as well! Odachi stay on the defense and prepare yourself with Growth and knock anyone who tries to stop Reaper away with your Razor Leaf!"

"I'll take your word for it," Melissa returned as Wildfire pointed out that there was a reason they hadn't put Signal on the attack. "And, yes, I forgot, okay?" Raising her voice, she said, "Signal, back on defense. Cirrus, you're on attack again, so Air Cutter then Heat Wave." Hopefully, in that order, there wasn't much of a risk in setting the forest on fire. "Signal, let's try this again. Prep a Sucker Punch for Kabutops and then let's try a Heal Bell. Hopefully, it'll fix Ore's Confusion, but, if not, well, then I guess we'll just keep doing what we're doing and hope for the best. Ore, just try to Fury Swipe and Shadow Claw the log again."

He knew that he had to live up to such a compliment. He watched as you took charge and was impressed with your levelheadedness in such an intense situation. Right after you told Ivan to keep an eye out for Billie, as if it was perfectly timed, Billie’s head became visible over a hill and slowly but surely as he approached, you could both finally see all of him. “Thank goodness...” Ivan said with relief under his breath just loud enough for you to hear. Once the large bear finally found his way all the way over to you both, Ivan began talking. “I’m so happy you caught up with us Billie, I knew I could count on you.” The corners of Billie’s mouth moved slightly upward after being praised, almost into a full smile before going back to his normal face again. Greg was still smushed into his chest and appears to have given up struggling for the time being while Ivan was basically acting like he wasn’t even there.

“Now that you’re here, I’m going to need you to guard this beautiful woman no matter what. Her Pokemon are busy taking care of the bad guys right now so you need to stay put right here at her side and make sure nothing harms her. Do you think you can do it Billie?” Billie gives Ivan a firm nod and immediately sidles right up against you so that you can feel the fur from his arm against yours. “Warrrrtortle!” Franklin’s cries can still be heard from inside the truck and recognizing his friends voice, Billie’s eyes widen as he glances toward the sound. “Don’t worry Billie, Alice’s Pokemon are going to save Franklin. You just worry about protecting her.” Once he finishes explaining the situation to Billie, he looks at you. “I have to go and check on Joe. The knocked out Torracat and Pancham over there are his and he looks like he’s injured, but I will come back to you Alice, I promise!” The look on his face shows that he is very conflicted about leaving you behind but he puts his trust in Billie and then begins to run over the hill and toward Joe.

Meanwhile, as all of that was going down, your Pokemon had gone to work. Axel had Teleported and was now inside of the truck and Franklin’s yelling and banging eventually stopped but there still wasn’t any sign of the truck opening up just yet. Nina had used her Agility to gain an advantage of speed over the two men attempting to run for their truck. She zipped ahead of them and quickly turned around Freeze Drying their feet before they could get any further. “Oh you have GOT to be kidding me!!” The Electrode owner yells his frustration. Suddenly, you can all hear the faint sound of what seems to be a helicopter in the distance that is slowly getting louder. Billie becomes tense beside you, the sound is making him uneasy so he shifts Greg so that he is tucked under one arm and puts his free arm around your shoulders and pulls you close since he is taking his guard job very seriously.

You had been briefly distracted by Billie getting as far inside of your personal bubble as he could and you’re surprised when you look back out at your Pokemon and see that Nina is currently Wrapped up by a Seviper. You can also see that Joe’s Pokemon had been returned to their balls and Ivan is kneeling down on the ground wrapping bandaging around Joe’s leg. The sound of the helicopter in the distance is still slowly getting louder but you also don’t see anything in the sky just yet. “They’re probably freaking out right about now.” Greg speaks about his comrades who are now dealing with Nina. “That helicopter is probably the boss and I’m sure they don’t wanna get caught having this much trouble. Man, today is just getting more and more interesting.” He seems indifferent to the situation now. He was once mad with laughter and struggling against Billie with all his might but now he almost seems like he is content being held by Billie, you don’t even know if he was trying to talk to you or if he was just vocalizing his own thoughts for no reason besides feeling an urge to speak. The truck is also still quiet, almost too quiet, and Axel is still inside.
Having an Ursaring snuggle up real tight wasn't exactly awful. In fact, it was probably something dreamlike for Alice, who wouldn't be sure she'd ever get the chance to hug a friendly big bear. Unfortunately, she was trying to concentrate, and between Billie and Greg that was difficult. "If you could devour his vocal cords, that'd be real nice." She joked, voice deadpan as she watched Nina suffer the Seviper. No good, she had to act now.

"Don't take that, Nina, get it to let you go with your extrasensory and knock it away with zen headbutt! Then use swift on the truck and see if you can weaken the locks on the back!" The young woman commanded, no longer afraid to move over and show herself. Knowing that the helicopter belonged to their boss made her antsy, but if they could free Ivan's Pokemon and Dutchess before they arrived that would make things a whole lot easier.

