Beginner Trainer Battle: Gemini Spark vs. Missingno. Master

Even though winter has commenced and the cold weather had slowly made its way into Fizzytopia its New Fairground was still packed with people trying to get their share of the rides before it shut for the Winter. The rides were still in full swing and many more people crowded around the speciality hot food stands for something to warm their tummies. There was a poster that promised a fireworks display and many people were chattering excitedly about it.

The two trainers slowly approach the arena stopping every now and then to take in the atmosphere of the fairground along the way. They were wrapped up for the cold but still had smiles on their faces, they were looking forward to this battle. They reached the arena and noticed the referee in a Mismagius-stlye Halloween outfit ... she obviously didn't realise that Halloween was over but neither said anything about it ... best not to. She pulled both trainers inside and they noticed that all the seats were already filled and the audience applaud their arrival. The referee winks at them and holds a microphone to her lips.

"Welcome to one and all to this Bonfire Night Celebration battle" Large cheers follow the announcement and the referee grins. "We have two young men ready to battle their Pokemon for your entertainment and to prove which is the better ... there's sure to be fireworks!"

The crowd roar with applause ready for the battle to begin.

Arena: Fizzytopia's New Fairground: The rides and game stands aren't the only attractions here at the Fairgrounds, Trainers of all ages are welcome to pitch their Pokemon against each other in front of a bedazzled crowd! After all, what else draws a crowd and boosts ticket sales better than a good Pokemon battle? A hard 50m x 50m, clay arena has been cheaply sculpted somewhere near the center of the Fairgrounds, where it has been surrounded by a high, hard plastic fence covered in bright flashing lights, mostly to keep excited kids from running onto the field.

She allowed them time to prepare themselves whist retrieving a coin from her pocket. She assigned Gemini Spark to Heads and Missingno. Master to Tails and gave it a quick flip: "Tails".
Once she was sure they understood the rules she went through the order of play:

– I need PM’s from both of you including your Pokemon, their stats, any healing items being declared, and your attacks for the first round (I am happy with up to 3 being used per round)
- I will then ref the first round.
- Missingno. Master will then order their attacks for the next round.
- Gemini Spark then orders their attacks.
- I ref the round, and the next round attack orders switch and so on and so forth till we have a winner!

The new fairground... Keith could honestly say that this was a different experience from the abandoned arena where most of the spectators were specters. Loud, noisy, bright, packed with the living... He took it all in his stride as he entered the arena, with three Pokemon accompanying him. On his left shoulder sat a Meowth, curiously glancing around at the crowd. On his right shoulder, the Weedle named Hermione, eager to see a battle for the first time. And finally, the brave warrior of a bug, Scorpius the Skorupi, who in his excitement at the prospect of being in another battle, was actually scuttling ahead of Keith, leading the way into the arena. Grinning, Scorpius waved his stingers at the screaming fans, and then focused his eyes on Keith's opponent and friend, Hyrem, and more importantly, the Skarmory he was to go up against. A poor type matchup for sure, but Scorpius loved a good challenge. He was gonna prove he wasn't all talk, damn it!

"All right," grinned Keith as the time came to begin the battle. "Scorpius, let's do this! Leer attack, as close as you can get! Then hit him with two Night Slashes!

Bio: After having a talk with Marion about her latest hatch, a Skarmory, Hyrem ultimately gave in to his instincts and took the Armor Bird into his own team. Icarus is best described as an inciter. He loves swooping in either to fire an insult towards Sarkhan and Amethyst or to toy with them other ways. Also, since he's the only Pokemon on Hyrem's team so far who can fly AND able to carry Hyrem long distances, he loves rubbing it in everyone's faces by doing aerial acrobatic tricks and stunts. All of this trolling and showboating eventually results in him getting a little too cocky which inevitably results in him getting knocked down a peg or two by his reptilian teammates. But, when times are dire and it comes right down to it, Icarus has a heart of silver. If he sees one of his friends in trouble, woe be to the oppressor that fails to hide from the metallic glimmer and sharp senses of this Skarmory!

