Phantump Cinccino Royale, featuring the Phantump Thieves of Hearts - DAY PHASE BEGINS

In casinos all over the world, stocks of prize Pokemon and items are vanishing without a trace. Game currencies – coins, vouchers, tickets, points – are universally wiping with no explanation. Footage from security cameras and eyewitness reports have corroborated this strange story – items and Pokemon literally disappearing before one's eyes, regardless of the level of security or number of witnesses present. Systems glitching and showing flat balances out of the blue. The cost of replenishing the missing items and Pokemon is unrecoverable for many of these establishments. Already, millions of Pokedollars have gone into solving this mystery from around the world, only for the case to remain unsolved – though recently, a glimmer of hope has shimmered through this dim situation, from an unlikely source.

When a group of Pokemon was spirited away last month from the Goldenrod Prize Corner, a tiny Mime Jr., only recently taken from the hatchery to the Corner, somehow managed to remain behind. Investigative psychic types who interviewed the little Pokemon after the event were able to relay a vision the baby had to their trainers – the vision of a lobby the likes of which no one had ever seen, in terms of opulence and design. Its description matched that of no known building on record. A number of people involved with the case began questioning the veracity and accuracy of the baby Pokemon's testimony. For weeks, the investigation went cold... that is, until the reports came in about the establishment known as Jirachi's Casino.

On the surface of it, one would think that Jirachi's would be a prime target for thieves of all kinds – abandoned for months in the shifting of power and sitting in the very center of the anarchy-ridden main city, no greater target for pilfering valuables could have existed. Even when the new Elite settled in, the place remained untouched for a time – most trainers anticipated that when the people of Fizzby finally got around to addressing their Casino, its valuables would be utterly ransacked – if not from within, then from crime syndicates in the surrounding areas.

Those native to the area have described the Casino in its present state as “unrecognizable”. Expanded and refurbished seemingly overnight and inexplicably without notice, the massive, overly elaborate facility may not be familiar to its old patrons, but the moment that pictures of the lobby began circulating, those who had interviewed the precocious little Mime Jr., it was recognized immediately as the one in his vision. The little mime, now known as Feste, is now actively involved in the psychic investigation of Jirachi's Casino and its secrets.

In the following days, law enforcement from around the world have attempted to strongarm their way into the Casino with sheer power and numbers to take back what's theirs – but whatever force has taken residence within the building has managed, successfully, to repel them all. Though none have actually seen it, the force of its power – which seems to emanate from the very walls and floors at the first sign of signifcant threat – has caused significant damage to massive teams of well-trained Pokemon. Of course, it is not in the spirit of Fizzby to give up – and if the rumors are to be believed, trainers all over the area have begun devising their own alternatives to the brute force typical of law enforcement. Indeed, if one is to win against this unknown menace, they reason, one must go outside the law to achieve the goal. We will take back what's ours, and that which belongs to other nations. We will recover the stolen goods by fighting fire with fire – by stealing back that which was stolen from us.

That's right, my friends – we are breaking into Jirachi's Casino! But first, like any good thieves, we need to get an idea of what we're getting ourselves into. During the daylight hours, we will pose as happy Casino-goers, all while gathering information (and goodies, provided we don't get caught) for the upcoming infiltration at night.

THE DAY PHASE will begin now and last until August 21, 2017 at 11:59 PM GMT – all infiltrators are expected to leave the Casino at that time to reconvene for the EVENING PHASE.

The Day Phase is is the plainclothes information gathering phase. Members have a maximum of ONE Pokemon with them to help them search the area for entrances, exits, areas of interest, clues, secret passages, etc. This may be the same Pokemon that will assist in the infiltration during the evening/night phases, or a different one, but a Pokemon who participates in the Day Phase investigation may have a slight advantage having been exposed to the area already. Areas where rare Pokemon are kept can be identified for the infiltration. Items can be stolen in this phase, but getting caught will have consequences. It is suggested during this phase that everyone SPREADS OUT to explore – after all, what good is trying to get a feel for all the Casino has to offer if everyone goes to one area?

So, without further ado -

Let's all go to the lobby! Let's all go to the lobby! Let's all go to the lobbyyyy – to steal ourselves some treats.

This is the main entrance to the Casino – as such, it is substantially guarded and monitored. Entering requires passing through two thick steel double doors, the first of which bears scars of previous attempts by law enforcement groups at breaking and entering. The amount of force required to break through them is probably beyond the capabilities of one Pokemon, or even a team of six. Since everyone in the daylight hours is posing as a trainer in search of a good time and quick riches, however, the doors will open for you... for now.

Once inside, entrants are greeted by a pair of guards on either side of the entryway - an Aegislash on the left, and a Metagross on the right. They wear little guard hats atop their heads with a Jirachi on them to indicate their positions. The Metagross in particular regards everyone with suspicion, but merely keeps an eye on the crowd.

Behind Aegislash are some more practical features of the lobby, such as a check-in counter/help desk, restrooms and a small souvenir shop. There is also an ELEVATOR near the restrooms. Behind Metagross are some plush couches for patrons to sit and relax, as well as the STAIRWAYS leading UPSTAIRS and DOWNSTAIRS. Two more guard Pokemon – an Arcanine sitting calmly by the help desk, and a Machamp in a Jirachi's Casino leather jacket (with four arm holes, of course) wandering about – make four in total.

In the center of the lobby is a massive fountain, lit by natural light from a star-shaped window above. The fountain depicts Jirachi, water spewing forth from his third eye, as statues of various Pokemon swim and play happily in the pool of water below. Behind this statue, one can continue STRAIGHT AHEAD to explore the rest of this floor. If the mood strikes you, of course, you could always turn around and go back OUTSIDE.

There are seven visible security cameras around the room – two point at the front door, one points at the check-out counter, one points at the fountain's back side, one points at the stairwell and one points at the entrance to the elevator.

Where will you explore first?

Thievery was right up Austin's ally. People get use to doing unsavory things when they have to survive, and well natural sticky fingers just help in that manner. The teen gave a nod to the two guards at the door, a Metagross and an Aegislash. He looked over the steel doors as he walked in, curious at the various damages that were made. Steels doors with steel types at the entrance afterwards. it was like they were asking for a group of arsonists to burn the place down. He Ninetales next to him just whipped its tails on the ground, taking in the atmosphere as much as he was. When he first heard of the plan to break into Jirachi's Casino, it was none other than his own Ninetales that felt like the perfect partner. The fox was a good con artist, that was for certain. So it made perfect sense to bring him along.

He nodded at the Arcanine at the desk, and ignored the Machamp making rounds. He's been here a few times, so it wouldn't seem odd from him to come and take a hand at the slots once again. He scanned the lobby, and quickly discerned the locations of the security cameras. Maybe a strong enough electric type could shock the system off? It was a wishful dream, but one none the less. he saw Nick eyeing the souvenir shop and quickly shoo'd him away. There was a time and place for everything... Now wasn't the time. Looking at the stairwell, he decided to go downstairs. Going from the ground up seemed like the best decision... Though what things of use could be found down there? Hopefully the power supply room. Whatever he had 'games' to play. With a flick of the risk, the teen, he beckoned his Ninetales to go downstairs.

Keith felt cheated and lied to. And why wouldn't he? After all, the entire purpose of the Coin Exchange was to provide a safe place to store one's coins, so one's Coin Case wasn't constantly unbelievably heavy. Over the years, Keith had come to depend on the Coin Exchange to keep his coins safe, even- no, especially- during periods of uncertainty and unrest. So one could very easily imagine how cheated he felt when he called the Coin Exchange one morning. It had been merely to inquire as to when the Coins for Prizes store might reopen, and ended up with Keith arguing with a Coin Exchange employee, insisting he had almost seventy thousand coins in his account, while said employee insisted he currently had zip, zero, zilch.

Now, Keith was usually one to stay on the right side of the law. He was a good, upstanding Trainer with good morals, but on the other hand, it wasn't as though he couldn't see when taking matters into one's own hands was the preferable option. He'd raised two Banette, both of whom he'd encouraged to pursue and deal with the sources of their respective grudges. He absolutely never ratted out anyone he cared about to the police, provided they had a good reason for doing whatever they might have done. And right here and now, Keith saw this opportunity before him, not as a heist in the making, but as an opportunity, an opportunity to seek the compensation the Coin Exchange bastards refused to provide.