"Axel, can you hear me?! Use blow back and iron tail on the truck, and if you're still stuck, use another attack you think will work or will help free one of the other Pokemon to help you! You've got this!" She did wonder if perhaps there was a barrier preventing psychic attacks from working - to stop Pokemon like him from breaking in easily or escaping. Alice did hope he would reach out and communicate if he could, though, to give her a picture or feel for his situation. It was impossible to know with the sleepy creature all of the time, though. All Alice could really do was fight hard and sort this out, though. They'd free Axel and the others whatever the cost.

She smiled.
Conflict had been avoided; Rorik's words had touched the Baltoy, and in return, the creature provided what the man of science craved the most: answers.

Not all of them, and certainly not the most important one, but the visions it provided showed Rorik the ultimate fate of the town earlier depicted in the murals as irremediably doomed. Darkness overwhelmed buildings and citizens alike, but some greater force intervened - a god? Rorik scoffed at the idea, but the village's timely salvation hardly seemed coincidental - and sent forth a power of light to fight off the shadows. That power took a familiar force, a being made of pink gems... no doubt the ancient Pokemon many articles referred to as "Diancie".

The mural now revealed to him was glorious, and filled him with a sense or warmth. Strangely, it also blessed him with a feeling of relief, which puzzled him as he had no emotional ties to that village whatsoever. And yet, knowing it had been saved brought him peace.

But then, the oddest of things happened. Rorik understood he was being shown visions, but he was certain the Baltoy had broken its own spell. Then why... was there a woman in front of them? Was she... real? Or was this a vision within a vision? Either way, it presented Rorik the opportunity to speak up, and give voice to his greatest unrest.

"H-hello lady," he said clumsily, struggling to find the right words to address the woman he wasn't even sure was really there. "I... I came here drawn by riddles. I mean no harm, and only curiosity has led me this far. Are... are you the one responsible? W-what do you want from me? From us?"

Munchlax and Staryu drew closer to Rorik. The Professor knew he'd never have made it this far without the two of them, but even after all that they'd been shown, they still didn't know the most fundamental of truths: why.

It had been some time since Jayson’s last visit to the Cloud Garden, but the intense trial challenge versus Samuel was still fresh in his mind. Looking to start fresh and explore a new area of the mountain region, Jayson recalled Samuel’s parting words. The prospect of checking to see what the Stone Shrine had in store for him intrigued Jayson, so he set out in that direction with his gathering of Pokemon. Joining him was Tangaroa the Vaporeon, Alexander the Nidoking, Ajax the Chespin, and Tomoe the Wimpod.

The trainer and his Pokemon walked for quite a while as they headed west across the Galea Plains. Gradually the landscape became more and more rugged, with the mountain’s slope getting steeper. They were nearing the Starline Waterfall; the great falls that served as a gateway to the upper parts of the mountain and the sound of rushing water could be heard around the bend. They did not proceed any further to check it out however, as they had arrived at their destination.

Before them stood a large, rocky hill that stretched up towards the mountainside and topped with a flat plateau. The hill was lined with stairs that extended up to the top, where a giant red gate stood at the top. It was a bit of a hike, but Jayson and his team climbed the stairs and made it to the shrine’s entrance. As they got to the top and crossed under the gate, Jayson took in his surroundings. To the left was a cluster of dense pine trees and to the right an assortment of jagged rock formations. Before him lay a straight path that was lined by stone lanterns on either side. At the end of the path he could see the shrine itself, an old wooden building with a slanted roof.

Jayson and his group proceeded further, walking down the path as they approached the shrine. As they got nearer, they could see a girl in shrine maiden attire gracefully sweeping the steps to the shrine’s entrance. On either side of the wooden stairs sat a large stone platform, with a statue of a stone dog on each one. However, as they got closer and the girl noticed their presence, opting to smile and give a welcoming bow, Jayson noticed that the two statues began to move. The two wolf-like heads followed the newcomers’ every movement, and upon closer inspection they appeared to be a pair of Lycanroc; the one on the left being the midday form while the one on the right a midnight form.

“Welcome,” the girl greeted, clutching the broomstick in her hands. “My name is Ishi Madoka and I am caretaker of this shrine.” There was a very refined and polite air about her. “Are you here to take part of the trial challenge? Or are you looking to explore the area?”

It was a bright new day as Mint began her adventure on the sunny Galea Plains. Accompanying her was the Chatot Celeste, who chirped a song from her perch on Mint’s shoulder while a Rotomdex continued to offer dialogue while the trainer was just trying to make it through the map. As Mint gazed out across the plains, all she could see were lush, green rolling hills seemingly as far as the eye could see. There were a few scattered trees that offered brief oases of shade atop some of the hills while a gentle breeze blew at Mint’s back.

