View Full Version : Unable to access User CP or private messaging

Since returning from the forums after a few years absence, I seem completely unable to access these areas of the forum. When I click onto either the Private Messages link in the top right or the User CP link, I am redirected to a white page.

I'm not sure if this is some sort of fault on my end or if something needs changing behind the scenes, I just thought this would be the best place to post regarding it.

I'd appreciate any help and/or guidance :3

I know everyone hates being told the problem is on their end, but, I'm not having any troubles with it myself.

Unless there's an option in the Admin control panel to disable those features for certain users which got checked, either accidentally or purposefully (I'm not an admin, so I can't tell if it even exists), the only thing I can think of is it being something with your internet

I'm not a technician, so I can't do much else to help, sorry.

What browser and version are you using?

Well, I've tried accessing it on a number of browsers. My primary browser is Flock, but I also tried Chrome and IE and have been getting the same problem.

I also tried it on two different computers with no joy :/

There's a checkbox under the "Messaging and Notification" header that says "Enable Private Messaging". If you can't get through on that link it might be something on your end. You could try doing it on another computer or give your username/password to someone you trust so they can have a shot :\ Also, I use Firefox, but I'm pretty sure a lot of people use IE so I dunno if that makes any difference.

That link just directs to the same error page, so it can't be that. I've tried it on my PC and my mum's PC, but obviously they are in the same house if that affects it in any way.

I'd say I would PM you my log-in to try it for yourself, but, well, I can't PM. If I was to message it to you on Facebook, would you give it a try?

Hm. Weird. Maybe something is borked with your account. I'll poke the higher ups to see if they can see if anything is wrong. Nothing looks weird from a cursory glance at your account.

Thanks for that. This has the first time I've encountered the problem, but like I said, I haven't been around for a year or two D:

Nope, didn't work for me either. Having an educated guess someone messed up your permissions when they removed your access to FB's Private Boards when you went on haitus.

That was a hunch of mine, but I wasn't entirely sure. Any chance someone can check/verify/fix that? If it's even the cause of all this, anyway...

I looked at all that. You're in the normal members usergroup (which doesn't seem to have any problems with PMs) and your ability to receive PMs and stuff is all turned on.

I am beyond confused then. I tried googling it yesterday, to see if I could sort it myself, and I found quite a lot of instances of it. It's obviously something I couldn't fix myself, though.

One thing that seems to crop up in a number of the results is mod_security?

Yeah I saw a few possible causes. But I want to run things by the server admin before I start messing around with stuff at random.

Of course, thanks a lot for your time with this as it is. I'm not really in any particular rush to access them, since I haven't received any PMs, but I would like the ability to be able to do so.

It all appears to be fixed, now. Thank you very much for your help! :3

So it was the Admins' fault, I wasn't expecting that.

Glad to see you got it fixed. Sorry I couldn't do anything to help.

It wasn't the admins fault, something got screwed up server side.
