Munchlax took a moment to forget his worries and boost his defense against any special attacks he might encounter.

With your team prepared, you continued your way down the low-ceiling hallway. There were more drawings on the wall, and although you wanted to be careful, you couldn’t help but take a look. A group of archers and Pokemon like Lycanroc and Carbink were depicted fighting against the dark figures that you had seen surrounding the town. However, they didn’t look to be winning. The next scene showed fallen trainers and Pokemon, with Priestesses at their side attempting to heal them. The dark shadows loomed in a swirling cloud above.

“Munch!” Your Pokemon warned. The three of you stopped suddenly and looked to what Munchlax had noticed. In the distance, where Staryu’s light could not quite reach, was a glowing, red, flashing shape. It was rather complex, made up of two semi circles and a lower complete circle. The scraping sound echoed all around you. Staryu immediately put up its Barrier, right before a purple light surged toward your group. The light bounced off of Staryu’s shield, bouncing back at the direction it came. It lit up the hallway momentarily, just long enough for you to see a shadowy, spinning figure.
“What are we getting ourselves into?...”

Rorik’s overwhelming curiosity was slowly being replaced by a crippling sense of dread. The excitement he’d felt after solving the torch riddle now felt like a distant past, and the only thing pushing him forward was the scientist’s lingering, almost pathological need for truth. Because the further in they went, the more disheartening the drawings on the walls became, the louder the scraping sounds got, and the worse they felt about all of that.

There’s been a war. People and Pokemon united against a force that overwhelmed them still. Are these paintings a warning of what awaits us, or a cry for help to keep us going?

He wondered how others would act in his shoes. Erik, his brother, would likely use his Electric Pokemon to light the way and push forward with his unbreakable high spirits. Sai Hajimoto, the monk from Saigo to whom he owed his life, had an aura about him that felt like it could dispel any darkness, and a righteous spirit that would absolutely carry him to the end. Ulrik Holstadt, his damned father, would probably blast his way through everything unopposed with the sheer might of his dragons, and dispel the lingering evil without breaking a sweat like he always accomplished everything else.

And that’s why I also have to see this through to the end. I may not be as cheerful as Erik, or as immaculate as Sai, and certainly not as skilled as Ulrik… but I’m an accomplished Professor from a region of warriors! It may not mean much to anyone else, but… But I haven’t come this far to back away now!

The path led them to what could well be another puzzle, a strange contraption emitting a red light. Rorik approached the device to take a closer look, but as he did, something attacked from the darkness, just as he’d feared! Fortunately, his preparations paid off, as the blast intended for them bounced off of Staryu’s shield…

“What creature is that?” The Professor barely caught a glimpse, but regardless of what it was, it had to be dealt with, otherwise progress would be impossible. Rorik strongly disliked fighting, but this wasn’t he first time he was dragged into battle and, perhaps due to his Heimlan blood, he was adjusting rather quickly.

Whatever that thing is, it thrives on darkness. Let’s see how it likes a bit of light!

“We must stand our ground! Munchlax, you saw it too, yes?” When the bear nodded, Rorik felt reassured. “Very well then, let loose a Flamethrower in that direction! Staryu, if the flames’ light reveal the enemy, strike it with a flash of Power Gem!”

Hoping his light-emitting attacks would at least scare their foe away, Rorik turned his attention back to the complex device, trying to figure out what it was and if it could be used for anything.

Otherwise, we’re all stuck here…

Herex, finished recovering from her confusion of being surrounded by the strange light, joined your side. She looked worried at the glittering presence floating around your hand. Herex clicked her jaw at you in caution, but understood that you had a plan.

You meant no harm here, the glowing orbs of light seemed to understand that. After all, you were the only intruder that hadn’t attacked. It followed you as you moved your hand to your bag, and you felt some pressure against your hand urging you to pull the bottle out faster. The pressure persisted until the light surrounded the bottle, then danced back up your arm. You took a few steps toward Parasect, but then found yourself unable to move your legs. The light was surrounding it, and it felt as if someone was physically pulling your legs toward the ground. In order to calm it, you whispered your intentions. The small orbs floated near your mouth, moving with the shape of your lips. As soon as you finished your explanation and directed your Pokemon to back off, the orbs surrounded your hand again and you were pulled right up to the Parasect. The Bug-type’s blank eyes rose to look at you. Its whole body twitched, but it looked unable to do much because of its injuries. The orbs of light had left you, instead forming themselves in a barrier separating you from your Pokemon. The Parasect looked back down at the ground, too tired to resist anymore.

Your team watched you delicately approach the Parasect. Glasspine reduced the intensity of his Sand Tomb, and the Paras struggled to get back to their feet. Suddenly, the Paras all cried out triumphantly. Herex felt something drop on her head, and she looked up to see the soil above her moving, chunks of it raining from the ceiling. Small claws burst through the dirt, and more Paras were coming to assist their compromised comrades. You had gained full access to Parasect, but time was running out.
The light was unusual indeed, as the pressure it exerted on his hand seemed to be pushing him to withdraw the bottle faster, until it was out of the bag and surrounded by the light. The experience was strange, even as he approached the fallen bug, when the light pulled at his legs as though dragging him down, it seemed the light was actively trying to hurry the process along. Herex clacked her jaws, but did as was told and held back, while Pridwen sat there, looking at the light as it formed a barrier between human and pokemon.

As he whispered to the light as it were, the orbs followed his lips, a sensation that was definitely making him a little uncomfortable, but he persevered. A bit of discomfort was worth saving pokemon lives for, and when he finished he was brought up to the Parasect. He had no idea what possessed it to do what it did, and he reacted only in defence of his own pokemon, yet the injured bug couldn't do much but twitch, exhausted from dragging itself to safety and the prior battle. Before he could do anything, and without his knowledge due to the light barrier, things were about to get heated outside.

The Drapion looked up at the sensation of something landing on her, as the Paras, not as trapped anymore, gave a cry of triumph. Reinforcements. Looking around in concern, the three pokemon realised that for the time being they were on their own, and the hordes would be upon them. For Pridwen, this wasn't a concern: his iron barbs and boosted physical defence would mean the Paras would do more harm to themselves, though if they did swarm him a good gyro ball would surely knock them off, and a pin missile squall would deter them further, though not at the light. Herex meanwhile figured that a good defence was ideal, preparing to scatter a ring of toxic spikes around her and Glasspine, which could be cleaned up by the poison pokemon in need of escape, while the ones coming from above would be thrown aside and out of the way with her natural strength and false swipe combo.

Glasspine stood there, concerned. The sand tomb was petering out, though it still held the Paras, but the newcomers were making their way from above, and possibly behind. The Sandshrew had little other options but to bide his time, and to safeguard himself and the Drapion from any statuses, but was ready to defend himself with fury swipes if needed.

Within the light, Alex looked the Parasect in its eyes, and sighed. Getting access wasn't too hard, but how was he going to get it to give him the saliva? A brief moment, and he almost hit himself for not thinking of it in the first place. Bag still on him, he dug around in a compartment before pulling out a round blue object, the oran berry still as fresh as it was, bless the endurance of berries. He had a simple plan: show the bug the berry to get it drooling, collect the drool in the bottle, then when he had enough and sealed the bottle and stowed it safely in bag, to plop the berry just within reach of the Parasect, and to make a retreat, though his curiosity was getting the better of him.

"Okay, lemme make it clear here," he began, a slight air of authority around him, "what you did to those Roselia and my Nidorina isn't right, and they're in trouble, but you must have had your reasons for doing so. So here's what's gonna happen. I need your saliva to make a remedy for them, and you can have this berry to help you recuperate, but you have to make sure you don't cause trouble and poison other pokemon in the garden again."

Readying himself, he wondered how the light would perceive these actions...

Missingno. Master – This entire thing is getting out of hand. Every single time you begin to get through to the Pokemon something else happens that instantly breaks that trust. Now that you know exactly who has been setting you up, you have no problem with taking them out. In fact, you also very clearly encourage the other Pokemon to also take out their frustrations on the Aipom. The Kricketune is now just plain confused. It is only half listening to Miror at this point since it doesn’t know what it should believe anymore and is also getting pretty fed up with all the back and forth when all it wants is that berry that you’re holding. It ignores your explanation about the Aipom and begins to eye up that berry as if it’s planning something. The Rattata on the other hand doesn’t care about you but knows that the Pokemon in the tree seems to be pretty confident about finding more Nanab Berries so it decides that will be its target and charges at the tree and begins to climb up.

Of course, the Rattata probably wouldn’t be climbing the tree had Dudley done what he was asked sooner. By the time the wild Pokemon reaches the top and is ready to pounce on the monkey, Dudley has finally processed everything and uses his Telekinesis to pull the Aipom out of the tree, leaving the Rattata up there by itself. Now on the ground, the Aipom is still grinning despite its clear disadvantage. Dudley keeps the Aipom still but doesn’t attack just yet since you had told him to wait for everyone else to have their turn. Of course, no one seems to be doing much of anything at the moment. “You know…” Suddenly there is a female voice coming from behind you so you turn around. “It’s not like battling is forbidden here or anything but I really think that encouraging wild Pokemon to attack each other is totally inappropriate. And like, to have your own Pokemon force a wild Pokemon to be bait for the others… Like, seriously?” The girl you are looking at is the same girl you had seen chasing a Rattata around earlier. You can tell she is a teenager by not only her physical appearance but also the way she talks. Standing next to her is a Herdier who appears to be relatively content at the moment and barely paying you any mind. “I mean, we obviously have enough fighting between wild Pokemon going on already so could you like, not encourage it please?” It’s clear that the girl had only overheard the end of your conversation with the Pokemon and had not seen anything that led up to that point. No surprise though, yet another misunderstanding to add to the long list you’ve been building all day thanks to that Aipom.

The Aipom chuckles as it watches your interaction with the girl. It seems to really enjoy watching you get into trouble. That chuckle drew the girls attention back to it and now that she’s getting a better look she can see just how cute it is. “Ohhh how adorable is that!?” She begins to walk up to it in order to look even closer and at that moment, Dudley figures that maybe everyone had already had their turn while he was thinking about other things so he decides now is probably a good time to shoot off his Zap Cannon. The girl freezes as the attack is headed straight to her location since at this point she is right beside the Aipom. The Herdier can immediately tell that the girl is in trouble and runs in, Tackling the girl out of the way and taking part of the hit from the Zap Cannon while the Aipom takes the other part. “Oh my god!! Thank you, Lady! I’m so sorry, that was careless of me…” The Herdier who she called Lady was injured a little but seems to be mostly fine and doesn’t seem to be upset by what happened. The girl stands up, holding her stomach where she had been tackled. The Aipom, who must have been hurt by the hit almost seems like it wasn’t hurt at all because it is still smiling just like always.