The trio of trainer, Pokemon, and Pokedex carried onward, setting out into the open plains in search of some wildlife. It wasn’t until after a short while of walking that they heard a commotion coming from the other side of a hill. Hurrying over it, Mint and company gazed down to see a pair of young trainers conducting a Pokemon battle. The young boy on the left seemed to have the upper hand as his Raticate bit down on the young girl’s Sentret, who squeaked in pain. The boy grinned confidently while there was a fear set in the girl’s eyes.

As Mint watched the battle unfold, it too her a few minutes to realize that there was a small yellow creature off to the side of the battlefield, quickly bobbing up and down in a peculiar dance. It appeared to be some kind of bird with pompoms in its hands, cheering for the girl’s Sentret in a futile effort. As the Sentret collapsed, the girl fell to her knees as well, returning the Pokemon to its Pokeball. “Rules are rules,” the boy commented with a smirk, holding out his hand. With tears in her eyes, the girl reluctantly put her Sentret’s Pokeball in his hand. “That’s no fair, Marcus, you didn’t tell me you evolved your Pokemon!” the girl sniffled as tears began to roll down her cheeks. “I can’t help that you’re a weakling, Kimmy!” the boy retorted, pocketing the girl’s Pokemon.

The pair then noticed Mint standing on the hill, and Marcus called out, “What are you staring at? She agreed to battle on the condition that the winner keeps the loser’s Pokemon!” The girl sniffled, “That was before I knew Ratty got big and ugly!” Marcus rolled his eyes, still feeling confident. “What about you up there? Do you think you can take my Pokemon on?” It was now up to Mint to decide what to do. If she beat Marcus’ Pokemon, maybe she could win back the Sentret for Kimmy.

Naruxami:
Leo smiled as he listened to Isaac’s story about the Stunky and evolving his Eevee at the Mossy Rock. He seemed apologetic enough about the smoking incident, and he was still clearly rattled by the attack from Smokey the Ursaring. “Why don’t we get moving? We don’t want those wounds to get infected at all.” As they began walking down the forest trail, Leo offered a shoulder if Isaac needed one to keep the stress off his back, which was surely hurting.

It was a short walk as Smokey led the way. The tall trees of the Cloud Forest gradually began to thin out, and as they reached the edge of the forest, before them lay the expansive rolling hills of the Galea Plains. “It’s not too much farther,” Leo added, pointing to a cabin just in the distance. The sun was still shining bright overhead and a cool breeze blew across Isaac’s back, offering a slight relief to his wound.

Eventually they arrived at the ranger’s cabin and Leo let Isaac inside, opting to keep the Ursaring out as punishment. Leo quickly walked over to his desk where he pulled out a first aid kit. “Here, you can leave your Pokemon on the healing machine while I patch you up,” he said while motioning to a smaller version of a machine that was often seen in Pokemon Centers. “Please take off your shirt as well so I can dress the wound.” As he waited for Isaac to do so, Leo pulled out some gauze and disinfectant. He then continued, “I’m not going to lie, this might sting a little bit. Maybe to take your mind off of it, why don’t you tell me a little about yourself? Or maybe talk about where you would like to go next in the Cloud Garden?” (Please reply in lightgreen)

As Jayson and his band made their way down the path towards the Stone Shrine, they found themselves greeted by the caretaker of the shrine. Ishi Madoka, the Trial Leader for this area. Jayson had briefly encountered her during the campaign to save the Cloud Garden from an Ice Pokemon invasion, however the two had never exchanged words. Jayson had marveled at her Lycanroc then and continued to now, the rock wolves were impressive specimens.

As Tomoe gripped onto his back tighter, scared by the presence of unfamiliar Pokemon, Jayson responded to Madoka with a smile on his face. "Well met, would you prefer that I call you Ishi or Madoka? To be honest we have already bested Samuel's trial, albeit with monumental effort. Most of the Pokemon I have with me a relatively new to my team, I was hoping to give them a little more exposure." Jayson looked over his team, it was true that most of them had seen little action. Ajax and Alexander had helped him in LMN but for Tomoe and Tangaroa, this was their first time in the field with their trainer. "Your Lycanroc are impressive, I haven't got the pleasure of Rock type within my ranks, perhaps there are some around that we could battle?"

Ajax and Alexander grinned as they cracked their knuckles, it seemed the two became a lot more confident whenever they were in each others company. Tomoe was beginning to relax on his back as well. Despite being afraid of other Pokemon, this seemed to mostly be a social issue. When it came to fighting, the Wimpod was strangely resilient and more than happy to get involved.