Hyrem had to shield his eyes from all the bright lights shining on them, but a battle in the fairground was definitely a fun idea. Even better, this battle was going to be against Keith, a good friend of his. He waved to the crowd sporting a smile before casting a glance at the referee... who was wearing a Mismagius cosplay. Uh, doesn't she know Halloween's over? he thought while sweatdropping. ...Uh, good question, Hyrem, but it's probably best to ask her later on. Maybe she'll be at the bar after this? Anyway, he then turned to his opponent. "Hey Keith, good luck to you! No telling who could win this one! All right, Icarus, come on out!"

A silver-colored condor with metallic red wings came out of his Blue Cyber Ball flashing his pristine wings and screeching: "Skaaaaa!" to see if he could elicit some reactions from the audience. What a ham! "Hey, Icarus, you can show off to the crowd after the match is done, but right now it's time to sync up and battle, so focus!" Hyrem orders. The Skarmory rolled his eyes and folded his wings back, then stomped his foot to signal he was ready for orders.

"Okay, so let's start off with a Taunt to lock him out of any stat-boosting moves he might try, then give 'im a Leer before Pecking away at his health!"

Both trainers took their place in their trainer boxes after their announcement in the battle. Both were excited to battle one another, battling close friends was always good fun. Keith sent out his Scorupi Skorpius whilst his little Meowth and Weedle watched from his shoulders keen to learn. For Hyrem it was his metallic Skarmory called Icarus. It looked as though Keith was at a disadvantage but who knows what tricks his Pokemon had up his sleeves. With both trainers and their Pokemon ready the referee raised the microphone to her lips again.

"Let's get this battle started," the crowd cheer and both Pokemon move into action as one.

Skorpius begins by scuttling closer to Icarus preparing to Leer him but he hears a horrid Taunt full of such accusations he's infuriated and goes on the attack. He gets in close and rakes a Night Slash down the birds tough exterior scoring a critical hit. Icarus winces but due to his typing doesn't take too much damage. The Skarmory lowers his gaze down and Leers at Skorpius making him gulp and hesitate whilst lowering his defences. With the little bug at his mercy Icarus jabs his sharp beak into his face with a hard Peck making Skorpius shriek and back off blinking and hoping there wasn't any blood drawn.

He was still quite peeved but his orders were to attack and so he does so lashing out with a second Night Slash causing small damage again. The crowd cheer on the two competitors as the first round comes to an end.

Keith groaned as Scorpius succumbed to the aluminum avian's taunts and ignored the order to Leer. Still, his Night Slashes seemed to be making a decent dent in the Skarmory's steel skin. They were off to a decent start for sure.

"Dang," Meowth remarked. "Dat Skorupi's sure got guts. I don't tink I could take on dat big bird out dere like dat."

Keith nodded at this while Hermione intently watched the battle unfold. "Oh, yes, Meowth," Keith said matter-of-factly. "You're going to learn very quickly that Scorpius loves battling, and he won't back down from any opponent, no matter how big the disadvantage may seem."

"'May seem'?" Meowth repeated. "Poison and Bug vs. Steel and Flying, and you don't call dat a disadvantage?"

"Scorpius has a few tricks up his sleeve," Keith assured Meowth. "You'll see later on in the battle. Alright, Scorpius!" he added loudly. The Taunt at least seemed to have worn off, so perhaps Scorpius would be able to pull off a little stat altering. "Leer right back at him! Then use Cut, and follow up with Night Slash!"

Hyrem was certainly satisfied with how Icarus was doing. Scorpius may have wanted to Leer, but Icarus' Taunt wasn't something to be ignored, so the Skorupi started Night Slashing at the Skamory, the first one finding a chink in Icarus' armor and giving them a health advantage to start off with, but Hyrem and Icarus would soon prove they were a force to be reckoned with.