“Rattata!” Suddenly, the Rattata that was in the tree leaps out and directly into your arms, tearing the berry out of your hands and attempts to take off with it. The Kricketune Growls at the Rattata and leaps at it with Fury Cutter causing you to get knocked over since this fight is starting to break out while the Rattata was still practically on top of you. The Aipom uses this distraction as an opportunity and Flings another Nanab Berry, this time at Dudley. It bounces off of the Shiny Slowbro’s stomach and lands on the ground in front of him since he had no reflexes to catch it at all. It’s only a matter of time before the two wild Pokemon notice the new berry. Then, the Aipom runs over to Miror and screams in his face with the most annoying sounds imaginable in an attempt to Astonish him and it worked, Miror had flinched from the sudden attack and failed to use his Spiky Shield at all since he was not expecting the monkey to come anywhere near him. “God this is so confusing!!! I just want this place to be back to normal already!” The teenager, who has been watching this whole time, huffs and expresses her feelings about this entire situation while glaring at you.

--------------------

Meetan – The Gastly was still hesitating, it was trying to decide if putting Mimi to sleep really would be a good idea. Mimi knows that there is no time to waste and uses the Gastly’s downtime to her advantage and uses a Confusion on him, throwing him around a bit. He is now completely offended that the love of his life is attacking him and also that the attack hurt so badly. Low on energy, the Gastly decides to go through with his Hypnosis and begins to let off some sleepy waves in Mimi’s direction. Her eyes are closed but she also wants to use her next attack and needs to see in order to aim it. She decides to take a chance and releases her Thunderbolt while opening only one eye slightly in order to aim. The Thunderbolt hits her target but so does the Hypnosis. The Gastly is knocked out and Mimi falls over sound asleep. (Mimi gains 3 levels) Axel wasn’t needed after all.

Still laughing, Greg returns his Gastly and says one final thing before attempting to run off. “Go ahead! It’s too late anyway! Not even I was expecting an explosion!” Greg begins to run away but Ivan reacts by immediately throwing a pokeball and releasing a large Ursaring. “Billie, grab him!” The large Ursaring has no problem snatching up Greg into a literal bear hug. “W-what the hell are you – mrph!!!” Greg’s face is now smushed into the Ursaring’s chest. Billie pays Greg no mind and just calmly stares at Ivan waiting for him to tell him what’s next. “Thank you, Billie. Now can you follow us? I want to make sure this guy doesn’t get away.” As soon as Billie nods, you are suddenly forced off your feet and are speeding away on a Pokemon’s back, which immediately reminds you of what had happened before. After you get your bearings, you realize that you are once again on the back of the Skiddo. “H-hey!! Can you at least take me along too!?” Axel has joined you for the ride but you look back and see Ivan trying to keep up and failing, he is also carrying the sleeping Mimi in his arms. The Skiddo hears him and loops around so he can hop on, he hands you Mimi and as soon as he’s up on its back the Skiddo takes off again. “Billie!! Meet us there ok!?” The Ursaring shoves Greg under an armpit and gives you guys a thumbs up with his free hand and before you know it he’s out of sight. “I’m just constantly getting separated from my Pokemon today…”

It’s not long before the Skiddo comes to a screeching halt, and just like last time you are thrown off your ride only this time Ivan’s back breaks your fall. After you roll off of him, he gets up quickly and offers you a hand. Once you’re both on your feet he looks at you with a very worried expression. “I hope you’re alright–” He doesn’t get to finish speaking before you both hear a voice. “You idiot!! What the hell were you thinking!?” Once again, the Skiddo has stopped just behind a hill so you both quietly crawl up to peer over it. No surprise there are splotches of sludge here and there. Besides that, you see a medium sized crater in the ground and an Electrode completely passed out in the center. To the right of the crater are two men you haven’t seen before and a large truck with a big trailer attached to it is in the grass not too far from them. On the opposite side of the crater you can see Joe sitting in the grass clenching his teeth and clutching his leg. Near him are two knocked out Pokemon, a Torracat and a Pancham. “He was getting in the way so I took care of it.” One of the two men speaks as he returns his Electrode to its ball. “There are other ways to take care of shit! Do you see this hole!? The boss is going to be so pissed off! Plus, there is no way that explosion isn’t going to draw attention!” The other man seems to be angry at the Electrode owner. “The boss is nothing. The one I don’t want to piss off is his wife which means we need to get out of here.” The two men begin to run to their truck. “Stop!!!” Joe yells at the top of his lungs but there is nothing he can do, there is clearly something wrong with his leg because he isn’t moving. Suddenly there is loud banging coming from inside the trailer of the truck and between bangs you can both clearly hear the cries of a frustrated Pokemon. “Tortle!!! Wartortle!!” Ivan immediately gasps. “They have Franklin!”

--------------------

myahoo – As soon as your Pokemon are in position, the trial immediately starts since Samuel’s Pokemon had been anxiously waiting. Ore gets to work right away and uses his Fury Swipes to claw at the log. After the first hit on the log, Reaper the Scyther who was handling offense immediately kicked off the ground in an attempt to Quickly Attack Ore before he could get anymore hits in. Ore manages to get in a second Swipe and as he lifts his arm for the third, Reaper comes at him with Quick Attack and flies right through him, leaving him unfazed as he comes down with his third and final strike. Only a split second before Reaper flew through the Sableye, Signal had managed to hit him with a Thunder Wave, so now he was dealing with paralysis and is unable to move again. With Reaper’s attack prevented, Ore has no problem landing his second attack on the log, with a dark aura surrounding his claws he uses his Shadow Claw to chip away at more of the bark. Signal attempted to use Reaper’s paralysis to his advantage and shot off a Confuse Ray while he was having trouble moving. Reaper had expected this however and managed to cover his ears and shut his eyes just in time, causing the ray to not affect him this time.

Meanwhile, there was another battle going on at the same time on the other end of the log. Odachi the Lurantis was fast, her role of log cutting began similarly to Ore’s, with Fury Swipes. She was so quick that she managed to get three hits off before Cirrus managed to swoop in with Aerial Ace and knock her out of the attack. Gladius the Kabutops was a bit frustrated that the Swablu had managed to get past him and wasn’t about to allow that to happen a second time. Before Cirrus has a chance to land their next hit, Gladius Hardens his body and leaps in front of the Cutting Air that was headed for Odachi and takes the hit himself. During this time, Odachi uses her X-Scissor attack with perfect precision and slices at the log. Before Cirrus has a chance to fly away, Gladius uses his Mega Drain on him and takes some health away from Cirrus in order to heal himself. Fortunately, the attack wasn’t too effective against the bird.

At this point both sides are even, it's clear that this is still anyones match. Samuel hasn’t stopped grinning this entire time, it’s clear that he is really enjoying this. “I can see you’re a very worthy opponent! Those are some fine Pokemon you have in there!” He is still watching the match as he speaks to you. Once the first round finishes he immediately begins to call out the next strategy to his Pokemon. “Alright you guys, we’re going to change things around a bit! Reaper, I’m going to have you pull back and take over as cutter! You’re going to use your Night Slash followed by an Air Slash on that log! And don’t hold back on that Air Slash! I made sure this log would be extra secure because we don’t want a repeat of what happened last time!” He nervously chuckles and rubs the back of his head with his hand as he thinks about some embarrassing memory. “Alright Odachi that means you’re switching to defense! Immediately use your Sweet Scent to make sure the opponent won’t be able to avoid you and then prevent them from getting to Reaper with your Leaf Blade like a true warrior! Gladius, you’re going on the offensive! Get in there with an Aqua Jet and then use your Night Slash!”

Rattata didn't seem to care about the situation- only about getting more Nanab Berries. And considering how confident Aipom seemed to be about finding more Nanab Berries in that tree, it seemed to figure that that would be the logical place to go. Meanwhile, Dudley finally lifted Aipom out of the tree with Telekinesis, but once the Normal-type was forcibly lowered to the ground for the benefit of anyone who might want to attack it... Rattata was already occupied with the tree, and Kricketune was too confused by the whole situation to realize that it really should be taking the opportunity Dudley was giving it. Gavin facepalmed, and felt like doing so immediately afterwards- the teenage girl from earlier showed up, admonishing Gavin for apparently encouraging the wild Pokémon to fight each other. Gavin sighed. "Alright, clearly you didn't see everything what just happened, or you wouldn't be defending this Aipom," he stated. "For one thing, it- you gotta be kidding me," grumbled Gavin, facepalming once more as the girl was taken in by the Aipom's cuteness. And then he noticed a rather alarming development- the girl was approaching Aipom, just as Dudley was finally readying his Zap Cannon, which was to be aimed RIGHT AT THE AIPOM! "Hey, whoa, don't do that, my Slowbro's about to-" began Gavin.

"BRO!!!" Dudley exclaimed, unleashing the Zap Cannon, oblivious to the rather undesirable nature of the situation, oblivious to Kenny frantically muffling and wobbling, trying to stop Dudley. Fortunately, the girl's Herdier was able to knock her away, though at the cost of taking part of the Zap Cannon itself, while Aipom took the other part of the move.

"...Do exactly that," Gavin finished feebly. "Dudley, you gotta be more careful," Gavin said patiently to his Shiny Slowbro. "I said to use Zap Cannon on the Aipom and only the Aipom."

"Sloooow... Bro," Dudley said, expression vacant as ever as he addressed the girl, though with something of an apologetic tone to his voice.

And then, the Rattata suddenly became a problem. It jumped out of the tree, grabbing the Nanab Berry from Gavin! "Motherf-" Gavin exclaimed out of sheer shock, as Kricketune started to fight Rattata for the Nanab Berry. Meanwhile, Aipom hurled another Nanab Berry at Dudley. It simply bounced off his stomach, of course- some people and Pokémon have Meowth-like reflexes. Dudley had dead Meowth-like reflexes. And then, Aipom ran up and surprised Miror with an Astonish- the Maractus, not expecting the Aipom to be attacking him, was unable to react with the ordered Spiky Shield, and to top it all off, the girl was glaring at Gavin, expressing her desire for things to be back to normal. "Hey, don't glare at me like that," said Gavin. "Believe it or not, you and I are in agreement on that. I've been trying to calm things down around here! You know why I was attacking that Aipom and getting Rattata and Kricketune in on it? Because that little purple troublemaker's been screwing with all of us from the start. I almost got things calmed down, and it got those two all riled up all over again," he said, pointing at Kricketune and Rattata. "Now then, maybe this time we'll have some actual success," he added, picking up the Nanab Berry that had been thrown at Dudley. "Hey!" he called to Kricketune and Rattata. "You don't want to believe the things I told you? Fine. Here- one of you keeps that Nanab Berry, the other takes this one, and now you each got one, so you can stop friggin' fighting over them. I'd prefer you just believe me, but if it's a lesson you gotta learn for yourselves, then so be it." And he put the Nanab Berry down before the duo, hoping to demonstrate that he wasn't trying to screw with them. "And you," he added, turning on the Aipom. "What, you think you're just gonna attack my Maractus and we ain't gonna fight back? Miror, ready?"

"Rrrractus!" responded Miror, hopping in front of Gavin.