After Jayson introduced himself and his Pokemon, Madoka smiled and answered, “Oh, please feel free to call me by my given name, Madoka. Ishi is my family name.” She listened as Jayson stated his desire to give his young team of Pokemon some battle experience. “Well if you’re looking for rock typed Pokemon, you’ve come to the right place! If you wish to have a look around the area, you won’t find too many up here on the plateau. However, there are a number of rocky mountain trails around nearby where it’s not difficult to bump into some wildlife.”

Madoka’s mood suddenly shifted, taking a more somber and reverent tone as she turned to face the shrine. The shrine itself was up against the steep mountainside that stretched high above, and behind it was a massive cavern entrance where visibility was almost nonexistent. “Additionally, you could explore the cave behind the shrine, where the shrine’s true altar lies. However as you can see, or maybe I should say can’t see, visibility is quite difficult in there. It would be best if you had a Pokemon with the knowledge of Flash to get around inside the cave. Fortunately for you, I can teach a Pokemon of yours the move if needed.”

Jayson was now presented with two choices. He could either hike the mountain trail to look around for wild Pokemon in the daylight, or he could explore the depths of the cave behind the shrine and maybe learn Flash from Madoka as well, just as Samuel once taught Spartacus how to Cut. What will Jayson do?

Madoka seemed pleased that Jayson was interested in Rock type Pokemon, which only made sense since they were her specialty. Having her inside knowledge on where to find them was appreciated, otherwise Jayson probably could have stumbled around the entire Stone Shrine without seeing one, other than Madoka's Lycanrocs of course. She presented him with two possible options. Either they could go for a hike and check out one of the trails, or he could take some time to teach one of his Pokemon how to use Flash and check out the massive cave that housed the real shrine.

Jayson hated making choices, he always found himself indecisive and stuck trying to make a decision. He turned to his Pokemon instead, Tomoe wouldn't make a choice but with the other three, the decision could be made. "What do you think guys, would you prefer we go for a hike or should Ajax learn Flash so that we can check out the main shrine?" Tangaroa was quick to signal his desire to hike the trail, he wasn't too interested in sitting around waiting for Ajax. Alexander and Ajax were eager to check out the shrine however, making the decision clear. "It seems we have a decision Madoka, Ajax will be learning Flash while we check out the cave."

Tangaroa growled under her breath, not happy to have the decision go against him. Ajax leapt down off of Alexander and began marching up the path towards the cave, eager to start learning and exploring. The Chespin certainly had character.

The urgency to return was evident, but as Petunia's face drooped, he knew that time was certainly against him...until the sound of hooves and hedges caught their attention. Turning to the source, the pair found a rather unimpressed ranger and his steed, an equally miffed Sawsbuck, stern gaze focused on the mound of dirt, and as the man began accusing him, the gardener interrupted, stressing the urgency of getting to the plains swiftly. With an empty threat of a citation or something, Alex was hauled onto the Sawsbuck, and began his return on the steed, which went out of its way to make the trip as discomforting as possible.

True to word, the deer and human returned to the cabin, and not a moment too soon, for the setting sun was all but gone, and a few early stars began to twinkle in the twilight. Rushing for the door, he stumbled upon a mass of vines which gave a loud cry before turning, the identity of the mass being a Tangela. On recognition, it stretched an appendage to the bottle, which Alex surrendered without word, and bounded to Persimmon, who took the bottle of saliva and began to work with it on a set of lab equipment. The scientist worked fast, and a moment later handed Alex a vial of fluid, while they administered the other two to the Roselia.

"Easy does it..." he mumbled under breath as he turned to Tori, the Nidorina's vacant eyes betraying the effects of the spores, and tentatively poured the tonic into the poison pokemon's mouth. She stirred, blinking eyes, before giving her head a small shake and looking up at Alex, colour returned. "Oh, thank god. I was worried about you there," he gasped, throwing arms around the confused pokemon in a hug, before clambering back to his feet to find the Roselia from before had also recovered. The excited plant pokemon ran to the door, and scrabbled at the handle as the man aided them with it, opening to discover a larger flower pokemon, one which seemed a little familiar.

The Roserade didn't appear to react to the sight of him - was she still a little bitter about the war not too long ago? - but nevertheless presented him with a pair of green discs, TMs by the looks of things, before leaving to return to her garden. Persimmon then piped up, commenting on the fact that yes, that was Queen Roserade, and the honour of meeting her, before searching his desk for something, and eventually handing Alex a pair of goggles, designed to protect against spores and other dusty objects. "Thanks for the help," he replied, before turning his head to Tori, the Nidorina as alert as normal.

