You bravely took a step forward, but that bravery faded fast. What were you getting yourself into? You had no idea what this event, seemingly random, truly meant. The Staryu was unaffected, and tottered ahead, stopping momentarily when it noticed you weren’t following. This inspired you to keep going, and the two of you approached the area of interest with caution.

You were glad you were wearing glasses. The dust that was being whipped up flew right towards you, tiny rocks pelting your face. As you got to the center of the vortex, the dust cleared. It seems you arrived in the eye of the dust storm. You took off your glasses to clear them of the dust, temporarily unable to focus on anything in front of you. You could see, however, the bright red light of your Staryu light up once more. As you readjusted the frames on your face, you noticed the Pokemon was prodding at a mound of dirt. Though it could probably clear the dirt away with some kind of attack, it seemed set on only using one of its five limbs to carefully push the dirt aside. You watched intently as it worked, wondering if you could discover something more about this strange Pokemon in order to bond closer with it. The light of the gem faded once again as it moved away from the now much smaller mound of dirt. A rolled-up scrap of paper lay in the middle of the mound, uncovered almost completely by Staryu. The Pokemon waited expectantly for a reaction, or maybe praise, for its discovery.
Fate works in mysterious ways. For all its lack of communication, it turned out the Staryu was surprisingly curious - and intelligent too. The way it inspected and approached the newly formed pile of dust at the center of the vortex revealed a very interesting and unexpected [i]Analytic[/il]al mindset, which made the quiet starfish ten times more interesting in the Professor's eyes.

Maybe I just ened to keep prodding it, pushing it to act? Who knows how knowledgeable this creature truly is?

He knew he was getting ahead of himself and possibly setting himself up for disappointment down the line, but it was hard not to feel excited ath this sudden revelation. As a man of science, he needed all the help he could get in his research - and if Staryu turned out to be not only a profficient Psychic but intelligent at the same time, it could prove a most invaluable ally. The first impression was already positive, with it carefully unearthing quite the little surprise from beneath the sand with all the expertise of a veteran archaelogist.

"How did you know it was there?... Well done Staryu, remarkable indeed!"

It wasn't just the ample amount of studies published on the matter that made Rorik praise the Water-Type - on this particular instance, he didn't need literature to tell him he should be proud of his accidental partner.
Dropping to one knee, his eyes glimmering with excitement, Professor Pine picked up the piece of paper and ever-so-carefully unrolled it, afraid it might crumble in his fingers but at the same time anxious to read its contents...
