Cascadia was made up of wonderfully different islands but none were as dangerous or digusting as Venom Island. It was filled with putrid lands so acidic they burnt the flesh of those who touched the soil. Many poison Pokemon called this place home and the waters that surrounded the island were so poisonous many Pokemon were wise enough to keep well away, Surfing here was not an option and so both trainers arrived by boat and made the trek to the Plague Swamp. Surrounded by rotting carcasses of what once were trees sat the Swamp filled with bubbling poisonous waters; one touch could literally melt a human's flesh. Both trainers were cautious in their approach and they were right to do so. There were several pieces of land and the arena was marked by a rock formation that had yet corroded away. The trainer boxes were on small pieces of land that were large enough for one person to stand on only. This arena had only just recently been discovered and chosen as an official battleground and as the referee stood on her small piece of loamy land she wondered why anyone would want to visit here. She was dressed for the area with protective boots and watertight clothing not wanting to suffer a nasty accident. Her shiny Weezing floated by her side breathing in the air with a happy smile, well at least he enjoyed it here.

The two trainers tread carefully along the pre-marked path to the arena and the referee waves to them not able to move from her spot.

"Um ... hi guys. I'm kinda stuck here so if you could make your way over the the trainer boxes, there is a safe path to each marked out and we can get the battle started. I hope you're using Poison Pokemon here as I'd fear for any other type unleashed in this rotten place. Lets go over the rules and get the battle started as quick as possible."

Arena: Venom Island's Plague Swamp: Deep in the putrid depths of the Plague Swamp on Venom Island in the Cascadia island chain, there is a relatively shallow area, measuring approximately 50m x 50m. Within that area, the swamp water is a mere 2 and a half feet deep, allowing Pokemon of moderate size to stand within the smelly goop, and smaller ones to swim within it (provided, of course, they are capable of swimming). There are five 3m x 3m flat rocks with a rough easy-grip surface dotted about the arena for non-swimming Pokemon to stand on. Any non Poison-type in the water has a slight chance of being poisoned by it (20% chance if they are in the water for more than ten consecutive seconds), or if hit by moves that involve the field's water (Surf, Whirlpool, etc; they have a 20% chance of poisoning). Between the poisonous water and smelly air, any poisoned Pokemon takes 50% more damage from the poisoning.

She allowed them time to prepare themselves whist retrieving a coin from her pocket. She assigned Missingno. Master to Heads and lilbluecorsola to Tails and gave it a quick flip: "Tails".
Once she was sure they understood the rules she went through the order of play:

– I need PM’s from both of you including your Pokemon, their stats, any healing items being declared, and your attacks for the first round (I am happy with up to 3 being used per round)
- I will then ref the first round.
- lilbluecorsola will then order their attacks for the next round.
- Missingno. Master then orders their attacks.
- I ref the round, and the next round attack orders switch and so on and so forth till we have a winner!

The first battle to be held in the new arena was about to get underway, and the arena's founder himself, the 22-year-old trainer named Keith, proudly strolled through the toxic swamp water. Incredulously, he wore the same clothes he always wore, instead of anything protective. Were his clothes simply specially tailored from protective material... or was there something else affording the trainer protection from the poisonous goop? Well, anyway, he strolled into the trainer's box on his end of the battlefield as his opponent, Jessica, a trainer he had the pleasure of facing before, called out her Swalot. It was with immense excitement and pride that Keith took a Poke Ball off his belt, enlarged it, and threw it. "Hebenon! I choose you! Go!" he shouted as the ball exploded open to unleash a Qwilfish into the waters. Hebenon was something of a celebrity in his own right- most trainers in Fizzytopia knew of this Qwilfish, mainly due to his wide variety of attacks. It might also have had something to do with the fact that he was one of the only Qwilfish anyone ever bothered to train in this land...

"Fish Qwilfish!" Hebenon declared as he puffed himself up slightly. Keith knew his Qwilfish very well- he was currently showing his willingness to fight, his determination to win, and his utter stubbornness that would not let him back down, no matter what.