Leaving the cabin, he looked up at the night sky, and exhaled. He was bushed, and felt the need to recover. Taking the Nidorina's paw, he made for the exit to the garden, to recuperate and re-evaluate the location, planning on coming back to Zephyria in a few weeks.

OOC: Many thanks MS, picking up the TMs and goggles.

+++++

It was several weeks since he had been to Mount Zephyria to check the location out, and what was a simple stroll through the Rose Garden had ballooned into a race against time to save his Nidorina from the effects of toxic mushrooms. He had came not fully prepared, but through the efforts of his allies, one of whom had evolved in the process, was successful in the rescue.

Now, however? Alex was here for a long haul. With gauntlet secured, he had gotten used to the prosthetic, and pushed the previous call of aid only a couple of weeks ago to the back of his mind. Over the next couple of weeks or so, he planned to climb the mountain, to test himself and his pokemon. After the sneak peek at the upper levels, he was aware of the trials ahead, and had made sure to stock up on supplies.

"Luuuur..." a deep grumble echoed from behind him. "Holding up there, Gol?" he replied. Of course he wasn't going to lug around the equipment himself, not when he had an almost fourteen foot tall colossus to do that for him. Golestandt stood by, a massive satchel calmly hoisted over shoulder, big enough to hold a couple of humans within easily, but there was no plot of murder here. No, within was a sizable tent and food, plus gear for outdoor survival. The Golurk didn't complain: after all, were his kind not created to serve? He was certainly a great help.

There was also another purpose here: Alex had heard through the grapevine that the waters of the Starline river was a fantastic place to relax, and had heard of rumours that there was a spot that could cleanse troubled spirits, though these rumours were based off a chain of whispers in town not too far from his base, and were likely false. However, the spark of adventure was in the air, and so too was the other two pokemon currently outwith their balls, though one of them was out to make sure the other didn't destroy Alex's other hand.

Ever since that day at that faroff isle, Totsuka had been a lot more mindful of her surroundings. Having taken her to the winter fayre in another settlement far from Zephyria, the shadow Zangoose seemed troubled, and Alex thought it wouldn't be a particularly bad idea to bring her out, for if the rumours were true, then the darkness in her heart could be purged. On the other hand, Caladbolg was not so much a watchful eye so much as a playful buffoon who was only being dragged out because he irritated the shadow pokemon the most, and Alex felt the pair needed to get some bonding exercise somewhere. The river seemed the least troublesome spot, and the Zangoose was mercifully lazy, not one to bat an eyelid at much. Heck, Wollminster's brought out a surprisingly charitable side to her, and if all went well then maybe, just maybe, the door to her heart could be opened.

So it was that Alex and company slowly followed the river, looking for anything of interest. If not, then they could at least settle down somewhere and have lunch by the riverside. The Garchomp enjoyed lunch a lot.

After long, agonizing minutes, you were close enough to the Pokemon to scoop it up into your arms. The soundwaves it was creating slammed your chest, right where you had received the bruise from Larvitar. Julian watched in shock as you brought the Whismur into a comforting hug.

You attempted to muffle the noise by pressing the Whismur’s mouth to the fabric of your shirt. In order to comfort it, you whispered to it gently, though it was hard to know if the Whismur could even hear you. The small pink creature was surprisingly soft and warm. You pet its ears, which were still flapping up and down with its cries. Though your ears were still ringing, you noticed that the Whismur seemed to be calming down. Once more, you pressed down gently on the Whismur’s ears, and the Uproar was coming more and more infrequent. Finally, the Normal type wiggled a bit in your arms, took a large yawn, and promptly fell asleep. You and Julian breathed a sigh of relief in unison, enjoying the newfound silence.

While you appreciated the Whismur’s cute sleeping face, the ground began to rumble again. Was it some kind of aftershock? You looked up to see an angry, purple Pokemon stomping toward you, its yellow mouth wide open. It was pointing toward you and the Whismur cradled in your arms. It began to stomp in place, the look on its face getting more and more furious. It inhaled sharply, but then seemed to notice that the pre-evolved form of itself was fast asleep. It furrowed its brows, and instead opted to run straight toward you, fist balled up to deliver a Pound as quietly as it could.

"Whooo, I can almost hear my self think again." Sypher mussed at the lapse in noise. He looked down at the Whismur now dozing in his arm. "You're really cute when you're asleep." Then he felt the world jiggle again. He felt his stomach sink as he knew something bad as about to happen. He swiveled to see what could very well be an unstoppable force lurching towards him. And he ran, his only thought being "Nope". He passed Julian who was only just now uncovering its ears. As he did, their eyes met; one formed by panic, the other confusion. "Run!" Sypher said in a suppressed yell.

