kono subarashii sekai ni shukufuku wo
Whelp the Kono Suba anime ended. Was a fun ride. It took them 10 episodes to use even the slightest form of CGI, so well done on the animators' parts for a humorous and mostly CGI free run. Excellent end to the series. I'll have to rate it 8/10. Spoiler: show

Watching this anime is like someone of the opposite sex reaching out and squeezing your nutbladder when you're not looking. The sound you make? hnnnng. Not to be confused with the sound of a heart attack.

'tis near the end of the season, which means it's time for next season's anime lineup! I am interested in:
Kuma Miko - Just something to list. It seems somewhat different, so maybe it's worth a look. That is if this isn't another 3 minute anime. Kuromukuro - PA is on-and-off. More often than not, they do really forced and cliche shows with really pretty animation. So that said, let's see how forced and pretty they can get for their anniversary show! .....aaaaaaand that's it. I don't even have any expectations for these two shows either. Sure, there's the Hokuto no Ken characters in Hentai Kamen poses show (Jojo) that everyone seems to have a boner for, but I'm still behind on it. Maybe there will be something to surprise me like Konosuba has. Speaking of which.... Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! Finished with this. From start to finish, this was a fun show. While having a sketchy animation studio doing it, and an overdone plotline, I figured it would be garbage. Thankfully this show goes above those stereotypes I originally forced onto this show. While still not an amazing show, it's something I looked forward to every week. Konosuba is 8worthy. Dagashi Kashi You know, this show isn't half bad when Hotaru isn't going on about candy. Sad thing is, that's 80% of the show. The episodes that were just about the characters and their relationship with each other were actually pretty enjoyable. Sadly those moments are few and far between, with Hotaru finding some dumbass way to promote her candy. Even worse is that the author knows she's fucking annoying with that shit, and he still does it. Oh well. I still look forward to her contributions to C90. Hopefully this dry spell with anime will end soon. I kind of miss following 8+ shows and enjoying most of them. |

News on the street is Kyoani had to resort to incest in Musaigen no Phantom in an attempt to salvage the season.
But Kyoani is the most bankable name in anime, you say. It's like Japanese equivalent of "Trump" you say. Kyoani's economic campaign came to a screeching halt on a chilling Thursday morning, when an under-the-radar anime called Konosuba took a deep breath and bellowed, an event known to survivors as the "DEEN Scream". So, Kyoani's striptease sell-off continues. First, they sold the blouse, by allowing the Gainax bounce in CLANNAD. Then, they sell off the skirt in Amagi Brilliant Park with all the nudity fanservice. Now the bra's been auctioned off here in Phantom World. Could it be, could it be? Is Kyoani willing to sell off its last shred of dignity next season...? Spoiler: show

>New Season
「Seisen Cerberus: Ryuukoku no Fatalité」 sounds chunni enough to stave off my eternal unholy thirst. At the very least, the dragon has a cool design and there are magical lasers. 「Re: Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu」 also sounds like it could be up my alley, but the protagonist's design isn't particularly interesting and the gender ratio of the characters on the front is skewed to the extent that I worry. I'll probably give the first episode a try at the least if I can find the time. 「Endride」 also looks interesting, I look forwards to seeing what happens with that, although I can't discern much from the scant description. Sounds like it'll be character-focused, which is cool.

>Spring season
Saddens me immensely. Nothing seems too good. May end up watching a few episodes of random shows and see if anything sticks. I also saw the words "Duel Masters", and did a double take. I remember that from mooooooooons ago, and was surprised it was still around. And holy fuck is it different. What the shit.

I'll probably be watching Boku no Hero Academia, which seems to be getting a lot of hype from readers of the manga. BONES is animating it and the PVs looked nice, so at the very least it'll have good action scenes.
Joker Game seems like something that would be very good or very bad, so I might check that out too. |

KonoSuba was really fucking hilarious.
- A pathetic main character who is rational and logical, but lacks fighting skills - A goddess turned arch-priest healer.... who sucks at healing - A cute try-hard arch-wizard obsessed with her magic... who can only cast one spell per day before passing out - A perverted masochistic tank (Crusader) who loves to be publicly humiliated and getting hit, but can't hit back or fight worth shit Really good cast that bounces off each other really well, very good voice acting as well. KonoSuba is the "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" of fantasy/RPG anime. 8.5/10 |

I think for the second season I'm going to start a topic for Konosuba. Or someone else might, doesn't really matter. It's good to see a lot of people watched and enjoyed it!