"OK, let's get going, Hebenon!" Keith declared. "Start with a Rain Dance, then go for a Psywave, and follow up with Aqua Jet!"

OoC – In all the Park madness I completely forgot about this. ^^; Sorry.

Jessica held her breath as she squelched along the path, which sighed to each step of her heavy boots. The noxious fumes made her nauseous, and the roots of rotting wood clamoring to escape the toxic waters and cling desperately to the shore did nothing to help her stomach. Behind her shuffled a Swalot, who appeared unfazed by the smog. The girl coughed, feeling her throat start to instinctively itch as the image reminded her of the last time she stayed too long in a place like this…

Shaking her head, she pressed forward, coming face to face with Keith on the opposite side of the Swamp. Somehow, she wasn’t surprised to see him dressed rather lightly for the occasion. After all that had happened recently, all his “secrets” that were revealed to her, she wasn’t sure how to react when she met him. She settled for a smile though, hoping to show she didn’t think of him any differently. Not that he knew she knew a thing in the first place.

“Hey, Keith,” she called, “Good luck!”

She turned to Gumpy, eyeing his cumbersome clothes with disapproval. He nodded reluctantly, handing his trainer his hat and coat for enhanced mobility. They’d need all the help and haste they could get, for she had heard rumors of Keith’s Qwilfish, Hebenon, who was infamous for his amazing arsenal of Attacks. Fizzytopian law had recently forbidden the illegal use of TMs to force a Pokémon to learn Moves against its nature (considered cruel by Pokémon Ethical Treatment Association activists), and while the girl was intent on playing by the rules from now on, she understood others were not so keen to give up their past practice. In addition, being a Water-Type meant Hebenon would have a huge advantage in this environment. They’d have to be smart in their strategy if they wanted to win.

“All right, Gumpy, let’s start off by coating yourself in ACID ARMOR, and STOCKPILE some energy too for good measure. Then, send a SHOCK WAVE his way!”

Keith looked completely at home in the poisonous environment, he was clad in little more than his usual attire and the noxious gases or toxic liquids the swamp contained seemed not to bother him. He took his place in the trainer box taking in the environment once more before waiting for his opponent to arrive. Jess was a little more cautious and she was holding her breath as she carefully took it step by step to the arena. The referee shared a knowing look with her before both trainer's locked eyes. Keith sent out his infamous Qwilfish Hebanon who swam happily in the poisoned waters puffing up with pride at having being chosen for the battle. Jess' Pokemon of choice slowly made his way forward, Gumpy the Swalot decked out in his detective attire. He reluctantly gave it up reasoning that he didn't want it ruined in the battle and took his place. Once the referee saw that both Pokemon were ready her Weezing let loose a belch of Purple Poison Gas into the air in the shape of ... himself ... seriously! Anyway the battle had begun!

Hebanon was the faster of the two Pokemon and began to perform a strange Dance in the water hoping to summon some Rain. In fact the clouds seemed to respond to the dance and began to thicken and turn a nasty purple-grey. The referee looked a little concerned at what might rain down upon them and quickly threw protective umbrellas towards the two trainers; at least she had prepared for this. Gumpy meanwhile had waddled into the filth and began to absorb it coating himself in the Acid Armor greatly boosting his defences.

Hebanon shows one of his tricks early by using his Psywave, the blue rings flying towards Gumpy and striking him hard causing to moan in pain and hold his stump little arms to his head. The attack ends and he looks around completely disoriented to the environment and forgetting his orders! Hebanon looks drained however using a move completely alien to his species. He shakes off the fatigue and rushes forward with an Aqua Jet thumping into Gumpy's midriff and snapping him out of his stupor. He hears Jess calling out to him and remembers the last thing she said, this would hurt him right back! His body charges with electricity and he unleashes a Shock Wave at the Qwilfish who shrieks in pain as he's fried from the attack.