Mint and company relished the wind at their backs as their journey commenced, though it was soon interrupted by the sounds of battle from over a nearby hill. Running to the sound, she and her companions were treated to the sight of a rather one-sided contest, a young boy's Raticate against an equally young girl's Sentret, the Raticate clearly set to be the winner. It tugged at Mint's heartstrings a bit-she was far more fond of Sentret than she was of anything remotely related to Raticate, as it were. Trainers with Raticate, from Mint's experience, tended to be either habitual thieves, jerks, or, very rarely, an actually decent person too sentimentally attached to their first catch to get a better Normal Type, and you didn't see the latter in Sinnoh, as Rattata didn't show up there much to begin with. All in all, they were just bad news nine times out of ten and then some. As the fight went on, however, a yellow bird Pokémon bouncing in the grass and cheering on the Sentret to little avail caught Mint's eye-it looked like the ends of its wings were poofing out into pompoms of some sort, as if it were a cheerleader.

"Sprocket, what's that Pokémon over there, off to the side?" Mint asked her Rotom Dex quietly, so as to not distract the battlers or their Pokémon. Sprocket simply made to scan the Pokémon, quite a feat from afar, but perhaps easier for a Rotom than for a human.

"Subject izzzz...Oricorio, the Dancing Pokémon. In thizzzz Pom Pom form, an Electric-Flying Type. Thizzzz Oricorio hazzzz drunk bright yellow nectar. When it seezzzz someone looking glum, it will try to cheer them up with a dance." Sprocket recited, proud of himself.

"Ooooh, cool! I guess that girl is looking kinda down right now..." Mint noted. Just then, the Raticate at last finished off its opponent. Just as Mint was about to look into battling and catching the Oricorio, however, the scene quickly turned sour. The boy put out his hand as though to take prize money, but instead, the girl reluctantly handed over the Poké Ball to which she'd returned her fallen partner.

And in that moment, that one stroke was enough to set Mint off hard.

Sprocket tucked himself away in Mint's backpack the moment he saw her expression upon witnessing this development, as Mint herself strode down the hillside in large, purposeful strides, with a death glare to rival Clair's after losing a match and a loud shout of "HEY!" to catch the pair's attention. As she arrived at the bottom of the hill and stood up to the boy, apparently by the name of Marcus, he began to explain that Kimmy had agreed that the loser would forfeit their Pokémon, but Mint would have none of it, having heard Kimmy's protests on her way down.

"An agreement is made between two parties who are open and honest with each other. I've heard enough to know that's NOT what happened here." she interrupted Marcus mid sentence with a snarl, as she lightly jostled the shoulder Celeste was perched on, causing the Chatot to jump to her now-held up wrist.

"NOT!" the Music Note Pokémon chimed in in an angry voice.

"So, here's what's gonna happen: I'll take you on with just my little Celeste here. If you and your Raticate win, you can keep that Sentret as long as no one else has a thing to say about it. If I win, you'll give it back and apologize to her. If you continue to make a fuss, I'll simply get the authorities and/or your parents to teach you the meaning of 'don't be a thief.' Got it?" Mint added, as she stepped away to take position on the battlefield. To Celeste, she whispered, "You know what the boy sounds like. Once we're started, use Chatter to mimic his voice and confuse his Pokémon into inaction, then attack it with Hyper Voice to worsen the headache. Got it?" Celeste nodded in reply, understanding. Mint then turned to Kimmy. "Don't worry-if this kid somehow beats me, I'll catch you something nice. Something better than a Raticate, at any rate." she said, making clear her distaste for Raticate and its ilk. With everything ready, she turned to Marcus, the arm on which Celeste was perched ready to propel the Chatot into the air once the battle began. "So, what's it gonna be?" she called to the young boy. Lake Trio help her, she wasn't leaving without putting the fear of Arceus back in this upstart, or at the very least the fear of Sunyshore.

It was time for battle.

Raves: You followed the Starline River as it lazily winded down from the icy peaks of Mt. Zephryia. It was still a bit cold, it was winter after all, but down by the river it was definitely still nice enough to enjoy a picnic. You were not out of place at all with your towering Golurk and other strong Pokemon. All around the river were trainers with their Pokemon, some looking to battle and others just appreciating the great outdoors of the Cloud Garden. The river gets wider as you walk further down the path. The water has gotten deep enough for fishing, and there are several small boats and canoes positioned on the water. Some of the people fishing give you a dirty look. The shadows you and your Pokemon are casting are scaring the fish. You take the hint and hurry along.

