Icy Wind as you ascend, slow down his progress. Then Quick Attack to dodge the Smack Down and strike.

Looking up at the impressive bird, Laa-Laa for some reason completely ignores all of the perfectly good trees surrounding her and instead decides to stomp the ground, summoning a somewhat tall mound to climb up. Using rocks that are intermixed into the heap as foot and handholds, the Snorlax makes its way towards the top of the pillar. Zephyr sends an icy wind her way, but inertia is a wonderful thing, and since Snorlax is pretty much pure inertia in whatever way by this point, she continues upwards and leaps towards the currently ascending Pidgeot, who struggles slightly as he moves. The blast of cold only serves to slightly decrease her air time as Laa-Laa smashes into the bird-of-prey, sending him tumbling as she thumps to the earth. The two then stare at each other. And stare. And stare some more. You see, this is where attempted exploitation of if orders goes awry. Laa-Laa waits for an attack to trigger her conditional for Smack Down, since nothing has yet come after the recent assault. Zephyr waits in the air, eager to dodge the Smack Down, but it doesn't come since he hasn't attacked her after. And as such, the two just awkwardly stand there, nothing happening.

Both enjoyed the easy rounds, Zephyr exiting his first third of health, and Laa-Laa below the midpoint. Ice should be able to take some more action. Lost to order.

Whip up a Hurricane, then give him a Razor Wind.

Weak answer.

Laa-Laa, retaliate with Smack Down in between attacks, then another Magic! Rock Climb to strike.

After the overlong time for waiting for any action, the two chuckle uncomfortably with sheepish grins, and then decide to continue. Zephyr flaps his powerful wings at an alarming rate, generating category 5 hurricane force winds in the blink of an eye, which actually do push the enormous Normal type back somewhat as the trees surrounding begin to groan and creak from the strain. It ends as it began, petering off into nothing, and Laa-Laa shakes her head and regains her composure, grabbing an upturned stone and hurling it up at the already lower Pidgeot. Although normally, the totally not made up on the spot adage is "the same trick doesn't work twice," the rock does smack down the large bird once again due to his cooldown from the massive attack he just used. Managing to keep himself from thumping to the ground, the Pidgeot begins to whip up another wind, this time being another one of the razor sharp variety, as the Snorlax continues to ignore the plentiful trees around her and summon a magical pillar to rock climb up once again. Due to the weakened state of Zephyr's wings and the pillars, the gust doesn't do quite as much as usual, but Laa-Laa likely wouldn't have cared much anyhow as she leaps from the precipice once more, flattening the raptor with her immense bulk. Backing off of him, she grins, but is inwardly concerned about her situation.

Zephyr has entered his final third, and will face a bit of immediate exhaustion before being good for two. Laa-Laa is approaching critical health, but is good for two. Rock should still be able to put out some usage if needed. Energy for Laa-Laa is also beginning to get low, pretty much to its own final third. Kush to order.

Good! Laa-Laa, you're done for today, come back and take a rest. ZoraKangaskhan, get back out there, loose an Icy Wind then use a narrow gauge Uproar.

Lost, you have a couple of options here. Pursuit might KO Snorlax, ending the round, but then I have the option of sending out Poliwrath or Electivire and basically typespamfisting you to death in short order. Kangaskhan is probably on low enough health that you could do the same, but this would require more energy and leave you even more vulnerable to said fisting. You could evade/counter Kanga's orders or you could use U Turn to get Noctowl back in. Other options exist too. Pick one you think a Gym Leader would make if the battle were winnable.

At this point, I'll take an eye for an eye.

The innumerable amounts of red flashes continue as Laa-Laa begins to disappear from the field of battle. Zephyr is not eager to see her go, however, and coats himself in a layer of dark energy and begins to fly in hot pursuit of his target. Diving at intense speeds, the Pidgeot crosses through the beam that is attached to the Snorlax, injuring the large creature greatly but leaving her alive as she returns to her ball. Replacing her appears ZoraKangaskhan once more, who instantly begins to retaliate as an icy wind blasts out of his mouth. Zephyr takes the breeze full on, slowing him down and leaving him battered. But ZK is not finished, sending a focused uproar of sound towards the bird, knocking it further down into its reserves. ZK grins as he feels victory close at hand, with Zephyr flapping gingerly.

ZK took no damage and is good for two, Ice being alright for now. Laa-Laa and Zephyr are both pretty deep into critical health, and Zephyr is good for two as well. Lost to order.

For a short round, a haiku:

The bird flaps his wings,
And the wind picks up, but lo,
Electricity.

Zephyr is unable to battle! Lost, please send Mystica back into play!

ZK is good for two, and has entered his final third of health. Electric is fine for now.

The world of weather wars comes back from the dead corpse of competitive Pokemon in Generation V as the sudden variety of huge amounts of meteorological events that occur in this small area. The two combatants waste no time as a twister is sent spinning from the Noctowl's wings, which the Kangaskhan endures with style as he uses the own static from the tornado against Mystica as he summons a lightning bolt, which comes down at a direct vertical before striking the Noctowl with a clap of thunder. As those winds die down, ZK just starts a new gale up as he unleashes a pure blizzard of ice, snow, and pure wind, as Mystica hoots loudly, causing another uproar. They both take their attacks with staunch determination, but Mystica is unable to weather the storm and falls, unconscious. ZoraKangaskhan grins, and in celebration finally climbs up one of the handily placed trees, squatting in the top of it, enjoying the vista before him.

Mystica is unable to battle! Kush is the winner!

Chuckling to himself, the veteran returns the happy Kangaskhan to his capsule, looking proudly at his belt of Pokemon and making a note to go and heal them before continuing on. He gives a salute to the one seeking to take his place, and disappears in the entwined foliage. The challenger looks on, sighing slightly as he shakes his head though definitely grateful for the experience, and also walks off, heading back to where he came.

Mercutio gains 4 KOs and 8 TP.
Lil'twick gains 4 TP.
Miror gains 8 SP.

Excellent match to both of you, this was really enjoyable to ref. That said, Kush established an early lead, his switching game was on point, and he just went from there, ending the match essentially two full Pokemon ahead. I'm not the best at the whole advice-at-the-end of the match thing, and Kush seems much better equipped for giving out pointers, so I'll leave it to him if he has any advice. Something that I'd mention though is that you ended the match with all of your three movers intact, which definitely could've evened things out at certain points, so that could be something to stay aware of. Other than that, if y'all need a ref at any point, I'm certainly willing to help out (if I have a slot of course lol). Thanks to both of you for the experience, and good luck in the future!

Good work, Zora, though three KOs is probably a bit greedy. Possibly a new personal best for me though.

So yes to quickly address the switching thing I've (barely) kept all three of my Pokémon alive, even though you used two birds and I used a Primeape, and I could have brought out an Electivire to mop up if I'd have wanted. You can run Normal without being a switch addict but you will probably want to improve on this.

Generally we've spoken about this over Skype but learn when to apply pressure and when to take an opportunity. Miror alludes to this. Normal is all about efficiency and timing. If you lack these, you will be easily defeated. We didn't use the arena that much but I used it more, which gave me an advantage. Normals are often not great against pure Fighters but bringing two birds is very much not the answer. Particularly against a monkey in an arena full of trees. Girafarig or a Fairy are probably worth looking at. Maybe some sig moves.

Rework your squad and take on a few challengers your own experience level?

Thanks Miror, great reffings!