Keith gave a low, impressed whistle as he entered Jirachi's Casino. He'd frequented the place many times, making a Beedrilline for the Roulette tables each and every time, and chuckling and shaking his head at the poor fools trying their luck (and wasting their coins) at the Starter Slots- years ago it became common knowledge that the Roulette had better odds, and it was through that very Roulette Keith had managed to amass his small coin fortune. The small coin fortune that no longer existed. But yes- as many times as he'd frequented the Casino in the past, it looked grander and more impressive now than it had ever looked. Keith exchanged looks with the Pokémon accompanying him, awaiting said companion's opinion.

"Pawn, Pawniard," Ginny nodded in response, likewise admiring her surroundings, though by no means letting her guard down. Meowth, upon learning of this plan, immediately declared his wanting nothing to do with it. Ginny, on the other hand, openly volunteered to accompany her Trainer. The Pawniard quite frequently operated outside the law herself, often resorting to sneaky and underhanded tactics, both in battle and in her perpetual campaign to keep Keith safe from all manner of horrors, both real and imagined. That she could not protect Keith's coin balance from whatever unknown culprit was at work here irked her, and so she readily volunteered to help him seek his compensation.

Keith nodded back. "Yeah, they've really cleaned this place up," he remarked. He had to be careful, had to watch what he said. Had to keep looking natural. Didn't want to arouse suspicion in the guard Pokémon or the casino employees. As far as they were to be aware, this was just a Pokémon Trainer and his Pawniard, here in hopes of winning big, and so that's just what they acted like, nodding hello to the guard Pokémon, looking relaxed, happy, and ready to gamble. And so they were ready to gamble, just not in a way this casino was likely to endorse. "So, Ginny... lots to do around here, yeah?" he said, once more choosing his words carefully. "I don't know what to do first, what do you suggest?"

The true meaning of the question was not lost on Ginny. The Pawniard glanced warily around, eyeing up the guard Pokémon, shooting quick, furtive glances at the security cameras, getting a feel for her surroundings. And mentally taking notes, for that matter- if she could defend Keith's Secret Base half as well as this place was defended! Her first thought was going downstairs, but she could see someone else with their Ninetales already heading that way- Ginny knew that she and Keith were not alone in this endeavor, that many Trainers demanded compensation for their lost coinage. And she also knew that if too many people started congregating in the same place, they'd start to arouse suspicion. Exactly what they neither wanted nor needed. And so, as casually as she could, the Pawniard started leading the way upstairs, with Keith, acting just as casually, following her.

Sypher felt somewhat frustrated with himself as he had yet again volunteered for undercover work. Hopefully it would go better this time and hopefully he wouldn't have to deal with some mafia force for a third time. The first time had ended up with a rather gruesome blood bath and the second had everyone hating him because he kept getting drunk and spouting gibberish. But it was no time for him to be kicking himself as practice was the only way to better himself.

It was the first time he had been in a Casino and he was quite impressed with the aesthetics. "Kinda nice isn't it Jill?" He looked over his shoulder to see that Jill, who had been fluttering alongside him had landed to take awe at the Metagross guarding the entrance. He scurried over to retrieve her. "Sorry about her, she act without thinking whenever she see's a Pokémon species she has meet before." he assured the guard, "She won't be any trouble." As he walked towards the elevator he patted her on the head and reminded her not to wander off. "Now, an another day, another elevator, hopefully not the same shit..." he mused thinking back to Bedlam Ridge.

As he entered he pressed the button to stop the lift between floors. He reached towards the roof, lifting Jill up find a latch. "If one is up there, go through and infiltrate the HVAC system. Have a look around and see if you can overhear any guards. I'll be back in 45 minutes or so. So wait at the top of the shaft when you return and I'll whistle sharply thrice when I come back for you."

It was happening, at last. A coordinated strike to uncover the truth behind the Jirachi Casino's Scandal - an operation bordering on illegal, but with intentions noble enough as to merit the attention of Sai Hajimoto, Tatakami Monk from the Region of Saigo.

I came to this land to grow stronger, but I cannot turn a blind eye to injustice. Unskilled as I am, I cannot allow myself not to contribute - the search for truth is one of the noblest acts a human can commit to. Even if other rules must be... temporarily forgotten.

He had offered to help, fully aware of his limitations, and conscious of his profound distaste for places of vice such as casinos. Maintaining composure, let alone feigning interest, went against every fiber of his being, and would be a test in of itself.

Money, fame, influence... Plagues, all of them. But... people were robbed. They had accrued their own wealth, regardless of how they'd done it, and they've been stolen. This, I cannot stand by.

He stood in front of the main gate, beyond which the wretched hall of gamble and addiction spread. One could have thought his spirit so restless, even his own shadow twisted and turned - when in reality, it was occupied by another, a second soul hiding in the dark side of the righteous man.

"Shiou," whispered Sai, "let's get started."

The response was an almost imperceptible chuckle by the Gastly, the restless one who'd finally found a home by the monk's side. Unbeknownst to Sai, Shiou had previously been owned and raised by Marion Ette of the Elite Three, which made him all the more special among his fellow Ghost-Type brethren. But this, Shiou felt, Sai did not need to know, at least not yet.

After a brief moment to steel his resolve, the monk finally passed through the front door, only to be greeted by two guards - an Aegislash and a Metagross - who eyed the curiously-dressed man with understandable doubt.

"I'm here to gamble," said Sai, with a tone of voice much calmer than he'd have expected himself capable of. "I've had enough of a life of poverty - I'm craving some of the finer things in life."

Ugh, why do I feel the need to justify myself to begin with?...

However, the explanation must have sounded humorous enough to the guards that they let him pass without further questions. Well, that was one issue out of the way - though it jhad to be said, he'd expected more of the assumed Psychic capabilities of Metagross in particular, who was said to be proficient in that area. It should have spotted the lie a mile away, but perhaps it was against Casino policy to read minds? Somehow, that felt... counterproductive.

The inside of the building was every bit as decadent and luxurious as he'd anticipated, with a thousand different venues to indulge in the addiction of coin. Played right, there were veritable fortunes to be made here, but Sai never abandoned one of his master's very first teachings.

Sage Samanosuke... father... He always told me to "abandon all worldly desires". And I often say the same to Jin as well; what kind of Tatakami monk would I be if I were to forsake that principle now? I had no fortune to lose in the first place. I came here selflessly; I must not stray from that path now.

He knew he hadn't come alone, though he was unacquainted with the other... thieves. Because that's what they were playing, regardless of how they painted it. They were advised to spread out, and already the observant Sai could spot plans going into motion - people trying to act casually, moving towards the elevator, upstairs and so on. He would do the same, then, though he was fated for another route.

Shiou prefers the dark. Very well...

He turned to the staircase and smiled. DOWNSTAIRS he would go, in the first phase of this investigation, hoping that his ghost's abilities to turn invisible and phase through walls would prove helpful.

They'll never see it coming.

He looked at the garish statue with an air of intense disdain.

This place always unsettled him, what with the flagrant promotion of gambling, the flaunting of wealth everywhere the eye can see, and speaking of eyes, they were everywhere. It was unsettling, that an establishment of such opulence could possess security tighter than a prison, and judging by the look the soulless machine wearing that ridiculous hat gave him, much of that security was speciesist.

Of course, not that it would stop Fragarath from being scornful regarding the situation. Having ears everywhere had its perks, and the Honchkrow, on learning of the unusual activity within Jirachi's Casino, a place built and run during the dark era of the old guard, its secrets defended zealously within, he of course had to have a wing in the investigations. Heck, the avian had went so far as blackmail to ensure his trainer, Alex, was on board with the plan he had for the joint. It had stood for far too long, and the link between it and the old coins for prizes joint, something he knew very well had links to criminal groups, meant that the time to stand idly by had long since gone.

Alex moved a little, the Honchkrow on shoulder giving the air of disdain while he was to play the part of the fool. He had over half a million of the coins, soon to be discontinued, and he'd be damned if he wasn't going to let them rot in a vault somewhere. Fortunate then his role in the bird's play, for he was in as a gamer, a high roller of sorts, to keep the focus on the machinery while the sharp eyed insomniac crow kept a vigilant scan for anything suspicious. Of course, being a Honchkrow had its perks, and the species were well known for their thieving prowess, but for now the destination and objective was simple: Go straight past this hideous representation of Halley, and take a look around for potential security loopholes to take note of.

