I hate XP. I hate Vista. I hated 2000 when I made the transition from '98 and hated '98 back when I still had '95, which I hated back when I was using Windows 3.1.
With each successive program, Microsoft has made Windows less customizable for idiots such as myself and removed a great deal of the useful functions. Namely, I used to "arrange icons" in folders by only thee categories - size, name, and date. Now, I realize Windows XP no longer supports the "sort by date" function.
I want it back. How do I enable it?

Windows Vista has "Arrange by Date" but does it incorrectly, as I can verify from my screencap ordering sessions.* As for Windows XP, my experience with the OS has been on hiatus since May 2007 but last I saw of it, it could totally Arrange by Date. O_o What you're describing almost sounds like a Windows Update gone horribly wrong or something. :|
* Every time you open VLC, let us call that a "session." Each session, screencaps are given a numerical identity in the order they are made. However, every session begins at a different random number. For example, Session #1 may begin with vlcimage-6629. The next image will be vlcimage-6678 (which is after 6629), the next vlcimage-9821, and so on. However, if I start a new session, Session #2, it could be far ahead in the numbering system (e.g. vlcimage-127712) or even farther back (e.g. vlcimage-2298). This, of course, means that any given session's filenames reflect chronological order, but said order falls apart beyond the session level.
Because of this, I tried to use Windows Vista's "Arrange by Date Created" feature to arrange the files in the order they were taken. Unfortunately, this did not seem to work on the Desktop, on a folder on the Desktop, and on a folder in My Pictures. :| Photos were largely retained "within sessions" (e.g. the photos of Session #1 all remained together and did not mingle with Session #2), with only one, two, or three photos per session being randomly removed and placed elsewhere in line. Very bizarre.