"Damn right you are," smirked Gavin. "Start with Peck, go for Absorb, follow up with Secret Power! And Dudley," he added. "Use Heal Pulse." He pointed to the girl and her Herdier as he said this. "There's no reason either of them had to get hurt."

"Slow bro," Dudley responded. Kenny muffled in agreement, nodding as best as a spiral Shellder could be expected to.

It had been a close call, but Mimi had narrowly taken out the Gastly. Alice was very impressed given how fresh the baby was to battling, and against a Pokemon with a partial advantage no less. She flopped over, sound asleep (to be fair, she probably needed it), but before she could go and collect Mimi, Greg had to try and get a last word in. What a prick.

"Hey, don't you fucking dar--" Before the blonde could finish, ready to order Axel to retrieve the runaway, Ivan had done it before her. Awed blue eyes admired the mighty bear, having never seen an Ursaring in the flesh and fur before. When she was younger, Alice had liked the Teddiursa line a lot. She broke out into a grin as the normal-type squashed their foe, giggling, but the noise was cut out by a sudden shriek. Skiddo had returned, a rude reminder about earlier, and Alice knew she was really going to hurt after all of this.

Axel and Ivan (thankfully with Mimi) had joined the ride, and Alice clutched onto the collar of leaves for some balance as they raced to their next stop. "It's alright, they'll catch up. Cool Pokemon, too. Wartortle and Ursaring are some faves of mine, or Teddiursa at least." She added, gaze once again on the hills in front of them. The landing this time was just as inelegant, but at least Alice had the foresight to take her glasses off and shield her face before she ended up blinded from a bad drop. Ivan helped the young woman up, and Alice secretly enjoyed the brief holding of hands, but it was time to get to business.

"I'm guessing they're poachers, but at least they're bad at their jobs." Alice murmured. Axel had showed up at her side, and she briefly pet him, partially to make herself feel better as much as it was in subtle praise for her partner. She hadn't been sure what to do until hearing Franklin, and that was when the trainer knew that they couldn't wait. "Okay, Axel. I want you to get inside that thing with teleport and help the other Pokemon break free. If it starts to move, you get straight out, you understand? No risking yourself, we can't afford to lose you, too." She reached then for another ball, releasing a small fox of snowy white fur.

"Nina, use your agility to take these guys by surprise, and use your freeze dry on them. We can't afford to let them get away." Alice said. Her Pokemon nodded, cool and calm as she moved to execute her orders. "Come on, Ivan. Keep an eye out for Billie, too, we'll get through this."

After Samuel explained the rules and introduced his three Pokemon, Jayson called upon the services of his own team. On Samuel’s side was Reaper the Scyther acting as the cutter, while Gladius the Kabutops and Odachi the Lurantis prepared themselves for combat. On Jayson’s side, his own Scyther named Spartacus was designated as the cutter while Odysseus the Magnemite and Atalanta the Dartrix were the combatants. When both sides received their orders, they turned to face each other and begin the trial.

Reaper got right to work, slicing the log with the power of a Fury Cutter while Spartacus Danced around and sharpened his Swords. The energy surrounding Reaper’s scythes turned from green to black as his combo transitioned into a Night Slash, taking off the bark of the log and revealing a slight gash in the wood below. Spartacus followed suit, his scythes turning a reddish pink and scraping away the bark on his side with a Dual Chop.

While the Scythers started cutting at the log, Gladius the Kabutops darted forward at blinding speed. His body coated in water, he was almost like a jet ski as he glided across the forest floor, leaving a trail of mud in the process. Just as he arrived before Jayson’s Pokemon, Odysseus shot out some electrical tentrils as it tried to use a Thunder Wave to halt the Kabutops’ attack. However, the speedy Gladius had already reached his destination and slammed on the brakes, kicking up a giant Shot of Mud that broke right through the electrical attack and coated the magnetic Pokemon, seeping into some of Odysseus’ circuits. Not wanting to fall victim to that again, the Magnemite began to use its Magnetic field to Rise higher off the ground.

As Odachi held back to protect Reaper, Atalanta flapped forward and blew forth a Heat Wave. Odachi did her best to shield his ally with a Razor Leaf, but the leaves were instantly disintegrated. Both the grass and the bug typed mantises were seemingly bothered by the heat, and even the grass typed owl had difficulty maintaining her concentration and had to cut the attack short. With her job done for now, Atalanta turned back to her side of the field and hit Gladius with a powerful Giga Drain, causing him to wince in pain. The overall net energy she recovered was minimal however, because after she finished draining Gladius, Atalanta was rammed hard from behind as Odachi exacted her Payback on the Dartrix.

With the first round of action drawing to a close, Samuel’s Reaper had a slight advantage in progress of cutting the log. Odysseus and Gladius had both taken some tough hits while Atalanta, Odachi, and Reaper had received some moderate damage as well. Warm ups were long over at this points, as things were literally heating up. What will Jayson do?

After graciously tending to the wounds of their previous opponents, Jess, Iris, and Comfey carried on in search of the missing Flabébé. However, as they traversed further down the orchard trail, the environment took an ominous turn. One could practically cut through the humidity with a knife, and the hazy atmosphere obscured visibility slightly. One thing Jess could spot were a number of mushrooms growing from various tree trunks like parasites; a clear indicator of the trees’ poor conditions.

Not wanting to charge in to this spooky area too recklessly, Jess ordered for Iris to pull up a protective Coat of Magical energy, which the Sewaddle promptly did. A little less brave than her helpers, Comfey nervously wrapped her flowery tail around Jess’ neck like a necklace. Clutching the tip of her tail, she held a flower petal in front of her face to shield her eyes. None of the three really knew what to expect as they trudged forward, but the atmosphere was getting creepier by the minute.

A light giggle emitted from the somewhere within the orchard, and a shiver ran down Jess’ spine. A couple more giggles echoed from different directions all around them, followed by a soft whispering sound. They were clearly not alone in this area of the orchard, as something seemed to be watching them. A sudden flash of glowing lights pulsed out from a tree branch, floating down onto Iris, but what the assailant wasn’t expecting was for her Magic Coat to bounce it right back. The Confuse Ray floated back into the tree where there was a short rustling before something fell from the branch and landed on the grass below.

The giggling and whispering around them suddenly ceased, and a dizzy mushroom wobbled around on the ground. Upon closer inspection, it appeared to be a Pokemon known as a Morelull. It slowly sat back upright, although it swayed unsteadily as the whispering around them gradually resumed. Jess could try to investigate things here, although it might be best to proceed ahead before the instigators make another attempt to chase off the travelers.

Maskerade- At the sound of your voice, the complex set of lights lit up one again. Your Munchlax took a deep breath in, then let out a long stream of flames from his mouth. The fire lit up the tunnel quite well, enough for Munchlax to see a target. Standing only about an inch tall was a strange brown and red Pokemon. What you thought was some kind of glowing device turned out to be Baltoy, the Clay Doll Pokemon. It wasn’t terribly menacing, but it was definitely utilizing the darkness as a way to trick you and your team. It wobbled back and forth, levitating above the ground with eyes closed before Munchlax’s attack hit it. The attack caused it to spin away back into the shadows. Staryu took the opportunity to light up the cave once again with Power Gem. Its red gem sparkled and several beams of light burst forth. Your opponent looked shocked, opening its eyes slightly as another attack came towards it. Before Staryu’s attack hit, the Baltoy Hardened itself to raise its defense. Baltoy raised itself higher above the ground and surrounded itself with its own light. It unleashed a Psybeam straight at Munchlax. The technicolor light smashed into Munchlax and left him feeling rather confused. You noticed that the light reflected off of the walls in a flash of bright, sparkling pink. It looked to be part of some huge mural over the length of the wall. The light also revealed that you had hit a dead end. The cave did not go on any further. As the room once again fell into darkness, you lost sight of both your Pokemon and the Baltoy. You of course had the option to turn and run the other way, but you had come so far. In addition, the Baltoy seemed to be protecting something…

------------

Raves- Paras and dirt began to rain from the ceiling. Pridwen steadied himself and let one of the Bug types drop straight on to him. Its soft underbelly collided with his Iron Barbs, sending the Paras scuttling away in pain. Herex set up Toxic Spikes as more and more Paras landed. The poison traps embedded themselves into Paras, making them angrier. The Paras who were still falling noticed their companions getting hurt, and directed themselves to fall on top of each other. Soon, stacks of Paras almost as tall as Herex had formed, screeching and brandishing sharp claws. The tower closest to Herex and Glasspine spat out a cloud of Stun Spore, but Glasspine was quick to throw up Safeguard. Over by Pridwen, a tower of Paras toppled itself onto the Ferroseed. Pridwen spun himself with Gyro Ball sending the group flying in all directions.

Unaware of the battle going outside of the enclosed space you were in with Parasect, you retrieved a berry from your bag. Parasect’s eyes moved to look at it, obviously interested. It opened its hungry mouth, pincers clicking in anticipation. You held the Oran berry far enough from the Pokemon so that it could not reach it, and carefully gathered several drops of saliva. You only hoped it was enough. Parasect’s gaze went from the berry, to you, and back as you talked. It was hard to read emotion on the bugs face, but it did not seem to show any remorse for what it had done. As soon as you capped the bottle, Parasect hissed and lunged for the Oran berry, consuming it almost instantly. The barrier of light surrounding you disappeared, and you became aware of the sounds of your Pokemon battling. The towers of Paras had only grown taller, with more and more pouring from the ceiling. Both Glasspine and Herex were Swiping at their attackers. Pridwen was firing Pin Missiles taking out individual Paras like a sniper. The swarm of Paras was overwhelming, you guessed that almost every member of the species in the garden had come as backup. The way you had come still looked to be open, and from the holes in the ceiling you could tell it was getting rather dark outside.

Median Dia-

(Lol, I just always assume most types resist themselves, oops!)

The enraged Rock Skin Pokemon, mouth agape and ready to Bite, immediately went after Berue’s vine as his target. He clamped down onto her outstretched limb, not letting go despite being whipped around. Despite the extra cargo, Berue still went after Lunatone. Both her vine and Godzilla hit Lunatone, and the Dark type move knocked the Lunatone straight out of the air. This Knocked Off the Larvitar as well, who was pinned to the ground with the weight of the fainted Lunatone.

Your Mawile took charge of the other side of the field. Miapladicus understood her directions, but seemed unsure of actually getting the flag. It eyed Carbink carefully, making sure it wouldn’t move again. Madoka’s Lycanroc looked over to your Staryu with worry, and Louise took advantage of the distraction. She leapt into the air, delivering a swift hit with the heavy mouth on the back of her head. Lulu keeled over in pain, bringing a claw to her injured maw. With the Lycanroc out of the way, Louise was able to quickly Switch places with her Ally Staryu. Miapladicus was thrown off by suddenly being in a new position, but celebrated when it Louise reaching for the flag. As you watched, everything seemed to move in slow motion. Louise’s hand reached out and wrapped around the flagpole. She removed it from its base, and held it high in the air. A loud pop broke the tense silence, Madoka had grabbed a party popper from somewhere and fired it off in celebration. The trial captain returned her fainted and tired Pokemon, and walked across the field to meet you.

