I really hope Weird al asked the artist of Blurred Lines of he could parodied the so g, the guy said no, then Weird Al said "You know you want it." and did it anyway. That's what Blurred Lines is all about anyway, "no means yes" and ignoring the clearly NOT blurred lines of consent.

>implying Blurred Lines is not a blatant satire of various misogynistic attitudes prevalent in much of pop music and our culture even if Robin Thicke probably isn't articulate enough to put it like that and probably didn't mean it to have so deep a meaning besides the blatant outlandishness of it all.
Point is, the song is a joke. With a big flashing neon sign that says so. I mean, c'mon. Have you seen the music video (which was, by the way, directed by a woman)? Of course you have. It's ludicrous and over the top. They have a topless chick dancing around a bunch of silver balloons that spell "Robin Thicke has a big dick". There are big red hashtags. "The way you grab me Must wanna get nasty" Obvious false conclusion. Is the joke, the woman is falsely treated as sex object. "You wanna hug me Hey, hey, hey What rhymes with hug me?" Handjob joke! Role is guy making false leap from simple physical contact to idea that sex is to be had. Again, woman falsely being treated as sex object, and a male dominated one at that. "That man is not your maker" Wait, what's that? Something that is literally the opposite of sexual misogyny. This is like basic female empowerment. Independence from the man. "OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you But you're an animal, baby, it's in your nature" Domestication of the girl being portrayed as negative. Animal metaphor being sexual (the song is very sexual, which is not necessarily misogynistic even if it often is), basic point of woman being sexually dominant and not a sex object for a guy. Her job is not just to service the man. "I know you want it" is the most well known line from the song, but it's hardly the most important one. "I hate these blurred lines" The lines are not blurred. The guy role saying this and the other misogynistic lines is an idiot as shown by other lines. It's not the most clever song in the world... or even close, but it's not meant to be taken as a misogynistic credo. I actually liked Blurred Lines. Catchy tune, sure, but also because I didn't take it seriously. You're not supposed to. Literally no part of this song is serious. It's a big over the top joke. |

Weird Al always asks the artists directly for their permission anyway and it's considered a high honor to have one of your songs parodied by him, so I doubt he'd have said no.

I hadn't been paying attention to the Iraq stuff, but I decided to read up on Isis and it made me laugh. The whole threatening to march on Rome and depose the Pope is both scary and hilarious to envision.

I can't take ISIS seriously no matter how hard I try. It's all Archer's fault.

In its original conception, it was where you would post things that society might say (whether in jest or in seriousness) that you would be going to Hell for laughing at. You could think of it as a black comedy thread.
Over time, it morphed into a thread where everyone shares the trending YouTube videos, animated gifs, image macros, etc. that they find on sites like Reddit. It's usually used when posting a separate thread for that image or video would be inappropriately spammy. If you can think of an Imgur upload that you would normally want to share with your Facebook friends or Twitter followers, this is more than likely the place to post it. But don't take my word for it: randomly select some pages and rummage through their contents. For my own random sample, we have pages 99, 67, and 42. Checking these out for myself, rediscovering some old gems. Like this one!

Another way to look at it is a Miscellaneous TO, without the random socializing.

My approach has always been to attempt topicality, although in some cases it's borderline. I definitely don't want this topic to turn into an actual TO, but it's also not common to see really sinister funnies in some places. Some, like BBB's Robin Williams joke, might even be more suited to another topic.
I also think this is the one topic where one can be misanthropic and not offend someone.

I agree that this thread is not meant to be a TO nor has it been a TO. But I think all that Kind was trying to convey in his "a TO minus the socializing" point was that this is a thread where people pop in to share the funnies they've found online. Whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiich it pretty much has been for the better part of the last three years.

Yeah. I think that it could be quite fun to create a new thread which allowed people like me to just post miscellaneous stuff and then swing this one back to its original purpose but I don't know if we need it as a culture any more. I was never really posting when it actually was a thread for off colour stuff.

For ages S Club 3 (Jo, Jon and Bradley) were doing the SU circuit, they came to my Uni a couple of times. Bradley is apparently a womanising twat lol.

Sign on to GTS. Make a deposit. Then, curious, search for Entei. See this:

So he's labeling the whole world as atheists because there is no way to get an Entei of that level. I really with GF would put checks on that stuff.

That's an event though and would therefore have a Classic ribbon making it untradable.

Peanuts was the forerunner of modern harem anime.
Charlie Brown is the typical shy, insecure beta but he has girls all around him lusting after his good-guy personality, including: -Peppermint Patty, the tomboy -Marcie, the glasses girl -Eudora, the hikikomori -Lucy, the tsundere -Sally, his little sister I also found it funny that Lucy's Wikipedia article is like ten times the length of Charlie Brown's any any other Peanuts character.