Dagashi Kashi ended, and nothing changed. Still an irritating show that only teases that it will turn out alright. Dagashi Kashi is worth a 5.
I've started two new shows. Mayoiga I mistakenly thought this was the PA show. Admittedly it looks and acts like one. This show seems to be another mystery. It has a decent start, and I like the premise, but mysteries tend to start out well, then become dumb later on. Funny thing about the OP/ED is the fact that they're both nothing but face shots. It's like the anime has nothing else going on to show in the OP/ED! Boku no Hero Academia So this is a story from Mumen Rider's perspective.....until he eventually gains ultra awesome powers. This looks like it's from the people who did Kill la Kill, so this will probably turn out very stupid. I hope I'm wrong. The first episode wasn't bad. It overplayed main guy's problem a bit too much, but atleast I get the point! I'm still not sure what to make of this yet. We only got some introductions, so this could go either way. |

So, Boku no Hero Academia is actually a BONES production, whereas Kill la Kill was Trigger. I definitely see some stylistic similarities myself, but this is not the case. I really enjoyed the first episode as well. My problem with it is that it's apparently only scheduled for 13 episodes, and the manga is still ongoing with some eighty-something chapters right now. And - the first episode only covered half of the first chapter. And now we come back around to so many of the issues I have with the anime industry...

I am not much of a manga reader. So for me to devour four entire chapters of a manga in less than twenty minutes ...
Quote:
We will get an anime adaptation. This manga is just too cute, delightful, harrowing, and fun. The artwork is adorable. The story is an amazing mix of adorable, tragic, exciting, and funny. It explores some very familiar ideas in storytelling but does so in a specific permutation that we don't see all too often. (There's an example from 1-3 years ago that I can recall, where a guy is reincarnated in a JRPG world as a moblin or something. In that sense this is very specifically close to that. But again, that particular story concept isn't the most common in the world.) I dunno. I just think this manga's amazing and while I regret that I probably won't be following it monthly from here on out (it's just not something I've ever tended to do =\ ), I absolutely adored reading all of the chapters that I could find tonight and will be checking back in for the next chapter in the coming days. Highly recommend! Tell me your thoughts!

I know of this title. That should be a bad sign. When users in this forum tend to interoduce titles, those titles tend to ally with their tastes.
For example, Talon you tend to introduce thrillers, heartwarming stuff or topics of cultural/linguistic interest. BPK reigns in the thriller or the manly/visceral. BBB talks of comedies, cute stuff and stuff with solid plots. Kuno and Morg, when they do pop in, talk of bizarre things. Shows I bring up tend to be ribald, ridicule-worthy, involve black comedy or have some extreme social, sexual deviance. I mean, let's sort my recent posts into these categories: Konosuba: Ribald McDonald's: Ridicule-worthy Musaigen: Sexually deviant Dragonball Super: Ridicule-worthy Grimgar: Ridicule Schwarzesmarken: Black comedy Undefeated Bahamut Chronicle: Ridicule And so on. Kumo desu ga, nani ka? caught me eye for one of them reasons. I forgot the exact reason. But you have been warned!

But you didn't share it with the forum. I did. Even if your pattern holds, you'd have to have been the one to introduce the manga first and you didn't. That you know of its existence means nothing for your pattern. You also know of JoJo's existence, and Love Hina's, and Rurouni Kenshin's, and Kaiji's.
Not that I put much stock in your self-proclaimed pattern anyway. See: One Punch Man.

Will I mean lately. It just tends to be that if if there's a discussion online, I pick up on it if there's something potentially distasteful. I've known about OPM and MOB since 2013, when I was pure.
That said, I could be confusing this manga for another one involving spiders, a girl who becomes an assassin in a "rape zombie" universe. That one is called Arachnid.

So I decided to give some more shows a chance this season, despite nothing really outright appealing to me. The result is:
Anne Happy This season's Gochuumon. I actually quite like the first episode. The whole "unfortunate" thing is overplayed, but all of the characters are twisted enough to make this entertaining. Hopefully this show will keep it up. Bungou Stray Dogs A group of guys with supernatural powers solving mysteries. Not exactly original, but I decided to watch anyway. Sadly there's nothing in the first episode that keeps me interested. The humor is irritating, and the characters don't really interest me. Kuma Miko This is a cute show. It even brings up the elephant in the room that Gingitsune didn't bring up! It's not that funny, but it's an okay show. I'm hoping we'll get more fucked up humor in the future. Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta Despite a giant "NOPE!" flashing in my head when seeing the preview for this, I watched some of the first episode anyway. Note that I said "some of the first episode". I wanted to give Mr. Hisasi a chance, but this is unwatchable. I'm not going to watch a show about a guy bragging about being an otaku and defending his "honor" as being one, nor his nonsensical harem that builds from it. Hisasi should really just stick to porn. |