He'd be damned if this wasn't going to be the heist of the year, if not century.

Jeri didn't fancy himself much of a thief. Nothing about him suggested he could contribute much to a raid of this massive, mysterious casino. But he heard some chatter about some sort of upcoming break-in to free the ill-gotten goods that had been stashed within. Though he didn't really plan to be an active participant, his thirst for adventure and general curiosity drew him to the casino regardless. After all, even if he wasn't particularly well-suited to this kind of operation, his longtime partner and friend Koi was rather perfect for it.

He deliberately chose a subdued outfit, wearing a dark colored hoodie and dark jeans over his normal clothes, trying to look nondescript but not particularly suspicious. He figured there would be a number of people drawn by the rumors of a supposed operation, so he tried his best to not draw attention, even taking precautions to have Koi tail him while camouflaged instead of entering the Casino with his Pokémon by his side.

The lobby was large and garish, filled with numerous trainers and Pokémon, but still appearing to be expansive in spite of that. He suspected a number of the trainers milling about were probably here for largely the same reason he was, and he figured maintaining a low profile wouldn't be terribly difficult. With his hood pulled over his head just far enough to obscure his face from the overhead cameras without hiding it from those on the ground level, he walked nonchalantly past the steely guards and made a beeline for the facilities to the Aegislash's back. Koi, using his climbing skills, crept behind Metagross, and being careful to spend as little time against surfaces that constrast with his red stripe, slinks after his trainer, keeping a few feet between them at all times. For the time being, Jeri would keep a low profile and watch as the first phase unfolded. He figured he would just stick to the lobby for now, examining the stock at the gift shop before moving onto the restrooms, keeping an eye out for any vents or similar access points in case he felt like coming back after dark...

The Casino.

Heather had been reasonably wary of coming here, in fact, this would be her first time. She had wanted to buy an Eevee for herself, a Jolteon would be a fine teammate, but the fact that back in the day, this was the one way to really get coins and that the luck reeked of impurities understandably turned her off from ever utilizing the place. But when she was notified that her (relatively) humble coin balance of about 5000 was gone without a trace, she did the research, and all the trails led here, and thus, many Trainers were here to plan the break in of a lifetime. Heather wasn't here for Pokémon, really, though rumor had it many planned to claim one or more. Heather was here more to participate in the coming exposé, though perhaps some luxuriant supplies would be useful enough to her and her team. Perhaps some of those nice-looking Electric or Cyber Balls would do. But enough about that.

Heather strode through the doors seemingly alone, but a Misdreavus soon faded into view beside her. The Screech Pokémon couldn't do much in combat, not that Heather knew this, but if there was something he could do, it was observe, detect, and report, all while going at least mostly undetected. He was practically a perfect recon partner, but alas, he had to remain visible as the pair walked in, as the Aegislash and Metagross at the doors would surely detect him and raise an alarm, at least, so Magus said. Either way, where would any prize items be? Likely on display for all to see, perhaps on this floor. Heather decided to go straight on through. She recognized a man with an unfamiliar Honchkrow-hadn't he helped take on Stewie? Heather decided to steer clear-if he was here to help scout the heist, he had his own turf to keep well in hand, if not, best not arouse his suspicions.

"Alright, Magus. We should be off camera by this point, find a place to hide and do your part, I'll see what else I can find that needs attention." she whispered to the Ghost Type, who wordlessly nodded and hovered away to do his business, melting away into the spiritual plane on his first opportunity, now concealed to most ordinary eyes.

Lil' Bluey

It was a day like any other.

...Actually, scratch that. It was a dark and stormy night. Rain was pourin' down slick from the heavens like Skitty and Rockruff, rappin' at the windows and washin' away all the filth and grime of the New Fizz City streets. The booming concrete burg had been buffed fresh after all the turmoil of the town's recent coup d'état had settled, but it was like slappin' on a coat o' cheap paint onto an old broken toy. No amount of hasty, haphazard renovation could hide the revolting scars of revolution right after the fact. On the surface it shone as a pinnacle of a metropolis to attract tourists, but deep in its underground veins still ran the scum of society, takin' advantage of the upheaval to lie, steal, and cheat citizens out of their hard-earned winnings over the years. Every crime syndicate in the state was vyin' for top dog position in the shadows, tryin' to take control for themselves - like packs of power-hungry Mightyena scrappin' for a bone. Meanwhile the government had its hands full jus' tryin' to get back on its feet. Like a poor man who had hit rock bottom, without a penny or shred o' dignity to his name, down on his luck after losin' all his life's savings, it would take ages to fully rebuild the region to its former glory. No one said overthrowin' authority would be an easy process.

One such example of the seedier side of the city was Nightlife Row - aptly named for the street that never sleeps. It was near here that Detective Gumpy set up his makeshift office, in one of the back alleys' broken down, abandoned buildings where riots had taken place, ravishing the rooms previously for rent like illicit lovers in a sleazy hotel. Despite the crummy atmosphere, there was a crisp and cool sleekness to its tidied-up interior compared to its ramshackle front, marked only by a lopsided sign reading "Detective Gumpy - Private Eye for Hire".

Detective Gumpy sat at his desk, waiting idly for a case to come by. It had been a quiet evening, and he was just about to crack open a cup of instant noodles when she walked in.

She was all silver and swagger, shiverin' slightly from the chill despite being covered head to toe in exquisite furs, the likes of which he never did lay eyes upon before. She shook the rain off her mane, squeezing drops from the snowy scarf she had wrapped round like her neck like a feather boa. Serpent tempting Eve, with a fleece so fine it launched a fleet of thousand.

The dame gazed up at him, flashin' worrisome eyes that spelled trouble. Bad news was written all over her like a front page headline. He set aside his steaming brand and drew up his pipe instead, blowing bubbles towards the low ceiling fan at it hummed overhead, whipping its propellors with a steady background rhythm as she spoke.

"Please, Mistah, you gotta help me. It's mah trainer - her money - it all went missin'. We had a whole fortune kept locked tight in a safe at the Coin Exchange, but one night it all just up and vanished, down to the last dime. There ain't no witnesses or camera reports, and so the police won't do nothin'. Yer my last hope." She sniffed, dabbing at her ducts with the fluffy end of her train. "We're flat-broke now, but I promise I can pay ya handsome, once we get the money back."

He took a long drawl on his pipe, looking at the lass with pity. Such a sweet young thing, she didn't deserve to have her wallet gouged when it was already empty as a Swalot's stomache after using SPIT UP, without any guarantee of getting her riches rightfully returned. He patted her shoulder in sympathy, promising that as his first case ever, this one would be on the house. He was here to combat crime after all in lieu of the bumbling law enforcement, and the mystery in itself was what fueled his spirit. He would get to the bottom of this and exact justice, one way or another.

...

As it turned out, this wasn't just a solitary case of baffling bank robbery right under the guards' noses. Over the next few weeks, there was a string of thefts and mysterious kidnappings, computer system glitches displaying zero balances worldwide. One target was able to escape a mass hijacking from the Goldrenrod Prize Corner though: a newly hatched Mime Jr. The detective's next step then was to interview the sole key witness.

"Feste", as he was called, was a fidgety fellow. Squealed like a baby to investigators (which, seein' as he was one, made a good lick of sense). No one believed his story, about his pals being spirited away out of the blue, and a mental image of lobby no one had heard of in terms of design. Yet somethin' told Gumpy that the kid wasn't lyin'. Mimes don't make up strange tales out o' nothin'. (...Actually, scratch that from the record too.)

Following on the few leads he'd gathered, Detective Gumpy tried to track down the source of the cryptic vision, but no site seemed to match. The trail had gone cold. ...That is, until rumors about Jirachi's Casino's revival began to spread.

Jirachi's had always been the swankiest hangout for high rollers to come and spend their cash, frivolously frittering away time and finances in hopes of striking it big. Since the rebellion though, it had sat sad and unused for the longest time, like a forgotten plate of leftovers in the back of the fridge. Most assumed all its spoils would've been ransacked and stolen by now, yet here it was, inexplicably expanded and refurbished, once again opening its doors to the public. Its overwhelming opulence was only made more suspicious by the fact its lobby's appearance was seemingly identical to the one lil' Feste had described, which Gumpy had immediately recognized upon reading the morning paper (and subsequently spewed coffee all over the carpet rug).

