UPN PASBL: Shuckle vs. Mozz (Whoa, Copy refs!)
Hey there lords and ladies and assorted genderqueer rulers of the UPN PASBL. Copy's reffing again! Whoa! And his first match getting him back into reffing will be one between Shuckle, a person, and Mozz, also a person!

3 v 3
Equiall Mozz (whatever that means!)
48 Hour DQ I guess?

And the stage choice is mine (whoa WHOA) which is cool so... how about the ZERO GRAVITY CHAMBER!

Gut: Ah! How exciting!
Tjeka: ...

Zero-Gravity chamber (Indoor. Advanced Arena for Indoor Battles): If you've ever read Ender's Game, then you'll probably have a good idea of what this arena looks like. It's a large transparent sphere floating in space (or a recreation, like X-Rok's Bolse Defense Satellite arena), with a diameter of the length of a football field (so in other words, about a few hundred feet/hundred meters). There is no gravity in the arena, so Newton's Third Law ("For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction") becomes very obvious over the course of the battle. Moving throughout the arena without gravity will make it slow going for most Pokémon, since moving for most will consist of flailing their limbs. To add to the fun, at the ref's discretion, there may be a number of Snorlax-sized asteroids in the arena, which Pokémon can use for defense or propulsion.

The asteroids ARE present in this Zero Gravity chamber! Additionally, I am joined for this reffing by Gut the Diglett and Tjeka the Beedrill!

Mozz with the squad! I think? Go!

Mozz 07-25-2013 09:10 PM

Not to be a dick, but can we have a gravity-influenced arena? :202:

Copygoo 07-25-2013 09:27 PM

No problem! I had a feeling that was going to happen!

Gut: Yes, of course! Backup arena go!

You will be fighting on the CLIFF HANGER ARENA!

Cliff Hanger (Outdoor Custom Arena): This battle is held on a steep cliff. It has a waterfall going over it, and a fast flowing river with rapids. The banks are muddy and sticky. The Special Rules River, Muddy River Edge, Waterfall, Cliff and Terrain Edge (Forest)

Tjeka: Hm.
Gut: How's that for gravity?

Mozz 07-26-2013 07:46 AM

If we could do no sigs, no badges, I would be semi-grateful. Don't want to bring the Mozz Badge, and pretty sure all the GLs I beat didn't have badges back then :202:

If you say no, then I'll attach sigs. But for now:

Miss AllSunday - Female Gengar

Zenchi: Male Alakazam

Fuu: Female Butterfree

Hikaru: Female Charizard

Athena: Female Dragonite

Jishaku: Genderless Magnezone

Shuckle 07-26-2013 06:07 PM

A pleasure to battle ya, Mozz. I may not look forward to the Golden Wang of Justice, but I'll enjoy the ride in the end. Probably.

Sing - Male Gallade
Julia - Female Tyranitar
Quartz - Male Scolipede
Hack - Shiny Male Bisharp
Tox - Female Venomoth
Kojonia - Female Mienshao

Let's start with Julia the Tyranitar.

Mozz 07-26-2013 07:34 PM

Hover over the side of the cliff, staying clear for now, and Rain Dance.

Shuckle 07-27-2013 11:50 AM

Smack Down a wing, then Sunny Day.

Round 1: Dragon and Dragon Thing

Gut: Be careful! It is dangerous!

It most certainly is, Gut! The place of battle today is the Cliff Hanger arena, as famous for its rushed and deadly waterfall as it is for its rushed and deadly pun!

Gut: How awful!

Our challenger for the battle is Mozz, league veteran and important cultural figure of the ASB for a lot of reasons, some of them good, and some of them kind of really disgusting! Our acceptor is Shuckle, who is none of those things that I just listed! Mozz has chosen Athena, a female Dragonite, and Shuckle has elected to bring Julia the female Tyranitar to the battle. Our musical manager for this match, Tjeka the female Beedrill, will now give us her musical selection for the match! DJ Tjeka?

Tjeka: Heir Transparent.

Thank you very much Tjeka! I will proceed to do a play by play reffing in time with the music, because I feel like it! Athena is released into the air over the side of the cliff, and Julia stands on land, just a few feet from the muddy riverbank, facing Athena! And heeeeere we go! Hit it, DJ Tjeka!

Tjeka: *presses play*

0:00 - 0:04 Our combatants are released and glare at each other as the wind blows on the high cliff. Tensions mount. It is a thrilling staring contest, as thrilling as the Chinese food I'm looking forward to eating for dinner.

0:05 - 0:12 Julia fires off a Smack Down aimed straight for Athena's wing! The rock energy connects and deals a nice shot while also knocking Athena off balance! She plummets down, but luckily a Dragonite's ability to fly is not hindered by it's small wings, and she is able to right herself before falling too far down.

0:13 - 0:18 Athena, from her position a short distance beneath the cliff, shoots a Rain Dance into the sky. However, just as soon as the clouds begin to gather, Julia fires off a Sunny Day, cancelling the weather effects. The round draws to a close with minimal confrontation.

Athena took a bit of a hit there, but it really wasn't too bad despite the super effectiveness. She's still got a nice chunk left in her first quarter of health. Energy wasn't bad either, although she did use up some trying to right herself in the air.

Julia took no damage, but used up a small amount more energy than Athena.

Julia is still on the cliff. Athena is hovering in the air about 15 yards beneath the cliff.

Orders from Shuckle!

Shuckle 07-27-2013 11:00 PM

Nice job! Too bad it wasn't a bigger wing. Silly Pokephysics, how does Dragonite fly anyways?

Use Thunder, then, while the attack is still in midair, try to paralyze her with Thunder Wave.