Seisen Cerberus Ep1
I regret nothing The protagonist is legitimately hilarious in a "would someone please pick up their lost child from the office??" kind of way, the fantasy setting is 100% my aesthetic (you know it's legit when the crowd is so diverse you can't pick out all the races on first glance), and the good-natured poking fun at standard tropes is great (DAT SINGLE STROKE SCENE). I do, however, regret starting watching it when only the first episode is out. ARC-V gives me enough weekly suffering as is! |

Netoge has got to be the most progressive anime in years.
Guy proposes to girl in a MMORPG who is a guy IRL. "She" turns him down. He freaks out. DV ensues on his keyboard. As Japanese otaku, these guys are both firmly engendered binaries. The scene is played for laughs but I can audibly discern the LGBT audience sighing. Later in the episode, the guy who got turned down now thinks "Male, female, whatever...who cares as long as it's cute"? As he delivers this line, you hear a low grunts and groans of a heavy male in the background. Clearly, there was a player nearby who isn't getting enough fiber in his diet. This is AOTS. No, AOTY. BBB, how could you.

I was going to wait until watching more shows before posting, but something needs immediate attention.
Boku no Hero Academia Episode 2 was a really good episode, so it seems this show is going to go in a good direction. Once again, they overplayed the drama a bit, but otherwise nice. Kuma Miko HNNNNNNNNNNG *dies* This show is deadly. Holy fucking shit the main girl is adorable. It's not as funny as I hoped, but it's a really nice feel-good show. Sakamoto desu ga Can you say "Best show ever!"? If I could describe this anime in 3 words, it would be "majestic as fuck". I liked this show before even watching it, then the actual thing aired, and I fell for it. The show is about this guy thwarting bullies in the most elegant way possible. I can easily see it getting old in a few episodes, but until then, I love Sakamoto Desu ga. I'll post the OP in the thread, because that deserves attention too. I have some more new shows on hold. I'll eventually get to them. |

Koutetsujou no Kabaneri - Episode 1
One of the original productions this season. It gave off a bit of an AoT vibe, and had a rather stupid blunder near the end of the episode, but I can honestly say I really did enjoyed it. Love it, even. Like the main character and his design a fair bit. I will definitely be keeping a watch on this to see where it goes from here. Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu - Episode 1 A / B, Episode 2 Interesting. The "oh fuck man, awe shit man i went from the real world to some other fantasy rpg world" thing is really overdone at this point, but it has an interesting thing going for it (which is a spoiler, but it's one that you figure out by the end of the Episode 1 A). The characters so far have been fairly tolerable and I haven't wanted to stab myself while watching this, so that's a plus. Will be keeping an eye on this. Sakamoto desu ga - Episode 1 Pretty fucking great. Boku no Hero Academia - Episode 1 and 2 After seeing the first episode, I immediately binged the manga. It's fairly solid, and a nice change of pace from what I'm used to. Love the art style, has a very comic book vibe to it. Slightly upset that it likely isn't getting too many episodes, and that it took them 2 episodes to cover the first chapter, but meh. Will still be watching this to see how they manage it.

Netoge Blah Blah
After much introspection, I've realized what this anime is. It's freaking Haganai Season 3. The art is similar. The premise is similar. The plot is similar! Proof? I got your proof, right here. Haganai = Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai ("I don't have many friends"). I mean gaaaaaawd dang. I can't go on past the first episode because it's bound to be boring. I think the show blew its load already. Makes me nostalgic for .hack//sign really. .hack was the last anime that really had a full understanding of the MMORPG mystique, and that was almost 13 years ago or so? Even more amazing/forward-thinking is how .hack portrayed the MMO as routine and even bland. Way before the sub-genre saturation of today, along with the final fusion with isekai.

I'm thinking about starting a thread for Boku no Hero Academia, anyone interested? I've started reading the manga as well, I'm 10 chapters in, and for a shonen, this is some good fuckin' shit
Aside from that, I've watched Netoge no Yome, which was pretty hilarious (and awkward, hit a little too close to home on the subject of meeting online friends IRL, at least as far as the awkwardness that presents), I understand why Dopple isn't interested but I'll stick with it for a while, probably. I also tried going back and watching Concrete Revolutio S1, but just 15 minutes in and I found myself very disinterested and turned off from wanting to continue any further. Anyone here watch it that can tell me whether or not it's worth it? It has a strikingly low user score on MAL, but the anime subreddit seems to profess that it's all worth it for the first season's finale. Dunno what to think of that. Kiznaiver was fucking weird, but not in the Kill la Kill sort of way that Trigger is accustomed to - no, it's just weird in a straight weird and surreal fashion. Now, I did enjoy it, as slowly paced as the first episode was, but it has just enough potential and mystery to keep me engaged for the foreseeable future. I'd say it's worth a watch. I'll be watching Joker Game some point soon. - By the way, Gakusen Toshi Asterisk, worth it or not? |
