You are gonna be so, so alone on this one. :lol: It isn't just the song. White's Opelucid's look and feel is 100x better. The only thing weird about it is that the apprentice is who you face off against rather than her teacher, the guy everyone in the village seems to respect. That's like the one thing Black has going for it. Black's look is horrendous. It's like Tron: the City! No thank you. I'll take tragic-city-that's-seen-better-days over Tronland any day.

But hey, I look forward to the poll results too. Maybe I'm the one who'll wind up being surprised! :lol:

White Opelucid (and really the general feeling of the game) fits a lot better than Black - that whole TECHNO deal doesn't really work out with the themes and feel of the other areas of the game. I understand that its supposed to be more modern and junk, but the thematic elements of the story lend itself to a conflict between nature and technology. If you just make it so everything is technology, you lose some thematic richness.

Not to mention that the music is superior.

Something like that is harder to poll for. The poll here is "which of these 2 songs is better". If it was a "which game (black or white) is better" or something like that, then you have many other factors about the game come into play (certain pokemon, areas, legends, etc). Many might agree 3 is terrible, but not the worst gen. Personally, I hate everything about gen 3 so.. it all sucks.

Thats not true at all! I listed the 4 things that set these 2 versions of 1 town apart! Ya went an editted in fancy youtube embeds instead of the simple url links I had 'em as remember? Doing that made the music stand out over the other stuff I had listed e_e;

White version of the town resumes the trend of 8th Gym Towns being boring looking (only Sunyshore avoided that fate thus far). I like Sootopolis in theory and design but its soooo whiiiiite! Black version is cool looking and fits more with the rest of the towns in the game even if it is alil future-y.

Then theres the gym leader difference. Who wants to face an apprentice over the real deal? Ya could argue that all of the trainers ya fight in gyms are apprentices so what makes Iris any more special then them ya know? Besides Drayden is as I mentioned Mayor Awesome. Ya don't argue with a beard like that!

And of course Black version doesn't have stray pixels! Clearly showing more care was put into making that version of the city!

I don't think encountering Drayden is necessarily more awesome than encountering Iris, given that few things have been more fun for me in all my years of playing Pokemon games than encountering NPCs in the games who I know from the TV show. Part of what made the Gen 1 games so magical for me was that I was "living the anime as if I were the star and not Ash Ketchum," so to speak. I made different choices than he did but we fundamentally went to the same towns and saw the same people. It was just a really magical experience. While the magic wasn't quite as strong (given that her two personalities are so different between game and anime!), it was still pretty cool to see Iris in the game.

That stated, I pretty much 100% agree with you (..... sooooo, do I 99% agree with you? :lol: ) that Drayden is the gym leader I'd rather have encountered. Just as you said, who wants to fight the apprentice when you can fight the master? Granted, it would have been smarter had they allowed us to fight both of them in both games, with Iris being the person we fight first in order to reach Drayden, and Drayden being the person we fight second in order to get the gym badge. Or another way they could have done it would have been to have had Iris be the one who gives us the gym badge (in both games), but then Drayden says "Come back and challenge me once you've beaten the Elite 4." Or some such. And when you do? Level 80s / 90s/ 100s, pure fully-evolved dragons with good AI and good movesets. (Could be thematic dragons à la Lance or could be typed dragons à la GSC Clair, whichever.)

But anyway, what's done is done. And it's besides the point. Point is, Opelucid in White is still leagues better than Opelucid in Black. Not just because of the music, but because of the look of the city, too.

Black Pros:
- you get to fight the master
- no stray pixels (not a big deal >_>)

White Pros:
- best song in the entire gen
- great look
- get to fight a familiar face from the anime

Being the the lonely group and siding with Lindz.

Though I never really thought of Iris as Drayden's apprentice, but I guess it would make some sense. I always thought of it as 'Drayden is the noble, majestic treasure-hoarding side of the dragon, and Iris is more the wild child that represents dragon's unpredictable, uncontrollable nature'. Kind of unrelated, but the TV show which had them counting up a pile of 'treasure' (which may or may not of been their badge) made me chuckle. Though, not as much as the Elesa one.


Something I found cool was the relation between the two cities. It does some weird time-bending, but Black's city seems to be later in time than White's, judging by the Grandad-Dad-Son trio.