“Congratulations! You beat my trial!” She enthused. Even in the dark, her smile lit up. She rustled in the pockets of her hakama for a moment, and pulled out a small trinket.

“This is the badge for the Stone Shrine! With one more from Samuel or Primrose, you’ll be able to scale the waterfall and go higher into the Cloud Garden.” She placed the badge in your hand. “I’d like to give you this as well, it's the TM for Stealth Rock” She placed the technical machine into your hands as well. “I hope you can make good use of it!”

The stone lanterns surrounding the shrine were now lit up, providing enough light for you and your Pokemon to see rather clearly. The moon was high in the sky now. Madoka yawned.
“It’s late, isn’t it? I’m sure you and your Pokemon are quite tired. You’re welcome to spend the night in the cabin here, and if you’d like in the morning you are welcome to stay around the Shrine. I also offer lessons in teaching your Pokemon Rock Smash, if you’re interested?”

You recieved the following
  • Stone Shrine Badge
  • TM 76 Stealth Rock
Lousie gained 4 levels!
Berue gained 3 levels!
Miapladicus gained 2 levels!
Elenchos gained 1 level!

The swarm of Paras was overwhelming, you guessed that almost every member of the species in the garden had come as backup. The way you had come still looked to be open, and from the holes in the ceiling you could tell it was getting rather dark outside.

With the chaos outside as the Paras began to tunnel down, Alex's pokemon began to defend themselves. Pridwen simply braced as a Paras dropped down onto him, his iron barbs and solid defences saving him from any harm as the bug was sent packing in pain. On the side of Herex and Glasspine, their defensive strategy backfired when the Paras opted to simply stack on top of each other, forming angry towers of claws and mushrooms, the latter shaking a vast cloud of spores over the pair. The Sandshrew was ready, however, and erected a shimmering barrier to deflect the paralytic dust away from them, while a tower falling onto Pridwen only served to irritate the steel type as he whirled around and knocked them off. The fighting was hectic, but the concerns the three had was the lack of communication with Alex.

Within the barrier, the human's ploy worked as the Parasect began to salivate at the berry, clearly interested in the object. Wasting no time, he placed the bottle to the mouth, watching the vital essence enter the mouth of the container while keeping an eye on the insect, as he spoke to it. The way it looked between him and the berry, and the look on the Parasect's face all but summed things up for the trainer. The bug was indeed remorseless, acting only on instinct and the mushroom, but this would be forgiven once he got back to Persimmon with the saliva. With that done, Alex shrugged, dropping the berry within reach as he sealed the bottle, and was forced to hop back a few inches as the Parasect lunged. "Whoa!"

As the berry was devoured, the light vanished, leaving Alex to suddenly become overwhelmed with the sounds of combat. Paras, piles of them, attacking his pokemon. There was too many to count, all pouring from above as Herex and Glasspine swiped desperately like lumberjacks, while the Ferroseed was aglow with energy, firing needles at the individuals, taking them down with precision. The situation was dire, but what was worse was the view of the sky, and the darkness that was beginning to encroach. Time was running out, desperately.

"Herex! Glasspine! We got what we came for, let's beat a hasty retreat!" At his voice, the pair suddenly became more alert, both ready to find a way out. There was the incline they could dig through, but they had to be quick and hold off the hordes, while the Ferroseed continued to sit there, serving defensively. "Herex, spray 'em with a sludge bomb barrage, then dig us an escape route up that hill until we hit the surface! Glass, smash down those towers with a bulldoze to knock them off their feet, then get up that hill and try and bring the soil down on them with a magnitude! It's risky, but we need to slow them down so we can escape! Prid-"

The place had gone to hell, and the Ferroseed was getting tired. Tired of dealing with these bugs. Tired of having to roll around and get a bit dizzy. Tired of being stuck in this form. And yet, he recalled the events not too long ago. Rolling through the gravel, flicking little bits everywhere. Bouncing around in that big plinko course, and the shooting gallery. Those were fun. Alex knew fun. Those damn milk cans. He wasn't big or tough enough to knock them down. Not big enough. Not tough enough. Those bugs were cans. Taller than him. No. He was tough. He could deal with them. He was ready to show them who the real grass pokemon was.

The cavern was aglow with the energy surrounding the steel type, as Alex stood there in some awe. Whether through desperation or aggravation, there was no doubts about it: Pridwen was evolving. The metallic body swelled in a horizontal plane, the spikes multiplied. On the top, three of the spikes elongated and elasticated, the ends blooming into thorny orbs, and as the light faded, Pridwen was no longer a mostly sessile Ferroseed, but a resilient Ferrothorn, three tentacles flexing and moving as the pokemon got a feel for them, eyes still in a harsh gaze, but with much more vigour around them.

"Yes! Prid, hold them off for us with whatever you've got! Put those new arms to work!" Alex cheered, unusually excited. And the steel type was only too eager to try it out. He'd dig down and bowl into the fray with a rollout with his bigger mass, then topple everything in sight with a power whip sweep, before scaling that cliff with a rock climb running over any pursuers before the magnitude rolled down. Giving a testing rock, he prepared his assault as Alex readied himself to scale the hill after the Drapion, with the modus to get them all out of there and to beat a hasty retreat back to the cabin before it was too late.

Things hadn't gone exactly as planned. Samuel's Kabutops was faster than Jayson had anticipated, managing to close the gap and deal a nasty blow to Odysseus before the Magnemite could react. Atalanta had managed to get a nice blow on Odachi and Reaper but the Grass Mantis managed to use the owl's attack against her, getting some payback for the super effective blow. Thankfully Spartacus was already dealing some nice blows to the log, his attack boost would hopefully help him open a gap the longer the trial went.

Jayson noticed that by coming into melee range to attack Atalanta, Odachi had left Reaper unguarded."Quick Odysseus, Teleport over to the far side of Reaper and wrap him in a Thunder Wave!" Jayson knew that either the tactic would work or Samuel would have to rush to prevent it. "Atalanta shift in to guard Spartacus, use Shadow Storm to push Odachi and Gladius back then keep them on the back foot with a Razor Leaf!" Hopefully Atalanta could keep the pair occupied long enough for Odysseus to get to Reaper, if they could paralyze the other cutter than they would be in a great position. "Keep up the good work Spartacus, use Cut then Fury Cutter to slice through that log!"

Jayson had a bad feeling that the woodsman was somehow going to spin things back into his own favour. However Jayson knew that if he could stick with him until the end, he had a chance of clinching a victory.

TheKnightsFury:
Spartacus and Jayson had fallen a little behind right out of the gate to start the trial, but they didn’t let that faze them as they were determined to keep up the offensive pressure on Samuel’s Pokemon. Atalanta and Odysseus had dished out more damage than Gladius and Odachi, and Jayson had hoped that the result would end up wearing down their defenses. Steadfast in their strategy, Jayson called out orders for his trio of Pokemon to tackle the next round of action while Samuel did the same.

Eager to force the pace of the battle into his favor, Jayson called for Odysseus to take the fight straight to Reaper, who would be unable to fight back as long as he was the designated cutter. The Magnemite complied, instantly vanishing from where it floated and reappearing next to Samuel’s Scyther as it Teleported quickly to launch a sneak attack. Reaper had already sliced into the log with a hard Slash, but before he could move again, electrical tendrils bound him in place with Odysseus’ Thunder Wave.

“Quick Odachi, get back and free Reaper!” Samuel called out as his Lurantis nodded. Odachi turned about face and veered back to Samuel’s side of the log. With Odysseus’ focus locked in on binding Reaper, its back was wide open to a Super Powerful strike from Odachi. To top it off, when such a strike would normally fatigue the user, Contrary to common logic the attack left the Lurantis feeling energized and more empowered than ever. After being blasted by the powerful fighting attack, the steel type Odysseus was sent flying into a nearby tree, breaking its hold on Reaper. As the Scyther slowly Cut into the tree once more, Odachi offered a bit of Aromatherapy to ease Reaper’s wounds.

Meanwhile, on Jayson’s side of the battlefield, Spartacus had taken advantage of Odysseus’ efforts to slow down Reaper by putting his training to use. Spartacus quickly Cut into the log with his sharp scythes and then followed it up with a Fury Cutter, causing his blades to glow green in color. As Gladius the Kabutops stared down the two flying types, Atalanta the Dartrix moved back into a more defensive stance, looking to protect Spartacus at all costs. Gladius hurled a giant Rock Slide their way and in the face of danger Atalanta whipped up a vicious Shadow Storm to counter the attack, summoning all of her negative thoughts about the last time she was faced against an overwhelming opponent to blow a powerful gust of wind. The storm was able to stop most of the rocks, but a few were able to make it through and hit both Atalanta and Spartacus for super effective damage.

Now that it was her turn to retaliate with a super effective attack, Atalanta flapped her wings and fired off a flurry of Razor Leaves in Gladius’ direction. However, the Kabutops mimicked Atalanta’s strategy, blowing forth an Icy Wind to not only freeze the leaves but chill the two flying types to the bone. As they both shivered, the cold made both Atalanta and Spartacus feel a bit sluggish.

As the second round came to a close, the gashes on either side of the log were now appearing much more even. Spartacus might have even taken the lead by a slight margin, thanks to the delay Odysseus caused. Jayson’s Pokemon had all received quite a bit of damage this time around, while Samuel’s were looking more and more like seasoned veterans. All the while, Odachi and Gladius had expended quite a bit of energy, so who knows how long they could continue to keep it up. The damage was beginning to rack up on Jayson’s Pokemon with Odysseus in particular looking the worst for wear. What will Jayson do?

Samuel was turning out to be a bit of a dick. Not that he was a bad bloke, he just happened to keep shutting down Jayson's strategies and dealing decisive blows of his own. Jayson knew his Pokemon were going to be tough, but they had managed to exceed his expectations. Although there were signs that Samuel's Pokemon were beginning to tire. The Kabutops was still the main threat, if it continued to trouble Atalanta and Spartacus, then there was no hope for Jayson's victory.

"Odysseus a burst of Supersonic to startle and scramble Odachi and Reaper as you levitate straight over them and back to our side!" Jayson shouted to the Magnemite, he needed the Steel type to get clear and get to Atalanta's side.

"Spartacus keep your focus on the log, Dual Chop then another Cut. Atalanta, push Gladius back with some Drill Run darts. Odysseus give Atalanta a Helping Hand, then Atalanta go for a Giga Drain on Gladius!"

Jayson hoped that the support of Odysseus would help Atalanta to put an end to the Kabutops, or at least recover a large amount of vitality while further exhausting the fossil Pokemon. Jayson was banking quite a bit on this combo working. He needed Atalanta to be fairly fresh, as he intended to swap her over to cutter if Spartacus began to tire at his role. He wasn't going to do that while the Kabutops was still on the hunt though, exposing Spartacus to the advantageous typing of Gladius would be a mistake he would quickly and surely regret.