"OK, so let's look this guy up," Hyrem said, bring out Dexelle to scan the Bug-type:

Skorupi, the Scorpion Pokemon. Skorupi live in deserts and burrow under the sand to wait for prey. They are extremely patient and can go for an entire year without food. Once prey comes close, however, they strike with their tail claw, holding on with a strong grip until the neurotoxins injected by the claws paralyze the victim so it can be leisurely consumed.

"Man, what a cool Pokemon!" Hyrem noted. "Until I get one for myself, I'll just have to settle with battling yours, I guess, huh Keith? Okay, Icarus, you use Leer too and see which is better, then use Aerial Ace to try and outmatch Scorpius' Cut attack and Sky Drop to see if you can stop his Night Slash! We've got a type advantage, so let's press it!"

The first round had been pretty even despite the typings of both Pokemon, and the crowd appeared to enjoy it too. Hyrem scans Scorpius with his Pokedex and realises that Skorupi are really cool Pokemon, he might have to try and obtain one of his own one day. Keith's Meowth can see that his team-mate is at a disadvantage and is more than happy to inform his trainer about this. Keith wasn't worries however, he had a few tricks up his sleeves.

Both Pokemon go to Leer at one another but Scorpius is quicker and Icarus looks hesitant, he didn't expect to get such a fight from the little bug. Scorpius then follows this up by scuttling over to Icarus and rakes a claw down his hard hide with a Cut snapping the bird out of his stupor. He flies up into the air with the crowd following his every move. Scorpius looks concerned now as Icarus circles him before diving back down with an Aerial Ace. Scorpius screams in pain and goes skidding along the ground. Before he can recover Icarus grabs onto Scorpius and flies back into the air preparing his next move. The little bug isn't going to lie back and take this and so claws at the Skarmory with his Night Slash. Icarus shakes off the pain and throws Scorpius back down to the ground with his Sky Drop the bug landing with a sickening crunch. The crowd gasp and wonder if he was alright but he slowly gets back to his feet looking battered but still in the fight.

Hyrem had to give the gutsy little bug some credit; it was pretty scrappy. Seeing Scorpius get his Leer in faster, Icarus held back which allowed the Skorupi the opportunity to deal a Cut to the Skarmory. Fortunately, it didn't do much damage, and Icarus was able to refocus and give the audience an Aerial show before Acing the finish with a lightning-fast attack on Scorpius. Oh, but he wasn't done yet! He then proceeds to turn back around and grab Scorpius with his talons before carrying him into the Sky. Despite taking another Night Slash from the scorpion, Icarus is able to throw Scorpius back down with such a force that the Drop to the ground dealt the Bug-type a lot of damage. Everyone knew who had the advantage now.

"Dang, Sky Drop is powerful!" Hyrem said with some sympathy towards their opponent. "Good thing Scorpius is okay... But we can't let up! Icarus, use Aerial Ace again, then a couple more Peck attacks! But watch out for any ranged attacks! If you see one coming, substitute the move you'd normally use with a Dragonbreath to try and counter it!" Hyrem knew that if Keith and Scorpius had any tricks up their sleeves they'd likely use them in the next volley of attacks, so he and Icarus had to be ready for anything!

Keith could only look on in horror as Icarus dropped his Skorupi from a great height, and groaned quietly at the sound of the sickening crunch. Meowth looked unnerved as well, but Hermione let out an audible gasp, the little Weedle's eyes fixed on Scorpius. Then, to Keith's great relief, Scorpius got back up, and was now looking even more eager to fight than before, if that was even possible. The Skorupi had definitely found a worthy adversary, and damn, was he enjoying this! Keith knew that if they were going to unleash their secret weapon, now would be the time to do so.

"Let's win this, Scorpius!" he shouted. "Wait until Icarus is too close to pull out of its Aerial Ace, and give it a taste of your Flamethrower attack! Then Leer at it and give it a Night Slash!"