You’ve spent a good amount of your day walking and your Pokemon seem ready to take a break. A sign points you to an area labelled ‘Campgrounds’, and Golestandt is happy to put the gear down and start setting things up. Caladbolg helps out, if only to go through the food and pick out his favorites first. The river is obscured by tents and trees but you can still hear the gentle rush of water. It is certainly peaceful, and would be calming, if it wasn’t for the group of people sitting at a campsite not too far from yours. The group of teens is eyeing you and whispering. You also see them pointing and occasionally laughing. Your Pokemon see a bit wary of them, but wait for your call.

---------------

Brave Saix: The Loudred runs at you almost in slow motion as it tries to make as little sound as possible. You turn tail and flee in the opposite direction, whisper-yelling at Julian to run. You don’t have many options for running away, you’re so close to the edge of the cliff already. Carrying the Whismur close, you and Julian make a wide arc around the Loudred. It momentarily loses sight of you, and takes to stomping its feet lightly in repressed anger.

You run through the patch of tall grass and can still hear Loudred coming up behind you. The only place to run now is into the cave Loudred and Whismur must have come from. You run in without hesitation, maybe you can lose it in the cave somehow. The sun provides some light in the entrance of the cave but the further you go the darker it gets. It takes you a moment to notice but Julian isn’t following you anymore. You turn to see him silhouetted in the light pouring into the cave. He is poised, berry on the ground under one of his hands, ready to attack. His tail swishes back and forth as if to intimidate his enemy. Loudred brought a fist down to Pound the Passimian, but he retaliated with Tackle. He then Leers at Loudred to lower its defenses. The cave doesn’t look to go much deeper, and Julian is more than willing to take on this Loudred as quietly as he can. What will you do?

---------------

Maskerade: Not knowing whether you were imagining the woman in front of you, you give her a shaky greeting. Her face looks more and more concerned as you explain how you made it here. The strange riddles and puzzles that led you to this dark end of the cave. Your Pokemon stay close to you, they seem unnerved by the pale woman.
“Oh dear…” she says suddenly. Her voice is quiet and sounds much older than what her more youthful looks would have you believe. She walks past you and approaches the Baltoy, who spins happily at her presence. She places a hand on her cheek and shakes her head. “Good try my friend, but this isn’t him…He certainly looks a lot like him, though.” She smiles, then looks over to you fondly. Baltoy tilts its head and stops spinning to get a better look at you. It looks quite sheepish.

“I’m so sorry for leading you all the way here… and I apologize for the trouble my Baltoy and Bunnelby caused. They are old friends of mine and sometimes they enjoy playing with trainers a bit.” She is looking down at Baltoy and her face looks rather sad. She also continues to emit a faint light. Her kimono is rather long and it makes it hard to see her feet. “If you have time, would you listen to an old woman’s story? You seem like the curious type.” She takes a seat on a large rock and pats the seat next to her.

The woman's first words made Rorik's heart sink in his chest. "This isn't him".

I was the wrong man.

Rorik's eyes shift between Munchlax, Staryu, Baltoy and the strange, glowing woman. Had this all been a huge misunderstanding? A wild goose chase? For a while, he'd entertained the idea that he was destined for something grand, that there was a bigger picture, that he was part of a higher design. Could it be that this was all a game put together by rabbits and clay figures, for the wrong player no less? Rorik's self-esteemed had always been lacking, but at that point, it reached an all-time low.

I answered every riddle, surpassed every puzzle! Was it all for nothing? The brainstorming, running, chasing, battling?

Munchlax punched him on the leg, sensing his Trainer's usual pessimism. The strike hurt, but that was the point - the bear had very little patience for Rorik's self-commiseration.

"Ouch! Okay, I... I might have deserved that," the Professor mumbled under his breath. "But how do you expect me to feel?"

Munchlax wasn't in an arguing mood. If Rorik wanted to sulk, let him; the bear sat down in front of the mysterious elder, sided by Staryu - they wanted to hear a story, even if Rorik was too busy feeling sorry for himself.

They put in just as much effort as I did. Why are they not upset? Is this all a game to them as well?, thought Rorik in astonishment, before laughing out loud. And who on earth ever told me this was anything more than a game? I chose to play it anyway, and I had fun... Even if I'm not the one this woman sought, I can at least lend her a friendly ear.

The Professor did as instructed and took a seat of his own.

"Very well... let's hear your story, miss."

Maskerade: The pale woman smiles and clasps her hands together in joy at Staryu and Munchlax as they take a seat in front of her. You decide to take the spot offered next to her and prepare your listening ears. Something about her seems familiar, but it is hard to place. Perhaps someone you had seen in passing?

"The Stone Shrine has been here for many, many years..." She starts, looking of into the distance wistfully. As she speaks, Baltoy spins slowly. "This underground shrine was created by the people who were saved by Diancie, the one you see in the mural. Even in my time, that story was ancient history, but I have always found a comfort in this place. I met him when I was a very young girl, and he was always so intriguing to me. He was from far away -- I always wanted to travel you know --, and that red hair...!"
She looks at you, remembering. Munchlax and Staryu turn to look at you as well, and Munchlax points to your hair.
"That's right little one, I'm sure that's how Baltoy mixed you up. Anyway... He wouldn't even notice me at first, always lost in those books!"