Ore landed both his Fury Swipes and his Shadow Claw, despite Samuel's Scyther's attempt to attack him. Of course, Ore ended up grinning to himself as the Scyther netted itself some paralysis thanks to Signal's Thunder Wave. Meanwhile, Cirrus managed to land one hit on Samuel's Lurantis, but the other was intercepted by the Kabutops, who retaliated with Mega Drain. Not that the Grass-type move did much to Cirrus.

"I can see you're a very worthy opponent!" Samuel said, as the three of them watched the battle. "Those are some fine Pokémon you have in there!"

"Thanks," Melissa reflexively said, though she wasn't sure Samuel heard her because he started calling out his next round of attacks. "Alright you guys, we're going to change things around a bit! Reaper, I'm going to have you pull back and take over as cutter! You're going to use your Night Slash followed by an Air Slash on that log! And don't hold back on that Air Slash! I made sure this log would be extra secure because we don't want a repeat of what happened last time!" Samuel rubbed the back of his head with a nervous chuckle and Melissa exchanged glances with her starter. That sounded like an interesting story... "Alright Odachi that means you're switching to defense! Immediately use your Sweet Scent to make sure the opponent won't be able to avoid you and then prevent them form getting to Reaper with your Leaf Blade like a true warrior! Gladius, you're going on the offensive! Get in there with an Aqua Jet and then use your Night Slash!"

"Signal, we're gonna need a Mist in here," Melissa said in response. "Then Shock Wave the Kabutops. Cirrus, aim an Ice Beam at the Scyther and follow that up with some Swift stars. Ore, Fury Swipes then Shadow Claw again."

She got a chirp of acknowledgement, the blinking pattern for 'got it', and some agreeable chittering.

[Regret number 1: Spotlight being Starmie-exclusive]
[Regret Number 2: Giving Staryu Analytic over Illuminate]

"So it was no device at all..."

It turned out what Rorik had mistaken for some sort of contraption was in fact a Pokemon - a lone but crafty Baltoy willing to defy the odds to protect something dear. It could be argued, however, that it was Rorik and his partners who were at a numerical disadvantage: they were battling Baltoy and the myriad shadows it employed as allies.

Indeed, the Psychic-Type had managed to confuse Munchlax through the cave's darkness, and only when his partners utilized light-emitting moves of their own did their foe become visible. The rest of the time, they were fighting in complete and utter blackness, Baltoy's territory.

Right, Rorik. Calm down and prioritize!

"Staryu, can you hear me? We need light - so shoot a shower of Swift stars into the air, you're bound to get a hit in!"

Hopefully the transient visibility would help with what followed. He waited until he could pinpoint his other Pokemon's location (despite the lack of visibility, a confused Munchlax was hardly silent or inconspicuous, and the Swift could possibly help too).

"M-Munchlax, hang in there!" shouted Rorik, rushing over to his dazed companion. Issuing any kind of command to a confused Pokemon with such strength could be disastrous. "S-stop flailing! Here, take this!"

He reached for his Bag with his free hand and retrieved a Full Heal. Clumsily, he opened the bottle, praying to Arceus that Munchlax didn't shatter the vial midway, and showered the bear with the medicine.

"Staryu, did you spot Baltoy with that Swift?" He could only hope so. "Then strike it down with an Ice Beam! Munchlax, can you hear me now? See where Staryu shoots the beam and throw an Energy Ball in the same direction!"

It was convoluted, but it was the best they had. Baltoy was a synthetic being, hence Odor Sleuth wouldn't help, and he wasn't sure he could rely on Staryu's natural luminescence to heighten visibility in such extreme darkness. Baltoy's field advantage was starting to feel insurmountable, but if this strategy worked, he'd at least have something to work off of going forward. If not...

... we're done for.

Samuel watched as Jayson looked eager to target Gladius and attempt to take the Kabutops out of the match. Fortunately for him, he had anticipated this and was already prepared to shift his strategy for the next stage of the trial challenge. “Gladius, Reaper- switch!” he called out with a smile. After calling out the rest of his orders, the Pokemon squared off, ready to resume the match.

Still chilled from the Icy Wind, Atalanta was a step slow as she launched herself forward at Gladius with her beak first, spinning like a Drill and ready to Run him down. However, the Kabutops was already back at Samuel’s side of the log, and a menacing-looking Scyther had intercepted the owl with a powerful Aerial Ace to knock her out of the air. As Atalanta crashed into the dirt, the disoriented Odysseus came to her air, hovering overhead and firing off a Supersonic blast at Reaper.

As Spartacus looked to continue chipping away at the log, what he didn’t expect to see was Odachi the Lurantis, completely unchecked by Jayson’s two battling Pokemon. Only one of Spartacus’ Dual Chops connected with the fallen tree before a Slash from Odachi hit him right in the chest. As Spartacus winced, he tried to fight through it and continue doing his job, switching his technique into a different Cut, but was promptly distracted and knocked off his mark by a flurry of Razor Leaves from Odachi.

Meanwhile, Atalanta had finally gotten back up, enraged and ready to get some revenge on Gladius. Odysseus did its best to lend her a Helping Hand despite not having any appendages to do so. However, the Magnemite tried in vain to clap its magnets together as the polarizing forces prevented the pieces of metal from ever touching. It was the thought that counted though, as Atalanta pressed forward, aiming to unleash a powerful Giga Drain on the Kabutops at the far side of the log. Reaper was not quite done yet with the Dartrix though, flying after her rapidly in Pursuit. Still disoriented from the previous Supersonic, Reaper’s attack missed his mark, but was still able to take the attack by acting as a body shield to his teammate.

With no distractions in his way, Gladius the Kabutops Slashed at the log with all of his might and flowed his strike quickly back into a Night Slash. By now, Samuel’s team had taken a commanding lead, having cut through his side of the log about halfway while Jayson’s team had fallen a bit behind; only having cut about a third of the way through. Atalanta had taken quite the bruising throughout the battle and it was unclear how much longer she would be able to hold up. “Y’all are doing great!” Samuel called out as he pumped his fist. “Gladius keep hacking away at that log- give it another Slash and then follow it with an X-Scissor! Reaper, hang back on defense and set up a barricade with your Double Team followed by a Brick Break on that Magnemite! Odachi, keep doing your thing! Give their cutter a one-two punch of Night Slash and Poison Jab!” With Samuel’s experience and chemistry with his team having taken a commanding lead, it was now up to Jayson to take the match back in his favor. What will he do?

What will he do?
"Fuck" cried Jayson as Samuel pulled off the perfect switcheroo, changing cutters while still maintaining his momentum. As Gladius began to cut at the log, Reaper turned on Atalanta, dealing powerful hits to the already struggling Dartrix. To make matters worse, Spartacus found himself held back by Odachi, the flower mantis taking advantage of the exposed cutter. Jayson now found himself lagging behind the trial leader, the chances of him losing were increasing with each passing moment. He had to think quickly he had to come up with a pla.......

Odysseus started to glow. The Magnemite had been trying his hardest throughout the trial, trying to support his friends and fight hard for his trainer. He had been feeling a power grow within him for some time, however his analytic mind had told him to hold it in for the right time. Two blinding lights shot out of the trees, slamming into the already glowing Odysseus. As the glow subsides, Jayson is marvelled to see that Odysseus was now fused with an additional two Magnemite. Perhaps the sudden tremendous increase in magnetism had drawn the pair in? Regardless of where they came from, Odysseus had now evolved into a Magneton!

Odysseus evolved into Magneton!

"Three Magnemites are better than one", chuckled Jayson. His hope was renewed by the Electric types evolution. As he watched the bright display, a bright spark ignited in his brain. "Atalanta quickly switch with Spartacus!" The Dartrix was quick to obey, whipping around to take the role of cutter as Spartacus locked eyes with Odachi. Finally unburdened from the role of cutting, Spartacus was ready to get revenge on the Grass type. "Spartacus tackle Odachi to keep her away from Atalanta, sink your teeth into her with a Bug Bite while you are at it. Keep pushing her back with Wing Attack, don't let her get near Atalanta!" With his Swords Dance boost and his Technician ability, Jayson was confident that Spartacus could overpower Odachi. "Atalanta, cut the log with Air Cutter then follow up with a Leaf Blade!" Jayson knew she wouldn't be as effective as Spartacus, but he was confident she would give it her best shot. Reaper was preparing to Double Team, a technique Jayson knew would make it hard to stop the Scyther. Luckily, with Odysseus's evolution came a few new toys that would make it easier to stop the mantis. "Odysseus use Lock On to determine the true Reaper and nail him with Zap Cannon when he comes in for the hit."

Jayson wasn't certain his new plan would bring them any closer to winning, but he knew it was better than conceding defeat.

As the skunky stench finally began to dissipate from the area, Isaac took one last look at the mossy landmark before lighting up another cigarette and turned to exit the clearing back through the path in which they arrived. Despite having her fill of unpleasant scents today, Vinny followed closely alongside her partner.

Once they were back at the main path of the Cloud Forest, Isaac spotted a familiar signpost. It has been helpful with directing them towards the Mossy Rock, so maybe it could help them again by showing them where the nearest place to heal his Pokemon. Right on cue, Isaac spotted an arrow that pointed south and read “Ranger’s Cabin: Galea Plains.” That had to be what they were looking for, Isaac deduced. With a new destination set, Isaac and Vinny turned and followed the trail in that direction.

It was a bit of a hike through the forest, but the weather was nice with a crisp autumn breeze while leaves rustled above as a few birds chirped here and there. Eventually the surrounding trees slowly began to thin out as they neared the edge of the forest. Not too far up ahead would be the Galea Plains. Isaac looked down at his Leafeon only to find that she was lagging behind a bit. Vinny was still poisoned and after a hard-fought battle and all of this walking, her stamina was at its limit. She huffed and puffed as she attempted to keep up.

Maybe it was because of this fatigue that she was unable to detect that they had been followed all this time until the snapping of some branches alerted both Vinny and Isaac. Turning around, about twenty feet away stood a large Ursaring. As it stood on its hind legs, a scowl ran across its face while it emitted a low growl. They could make a run for it, but Vinny would have a hard time in her current condition. What will they do?
Following the successful capture of Julius, Isaac realized that Vinny most certainly needed a rest. She forced a smile out, but it was clear she was exhausted and more than a little woozy. As they got back on the right path, Isaac noticed a sign directing them to the ranger's cabin. It would be a bit of a trek, considering that the way here had taken them a significant portion of time. And it wasn't exactly like they were in perfect health this time, well, Isaac was --- but Vinny was clearly at her limit. She huffed, her new form a little larger but still small against Isaac's side. She leaned against his leg as they walked along the trail, it was clear that her body was ready to quit.