Suddenly drops of rain begin to fall the referee is quick to get her umbrella up wincing in pain as a blob land on her arm. The Acid Rain begins to fall, to any other type than poison this would be a double whammy! At least the umbrella's were acid-proof

Jessica winced as the opponent's mental waves collided with Gumpy, causing him to forget his second Move. Maybe it was a good thing that he didn't spend the extra energy though, as Hebenon aleady appeared weary from exerting such a foreign maneuver. A slight smile played onto Jessica's lips. Perhaps therein lay the secret to success.

The Qwilfish was no stranger to his second Attack however, which smacked straight into Gumpy's stomach. He grunted but did not groan nor give, the blow luckily softened by the slime he coated his body with earlier. Still, the foe might receive a boon as well, as the sky looked somewhat worrisome. Sure enough, silver droplets began to fall, sudden pain startling Jess as one landed on her skin, seeping into her system. She quickly drew up her hood, hoping it would suffice to block the rain as always. But it soaked easily through the cloth, even beginning to burn holes in places. Sighing, the girl stared at the blue-and-white umbrella Stacey had tossed to her, grimacing as she grudgingly gripped the handle and held the (in her opinion) horrible contraption above her head. She gulped, praying no freak accident would force her throat to impale on the tip. Or that lightning wouldn't strike. ...Mostly she was afraid of the former though, who knew why.

Fortunately her Swalot did not seem to mind the storm. If he was indifferent though, the marine creature they were facing was thrilled by the flood, playing in the polluted puddles. Not to mention the additional water narrowed Gumpy's margins of movements even more. Jessica bit her lip, deciding it best to proceed safely for now.

"If we're going to be absentminded, may as well get some benefit out of it. Use AMNESIA to boost your Special Defense as well, then SLAP some of that wet MUD at him. Finish by blowing SMOG to reduce his vision further."

Keith smirked with satisfaction as the acid rain started to fall. Though he lazily put up his umbrella, anyone watching might be under the impression that this was more to protect his hat than to protect himself. Indeed, had a glob of the acid rain really just hit his arm and slid off as though it were nothing, with Keith barely seeming to notice? Well, anyway, Keith was grinning as the weather changed. Acid rain was still rain, and Hebenon's Swift Swim was bound to come into play here. And after hearing the orders Jessica was giving to her Swalot, Keith knew that speed would be of the essence here. Oh, he was no dummy- he could very well see that Hebenon had used up a lot of energy in that Psywave. Still, there was no doubt that it was an effective maneuver. Even so, Keith thought it best to keep the unusual attacks to a minimum... for now, at least. Another Psywave would likely make for a decent last-ditch strategy should it come down to that...

"Taunt attack right now, Hebenon!" he called out. "Then blast it with your Hydro Pump, and follow up with a Thorns attack!"

Both trainers put up their umbrella's rather miserably as the Acid Rain begins to fall burning holes into the trees and plants ... rather then than their skin. Neither Pokemon were bothered by the weather, infact Hebanon was happily splashing in the poisoned waters feeling a speed boost due to his Swift Swim ability. Both trainers planned on playing safe this round and not exerting too much energy and the orders were given as the attention moved away from the weather to each other.

Gumpy begins to move but Hebanon was much faster now and he Taunts the Swalot making him halter in his Amnesia and narrow his eyes at the Qwilfish, what did he call him? Gumpy enraged by the Taunt quickly slings a Mud-Slap towards Hebanon who winces as it hits him right in the face reducing his accuracy. He shakes off the pain and blinking through his mud-covered eyes h can just about make out Gumpy and he launches a powerful Hydro Pump right at him pushing him back with the force powered by the rain.

Gumpy slowly moves forward again but he looks hurt, that water attack was really powerful! He breathes out a cloud of Smog that makes its way over to Hebanon and makes his eyes sting a little but doesn't inflict much damage. Hebanon counters with a barrage of Thorns that embed themselves into Gumpy's purple flesh making him wince as they cut in dealing a little damage. Gumpy looks a little less angry and a little more miserable with how he was faring in this battle.