Given the high level of security surrounding the location (and failed attempts of the police force to strongarm their way in), it looked like making more progress with the investigation was going to require some undercover work. There was something shady going on with the establishment all right, and he was determined to find out just what made this whole operation stink of Stunfisk...

-

"You okay, Gumpy? You've been acting kinda weird..."

Jess stared at the Swalot shuffling beside her, who was glancing shiftily about from behind the fake moustache he was wearing, in addition to drawing his cape and trenchcoat close and deerstalker hat low in an effort to disguise his features. Especially as they passed by a number of surveillance cameras and burly-looking sentry Pokémon on patrol or posted at their door stations. She wasn't sure why he insisted on coming along with her today, but it seemed like he had some important mission in mind, so she didn't refuse.

As for herself, she didn't really have a set purpose for coming here. Although she had made use of the gambling facilities in the past, she hadn't set foot near a roulette for so long that it lost its luster. (Although she did kinda miss the Lucky Draw.) After blowing most of her winnings on prizes for other people, she'd barely even bothered to check the paltry amount remaining since then.

As such, she was merely present as a sightseer, curious as to how yet another landmark in her memory had changed. It seemed she wasn't the only one, as a particularly huge crowd was gathering for the grand reopening. ...Although, it might've been her imagination, but they all seemed to share that same sneaky aura, like there was some kind of private scandal going on (or rather, one they were endeavoring to expose). She scratched her head, but decided it best not to stick her nose into it. Shrugging, she turned to her Swalot to let him lead the way.

"Anywhere you want to go?"

Gumpy deliberated for a bit, before heading towards, of all places, the restrooms. His goal was simple: Snoop around, and collect as much evidence as he could - and to do that he had to check every nook and cranny. Plus, in puzzle adventure games you could usually find some important clue surprisingly hidden in a bathroom, like a message written on the mirror or something. Not to mention there likely wouldn't be any cameras in there.

...Also that burrito he had for lunch was kinda bothering him.

Alice Hope had by now adapted to the Pokemon world for the most part. She had her own place in the Cloud Garden (and she was proud of earning that little spot, for sure), she had more friends now than when she had arrived, knew where to get her medication and all the other good and mundane stuff. As it was, while gunning for her own goals, Alice had consciously aligned herself to the side of heroism in big and small-- until now.

Honestly, maybe it wouldn't have surprised anyone who knew the wannabe idol well enough. If she had a special power? Invisibility, or anything that would've allowed her to steal, troll and the like. If jail hadn't been such a deterrent, the way some people bullied her probably would have led to dead bodies. In a magical world where all was possible, why not rob a casino? With a gang of questionable peeps? Well, wynaut?

The young woman rocked up, a notable swagger to her walk. Every click of designer heels radiated confidence, sweet ringlets fluttering with the breeze of the building's open doors. Whoever she was, to those who didn't know of her growing celebrity, she at least looked like she could be famous. Painted, sparkling, manicured fingers slipped fancy shades from a face of make-up-- done so that blemishes were rid of, eyelashes were long and lips popped and nothing much more – and replaced them with proper glasses.

“Oh my gosh, those hats are so cute!” Alice declared, honey oozing from a posh, but indistinct, accent. The trainer pulled her Pokegear from her designer bag to snap photos of the guards and their adorable little hats. Fitting the amped up image the tourist was portraying, a Snubbull pottered after the young woman, pink fur complimenting the outfit of choice: a little off-shoulder dress, one that started just above a pushed up bust and cut off well before the knee; patterned in pink and white floral. It was comfortable, but a little tight. Alice loved attention, and even in the midst of investigation, she felt like getting it the right way would aid her cause-- especially if it threw off the idea that she would be one of the criminals returning once the day was done.

“Come on, Sammi, let's go and win some big money and see what else is up!” Alice prompted the canine, and with that, she was through the foyer and into the main hall. It was perfectly exquisite, and it was almost a shame that she had come to fuck shit up. Alice had never been in a casino before, from what she could remember (which was spotty). Samantha stuck close, but all senses were peeled like any good doggy's would be. The hours would fly by, and they needed as much intel as possible before the heist.

Bill couldn't believe what he was hearing. One of the last things, the absolute last things that he had to his name after losing most of his Pokemon and his items was about to be taken away, his Casino coins that he had saved up over the years. Was this yet another trick created by the Ocean of Mystery? He didn't know, but he was aware of one thing, apparently the very Casino that he took his time gambling at was the crux of it all. He had made plenty of fortunes here, mostly when they had the lottery tickets that gave out insane amounts of prizes, but as time went on, winnings had dwindled down to a mere paltry.

His Blastoise-turned-Squirtle, Silver, stayed by his side for this. The duo had been on many many adventures before, and breaking into places wasn't exactly out of the realm of what Bill has done before. This would be the first time that he would be able to scout ahead as well as it being in a modern building. He ended up walking casually through the casino. It was a nice change of pace from the usual "this area is forbidden" type deal, though the security cameras would prove to be an issue, especially with how they all point at the only obvious entry point. He thought about going outside, but without a Flying type partner to help scout, he decided to leave it. Instead, he would try to find another-less guarded entrance that may serve as more unexpected than just the front door.

Upon thinking about what to do about scouting out, he decided that maybe tackling the Upstairs at the stairway would be the best bet, after all, if there was gonna be any place to start, the second floor would yield the best benefits, he felt. A place that was close to the entrance, but far enough away that it might not attract too much attention.

"Okay, Silver, let's try up here first, maybe there's some new machines that'll give us the jackpot we need."

"Squirtle" the water-type said without missing a beat. He was excited to do any new adventures and this one would prove to be an interesting one to say the least. Both of them hoped that they didn't raise any suspicion with the two guards. Had this been a few months ago, they probably could take them on, but now with a very weak party, not so much.

Jirachi's Casino. Finally she got to see it with her own two eyes, she had heard it was vastly different from the old casino but... she had never actually gotten to see it in it's glory days. However, she wasn't exactly here to gamble --- quite the contrary actually, she was here to investigate the scandal. Although, at this point, she wasn't exactly sure it was even a scandal. Sure, loads of people's vouchers and hard earned coins were missing without a trace, and she imagined many people were particularly upset about it. But it didn't effect her personally, so why did she care exactly? Well that answer was simple:

She was simply here for the thrill.

Being bound to her home for so long due to her ailement, she hadn't actually seen a whole lot of the world. Now, she considered herself a morally good person. She would never kill, maim, or otherwise harm another living creature --- and she always attempted to do things with absolutely pure intentions. But the simple thought of actually breaking into a large establishment such as this, well, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. It wasn't like she could actually ever commit anything like this on her own, she wasn't exactly able-bodied enough to make that quick and effortless getaway that thieves, specifically those of the Phantom variety, were known for. Elka chuckled to herself at the thought, how helpful would she even be in this heist? Truth be told, she thought herself to be more of a liability at this point than anything, she was probably going to be that poor bastard that got caught in the getaway.

She glanced down at the leash in her hands. It might have been a better idea to actually bring Pascal along because he was actually trained for this sort of thing... but Morgana seemed like he was itching to get something done. He moved uncomfortably under the harness which was slightly too small for the mid-sized cat Pokemon. It was pretty obvious to the trained eye that he wasn't actually Elka's trained service Pokemon, but to the common observer, they would be none the wiser. The Torracat mewled unhappily, glancing up at his trainer. How did Pascal tolerate this awful harness? It made him feel itchy all over, he almost felt a new sort of respect for the little Eevee. Elka bent over slightly, petting the black and orange cat.

"Sorry Morgana... I know I should've brought Pascal for this. But you seem to need some more adventuring under your belt. Besides, I'm sure you're familiar with the term 'cat-burglar'." She chuckled at herself, causing the Torracat to roll his eyes. This was going to be a long day. Morgana knew that Elka stuck out like a sore thumb, even in the day time. The poor girl had that obnoxiously bright hair, and the mixes of pinks in her outfit certainly didn't help either. Not to mention the crutches, they would be a dead giveaway, even when they returned in disguises for the night.

