Romant-sous-Bois

Romant-sous-Bois

Nestled deep in the woods lies a grove of trees whose leaves oddly keep their autumnal colors year round. A conspicuous pile of leaves hides the entrance to a clustered canopy of trees serving as a Secret Base. It is said on full, moonlit nights, fairy rings appear around the area.

The base opens up to a spacious room that has the faint smell of cinnamon. The room seems unfinished, with Poke Dolls strewn about and still-unpacked boxes. A ladder in the corner of the room leads up to the second floor.

Another spacious room, albeit more lived-in. A vintage Snorlax beanbag rests comfortably in the corner. An old video game console is hooked up to the TV. There's a small kitchen that somehow has a gas stove and running water.

Athena and her Pokemon frequent the base often. She welcomes anyone, even if she doesn't know you. If you're not greeted at the door, you can probably find her upstairs playing "Hey You, Pikachu!", resorting to yelling when the virtual Mouse Pokemon doesn't listen to her. The orange and red leaves remind her of home.

How is this even possible?

Seiko stared in confusion at the lumbering grove of golden-amber trees before her. She wouldn't believe such a thing were possible at the this time of year if she wasn't seeing it with her own two eyes. She somehow doubted it was a trick of the light or a trickster Pokemon messing with her mind.

Normally, Seiko would have continued on her way. But the weather was particularly favorable today, and she was feeling, well, adventurous! This was something that required further investigation.

Steam floated upward past Athena's face as she poured hot water over a tea bag in a ceramic mug. She added honey and lemon, stirring the tea gently with a spoon before she carefully picked the cup up and brought it to a makeshift table she had made with a cardboard box and some spare cushions. Her Mawile, Eclair, sat on the other side of the table, looking impatient. Red eyes watched as her trainer unwrapped two pieces of blue candy.

"Ok, ready Eclair?" Athena asked her Pokemon, who was now trying to reach across the table to grab the candy out of her hand. She handed her one piece at a time, and the Mawile excitedly popped them into her mouth. "It's not as great as battling, but it's fun to gain some levels, right?" Eclair nodded her head as she chewed the last piece. The trainer scrolled through a page on her phone that contained information about the Steel and Fairy type sitting in front of her.

"So I think you're supposed to learn a new move...?" She looked up at her partner, trying to see if the addition of three levels had any effect. Eclair looked down, not answering her trainer. "Eclair?" Athena looked worried as her Pokemon turned away from her. "Eclair? Do you not feel well? Was there something wrong with the candies?!" The Pokemon slowly lifted her face, revealing tears streaming from her eyes. Athena, worried, rushed to her Pokemon's side.

"What's wrong 'Clair!" She pulled the Mawile into a hug, starting to feel panicked. Athena grabbed her phone and frantically searched the page for any information about Mawile having bad reactions to Rare Candy. Suddenly, she felt Eclair reach into the pocket of her sweatshirt and take something out. She pulled away from her trainer and fled across the room, happily popping the candy she had stole into her mouth. Athena found what she was looking for, and looked angrily back at Eclair, who was now buckled over laughing.

"Go, Aiolia!"

The beacon of white light gave way to a set of fours paws, round face, and two large eyes of a young Litleo.

Seiko pumped her fists. "Up and at 'em, boy. I need your winning detection skills to help me get to the bottom of this," she indicated the densely-canopied grove of oranges, reds, and yellows.

The Litleo nodded, instantly darting into the underbrush and scattering foliage in his wake. Aha! A lead!

morningstar 06-28-2017 10:37 PM

CRUNCH. A leaf crackled satisfying under the small, yellow foot of Athena's Scraggy Monte. The young lizard Pokemon had taken it upon himself to find the crunchiest leaves around the base, and crush them like a giant monster destroying an entire town. He had also been picking up the prettiest leaves and tucking them safely into his pants-like skin. He spotted a crimson leaf that had just gently fallen to the ground. He excitedly waddled over to his new find and reached to pick it up.

CRUNCH. This time it wasn't Monte's doing, but a Pokemon that had suddenly appeared. Startled, the Scraggy fell backward, his collected leaves scattering across the ground. He sat up to find himself face to face with the Litleo.

"Scrag!" He greeted, and placed a small hand on the Litleo's nose, giving it a soft pat.

Seiko arrived at the scene in time to witness her companion startle at the Shedding Pokemon's antics. She blinked owlishly before struggling to suppress a chuckle.

"Aiol--hello there? Sorry to interrupt, but I take it you're from around here, yes? Do you belong to someone?" Seiko didn't know what she was thinking; there was no telling whether or not a Pokemon she just met would feel inclined to answer her inquiry. What if it had ulterior motives?

Monte stared blankly at the trainer that had just appeared. A dumb-looking grin spread on his face. He grabbed the shed-skin around his legs and pulled it up, letting it snap as it fell back down to exactly where it had started. With no explanation for this behavior, he ran off in the opposite direction you came.

He stopped in between two trees, and started to move a large pile of leaves to the side, revealing an opening just large enough for a person to crawl through. The Scraggy pulled his shed-skin up once again, a grin still plastered on his face as he looked at the trainer and her Litleo.