"Flametrower?!" Meowth exclaimed in surprise. "What da- Youse is tellin' me dat Skorupi can use Flametrower?!"

"Told you Scorpius had a trick or two up his sleeve," grinned Keith.

"Weeeedle," Hermione remarked, looking curious and excited at the thought of seeing a Skorupi breathe fire.

Hyrem was impressed with his own Pokemon's powers and planned to exploit Scorpius' weaknesses ... but Keith has a plan. His little Skorupi has a trick up his sleeves, one that could turn the tide in this battle. The crowd watch anxiously as Icarus makes his next move and the steel bird takes to the skies once more circling Scorpius whilst the bug watched his movement. He tapped into the small amount of fire energies he carried within and prepared his own countermeasure. Icarus dives in with his Aerial Ace and Scorpius finishes charging up his Flamethrower but the Skarmory catches Scorpius from an angle he wasn't expecting making him misfire his flame attack sending it into the sky as he slides along the ground from the super-effective hit.

This was not looking good for the little bug but the crowd applaud the efforts of Pokemon and the show they were putting on. Icarus caws in approval, he was feeling it, he was all over this Skorupi like a rash. He dives back in and Pecks Scorpius hard in the face making him wince in pain. He manages to get off a Leer and with the blood running down his face it makes the move more effective in startling Icarus, halting his next attack. Scorpius is shaking in pain and from exhaustion but he uses another Night Slash hoping for a critical hit but luck was not on his side today.

This was it. They were finished. Keith groaned to himself as Scorpius's one and only hope at defeating this aluminum avian missed completely.

"Dis doesn't look too good," Meowth remarked quietly. Hermione, on the other hand, was actually trembling, worry and concern clear in her beady little eyes as she looked on at Scorpius. The little Skorupi was looking considerably battered and weary, exhausted and injured, but the look in his eyes was all Keith needed to see to know that he wasn't going to give in. Even if Scorpius was destined to fail in this battle, he was determined to at least go down fighting. Keith knew this, too. He knew his Skorupi very well, and knew that surrender, appealing though the idea seemed at the moment, was out of the question.

"Give it all you got, Scorpius," Keith said, his own determination showing in his voice. "Even if you go down, it won't be without a fight. Show Icarus what you're really made of, give it your Night Slash! As many as you can muster!" Scorpius glanced back at Keith and grinned, thankful to have a trainer who truly understood him.

"Weeeedle," Hermione whimpered quietly, as if pleading Scorpius to give up before he takes any more unnecessary damage.

"He'll be OK, Hermione," Keith said quietly, hoping against hope that he wasn't about to be made a liar.

This next matchup was surely critical to who would win. As Icarus came in for another Aerial Ace, Scorpius was charging up a Flamethrower! Oh no, Icarus is too close, he won't be able to see it in time to block with Dragonbreath! Hyrem thought, conveying a look of concern on his face. But Icarus did see it coming. In fact, having seen Scorpius' display of the Fire attack earlier at the bar, he could see it coming a mile away and was able to deliver an uppercut-like blow to the Bug-type with his wing so that the stream of flames was sent shooting into the sky as Scorpius skidded along the ground.

That was perfect! Hyrem was very impressed with his Pokemon, and he knew in his heart that maneuver clinched the battle for them since Scorpius wasn't going to have enough energy for a second Flamethrower. Icarus bathed in the nearly undivided attention the crowd was giving him before continuing to Peck away at the scorpion's chitin, though one last defiant Leer from the bug stopped him from using another Peck attack, which allowed him to use Night Slash again, but, short of a critical hit, it wasn't going to do much damage.

"All right, Icarus! Looks like you've got plenty of energy, so let's finish him off!" Hyrem said excitedly. "Triple Aerial Ace, if you can, but if you think you're running out of Flying energy, use the rest of it on Peck attacks instead before going into Iron Head!" Hyrem again had to appreciate the spunk of the little Skorupi, but a type advantage was a type advantage, and it's best to exploit that if you can, am I right?