The lobby was expansive, but Elka set her sights on something else. She knew that the casino was probably being well investigated at this point, but what about the outside? It was actually even more ideal for Elka, considering her phobia of large crowds and her particular lack of proper social skills. She glanced around, keeping an eye out for the cameras as she briskly limped back outside of the door. Perhaps she could find a proper infiltration route for herself and her companions outside? They certainly couldn't just waltz through the front door without all promptly getting escorted to the nearest police headquarters upon their arrest. She glanced around, instructing Morgana to do the same --- hoping that they might be able to find a proper point of interest and perfect place to get in unnoticed during the night.

Jayson was eager to get inside the Jirachi's Casino, not only was he thirsty after his long journey to the location, he was keen to case the joint in preparation for their infiltration. He was a well travelled man but he had never taken on such a large joint venture, it was important that he contributed as best he could while keeping his identity concealed. He wasn't entirely sure what to expect, all he knew was that there would be eyes on them at all times, which is the reason he had chosen to bring Odysseus with him. The Magnemite was used to playing a tactical role within his team and would likely excel in this situation. Not only was the Magnemite analytical but it was also capable of interacting with electronics. It was well known that Pokemon of his species had the ability to hack electronic devices, something that could prove vital during both stages of the heist.

Jayson entered the Casino casually, passing by the Metagross and Aegislash that stood guard at the door. Odysseus stuck close to his side, he had instructed the Magnemite to take note of everything. Odysseus had the ability to teleport which would likely come in handy but he would need to see different areas of the Casino if he wanted to teleport around later. The first thing he did was make his way into the restroom. He spent a few moments in there. One because it was a long trip with no toilet breaks. Two because it would make a great location to teleport to if they got into trouble. He didn't bother looking around in there for any clues though since it didn't really strike him as a place he would find some. Jayson washed his hands before exiting the restroom, immediately turning towards the elevator. He had to wait a few minutes to get the elevator to himself but eventually it seemed he was clear to enter. He quickly pressed the button to close the door behind him, he didn't want anyone else in there with him.

"Odysseus", he whispered, "I assume there is a surveillance camera in here, see if you can disrupt it and trace where the feed is coming from, we need to locate the surveillance room as soon as possible."

Months. Months of waiting and watching. Almost a year of waiting and watching and then her entire Coin stash disappears, funneled away somewhere that he couldn't see, digitally or otherwise? Not. Happening. Not on his watch. He'd checked other long-standing accounts to see if her Coins had only disappeared because he'd been found out, but they'd also been either erased or had their balances wiped for whatever reason, so something else had to be going on here. The new administration wasn't the type to just make their members' Coins disappear without an announcement, from what little he'd noticed over the past three months, so it couldn't be them. But that didn't really leave any other possibilities that he knew of.

"Still no luck?"

"No." Aiden leaned back and stretched before rolling his head to look at where his brother was making lunch in the kitchen. "There's no more Coins anywhere that I can find, which means I can't get my hands on a Pokémon to start adventuring with!"

"Well, there's always our parents, if you really have to do this," Mike said, stirring something in a pot.

"Do you really think they'll be fine with this when they wouldn't even let us go at the usual age?"

Mike shrugged. "It doesn't hurt to ask, does it?"

Aiden turned his gaze back up to the ceiling. "I s'pose not, but I wanted to do this myself, y'know? Independence and all that shit." Mike hummed in acknowledgement.

After a beat, Aiden sighed. "Wasn't meant to be, I guess."

He let himself wallow for a bit, just to get it out of his system, so he wouldn't be distracted deciding whether and how he would try again. An entire year, wasted. All because he didn't want to risk making his move. He'd waited too long, the administration changed, Coins were suspended, and then the Coins for Prizes was closed down. He should've known then that he was out of luck, but he'd hoped...

There was a sudden beep from his laptop and Aiden looked down at the screen, clicking curiously on the email his program had intercepted. A picture of a Phantump in some costumed getup floated next to some ransom-note-type font that read: The Phantump Thieves cordially invite you to Jirachi's Casino to retrieve what has been taken from you. The information gathering phase will begin tomorrow. You can only bring ONE partner Pokémon. Good luck!

Aiden tilted his head to one side, considering the email. It definitely looked like some kind of spam, but...it was also kind of suspicious. What did the old casino have to do with the missing Coins? Were they the ones who'd cleaned out all of the accounts he'd checked in on, including the one he'd been planning on using to get his starter? It wasn't that farfetched of an idea and they mentioned retrieving what'd been taken from them...

Well, it wasn't like Melissa would notice her missing balance anytime soon, so it wouldn't hurt to check out the casino, right?

"Hey, do you want some lunch or what?"

Aiden put his laptop on the coffee table and went to see what Mike had made.

---

Aiden frowned as he made his way towards the glittering Jirachi's Casino, tilting his head back to look up at the building. He'd never actually visited the place, seeing as he was originally here to make money, not lose it gambling, but it definitely looked fancier than the last time he'd really looked at it.

Through the steel double doors--thick and hard to break through by the looks of it; maybe go for the walls around it, instead, provided there wasn't another way in?--stood an Aegislash and a Metagross, each with a little guard hat perched on top of...what passed for their heads. (Steel-types, one Ghost and one Psychic.) Aiden tried not to think too hard as he passed them.

He only glanced over the left side of the lobby, making particular note of the Arcanine (Fire-type and canine. Of course. Arcanine are supposed to be good guards, right?) sitting next to the help desk and the Machamp patrolling the space (Well, that makes things...interesting, if a frontal assault is what ends up happening. Hopefully, I'm not the only one planning on robbing this place.), before heading towards the stairs on the right. He ducked his head as he got closer, tilting the brim of his borrowed hat down and hoping it covered his face without looking too suspicious, before he started down the stairs. A quick look around downstairs to see if he could figure out where they might be keeping the Pokémon or storing the items and then he'd see if he could find a way in from the outside.

Kawaii's nose wrinkled as the smell of the Casino hit her. The smell reminded her of her of her father. She didn't really know why. It was both dim and bright in the center of the casino. The pinkette held tight to the Espeon in her arms. She nuzzled her nose into the soft pink fur of her closest companion. Frieghya purred in a reassuring way I know it smells and is loud but you need to figure out what is going on.
Kawaii nodded and pulled her head up out of the fur and set the pink psychic-type down. She breathed in then immediately regretted it, coughing at the smell. She shook her head to clear it and began to scan the crowded area, people were playing the slots in the center and there were constant noises of people winning small amounts of coins. Along the sides were blackjack tables and bars packed with people drinking. Some people were smoking while they played on the machines, which explained the smell. The pinkette decided that the best place to start would be the machines, since they gave out coins. She gently sat down at an empty machine and put a few of her few coins in to make it seem she was just playing while Frieghya began to sniff around the base and up the back. Searching endlessly for something that appeared off about the machine.
The female trainer grabbed the handle of the machine and gave it an experimental spin.

Melody had felt both a rush of excitement and disgust as she walked into the lobby. The excitement was from feeling almost like she was a spy, finally her life had turned into a heist movie, a heist movie that she would probably finance to be made. Of course she would play herself, and Danny Devito would play the Detective Pikachu sidekick responsible for doing the behind the scenes sleuthing. The disgust was from what the Casino had turned into, as well as those responsible for it.

Melody was quick to volunteer to go undercover, lately it sorta felt like she was turning more and more into feeling like she was a hero of sorts. Not an idiot, she decided to disguise herself so she wouldn't be recognised as super pop star Melody Starr, obviously. Donning a shoulder length brown wig, a stunning silver gown, and a good enough contouring job that her face looked quite different, Melody felt that there was no way anyone would know who she was.

The lobby was huge, undoubtedly she wasn't the only undercover trainer who was impressed by it, but Melody didn't have the time to be impressed. She needed to get to work. Cleverly hidden in her hair was her Spinarak, Silk, who hopefully would be able to get some surveillance work done. She figured that the wall and ceiling climbing spider might be able to go about relatively undetected.

Melody slowly sauntered on over to the elevator, making it seem like she was interested in everything that she passed. She was quick to step into it, and closed the door as soon as she could. Melody didn't want anyone else in there, especially considering that she was about to confirm the plan with Silk.

