Arena Damage

So. I recall this being brought up long, long ago in a battle. However, as it was brandan VS Rangeet, reffed by Zora, no one really cared. However, I think it deserves exploration.

Just what qualifies for elemental damage?

For example, if you throw a rock with Psychuck, does it count as a rock-type attack? Likewise, what about if, say, the arena had magma? I can see a grass-type taking more damage than normal from being thrown in magma, but I can't see a water-type taking less damage than normal. Thoughts?

Personally, I ref rock type attacks as being charged with rock type energy. Thus, using Pdychic to throw a rock does not deal rock type damage. Magma probaly ounts as fire typed.

No glow, no go is a good rule to follow.

Though if it's like lava, then obviously it's gonna be Fire-typed.

While I normally agree with no glow, no go, what about Rock Throw, then?

Also, on lava dealing fire damage, does that mean a Vaporeon would take less damage than a Clefairy from being thrown into it?

I think there's a few special rules regarding lava and stuff. I think the same applies to ice. A good bit of ice type attacks don't involve any glow. Then again I'm one of the few people here that thinks Vine Whip and stuff shouldn't be XX so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Yeah, this is what I've been thinking about. Where do you draw the line, for these kind of things? Using Lava again, Water-types don't seem like they would take less damage, but I'd think Grass-types would take more damage, and Fire-types are, well, Immune to Lava damage or something.

Agree with this, although "being thrown into lava" is an extreme example, as most non-fire/ghosts are in the "totally fucked" range as it is

Ghosts wat? If they're solid they'll take damage due to OH FUCK LAVA, if they're ethereal/gaseous they'll take damage from the heat like a heat wave, except way huger.
