But you were in a bad situation, I'd not sweat it.

In general recoil attacks aren't that useful. Possible exceptions are Volt Tackle and Double Edge, but for a bipedal Fighting type you probably have better options. You may also wish to think about holding on the support moves (Sunny Day) when going first unless you have incapacitated your foe in some way already.

And definitely don't try "dodge anything SE with Agility" on a Ground type.