"Okay Silk," she said, making herself seem like she was singing under her breath, "Once we get to wherever this elevator is going to be taking us, I need to find us a place where you can covertly get out of my do, and then we can get to work."

It didn't exactly hurt the Schmeltzer "sisters" too much when the digital Coin balances got mysteriously wiped over night, since they weren't really all that invested into the system in the first place. Sure, one of them would come in to give the Roulette a quick spin, but it's not like the gambit came close to ruling their lives. That being said, a robbery was a robbery, and there are precious few people in the world who would let this type of thing slide- and Ami was not among them.

If you told her that she'd be running two different infiltration missions a few months ago, you would have received a disbelieving look at the very least. Yet here she was, making her way to the somewhat beaten Jirachi Casino with a pink Coin Case in hand to begin the second of her missions. The case, of course, still contained the Coins it came with- no self-respecting gambler would leave all their wealth in a single place. The part of this particular infiltration is that she didn't need to change anything about her appearance yet, and acting casual isn't exactly hard when you're pretty casual from the get-go.

She gave a brief nod to the aegislash as she entered the building (surely the metagross was aware that it wasn't very popular, right?) and made her way to the check-in counter. "Hello, it's been a while. ...Yes, I'm a repeat visitor. ...My account's under the name 'Dichromatia', with the access code of 162851. ...I have noticed that the bulk of my very small fortune has been lost, but that's what I'm here for. Gotta build that back up for later. ...No, I did not bring any alcohol with me. ...You do realize that I'm underage, right? Fine, whatever, I'll just be on my way." Honestly, the employees can be as bad as the more unsavory visitors sometimes.

The casino was pretty busy today, with quite a few people (including a certain pinkette Ami had not expected to see in the establishment for any reason) had a pokemon out and about, so she figured there really wasn't much risk in releasing one of her own. "Nadie, I need you to look for unusual things about this place," she whispered as she let loose her woobat. "And please stay focused." She stopped walking at the Jirachi fountain, dug a Coin out of her case, and flipped into the water. 'May this little adventure end well and fruitfully for me,' she wished to the mythical being, certain as she was that it couldn't hear her.

Why did every single one of these missions start off with so much cigarette smoke, exactly?

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, IT'S GONE, IT'S ALLLLL GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!!!"

Everyone inside Hyrem's base awoke to a long and loud yowling that sounded like it came from a certain feline, and Hyrem ran downstairs, along with most of the Pokemon that were normally found indoors, going into the room with the small indoor pool to find a distraught Liepard on the other side fumbling through a much smaller pile of treasure than usual. Specifically, where there would be a good few stacks of tokens earned at Jirachi's Casino, those shiny coins were nonexistent now. "Oh," said Hyrem as soon as he noticed the difference that Selina was the first to see. "That's a pretty big problem." While the other Pokemon approached to console Selina, he ran back up the stairs and into his room, accessing the Coin Exchange from his PC. "ACCESS GRANTED," the computer voice droned. "YOUR COIN BALANCE IS CURRENTLY 0."

"What!?" Hyrem blurted out. "That's impossible, I've got at least six figures in coins!" Doing a little more digging, an article suddenly popped up that gave some pause to the trainer. "...Wait, the Casino is back? I thought it closed down months ago!" Something was certainly amiss as it seemed that, not only were huge stashes of coins being wiped off the face of the earth, there were also items and very rare Pokemon, all of which appeared in the Coins for Prizes shop at one point in time, that were disappearing with them! At the end of the article was a note from the writers, a call to action for those in the Fizzy Islands...not to brute force their way in, but rather be ready to steal back what was stolen from them.

"So...mysterious disappearances of all sorts of things?" a sultry voice whispered behind Hyrem's ear. "Ack!" he said in surprise, whirling around to find himself face to face with Tsurara, a recent acquaintance who had a taste for his flesh ever since she was a Snorunt. "Stop...doing that, you're gonna scare me to death!"
"One can only hope~" the Froslass crooned before floating closer to the computer. "One can also hope that certain...enemies of hers may be behind this."
"I really doubt they'd be a part of this-"
"And even if they aren't," she continued. "It's a casino, I haven't been to one in ages, and if there's anything to gain out of going to casinos it's a devilishly good time."
"I'd be more interested in the secrets they've got in there, especially where they might be hiding the Pokemon," Hyrem replied. "But I guess I can bring you along for the day part, as long as you pay attention to what's around you."
"Darling, you're walking a fine line insulting a lady like that~ I know my way around seedy places, and I know just how to get the best bits of gossip out of anybody!"
"I'm just worried you'll freeze someone to death in the process," said Hyrem.
"I can resist that temptation...for now," she said with a smile.

Both Hyrem and Tsurara went down to see Selina, who was still reeling from the sudden "hole in her pocket", and Hyrem knelt down next to her and got her attention with a few scritches behind her ear. As the big cat leaned into it and eventually melted into his lap, he tried his best to keep her calm with his voice: "It's okay, big girl, I've got an idea: we put your skills to good use and go steal stuff from the casino that robbed us!" Selina perked up at this idea and looked right into his eyes; her talents had always come in handy in the service of Team Pocket, but she had no idea her trainer would ever consider her thievery useful. She couldn't wait for the chance to truly make her mark on the world...

***************

"Phew, finally indoors..." Tsurara didn't think the summer heat would affect her as much as it did, but that was probably one of the downsides of being a Froslass. Clinging to Hyrem's shoulders rather than relying on her own power to float, relief set in as soon as the air conditioning blew on them when they passed through the entrance, for Hyrem as well as Tsurara. "Good, now you can stop breathing on my neck and sending those creepy chills down my spine," he gave a cold response.
"Oh come now," Tsurara whispered, "you know I'm going to keep doing it until you admit you like it~ Besides, don't people from the Kanto region tell scary stories to each other during the summer to cool themselves off?"
"Yeah, but normally those stories aren't real!" he rebutted, Tsurara only having her left arm draped over his left shoulder, the energy returning to her now that they were in a cooler environment.
"Normally~"
"Remind me again why you're with me and not Selina?" he asked.
"There was rumors of trinkets being available to be stolen, remember?" she whispered again. "Much too tempting for a cat thief, I imagine. And she's waiting for word from her 'Team Pocket' friends before she is ready to move; I, however, am much less patient, and I'm here to have some fun! You know, just a little reminiscing about things I used to do when I was alive." She looked around, noticing the guards out and about and gave a wink to the Aegislash and Metagross back at the entrance. "Anyway, where to...master~?"
Hyrem had to take a moment to bring his focus off the Ghost-type flirting with him and on to where might be the best place to explore and find where they might be hiding the Pokemon. I don't think we'll get much by looking around the ground floor, we're probably better off searching higher or lower. "How about upstairs? I kinda want to look for somewhere really roomy."
"As long as there's someone I can talk to, I won't mind~"
"...Right." As he started traveling to the upper floor, he hoped it would be the topmost floor and therefore a place with easy roof access. If not, it might still be worth looking around in case there was an area that might be interesting for people to poke around later on at night.

EDIT: Pokedex entries:
Spoiler: show
Aegislash, the Royal Sword Pokemon, and the final evolution of Honedge. Myths about this Pokemon have been known to conflict with each other, with some myths claiming it sees leadership qualities inside various humans and serves them until those humans have become rulers, while others call it the true ruler behind a human "puppet figure", manipulating people and Pokemon both rich and poor under its domain.

Metagross, the Iron Leg Pokemon. A single entity with four minds, this Pokemon can calculate anything faster and smarter than the world's smartest supercomputer. It is therefore easily able to outsmart anything it encounters and make it a potential meal, overpowering its prey by using its four legs to pin down the most important limbs before dropping its heavy main body on the pinned target. Once the prey is either dead or incapacitated, it starts to eat, crushing the body in its mouth.

Arcanine, the Legendary Pokemon. Despite being classified as the Legendary Pokemon due to its status in Eastern mythology as sitting alongside a conqueror of many kingdoms, Arcanine is much more common compared to the Legendary-class Pokemon of today. It is highly prized by many trainers due to its regal appearance, its deep bark, and its ability to run as if on thin air. Its internal flame fuels its running capabilities as well as its fire breath attacks.