Keith's satisfied smirk was turning into a full-blown grin, a change as rapid and noticeable as a Magikarp evolving into Gyarados. He was getting the upper hand in this fight. Hebenon was really crushing the opposition! Having noticed that, he did take note of several things- first, Hebenon's energy levels. Hebenon was expending a fairly large amount of energy on his attacks, could he take out Gumpy before wearing himself out? There was also the slight issue of accuracy- Hebenon's vision was slightly clouded by the Mud-Slap, but hopefully, that wouldn't be too big an issue. After a moment's consideration, Keith called out his orders.

"Hebenon, use Surf!" he shouted. "Then go for an Aqua Jet, and then use your Ice Beam!

Jessica hissed as she watched Hebenon hasten, having once again forgotten to factor in Abilities. She really needed to maintain those in mind more. Her only hope of HYDRO PUMP missing its mark was dashed as well, as the mud didn't manage to hamper his vision enough. Luck was truly not on her side lately. The smoke didn't seem to accomplish much besides slight stinging either, perhaps its effects were subdued by the fish's affinity for it. She frowned as in addition spikes insinuated into Gumpy's sides, settling smugly as they sapped away some of his health. Things were not looking good. Still, if the opponent's greatest asset was speed, theirs was stamina - and striking back.

"PROTECT against the SURF, then COUNTER that AQUA JET!" She paused, trying to judge the separation between their overall statuses and weigh her options. It didn't seem worth it to nullify the Qwilfish's pace at this point, although they had access to a canceler. Spending more time to raise stats seemed risky as well. Besides, she wasn't sure she'd get another chance like this, so she may as well take advantage of it. "Finally, make him feel your PAIN by SPLITting it with him!"

Gumpy had a very bad round with under health his health left but Hebanon had eaten in half of his energy supplies to deal that kind of damage. Jess was understandably worried about her Swalot but she had a plan, they could still win this. Keith was bubbling with excitement, he could feel victory within his grasp, and Hebanon shared this sentiment. So with these thoughts in his mind Hebanon summons a wave of water before him and sends the Surf right towards Gumpy. The Swalot is prepared however sets up a glowing blue Protect shield around him, the water splashing harmlessly upon it and around filled the swamp with foul poisonous liquid. Jess was lucky that the water was directed away from her as that would have been a rather nasty bath to have taken.

Hebanon dosn't look too impressed that his attack failed especially as he feels the drain of the move in his blood. Time to go for a quicker more direct attack. He churns some of the remaining water around him and shoots forth with his Aqua Jet striking Gumpy right in his abdomen. He didn't notice the maroon aura around the Swalots body though and he is Countered right back towards his trainer slamming into the ground and rolling to land at Keith's feet. Habanon rolls back into the water shaking off the pain of the attack, that was one impressive Counter. He breathes in ready to deal more pain and releases an Ice Beam that Gumpy has no Counter for, the beam hitting his right in the middle but not freezing his skin luckily.

He shivers a little against the sudden drop in temperature but creates a link between himself and Hebanon and starts to use his Pain Split to try and and even the health between them out but it would take a long while to achieve, and as this round ends Jess can only hope the attack would work, and hope that Gumpy doesn't lose his concentration.

Jessica surveyed the scene carefully. In terms of health, Hebenon was still well on top. However, his energy levels appeared to be declining rapidly. All things considered, one could say they were at a standstill. Any small step in either direction could tip the balance. While her calculations had been a bit off, she might still be able to salvage the situation. She could only hope that fortune would finally decide to favor her this round.

"Cover your ears, and just keep concentrating. Don't let anything he does distract you. Forget everything else, even try to clear your mind with AMNESIA if you can. When you're done, coat him with GASTRO ACID."

As Jessica made her orders known to the Swalot, Keith considered her orders for him to cover his ears. Taunt was going to be his choice for distracting the Swalot- a distraction would be crucial to stop the Pain Split from taking effect- and Taunt kinda relied on the opponent being able to hear the user.. He briefly considered trying to go for a quick knockout, but Hebenon was running a little low on energy- he very likely didn't have the juice to pull off another Psywave. And then he realized, distractions need not necessarily be heard...