"Don't worry, Vin. We'll be there soon." He murmured to her. He was proud of her, he had to wonder if Kyle had ever evolved Kale. They had always talked about it, always spoken about what their little evolution filled bundles of joy would turn into. Isaac was sure that Kyle had mentioned Jolteon, he wondered if Kale had ever gone through with it... he wondered what they were both up to. He looked down at Vinny, Kale had never really been anything more than a friend. He wondered if she ever wanted more from it, if she ever wanted to settle down with Kale --- pop out a few pups of her own. It was difficult to imagine the tomboyish Leafeon as a mother, but he was sure it was in their animistic instinct to want to reproduce. Hell, even Isaac wanted kids. It was a little unfortunate in his case, as he would never father any. Not that that was a bad thing, he loved Kyle enough that he was sure the two could adopt if Kyle ever had a whim of children. Well, that is, if him and Kyle were still together. He was sure other gay dudes wanted kids, maybe he'd meet a nice Fizzytopian boy --- sweet and cute, with a passion for Pokemon. He'd settle down, adopt a few kids... and then maybe this void in his heart and his music would finally be filled.

He was roused from his thoughts by Vinny giving out a low growl, he looked down at her and then followed her line of sight to see a tremendous Ursaring standing about 25 feet away from them. Isaac froze in place, maybe the bear was more afraid of them than they were of it. As the bear stood on it's hind legs, giving a rather menacing glare --- Isaac realized that this probably was not the case. Isaac looked down at Vinny, her condition was much too poor to try and escape this frightening creature... and she was also in no shape to battle. Isaac clutched her cherish ball in his hand, returning her to it.

"Rest up, Vin. I'll get you to the ranger's cabin soon enough." He stared down the bear, clutching his hand into a fist. He had grabbed another Pokeball from his bag, ready to retaliate if something went wrong... but for now, he was going to run.

He turned away from the bear, and made a run up the hill --- hoping to outspeed the bear.

Missingno. Master – The teenager silently listens to your explanation while still holding her stomach and she watches as you speak to your Pokemon as well. For once, Dudley actually does something immediately after he’s told and uses his Heal Pulse, first on the girl and then on the Herdier at her side. “Uh, thank you… Dudley.” The girl thanks the shiny Slowbro for his assistance as she finally let’s go of her stomach due to the pain vanishing. Meanwhile, somehow the Aipom’s huge smile managed to grow even wider once you and Miror decided to fight back, which was clearly exactly what it wanted. However, the Kricketune and Rattata were both holding onto the one Nanab Berry that they were fighting over while staring at the one you were offering up. Neither one wanted to let go of the current one out of fear that if they did, the other would run off with it while the new one is potentially a trap. So instead of letting go of the one they are both holding, they began to slowly approach the new one together.

This is when the Aipom springs into action and begins to kick at the ground and Attacks Miror with Sand before he has the chance to do his first move and then does a cartwheel toward the berry causing the other two Pokemon to pause out of caution. With sand in his eyes, Miror charges right up to the Aipom and gives him a strong Peck! Except, his aim was a little off because Aipom was now standing next to the Rattata and the Rattata was the one that was Pecked at. “Raaaattata!” The Rattata is mad now and clearly wants revenge but isn’t about to let go of that berry in order to get it. The Aipom begins to laugh and kicks at the ground once again hitting Miror with yet another Sand Attack! Miror could tell that he missed the first time but had a good idea of where Aipom was now and quickly Absorbed some of the Aipom’s health before it moved on him again as he attempts to shake even more sand out of his eyes. The Aipom was mildly upset at having its health drained and began shouting more of those annoying noises in Miror’s face in an attempt to Astonish him once again. Only this time, Miror was prepared and this didn’t stop him from releasing a Secret Power on the monkey. Or at least, attempting to. The Aipom casually takes one step to the left and suddenly the attack is aimed right at the Kricketune. And next thing you know, the Kricketune falls right over and crashes into the ground, sound asleep. The Rattata doesn’t skip a beat and uses this opportunity to run up to the second Nanab Berry while still carrying the first one, then grabs it and takes off with both of them. The Aipom is now in tears from laughing so hard and the Rattata is nowhere to be seen while the Kricketune is snoring in the middle of the battle area.

The teenager partially rolls her eyes once all of that is done and looks back and forth between your Pokemon and the Aipom a few times. “If you’re trying to help then you’re pretty bad at it. Like, you have two Pokemon here and you can’t handle one Aipom? Like seriously, those moves… The Aipom doesn’t even look like it has a strategy so I really don’t get why this is so hard.” The girl pauses to think for a moment before speaking again. “Sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I’m just like, sooooo over all of the drama around here. Anyway, I’m Ringo.” The Aipom is now standing on top of the snoozing Kricketune and lightly bouncing up and down as it excitedly waits for what’s next.

Meetan – Ivan was very worried about the Pokemon in the truck but he couldn’t help but feel a bit proud of the fact that you thought his Pokemon were cool. He knew that he had to live up to such a compliment. He watched as you took charge and was impressed with your levelheadedness in such an intense situation. Right after you told Ivan to keep an eye out for Billie, as if it was perfectly timed, Billie’s head became visible over a hill and slowly but surely as he approached, you could both finally see all of him. “Thank goodness...” Ivan said with relief under his breath just loud enough for you to hear. Once the large bear finally found his way all the way over to you both, Ivan began talking. “I’m so happy you caught up with us Billie, I knew I could count on you.” The corners of Billie’s mouth moved slightly upward after being praised, almost into a full smile before going back to his normal face again. Greg was still smushed into his chest and appears to have given up struggling for the time being while Ivan was basically acting like he wasn’t even there.

“Now that you’re here, I’m going to need you to guard this beautiful woman no matter what. Her Pokemon are busy taking care of the bad guys right now so you need to stay put right here at her side and make sure nothing harms her. Do you think you can do it Billie?” Billie gives Ivan a firm nod and immediately sidles right up against you so that you can feel the fur from his arm against yours. “Warrrrtortle!” Franklin’s cries can still be heard from inside the truck and recognizing his friends voice, Billie’s eyes widen as he glances toward the sound. “Don’t worry Billie, Alice’s Pokemon are going to save Franklin. You just worry about protecting her.” Once he finishes explaining the situation to Billie, he looks at you. “I have to go and check on Joe. The knocked out Torracat and Pancham over there are his and he looks like he’s injured, but I will come back to you Alice, I promise!” The look on his face shows that he is very conflicted about leaving you behind but he puts his trust in Billie and then begins to run over the hill and toward Joe.

Meanwhile, as all of that was going down, your Pokemon had gone to work. Axel had Teleported and was now inside of the truck and Franklin’s yelling and banging eventually stopped but there still wasn’t any sign of the truck opening up just yet. Nina had used her Agility to gain an advantage of speed over the two men attempting to run for their truck. She zipped ahead of them and quickly turned around Freeze Drying their feet before they could get any further. “Oh you have GOT to be kidding me!!” The Electrode owner yells his frustration. Suddenly, you can all hear the faint sound of what seems to be a helicopter in the distance that is slowly getting louder. Billie becomes tense beside you, the sound is making him uneasy so he shifts Greg so that he is tucked under one arm and puts his free arm around your shoulders and pulls you close since he is taking his guard job very seriously.

You had been briefly distracted by Billie getting as far inside of your personal bubble as he could and you’re surprised when you look back out at your Pokemon and see that Nina is currently Wrapped up by a Seviper. You can also see that Joe’s Pokemon had been returned to their balls and Ivan is kneeling down on the ground wrapping bandaging around Joe’s leg. The sound of the helicopter in the distance is still slowly getting louder but you also don’t see anything in the sky just yet. “They’re probably freaking out right about now.” Greg speaks about his comrades who are now dealing with Nina. “That helicopter is probably the boss and I’m sure they don’t wanna get caught having this much trouble. Man, today is just getting more and more interesting.” He seems indifferent to the situation now. He was once mad with laughter and struggling against Billie with all his might but now he almost seems like he is content being held by Billie, you don’t even know if he was trying to talk to you or if he was just vocalizing his own thoughts for no reason besides feeling an urge to speak. The truck is also still quiet, almost too quiet, and Axel is still inside.

---------------------

myahoo – The next round kicks off as quickly as the first, Gladius the Kabutops’ body is suddenly cloaked in water as he kicks off the ground and heads right for Ore. At the same time, Signal has released his Mist in order to prevent any of the teams stats to change. Ore’s claws begin to make contact with the log, in what it supposed to be consecutive Fury Swipes but is interrupted once Gladius slams into him with his Aqua Jet. The Sableye’s attack still managed to hit the log 1 ½ times and chipped the wood a bit before he was stopped. Gladius doesn’t pause for even a moment, as soon as his attack finishes he raises his arm up into the air, preparing to give Ore a Night Slash but Signal zaps his arm away with a sudden Shock Wave. Ore uses this opportunity to Shadow Claw the log with critical power! This puts a decent dent into the log, almost making up for the lack of extra swipes from his previous attack.

Meanwhile, Reaper the Scyther was getting ready to use his Night Slash on the log but was feeling a bit too paralyzed to move. To make matters worse, Odachi the Lurantis was too busy releasing a Sweet Scent, that didn’t really have much effect due to the Mist that was filling the area, to notice the incoming Ice Beam that was headed right for Reaper. The Beam of Ice crashed into the Scyther who was unable to move due to his status condition and sent him tumbling away. Reaper doesn’t even wait until he is fully back on his feet before he Slashes at the Air sending a blade of wind toward the log just before he gets pelted by a stream of stars coming from Cirrus’ Swift attack. With Cirrus’ attention on Reaper, Odachi attacks him a Leaf Blade just for the sake of it. Because Reaper had released the attack before getting hit by the Swift, the Air Slash cuts away at the log without any issue. Both sides are still pretty closely matched but this time it seems that your team is taking a slight lead.

“Alright, it looks like we’re going to have to fix that little problem of yours Reaper! Everyone, stay in position this round!” Despite your team leading, Samuel hasn’t stopped grinning. Although he’s competitive, it seems like he will be happy with whatever outcome. “Odachi, quickly use Aromatherapy to help Reaper out a bit! Then continue to use your Leaf Blade to defend Reaper from any incoming attacks. Reaper, you’re going to keep attacking that log! Use Fury Cutter and then give it another Air Slash! Gladius, get in there and take care of their cutter with a Confuse Ray followed by a Mud Shot!”

As Stufful, Patches, and Mio cheered from the sidelines, Timburr reached out with his big plank and rang the bell himself, signifying the start of the final round of the tournament. With little time to strategize, Kei squared off against his new opponent and prepared himself for yet another round of combat.

The Charmander started things off by charging the Timburr and pinning him down with a Body Slam. Timburr was ready for this, however, and used a Low Kick to quickly sweep Kei off of him. Kei got up and retaliated by engulfing his fist in flames to hit Timburr in the jaw with a Fiery Punch. Timburr grunted but swung his plank around like a staff, Pounding Kei in the side. As Kei winced from the blow, Timburr gained momentum and swung the plank around, slamming it down on the floor hard. A large stone was knocked up into the air, which Timburr smacked into Kei like a baseball for a strong Rock Throw. Kei yelped in pain from the super effective hit, but used the pain as motivation to Counter the force of the blow back onto Timburr, retaliating for great damage as well.