Mozz 07-27-2013 11:44 PM

Steel Wing, then, since you're close, Ice Beam.

Round 2: Snooze!
Round 2 of Dragon versus Dragon thing starts. Gut, analysis before the round starts?

Gut: Dragon thing, Julia, has a slight lead!
Tjeka: It's too early to tell, however. It's still anyone's game.

And here we go!

0:18 - 0:31 Julia takes a deep breath and fires off a huge THUNDER! WHOA! Big and yellow and zappy and deadly, for sure! It arcs high into the air, but Athena down in her position slightly below the cliff has already begun to move, flapping her wings and moving upwards and forwards towards the cliff, her wing gathering Steel energy. The thunder comes down, barely clipping Athena who has moved from her position and has cleared the cliff, swooping forwards and smashing Julia with a Steel Wing! Ouch!

0:32 - 0:41 Athena continues to dish out the hurt, winding back and releasing out an Ice Beam, DBZ Kamehameha style. Why not just a normal from-the-mouth beam? That's boring as shit! The Ice Beam smashes into Julia, forming a big chunk of ice at the top of her blue belly thing and dealing a nice hit! Julia isn't going to end this round without doing ANYTHING productive, however, and she goes for a THUNDER WAVE! Too bad she used up almost all of her electric energy in that Thunder, though. A piddling of electricity flies from Julia's fingertips and zaps Athena with the strength of a minor static shock one might receive from a doorknob in a carpeted room.

Athena took only portion of damage from the Thunder, avoiding the full brunt of the blast. She's just about reached the end of her first quarter of health. Her energy use was pretty high, though. She's close to reaching the end of her first quarter of energy, too. As for paralysis, she kind of feels a bit of a crick in her neck!

Julia took some heavy hits and delivered none. She's been pushed below the first quarter of health by a decent chunk. Energy use was really high, and she's already a good amount into her second quarter in that respect. She has a large chunk of ice stuck on her chest that will probably restrict upper body movement slightly.

They are a few feet from each other, staring at each other. Athena's back is to the cliff. She is about 15 feet from the cliff's edge, and the two of them are about 10 feet from the river's mudbanks.

Shuckle 07-28-2013 02:34 PM

If Dragonite's wing is made of steel, how did the lightning miss? Just curious.

/awkwardly ends post because not his turn to order

Copygoo 07-28-2013 03:15 PM

I don't think it literally turns into steel, it just gets charged with steel energy.

Shuckle 07-28-2013 03:21 PM

This is head-hurtingly strange, but does Steel energy have the properties of steel (i.e. does water energy put out fires? does fire energy burn things?), and thus would conduct and attract electricity?

This also assumes that a Thunder attack behaves similarly to an actual lightning strike.

Copygoo 07-28-2013 03:28 PM

That's a good question for S&I. I'll take it up over there.

Copygoo 07-28-2013 03:40 PM

And by what Kush said I'm gonna go with "no it does not".

Mozz 07-28-2013 08:09 PM

Fly up in a zig zag pattern and set up a Light Screen.

Shuckle 07-28-2013 09:45 PM

This is disappointing, Julia. We can do better.

Taunt, Stealth Rock.

Copygoo 07-30-2013 09:35 PM

Round 3: I'd like to write a fucking dissertation on why Taunt/Swagger is f'ing dumb
Here we are. Round 3. Wow these orders look like they're going to be really boring and easy to ref which is awesome because I just got home from 9-hour band camp and I don't feel like doing anything complicated.

Tjeka: *pauses the music*

Bless you, Tjeka. We tight as shit. Let's do the reffing now.

Athena uses those tiny wings of hers and flies again. Upwards. But not only is she flying upwards she is flying in a fucking ZIG ZAG. Look at those fucking diagonal alternations. Holy shit. That is some sweet ass simple-yet-effective ordering right there. Can you tell that I'm trying to pad my reffing for this shitty and tiny round. Anyway Julia doesn't appreciate the hidden artful beauty of Athena's zigzags and tells her exactly how she feels. And by that I mean she taunts her. Wow. Julia's a mean, mean person.

Athena is consumed by rage at Julia's ignorance to her post-modern dance/battle moves and forgoes setting up a Light Screen. Julia pulls up some rocks from the ground that rise up and smash into Athena before going back into the ground. How fuckin exciting. Oh and they do it in a ~stealthy~ manner.

Tjeka: Whatever that means.

Julia used some energy I guess? She's a good chunk away from the halfway point.

Athena lost some health I guess? She's nearing her halfway point.

Athena is hovering 20 meters off of the ground. Julia is not.

Shuckle 07-31-2013 02:57 PM

Needs more Smack Down. Aim for the tail since the wings weren't such a good place. Then, Secret Power. Don't let up >:L

Mozz 07-31-2013 09:38 PM

Can the orb of energy be sent back at the user or no?

Copygoo 07-31-2013 10:01 PM

With Reflect? No. By any other means? Yes, if you want to try and like. Blow it back with a bunch of wind or something.

Shuckle 07-31-2013 10:05 PM

I have always considered Smack Down to be for all intents and purposes a rock. You just don't need to have an actual rock handy to use it.

If Copy disagrees, then of course it is a rock energy orb (?) with magical rock energy properties. That does raise the question of, if it is pokemagical, does it have gravity powers i.e. actually Smack Down the opponent?

Interesting stuff.

Mozz 07-31-2013 10:27 PM

I was thinking "Dragonite whack it with your tail" or something. This is one of those new moves that I've never seen in the anime nor did I write an attack script for. :202:

Copygoo 07-31-2013 10:30 PM

Oh. Well. I hadn't thought about something like that, to be honest. The attack descript DOES describe it as being "solid" rather than just pure energy, so it would probably work, yeah.