Machamp, the Superpower Pokemon. Machamp is unique from most other fighters in that it has four arms instead of two, giving it a fighting style that catches opponents off guard and overwhelms them. This includes lightning fast punches, lifting opponents over its head before throwing them miles away from it, or holding them in place with all four arms in a lock move that is near impossible to escape from. Its main weakness is its large fingers which prevent it from doing any delicate or dexterous work.

Gary entered Jirachi’s Casino, looking around in awe at the sheer size of the building. He carefully glanced around at the guard Pokemon that were positioned at certain areas, but he made sure no eye contact was made. It seemed like this would be a daunting task after all. An Aipom sat perched on Gary’s shoulder, his mischievous grin beamed as he took in his surroundings.

The reason why Gary was here was because he had heard several reports about Pokemon that had gone missing as well as a large quantity of rare items and people’s coins. Surely there was some shady business afoot, and Gary had conspired with a few of his colleagues that something needed to be done about this. Their group had decided that it was best to split up for now and investigate separately so they would not attract attention, and then when they were ready they could pool their information together. With their plans set in place, Gary had designated himself in charge of investigating the main floor of the casino.

Looking around the lobby, Gary spotted a rather large fountain with a sature of Jirachi in the middle of it. Above it contained a star-shaped window in the ceiling above. Behind the statue, Gary noticed a security camera, which he made sure he didn’t stare directly at. “Hey Scurvy,” he whispered to his Aipom, “Why don’t you sneak on up to that light and check it out? That could be our way in. Just make sure you avoid being in the line of the camera. Otherwise, forget it and come back to me.” Scurvy grinned and nodded, letting out an “Ai ai!” Gary smirked and shushed his Pokemon. Once Scurvy was done, he had planned on venturing STRAIGHT AHEAD to check out the rest of the lobby.

“I know. I know it stings, but stay with me... Don't phase out... you're doing a great job! Stay focused, it's almost... there.”

It was an odd sight indeed – a lavender-haired woman in a torn, bloodstained suit among the throng of nurses, Blisseys and Comfeys, kneeling by a hospital cot. The Gengar to whom she provided ministrations winced as a strong poultice was sprayed on his semi-corporeal body. Forcing a smile, the woman rests a gentle hand on the Gengar's forehead, taking in the indescribable sensation of that which was not fully present, yet nonetheless among them, feeling pain as all the others did.

“I would not recommend shifting phases for the next few hours. Your trainer will be in shortly to check in on you – I will be happy to let him know how well you're doing. Keep your mind clear and your thoughts on recovering.”

Marion's own Pokemon had been fortunate – the blunt trauma wounds that August had sustained in the latest efforts to break into Jirachi's Casino were nothing out of the ordinary for a combatant of her caliber, and a day or two of rest would see to their healing. Bedivere, who had also taken significant damage, was already well enough to very politely take over the infirmary cafeteria and make wonderful treats for everyone who visited, his bandaged tentacles mixing and baking and frying away. Sangre, the silent watchbat, was dexterous enough to avoid some of the heavier hits, but still had difficulty flying some few hours after the incident - he was moved to the inorganic unit to be relieved of the constant smell of delicious, delicious blood, which elicited cravings. Others in the raiding party had not been so fortunate, and given Marion's expertise, the task of administering aid to the ghost types who had been injured in this and previous attempts fell squarely on her shoulders. It was fortunate indeed that the city's hospital was mere blocks away from the Casino – but post-anarchy Fizzytopolis was still in recovery, and not well equipped to take in the sudden surge of patients.

Of course, Marion had run in after her Pokémon like an idiot, only to be thrown back by an unseen force and knocked out cold. She had been among the first to receive medical attention - most of the blood on her suit was hers - but her pride took the hardest hit by far. How could she and the strongest members of her team be so helpless in the face of this crisis? Even with the assistance of other nations, other leaders, success seemed maddeningly out of reach. Others were talking about drastic measures to resolve the issue... Their suggestions terrified her.

As she is about to leave her ghostly patient to help patch up a Drifblim with a small leak on the second floor, she is startled by the sudden absence of light in the Gengar's room. Turning around, she sees that the window has been blocked out by a batlike figure, which appears to be opening up the window from the outside. Recognizing the badge on the creature's necktie as being from the Noivern Express Delivery Service, she assists the Pokemon in its attempts at opening the window. Gracefully flying inside, Marion assumes the package tied around the creature's torso must be some kind of get-well gift from afar for one of the patients – how surprised she is when the Noivern beckons to her!

Retrieving the package carefully, the Pokemon and Elite exchange respectful bows, before the Noivern once again takes flight. Shutting the window behind it, Marion cautiously unravels the package, only to find a handwritten note inside -

Marion scoffs. “Yeah, sure. Cooperate. I know a trap when I read one.”

...Still, she pockets the letter, as she makes her way to her next patient.

Outside the Casino lobby, a flickering purple light shines through the cracks of the first double door, as a Lampent curiously inspects the dents and scrapes imprinted on its exterior. Finally, the Pokemon points with his “arm”, looking to his trainer with bright, yellow eyes.

“Yes, that's definitely August's fist, all right. See if you can find where she headbutted it,” the trainer beside him wryly comments – dressed in her best tourist approximation, she had purchased a FIZZY BUBBLES EST 1998 tank top from a local souvenir shop, paired with some non-descript white shorts and cheap, rubber flip-flops with sequins to complete the “I'm here for my Summer Vacation” look. Of course, there was a significant drawback to showing off her bandaged arms and legs, but she would come up with some story if she had to. There was some practicality in the getup - sporting a thick pair of designer shades to conceal her eyes and a large, black, wide-brimmed floppy hat to keep her trademark lavender locks hidden, she pauses to try to shove in a stray strand – only to have a few more fall out in the process. Well, at least it's keeping my scalp from burning to a crisp in this damn heat. Sighing, she adjusts her glasses instead, to get a better view of her luminous companion, who was using his cast light and flickering flame to create a shadowy silhouette of August against the door, trying to imagine the scene as it happened. Gwyn had not participated in the initial raid – not for lack of strength, but for his sensitive, introspective personality - not well suited for direct confrontation on the field of battle. Certainly, he could fight, but only as an absolute necessity or when directly ordered... and if the rumors regarding the motives of other trainers in Fizzby were to be believed, perhaps this was the perspective Marion needed to make this work.

Marion uncrumpled the note she had received the day before – she had thrown it in the garbage at least twice before finding herself compelled to retrieve it – and read its contents once more. Of course, they hadn't changed since first receiving the note, but one could never shake the feeling that there had to be some clue – some hint – something more to the missive than what was written. Gwyn, noticing his trainer's preoccupation, illuminates the note with his trademark purple glow... Only to create a small shadow of a question mark against the note.

“Honestly, Gwyn... I don't know why I'm doing this, either.” Marion sighs and shrugs her shoulders. “If I read the situation right, this is the type of thing I should be staying far, far away from... but I can't let it go.”

Gwyn nods sagely, the look in his eyes as illuminated as the rest of him. He seemed to know what his trainer didn't... but refused to elaborate, through light or through shadow. He merely stays by her side, content to wait
Outside with her for the mysterious sender of this note.

How are you holding up? I'm a potato.

"And here you are, after all. You've always been quite the intuitive one. I'm glad that letter reached you." Duke exclaimed, having apparently listened in to the elite trainer's last line of conversation. With her current get up, he probably would've missed her out of his periphery, but fortunately Duke could rely on his keenest of trackers to help him identify the right person. The Lampent beside her only served as additional confirmation. He himself wore a relatively casual outfit, meant to help him blend in with the casino's patrons: a salmon-colored slim fit shirt; simple capri pants; and a pair of white espadrilles. Golden-rimmed aviator glasses covered his eyes to the surrounding crowd. He wondered if it would take long for her to recognize him.

Marion's scent was something the Seviper could never forget herself, even without the aid of a scent refreshner, though what made it memorable was not born out of an associated sentiment of affection, but rather a desire to enact bloody revenge. From Chris's perspective, what happened years ago, and the consequences thereafter, where all the ghost specialist's fault. Unforgivable. Utterly unforgivable. Yet, the timing was off. Her trainer was watching.