Things were moving fast as the battle had just begun, and the two Pokemon were exchanging some decent hits. Having fully warmed up now, the two Pokemon panted slightly as they tried to catch their breaths. As Timburr readied itself for the next eound of action, Kei knew he would need to match the fighting Pokemon’s intensity.
Patches and Mio were still on the sidelines cheering for Kei. Patches was jumping up and down while calling out to him and repeatedly telling him he could do it. Kei didn’t want to let his trainer down, but more than that, he didn’t want to let Stufful down since that Stufful was the only reason he found himself inside this ring. His jaw was aching now after getting smacked hard in the face by a rock. He knew he couldn’t handle too many more hits like that one. The berries certainly helped him feel better but he was still growing tired after already having to fight in two other rounds and each opponent seems to be getting stronger and stronger. He needed to end this somehow. He couldn’t handle this fight dragging out so he needed to act.

He puffs out his chest and glares at his opponent. He’s going to win this fight. He was ready now. He needed to let Timburr know just how much that rock hurt so he was going to immediately use Air Cutter. While the Timburr tries to recover from the hit, he would use that time to make the Day more Sunny in order to prepare. Then, he’s really going to end this thing by putting a little bit of distance between the two of them and Blasting him with Fire. Maybe he was going to too much of an extreme. He didn’t know if such a powerful attack was truly necessary but he was beginning to grow impatient. He knew that no matter what, he needed to pull this off.

As the situation turned dire for Jayson and his Pokemon, Odysseus the Magnemite began to glow. Suddenly without warning, the magnetic force in the area spiked as all pieces of metal on the trainers’ persons began to rattle uncontrollably. Samuel did all he could to hold back his axe from flying out of his grip and at Jayson’s face. “Woah there!” he called out. As if answering to a sort of homing beacon, a pair of wild Magnemite seemingly appeared out of nowhere and were drawn in closer by the glowing Odysseus, having been lured down from higher up the mountain. As the three Magnemite were pulled into an unbreakable magnetic attraction, orbiting around each other side by side, Odysseus finally ceased its glowing. “Magneton!” the three eyeballs echoed in unison.

“Wow, that’s quite the turn of events,” Samuel exclaimed as Jayson marveled at his evolved Pokemon and adjusted his strategy. With Odysseus’ miraculous evolution potentially turning the tide in Jayson’s favor, the two teams of Pokemon prepared to resume the trial. The weakened and battered Atalanta quickly switched places with Spartacus as Jayson’s cutter, while Odachi the Lurantis looked to deal the finishing blow. However, Spartacus stood in her way, the Scyther sinking his teeth into her for a powerful Bug Bite. None too pleased, Odachi quickly jabbed Spartacus point-blank in the side with a Night Slash to shake him off. The boosted Scyther then flew forward, striking the Lurantis with a Wing Attack, further doing his job to keep Atalanta safe. Odachi turned and retaliated with a Poison Jab, striking Spartacus for solid damage with it. As Spartacus huffed to catch his breath, Atalanta flapped her wings and struck the log with an Air Cutter followed by a Leaf Blade unimpeded.

Meanwhile, Gladius continued to hack away at his side with a powerful Slash and followed it up with an X-Scissor. Reaper the Scyther held back on defense and darted around rapidly, creating a series of after-images in order to confuse the newly evolved Odysseus. However, the Magneton would not be so easily fooled by the Double Team and was able to Lock On to the real Reaper with its internal targeting system. Reaper watched Odysseus’ eyes follow him and knew that his cover was blown. He flew in and quickly knocked back the Magneton with a powerful Brick Break, which unfortunately left him defenseless for a point-blank Zap Cannon that fired off through the clearing with a loud crack and a bright flash. Reaper crashed into a tree, barely hanging on as he struggled to get to his feet. His joints were locked up in paralysis, making it hard to do so.

Samuel bit his lip as Reaper was just about down for the count. However, he was still able to maintain his lead, as his side of the log was about 2/3rds cut through while Jayson’s side was about halfway done. “Odachi, quick, give Reaper another Aromatherapy!” he called out, anxious to make a last-ditch effort to restore his Scyther. What will Jayson do?

Naruxami:
With the menacing Ursaring standing on its hind legs and showing every attention of attacking Isaac and Vinny, the trainer realized that his newly evolved Leafeon was in no shape to run. The poison had sapped her strength and she was already worn out from her battle with Stunky. With little alternative, Isaac recalled Vinny back to her ball and turned tail.

Isaac bolted down the trail, hoping to escape the angry bear. He must have not seen many nature shows, because if there was ever a textbook example on ‘How to get Eaten by a Bear,’ he was following it to the letter. The forest was the bear’s natural habitat, and the Ursaring lunged forward after Isaac, barreling through the brush like it was nothing. The gap between them was closed in just moments, and a forceful swat from the Ursaring’s massive paw knocked the wind out of Isaac, causing him to tumble forward and crash into the dirt. His back seared in pain as the Ursaring’s claws had sliced through his clothes and left a small gash in his skin. Isaac spun around to face the creature, holding his arms up as a meager attempt to defend himself. The hulking bear stood over him with a paw raised high in the air ready to strike again and bellowed another deafening roar.

As the bear was about to strike, a faint cry was heard from back where they had come. “CUT IT OUT!” As the voice got closer, a man was spotted sprinting through the woods to catch up to them. “SMOKEY, STOP!” The Ursaring heard the person’s voice and turned its head back to listen. The man finally arrived, huffing and puffing and he took a moment to catch his breath. He was a young man in his twenties with dark brown hair and a clean shave and sported a standard ranger’s uniform. His ranger’s hat had long since fallen off while he was running, hanging on by the string around his neck. The Ursaring let out a frustrated grunt and gave Isaac a less-forceful shove before standing down to sit at the ranger’s side. “Hey!” the ranger protested, scolding the bear for its aggression.

“I’m so sorry about that, are you alright?” he asked, lending a hand to help Isaac back to his feet. “The thing is, Smokey really hates when people litter in the forest, and he hates fires even more than that.” As he spoke, Smokey the Ursaring’s eyes narrowed and glared down at Isaac. “Speaking of which, that reminds me…” The man reached into his pocket and pulled out a plastic bag with a few charred leaves and a cigarette butt inside. Isaac’s cigarette butt. “This wouldn’t happen to be yours, would it? Smokey picked up the scent from a mile away. We found it at the Mossy Rock where a Stunky seemed to have gone off, and I can’t help but notice that you have a faint scent of that as well… I’m going to have to take you down to the ranger’s cabin to write you up.”

The ranger looked and saw the blood dripping down Isaac’s back and his mood softened. “And we better hurry! I’m so sorry about my Ursaring once again.” He turned and gave Smokey a smack on the nose, who scowled and suddenly seemed much more docile than before. “Forgive my rudeness, my name is Leonard Johnson, but you can call me ‘Leo’ for short. Let’s go get you patched up, and along the way you can tell me what brings you around these parts,” he said with a reassuring smile.

Patches:
With the battle beginning to heat up literally and metaphorically, Timburr stared down Kei as the Charmander caught his breath and thought about how to strike next. He had little time to go over his strategy however, as Timburr tightened his grip on his wooden plank, continuing to hold it like a baseball bat and charged forward to strike once again.

As the Timburr drew closer, Kei slashed at the Air with his claws, whipping up a sharp gust that Cut into the Timburr who winced as he ran. Timburr smacked Kei with his wooden beam, looking to Chip Away at Kei’s defences, knocking him back. The flame on Kei’s tail grew bright as he looked to intensify the power of the Sunny Day in the sky. The beams of sunlight coming in through the treetops intensified and Patches began to sweat as the temperature escalated.

While this was going on, Timburr began to flex, its muscles growing and Bulking Up. Looking to try and end this fight as quickly as possible, Kei took a deep breath and blew forth a powerful Blast of Fire that seared across the ring and slammed into Timburr. The sun intensified the strike, leaving Timburr much worse for wear than before. Not to be outdone however, Timburr struck the ring’s floor once again, whipping up another rock and whacking it in the Charmander’s direction for another hard-hitting Rock Throw.

Both Pokemon were now breathing much heavier than before as some powerful blows were exchanged. Exhaustion was beginning to creep up on Kei, who had been in for quite the long fight at this point. The flame on his tail grew as bright as ever, a newfound determination welling up inside of him as he felt like something within him was about to change. What will he do?

Things had finally gone right for Jayson. While he wasn't able to slow Reaper down this time, he was at least able to execute his own plans to perfection. Reaper was paralyzed and Atalanta had got a clean cut at the log, meaning they at least hadn't lost any ground. Odysseus had landed a masterful hit, locking down one of Samuel's Pokemon but Odachi was quickly trying to remedy the Scyther's ailment.

Jayson racked his brain, he had to somehow prevent the Lurantis from getting off the Aromatherapy, but how? He couldn't think of an option, so his only choice was to exploit the paralysis while it was in effect. "Quick Spartacus, get over there and intercept Gladius next strike with a Quick Attack then quickly belt him away from the log with a Shadow Break!" If they were going to clinch the win, Atalanta was going to need to get her attacks off without interruption and she would need a boost in power. "Odysseus retreat to protect Atalanta. Boost her attacks with Helping Hand and get in the way of any attacks that come her way. Atalanta you need to give it all you've got! Razor Leaf the log then finish it with a final Leaf Blade!"

This was it, the final attempt to claim victory. He was unsure whether his team would be able to pull it off, but knew he had to muster some faith. "Let's win this guys! Push for the finish!" Hopefully their fighting spirit would prove enough.

Just as Patches was pulling out a handkerchief in order to wipe the sweat from her brow, something pulled her attention back to the fight. “Whoa!” She couldn’t help but gasp after seeing Kei’s attack. It was the first time she was seeing him use Fire Blast and she wasn’t expecting something like that at all. At this point, Mio grew bored of sitting on the log and had decided to join Stufful next to the ring, she was less fazed by the massive attack. Kei however, was completely blocking out those who were cheering for him. He almost couldn’t believe it. He was sure that last attack would have ended this already and was starting to feel even more frustrated.

He was exhausted and out of breath and almost wanted to give up. But it was the moment that the thought of giving up crossed his mind that he knew he couldn’t do that. He suddenly was overcome with a strange feeling and along with it came a new sense of confidence. His tail flame began to grow and something within him was burning with determination. He wasn’t going to back down, not after he’s made it this far. He was going to Body Slam that Timburr down and then while he’s down he going to punch him right in the face with a powerful Fire Punch. And if that doesn’t finish him he’ll just Punch him with Fire again until he goes down! He can feel it, he knows that this time, he’s going to end this.

Despite maintaining his lead in the match, Samuel could feel the pendulum of momentum begin to swing in Jayson’s favor as Reaper was pushed to the brink of defeat. He quickly called for his Pokemon to regroup fortify their defense, and as he did so, Jayson urged for his Pokemon to remain on the attack. If Jayson’s team could manage to keep pushing Samuel’s team back like this, he might just be able to pull off the upset and win this thing.