"Hebenon! Use Brain Freeze!" Keith ordered. "Then trap it in a Whirlpool! Follow it up with a Hydro Pump, but only if you think you got enough energy left for one."

Things were looking bad for Gumpy, he was suffering from the attacks his vicious opponent, but Hebanon wasn't faring too well either. He has burnt through his energy supplies quickly, did he have enough energy to finish the job? If Gumpy could finish his Pain Split however the tide of the battle would turn in his favour. He was concentrating hard on maintaining his link with Hebanon who looked ready to attack. He breathes out a fresh wave of Brain Freeze particles that cross the distance and settle on Gumpy's skin before being absorbed, the effects wouldn't take effect until the beginning of the net round however, that was fortunate for the Swalot who maintained his intense concentration.

Hebanon looked a little concerned and so moves onto his next move, there was not much water around him since he used his surf sending it through the swamp so calling on more energy than he'd like, he creates a Whirlpool above his head and sends it right towards Gumpy. The Swalot is sat completely still as the water hits hit breaking on contact, too small in size to trap the much larger Pokemon. Hebanon looks pleased anyway but his eyes suddenly goes wide as the Pain Split robs him of his health, Gumpy had managed to execute it before the Whirlpool hit him, this was not good!

Hebanon was feeling drained and didn't feel he had the energy to use his Hydro Pump so he takes a break as Gumpy coats him with his Gasto Acid negating the effects of his Swift Swim ability, this round had not gone Hebanon's way.

Well, this sucked. Keith had failed to account for the fact that Brain Freeze's effects weren't immediate, and Pain Split was starting to do a number on him. On top of it all, the distinct lack of Hydro Pump told Keith that his Qwilfish was really running low on energy. Now starting to panic ever so slightly, Keith hurriedly went through all of Hebenon's moves in his head, trying to think of something that could help. What he thought might be their best option would be to put Gumpy to sleep, but if Hebenon couldn't get up a Hydro Pump, Keith sincerely doubted he had the energy for a Dark Void. He knew that their best hope was to try and remain on the defensive for the time being. Let Hebenon regain some energy while letting the Thorns and Brain Freeze do their stuff.

"Hebenon, no attacks this round," Keith ordered. "Just try and relax, regain a bit of energy. If you see an attack coming your way, dodge it, but otherwise, just stay still!"

Jessica grinned, feeling confidence boost. She should be careful though, not to let cockiness blind her this time. ...However, that didn't mean Gumpy couldn't gloat in his triumph. Besides, if the opponent wasn't going to put them to sleep, they may as well take advantage of the situation to help him "rest", so to speak.

"Let's show him some SWAGGER so he can't concentrate on relaxing or defending. Then, since apparently he's not going to attack unless ordered, let him know how bored you are by YAWNing right in his face. Get up close and personal so the rain doesn't interfere." She paused then, debating whether to attempt another AMNESIA in order to pre-empt the forgetfulness from BRAIN FREEZE. After two times failing though, it seemed appropriate to switch tactics and try the first again. "Finally, STOCKPILE some extra energy for protection." She crossed her fingers, figuring he'd probably need the enhanced padding in both departments in order to evenly counter Qwilfish's rising rage in the coming round.

Habanon was sweating from his exertion, he wouldn't last much longer if he kept up this pace and Keith could see this so orders him to take a break. The normally fierce Qwilfish is happy to oblige and he sits tight keeping a watchful eye on Gumpy. That probably wasn't a good idea as Jess has a plan to take advantage of the opening. Gumpy suddenly winces as a pain shoots through his head, the effects of the Brain Freeze finally hitting him. He shakes his head and blinks but fortunately his mind was still clear. Gumpy begins to show his Swagger moving back and forth looking like a sexy diva and rubbing it in Hebanon's face not only incensing him raising his attack power but confusing him too. He feels restless and looks around wondering what to do with himself.

Gumpy then takes his own break releasing a few Yawn bubbles that pop all over Hebanon suddenly making him tired and less pissed off. Gumpy then finishes off by Stockpiling some energy for later use as Hebanon falls asleep in the water.