You aren't sure if it is Baltoy projecting images into your head again, or because of her talent at storytelling, but you can see the scene play out. A teenage shrine maiden peeking around the corner of the Stone Shrine at a foreign visitor, being teased by a giggling older sister. She goes on and you can see the two of them talking, him teaching secret codes and her teaching poetry. Both of them blushing. Young, starcrossed lovers sneaking away to the isolation of the cave, discovering the secret of the torches on the wall. They look over the mural together in awe, hands interlocked.

"He left one day..." The woman's voice is so quiet, you have to lean in to hear her. Though the story has gotten sad, she still speaks as if it was the most wonderful thing to ever happen to her. "I always meant to go visit him, but I got so caught up with my responsibilities here at the Shrine. I always hoped he would come back, even if everything had changed."

Munchlax is sitting leaning foward with elbows on the ground and chin in his paws. Staryu looks just as interested, its gem sparkling. You had been so invested in the story until you did not notice that Bunnelby had joined the group and was snuggling up to the woman.
"You're kind to listen to an old woman," She looks at you and places a hand on yours. You can't feel it, but you understand the gesture. "Maybe I just needed someone else to know."

It goes dark again. You can sense that it is time to go. The Baltoy lights up and together with Bunnelby it leads you and your Pokemon out back out of the cave and to the entrance. The sun has almost set, the moon slowly rising in the sky. Baltoy spins back into the darkness of the cave and Bunnelby scampers off. A strong gust of wind blows by and you notice a small wrapped package at the entrance of the cave.

You have recieved:
TM 99 Dazzling Gleam
TM 39 Rock Tomb
Cleanse Tag
Heart Scale
Munchlax and Staryu have gained 2 levels!

Hope you enjoyed your adventure Mask! Please continue to adventure in the CG if you'd like! c:

Leo seemed friendly, and although Isaac knew he wasn't exactly in the ranger's good books, he seemed genuinely concerned for his well being. Leo even offered a shoulder for Isaac to lean on, which was greatly appreciated considering the burning feeling in the cuts on his back. Surprisingly for Isaac, the ranger's cabin actually wasn't that far off from where they were. Perhaps if he had been faster he could have avoided a bear attack, but his legs and lungs weren't exactly the best. He would admit, as much as his back burned from the claw marks embedded into it, there was a great relief that he was even alive. He couldn't wait to tell Vinny all about it, but he knew it was best to wait until the Ursaring was out of sight. Vinny had quite the temper when it came to her master, and she would almost definitely lose a fight with such a large Pokemon.

As they crossed the rolling hills of the plains, Isaac felt a cool breeze move over his back. It felt nice, to say the least. He felt his mouth go dry, he was craving a smoke. He knew it was best to avoid one for now, but he could feel his hands shake with anticipation as they slowly moved towards his pockets. He fought the urge, but it always came crawling back. Maybe one day he'd quit, but today was certainly not that day. As they crossed the rolling hills, Isaac took a look around. The Cloud Garden really was breathtaking, and it made him wonder where he wanted to explore next.

Arriving at the cabin was the easy part, as Isaac entered he couldn't help but feel slightly afraid seeing the large bear looming over him. Leo wanted to leave him out as a punishment, to see the wounds he had given Isaac. Isaac knew the bear wouldn't attack him again, but he may have found himself a new fear. As Leo walked over to a first aid kit, he offered Isaac a machine at which to heal his party. He sighed with relief, pulling out his Pokeballs and placing them on the machine. His new Stunky and Vinny were in rough shape, and he was sure the journey ahead would be even more action packed. Once his Pokeballs were on the machine, Leo asked him to take off his shirt so he could dress the wound. Isaac's face instantly flushed red, he had always been embarrassed to pull off his shirt in front of anyone. Now he had to do it in front of a ranger, who dare he say, was actually rather handsome. Isaac slowly pulled off his shirt while chuckling to himself.

"Geez, buy a guy a drink first?" He said in a light tone, chuckling while he did so, sitting in front of Leo so he could patch him up. He hoped Leo could tell he was joking. Before Leo began he asked Isaac where he would be heading next, causing Isaac to perk up a bit.

"I'm thinking the Rose Garden. I like flowers a lot," He blushed once again, "I actually keep my own garden at home, it helps me relax. Maybe while I'm there I can even find a new Pokemon, hell, maybe I'll even take on the trial." He smiled to himself, waiting for the burning sensation that Leo had promised.