As Odachi administered another Aromatherapy to ease Reaper’s wounds and loosen his joints, Spartacus made ample use of Samuel’s distracted Pokemon to speed up to Gladius as the Kabutops readied himself to cut into the log. “Reaper, get back!” Samuel shouted as Spartacus smashed into the rock type with a not too effective Quick Attack. The Kabutops’ blades Slashed into the log with great precision, only taking a slight distraction from Spartacus’ attack. As Spartacus became enveloped in a shadowy aura, the battered Reaper darted into the air with great speed. Spartacus unleashed a powerful Shadow Break, but as he did so Reaper sacrificed himself for his teammate, ramming the opposing Scyther with an Aerial Ace. As the dust settled, a pair of Scythers lay across the clearing, both unconscious.

With Gladius able to slice into the log with a quick unimpeded Fury Cutter, Odysseus the Magneton hung back to support Atalanta the Dartrix as she worked on her own side. The trio of Magnemites attempted to offer her a Helping Hand, trying to clap their magnets together but to no avail as the magnetic force physically prevented the magnets from ever touching. However, it was the thought that counts as Atalanta flapped her wings and fired off a flurry of Razor Leaves at the log. Not to be forgotten, Odachi the Lurantis stood before Odysseus, looking to go through the trio of magnets to get to Atalanta. Odysseus faithfully blocked the path however, taking yet another Super Powered hit from Odachi to allow Atalanta to slice the log with a Leaf Blade freely. However, the protection came at a cost as the Magneton was now reeling; struggling to maintain altitude as its Magnet Rise wore off and its health wore down. And Odachi, on the Contrary came off even more pumped up than before.

This trial was getting down to the wire now as both sides were nearly sawed through completely. Both of the Scythers were down for the count, and Jayson’s two remaining Pokemon weren’t fit to last too much longer. Odachi was breathing fairly heavily at this point, but she was just as imposing as ever, while Gladius calmly waited for Samuel’s orders. “Odachi, use your Petal Blizzard! Gladius keep up your Fury Cutter!” he called out, hoping that would be enough to hold off his challenger. What will Jayson do?

Patches:
With newfound determination, Kei blocked out all distractions and focused on the Timburr who was putting up quite the fight. Both he and the fighting Pokemon were breathing heavy, but the fighting spirit of the two combatants burned as strong as ever, as they were seemingly evenly matched. As Kei racked his brain for ways to take down his foe, the Timburr was doing the same.

As the two opponents squared off once again, Kei lunged forward to make the first move. However, Timburr used the distance to his advantage, hurling yet another Rock Throw at the Charmander. Kei winced in pain but battled through it, Body Slamming Timburr to the ground. Kei clocked the Timburr across the jaw with a powerful Fiery Punch, and the Timburr retaliated by hitting Kei back with a striking Wake-Up Slap.

Kei’s eyes lit up as power swelled inside of him like a Blazing inferno. The Charmander began to glow brightly and grew in size as a singular horn developed on the back of his skull. As Kei finally stopped glowing, his scaly skin had turned a reddish hue. “Charmeleon!” Kei exclaimed, Punching Timburr across the face with another fist full of Fire, knocking it out cold for once and for all. The bell rung as one of the Mankeys smacked it in disappointment. Kei had finally defeated the tournament; its new champion.

As Kei sat there and panted, trying to catch his breath, Stufful cried in joy and climbed onto the ring, rushing over to give Kei a big hug. Pokemon of their word, the two Mankeys climbed into the ring and carried Timburr off before climbing back in, ready to hand Kei and Stufful the prize for winning and clear Stufful of his debts. However, before they could do so, they were interrupted by a loud cry from the far edge of the clearing. “Chaaaaaam!” It was the Pancham bully from earlier, and he wasn’t ready to call it quits just yet. He leapt into the ring and stood before them, arms crossed. Kei was exhausted, but if he needed to go through one more opponent, he was willing to go that extra mile to protect his new friend.

“Stuff!” the small plush bear exclaimed. There was a sudden fire in his eyes as he stepped in front of Kei and stared Pancham right in the eye. Enough was enough, and Stufful wouldn’t allow himself to be bullied any more. Kei had been protecting him all this time, but now it would be his turn to fight in Kei’s place. Stufful glanced back at Kei, Mio, and Patches and smiled, appreciative of everything they did to boost his confidence. Now, he would be willing to listen to them for support as he prepared to take on the angry Pancham.
[You are now in control of the lv.14 male Stufful with the ability Fluffy for the duration of this fight.]

Things were back to going against the plan. Reaper had prevented Spartacus from slowing down Gladius. Things got even worse though, Spartacus was down, but thankfully Reaper had gone down with him. That left both him and Samuel with 2 Pokemon each, however Odysseus was barely clinging on. With the end in sight, Jayson was unsure whether the Magneton would be able to make it to the finish, but hopefully he could hold on just long enough. With Odachi at close range and planning on a spread attack, Jayson needed to put a stop to her. The flower mantis had amassed a handful of boosts thanks to her Contrary ability, proving to be quite the secret powerhouse.

"Odysseus hang in there", he shouted, hoping to spur the Electric type on. "You need to wrap Odachi up with a Thunder Wave, then get over there and scramble Gladius with a Supersonic!" It was all he could think of, if the Magneton could hang on long enough, they might just manage to finish cutting before the Kabutops did. The fossil was a far superior cutter to Atalanta, despite the Dartrix's best efforts. Jayson couldn't help but feel himself swell with doubt, unsure whether they could pull this off without the help of Spartacus. Regardless, they needed to try and pull it off, perhaps there was still a glimmer of hope?

"Finish the log Atalanta! Air Cutter then Leaf Blade one last time!" Jayson crossed his fingers behind his back, unsure whether they could still win.

Kei the Charmander evolved into Charmeleon!

“K-Kei!?!” Patches was blinking over and over again as she was trying to process what had just happened. “Pika Pikachu!” Mio yelled an enthusiastic congratulations at Kei, not only had he won, but he was now quite a bit different and stronger than ever before. At this point, Patches had run up to the side of the ring in order to get a better look at the very changed Kei. “Whoooaaaaa!!!! Kei you’re so much more grown up!!” Patches’ mouth is hanging wide open with a big grin, practically drooling from the excitement of it all. “This has been one of the best days EVER!”

Kei, who was still quite out of breath, was momentarily confused by his trainer’s reaction but it was quickly forgotten when the Stufful ran up and gave him a big hug which he gladly returned. Hugs were one of his favorite things after all and to see Stufful so happy made all of this worth it. Then, it suddenly dawned on him that he was viewing the world from an ever so slightly higher height than he was before. That was also when he finally realized that his arms were much longer, making it much easier to hug than it had ever been. “Meleon!?” Kei was surprised, even his voice was significantly different and made him jump even though this was the second time he was hearing it. He was full of so much adrenaline that he hadn’t even noticed his body take on such a massive change but it seems to have made his trainer and his friends pretty happy so he was pretty happy about it too. Plus, this time, he actually managed to take down his opponent and this thing was finally going to be over.

But of course, that was short lived, as usual. Once the Pancham entered the ring, Kei knew what he had to do and began to take a step forward but then he was interrupted by the Stufful he was fighting so hard for. It looks like this has to be a fight that the Stufful finishes and Kei understands this immediately. He pats the Stufful on the head to give him some encouragement and then promptly exits the ring.

“Oh look, you two! It’s our friend from earlier!” Patches was excited to see the Pancham return, still oblivious to the fact that it was bullying the Stufful before. “Char charrr!!” Kei pulls at Patches’ bag to get her attention and points toward Stufful to remind her that they are on Stufful’s side. “I know, Kei! You’ve really taken a liking to Stufful so I’ll help you cheer him on!” She reaches into her bag and pulls out a handful of confetti and holds it in one hand while she walks around to the bell that Timburr was hitting earlier. “I hope this is alright, I’ve always wanted to do this ever since I saw the other Pokemon doing it! And he’s kinda not here right now so… Begin!” She whips her bag around and smacks the bell with it then throws the confetti into the ring, in what she hopes will signify the beginning of the match.

Mio, of course, face palms since this is Stufful’s first time experiencing Patches’ confetti ambush. Kei on the other hand, thought it was the perfect way to kick things off since he’s similar to his trainer in some ways. Stufful, wanting to take a moment to learn the Pancham’s strategy, decides to begin by giving the Pancham some cute Baby-Doll Eyes and then Biding his time as he focus on thinking up a way to take down his opponent.

"Slooooow," Dudley said, his vacant smile widening somewhat as the teenager thanked him. Kenny would have smiled as well, were it possible for a spiral Shellder stuck on a Slowbro's tail to visibly smile.

However, those two would have been the only ones smiling at that moment. Well, them and Aipom, anyway. Because aforementioned Aipom very quickly proved to be no slouch in terms of battling. Gavin facepalmed as Aipom's Sand Attack and deft dodging skills got Miror to accidentally attack the Rattata. "Marac?!" Miror exclaimed as he very quickly realized what he'd done, but no amount of hasty apologizing or explaining was going to calm that Rattata down, so instead he focused on trying to Absorb some of Aipom's energy away. This time, he was much more successful, and didn't even let Aipom's Astonish stop his Secret Power. Unfortunately, Aipom sidestepped the Secret Power with infuriating ease, and Kricketune was hit instead. And considering the nature of their battlefield, the attack got Kricketune to fall asleep on the spot.

Gavin was livid at the moment, between the almost comical epic fail that this round has been, the Aipom's uncontrollable laughter, and the teenager most unhelpfully pointing out how bad he was at helping out. Luckily, Gavin had the presence of mind to take a few deep breaths, because in that time, the teenager seemed to reconsider her words, and before Gavin had the chance to snap and cuss her out, she apologized for what she said, explaining that she was just done with all this drama, and introducing herself as Ringo. "...Gavin," Gavin responded, introducing himself in response. "Gavin Golurkson. And right now, I've just about had it with this drama as well."

Gavin racked his brain. That Aipom was so fast, so agile, it would surely continue to outmaneuver Miror. And it definitely outmaneuvered Dudley, for sure. How the fuck do I beat this thing? Gavin thought to himself. Aipom's faster than anything I have, how do I turn this around- wait a second, that's it! Gavin's eyes widened as he realized the solution. It wasn't all too surprising that it hadn't occurred to him sooner- he wasn't completely used to how many attacks Dudley knew just yet, after all. Man, could Keith Masters train Pokémon, or what?

"Dudley! Trick Room!" Gavin ordered. "Then it's your turn to fight Aipom! Use Flamethrower, then blast it with Psychic! Miror," he added, now addressing his oldest friend. "Try and clear that sand from your eyes while Dudley's fighting Aipom, yeah? Come here, lemme try and help with that," he added.

"Rrractus," Miror replied gratefully, starting to make his way over to where he'd heard Gavin's voice come from, while Dudley (prodded by much impatient biting from Kenny) prepared to fight.