The rain slows down and comes down to a stop as the round ends.

Jessica smirked as Hebenon gave in to Gumpy's temptation, becoming a sitting duck for somnolence. It seemed the only drawback to that round for them was that Gumpy's own mind finally succumbed to the frozen parasites, but fortunately managed to fight them off for now. She could only hope the meddlesome crystals wouldn't interfere in the future. In addition, Gumpy's own stamina was shortening. She'd have to be more careful from now on... Still, she rubbed her hands gleefully in anticipation of the victory feast to come.

"Use DREAM EATER for as long as you can. Got that? Just focus on draining his dreams and regaining health plus some energy if you can. If he wakes up, be prepared to try and dodge whatever he throws at you. See if you can squeeze another YAWN in as well. Otherwise, bon appetit!"

Keith facepalmed, taking this opportunity to mutter a few choice swearwords in Shuppet language under his breath. This was so not going their way. Confusion, sleep, and now on top of it, the Swalot was looking to regain some of its health by sucking it out of his Qwilfish. Something gleamed in Keith's eyes as he realized just how intense the battle was about to become.

"Come on, Hebenon, wake up!" Keith shouted, an urgency present in his voice that hadn't been there before, currently vowing to, once the battle was over, teach his Qwilfish Sleep Talk. "And use your Ice Beam attack! Come on, Hebenon!" Keith was hoping that the loudness of his orders might wake his Qwilfish up, but since when was it ever that easy?

Hebanon snoozes soundly in the small pool he lay in and Gumpy looked might hungry. He grins and begins to use his Dream Eater to chow down on some mighty tasty dreams feeling his own health improve. Hebanon stirs in his sleep but doesn't wake much to Keith's distress.

Gumpy uses Dream Eater once more and Hebanon winces in pain before lying completely still. The referee lowers her umbrella and send her shiny Weezing over to check him out. The Weezing cackles at the fact that Hebanon was KO'd and floats back over to his trainer who chastises him.

"Hebanon is unable to battle, Gumpy and Jess are the winners!"

Commiserations to Missingno. Master and Hebanon, you started off so well despite the large energy use. Your strategy was sound and you showed a good use of Hebanon's ability. It was just unfortunate that Pain Split followed by Yawn and Dream Eater were his undoing. Very good effort though. Hebanon receives 1 XP for participating in the battle.

Jessica crossed her fingers and toes, despite the difficulty presented by her thick boots. When Weezing delivered the victory verdict for their side, she released and nearly wept with joy. In fact had it not been for the ref's warning she would've run straight out into the noxious water to give Gumpy a great big hug. Realizing the rain was now gone, she settled for gladly tossing aside the death trap instead and giving her pal a thumbs-up, ignoring the holes on her gray sweater. (She was due for a change anyway.)

Gumpy grinned and shuffled proudly back to Jess, holding his arms out for his precious prize. She withheld however, wrinkling her nose at the smell. Though she still would've liked to embrace him, he definitely needed a bath first. He pointed at the detective clothes she was carrying though, and she rolled her eyes as she realized his meaning, shaking her head. No, he couldn't have those back yet either. Not until he was clean, anyway.

Calling over to Keith and Qwilfish, she congratulated them on a battle well-fought. They'd be ready for a rematch anytime.

Keith groaned as Hebenon failed to wake up, little though he had actually believed that his loud voice would've worked, and sure enough, Gumpy's Dream Eater proved to be the finishing blow. As Hebenon slowly regained consciousness and realized what happened, he glumly swam back over to Keith, who picked the Qwilfish up, making sure to not touch his poisonous spikes, and ignoring the sludge dripping off him altogether.

"Hebenon, don't let this get you down, buddy," Keith reassured his Qwilfish. "You were great out there. I defy any other Qwilfish to do as well as you did today. I'm proud of you."

"Qwilfish fish," replied Hebenon, betraying a small smile. Keith grinned back, then returned Hebenon to his Poke Ball.

"Good battle, Jessica," Keith replied as his opponent congratulated them on a good match. "We'll have to do this again sometime."