Duke on the other hand did not share on his starter's hatred, though he harbored some conflicting emotions, even now. He wasn't around when Marion returned - as a member of the elite, no less! - and now that she was back, he had to confirm things himself; he wanted to see her eye to eye and gauge just what kind of soul was still hiding behind them. It was his intent to walk and explore around on the outside while catching up with Marion, and talking her into working together, if only, at least, by virtue of their talent alone. If she would have him, that is.

"Hey there!" He pulled up his glasses as he greeted her; forming a small, warm smile in the process. "It's been a long time. How have you been?"

It seemed that the case of the missing valuables in Jirachi's Casino was enough to bring a variety of people and Pokemon from all over. Each came for their own reasons, some more unsavory then others, and the pair of Pokemon approaching the building was no exception.
On the left was a rather excited looking Magneton, the magnet Pokemon zooming around his teammate in anticipation. The second was a stern looking Nuzleaf, who seemed to be ignoring the Magneton's actions.
The two seemed like polar opposites, and any outsiders might have questioned why they were together in the first place. But the truth was, the two were only paired up out of necessity. The two of them had awoken only hours early, only to find their trainer, along with the rest of their teammates, were completely missing!
The last they had remembered, the two had been battling against some powerful Pokemon. The Nuzleaf, pitted against a Mega Sableye and Honedge, while the Magneton recalled a battle against a mighty Electric type Pokemon.
In their search for their trainer, the two had learned the news about Jirachi's Casino, and what was just about to transpire! Eager to join in, the two decided to journey there without a second thought.

"Yay this going to be so exciting! Are you excited? Error is excited!" The Magneton droned as he continued to circle his teammate.

"Error, hush!" Kage scolded the Magneton. "We don't need you bringing any more attention to us."

"Right, Error apologizes." The Magneton replied.
"But wait, Error has a question. How exactly is this helping us find our friends?"

That was right, Kage had nearly forgot. While she had decided to join in the mission without a second thought, Error hadn't been nearly as eager. Only after convincing the Magneton that it would help find their trainer, had Error decided to join the Nuzleaf.

"Right...well..I'm sure we're going to find something we can pawn off, right? With those funds, we can just hire someone to find our friends." Kage explained.

"Oh! You're a genius! Good thinking!" Error replied, prompting a small grin from Kage. Though the Nuzleaf was planning on pawning off any thing she could find and recover, she had no intention of using the money for anything but her research.
Depending on what she found, she could surely amass enough to develop a memory recovery machine, right? With her dreams set a bit too high, the Nuzleaf guided her teammate to the front of the casino, before turning to him.

"Alright Error, now it's your job to go inside and...check out the new slot machines they have....try and make us some good money, ok?" The Nuzleaf asked, hoping Error would get the message.

"Huh? But I thought we wer-oh right! Error is so dumb!" The Magneton droned.
"Alright, Error will go gambling, you stay here and wait for our trainer." Error added, before making his way inside the building...
----
The first thing Error noticed as he entered the Casino was the two guards on either side of him. On his left an Aegislash, and on his right a Metagross.

This was no fun. With security guards around, Error knew his job was going to be even harder then he had initially thought. Deciding not to dwell on this, Error turned to his left, where he immediately noticed the souvenir shop.

"Yay! Error loves souvenirs!" The Magneton exclaimed as he flew towards the shop. Just before he reached it, the Magneton stopped, realizing just what he had done. He could already hear Kage in his mind, scolding him for bringing more attention to himself.
Besides, the Magneton was completely broke, and wouldn't be able to buy anything anyway. Making a mental note to inform Kage about the shop, Error reluctantly flew away from it, pondering where he would begin his search.
After much debate, Error began to float towards the upstairs, hoping to leave his thoughts of wonderful souvenirs behind him.

Tate had spent weeks studying the local systems. Watching the numbers of non-native species rise. Planning the clandestine meeting that would bring the team together to put a stop to... what, exactly? Up until last night, the bird keeper hadn't the faintest idea what was going on, exactly; only that it was bad news. Now, Tate stood in front of the glittering casino, gaudy and garish, armed with the knowledge of what was happening and the resolve to put a stop to it. Kai stood by her master, with similar determination; shitholes like this were run by scumbags, full stop. There was no redemption for the kind of people who fed off the addictions of others and dealt in shady business, trading lives for money and getting rich off of broken dreams. How many men had gambled away their savings? How many children had gone hungry? How many Pokémon had been reduced to trinkets? Roll up, roll up! Everything for the right price. Tate spit on the ground.

In a floral shirt and salmon-colored cargo shorts, the trainer looked just like another tourist. With a Vaporeon on hand, one might think Tate were a big spender; after all, many people get a Pokémon like Kai not with hard work but with deep pockets. Trying hard to play it cool, the pair walked through the doors of the casino and into the lobby. The guards on duty were duly intimidating but what put Tate immediately on edge were all the people; hundreds of them, milling about, their voices a low roar in the crowded lobby. It immediately set off the Johto native's anxiety. They were here to scope out the place, and get a feel for it so that they -- the whole gang which Tate had brought together the night before -- could return that night to raid it. Tate wasn't confident in the ability to slog through this crowd of people, however, chest tight and thoughts racing.

"I... forgot my wallet," Tate said aloud, suddenly, looking to Kai. Feigning an exasperated sigh, the trainer turned back towards the doors, and jammed both hands into the pockets of the brightly colored cargo shorts which defined the flamboyant outfit for which the trainer was known, and headed back outside. Once out of earshot of anyone who might not appreciate their plans, Tate gave Kai an apologetic look.

"We'll just... see what they have going on out here," the trainer reasoned. "Maybe we'll find some kind of duct system, or cargo vehicles, or... I don't know. I just couldn't be in there. I wouldn't have been any good."

After having a secret midnight meeting with friends just hours ago, Patches was now on her way to the casino, where she must gather information on her own before regrouping. She was shocked to find out about all of the disappearing currencies and Pokemon and even more shocked when she found out that the one place that is still thriving is the casino where she knows one of her Pokemon once lived. Despite the shock however, Patches was as energetic as usual as she jogged down the path leading to the casino. Her Pikachu, Mio, is also along for the ride as she balances herself perfectly on her shoulder. She had originally asked her Eevee Hana if she would like to come along since this casino was once her home but Mio insisted on being the one chosen to accompany her. Mio knows her trainer can be a bit reckless and with how serious this mission is, she wants to be there in hopes of keeping Patches in check.

Finally, they have reached their destination and Patches is now standing outside of the casino doors. She wasn’t nervous at all, she knew that going undercover meant that she couldn’t say out loud why exactly she was there but there was really no reason to act any differently than she normally would anyway. Regardless, she is going to stand out with her bright purple leggings, matching purple headband, light blue hair, bright red framed glasses, and two differently colored eyes. The only thing plain about her was her white blouse and frilly black skirt, but they didn’t do anything to dampen how loud the rest of her appearance was. This is the way she always dressed since she really likes colorful accessories because they match her colorful personality, so she didn’t change it.

Speaking of accessories, after entering through the main doors the first thing Patches sees are the adorable little hats with Jirachi’s on them that the guard Pokemon are wearing. “Awwww!” She squeals and runs up to the Metagross. “Is there a souvenir shop where I can buy one of those adorable hats?” That is when Mio, who is still on her shoulder nudges her on the side of the head with her elbow, reminding her that she isn’t here to buy souvenirs. “Oh, actually never mind!” She gives the Metagross a wave and continues to go deeper into the casino with one goal in mind. ’Okay Cardia, don’t get distracted. You need to find that elevator! Your friends are counting on you.’ As she wanders past the guards she can’t help but wonder if the rest of her friends are already here. The place is so crowded she wouldn’t be able to find them without looking but right now they are supposed to be splitting up so she keeps that in mind and doesn’t wander in too far. She spots her destination quickly, since it’s pretty close to the entrance. “Wow this place really does have an elevator, Mio.” She is so excited, hoping that when she gets to ride it there will be a bunch of other people riding it too since being crammed into an elevator with a bunch of people is the best part of riding the elevator. “I’m going to stand dead center so that I can be as close as possible to everyone.” After approaching the elevator doors she waits for them to open up which doesn’t take very long. After everyone inside clears out she boards the elevator along with the other people who were also waiting and couldn’t resist pressing all of the buttons before taking her place in the center. ’I wonder where this elevator is going to take me.’