Keith had nearly given up after his trump card failed, his Pokemon however had not. Scorpius had a fire burning in his eyes, he would go down fighting no matter what. Hyrem was impressed with his Pokemon's abilities in this battle, he had shown quick thinking and used his advantages well. The crowd were enjoying the battle even if it was a bit one sided. Scorpius gives a little screech as he leaps towards Icarus with his Night Slash leaving a small scratch along his metal body. He shakes the pain off easily and takes to the air circling Scorpius looking for that sweet weak spot. He spots it and dives back in with another Aerial Ace slamming into Scorpius finishing him off before he could land another hit.

The referee watches intently and raises her flag towards Hyrem.

"Scorpius is unable to battle, Icarus and Hyrem are the winners!" The crowd applaud politely what was a quick one sided battle.

Congratulations to Gemini Spark and Icarus. From the start it was easy to see that you were going to win this battle, with the type advantage and resistances to all of Scorpius' attacks. It was going to be very hard for him to overcome that even with a Flamethrower. You capitalised on your advantage well however.

You tried your best in the situation however I feel whatever strategy you may have used would have still struggled against the many disadvantages you had. Good effort though. Keith sighed as the Skarmory dealt the final blow. He knew it had been coming, but that didn't make it any easier to see Scorpius succumb to the enemy's attacks. He walked onto the field and scooped the Skorupi into his arms, where he feebly stirred, opening his eyes, at which point Keith swore he could've heard a sigh of relief from the Weedle on his shoulder. At that moment, Hermione crawled down to Scorpius.

"Oh... I... You- you were very brave out there," Hermione said to Scorpius, blushing a little bit. "I... I never saw battling quite like that before..."

"Heh... thanks," Scorpius replied weakly, somehow seeming to particularly enjoy Hermione's kind words, more than he would appreciate praise usually. He then turned and locked eyes with the victorious Icarus, and the look he gave him could only mean one thing; Scorpius was intent on a rematch at some point.

"Good battle," Keith smiled as he shook Hyrem's hand. "Pretty sure Scorpius is gonna insist on a rematch at some point, but I think we're gonna try and get in some more training first."

Darned if Scorpius didn't go down without swinging one last Night Slash at Icarus, but the outcome proved to be inevitable as it only took one more Aerial Ace to bring the little guy down. "Haha, we did it, Icarus!" Hyrem cheered before hugging his Skarmory's neck after he touched back down to the ground. "You know, this is the first battle I've won against a trainer, and I'm glad you got to help me win it!" he said proudly. Now if only we can do something about your ego... the thought soon nagged his mind as the Skarmory cawed loud enough for the whole audience to hear:

"Oh yeah, that's how it gets done! In just a moment, I will grace you with a flight show even better than what I displayed in that spectacle of a battle you feasted your eyes on earlier! But first! I want a word with my opponent."

Hyrem and Icarus soon approach Keith, his fallen Skorupi, and his other Pokemon, and Hyrem comes close to Scorpius. "Hey, you okay, little guy? I just want you to know that I like your gutsy battling and that you're a really good reason I want a Skorupi of my own someday. Great job out there!" He then looks up at Keith and gives him a handshake. "Can't wait for another match against him, especially once he gets some more cool moves!"

Then it was Icarus' turn: "Good effort out there, little man, you just needed something other than... eww, Flamethrower, still gives me the creeps, I'm glad I could counter it the way I did... anyway, you just needed some other attacks to keep me busy. And if you were a Drapion... yeesh, I hate to think about that right now. Call me up again once you get stronger because I'll always be ready!" And with that, he took flight once again, performing loop-de-loops, aerial twists, all kinds of tricks. "YAHOO! Sorry to keep you waiting, lady birds, but the Silver Lining to whatever dark cloud you may have is here!" he squawked proudly and happily.

"Ehehehe, you just know he wouldn't be doing this if he lost!" Hyrem chuckled nervously.
