The engine is full of bugs. Fallout 3 had tons and still has tons after two years, I'm not surprised if anyone ran into any in New Vegas. Hell, this crazy shit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToKIkw3LIoQ) was happening on day one for a good number of people.

I've only got a couple of hours in-game myself. I nitpick too much and end up restarting a lot, which has caused me to leave Fallout 3 unfinished :x That and the bugs really turned me away from the game every so often.

The in-game Roulette is surprisingly addictive. The slots are absurdly lame. Have not tried Poker.

Caravan is nice too, but I wish the game told me the controls involved the Up/Down/Left/Right Arrows instead of the WASD. It got me so confused that I RAEG'd out of NV like 10 times before thinking to look for tips (read: instructions) on Youtube lol.

Ugh new patch. More crashes and monsters that won't die and/or spawn under the floor... WTF Bethesda and Obsidian?!? Also some speech options have also disappeared and I was forced to do a quest by getting gyped 25 caps (although I had over 7k so I didn't care).

Guess I should sit in the casinos until they break that or I break the ban limit :x

Yeah, I know how you feel. I've become good friends with the dev console since I tend to lose a lot of companions when I tell them to go hang out at the home base.

Also tried playing Very Hard for a bit before going back down to Normal. I knew that higher difficulty in Fallout 3 = bullet sponges, but Jesus Christ not even being able to cripple a Deathclaw's leg before it fucking ginsoos me is where I draw the line.

I HAVE TOO MUCH CAPS AND NOTHING TO BUY!!!

I am thinking of restarting and doing an all melee/unarmed run on Hardcore. I have a feeling I will die very much. Also, all my companions will have to be set on melee as well, so it can be as confusing and brawlerific as possible With the Ninja perk, I can Donkey Punch people for devastating results. Sucks that Chinese Stealth Armor lost the stealth field from Fallout 3. Granted, it was ridiculously broken.

Did you run into that NCR MP that randomly attacks you? I had 'Liked' reputation with the NCR, I beat the NCR Ambassador at yet another game of Caravan and won another 2k caps from him. Suddenly an NCR MP came in and said something along the lines of "Don't mess with the NCR!" and attacked me, causing everyone to aggro me. Veronica punched the Ambassador and his staff to death and becoming vilified. Of coarse if I somehow stop my companion and run out to the Strip, the Securitrons Mk2 will also start attacking and then I'm fucked overall. I ended up having to use an older save.

No, but still plenty of jank to go around. Had a quest where I was tasked by an NCR ranger to kill some crucified NCR troops in a Legion camp (his logic was that they were dead anyway and attacking the camp was suicide, so it was the most merciful option in the circumstances).

I'm wearing power armor, have companions and am armed to the teeth. I clean up the camp and free the troops from the crosses, but don't get any credit for the quest because the game apparently doesn't recognize saving the troops as a viable quest option. So to complete the quest I apparently need to shoot some NCR troops in the head to "save" them, even though they're all currently hanging out at a nearby NCR camp.

welp

Oh, and in another instance a prisoner who was begging me to release him from a jail cell was later walking around even though I hadn't done anything to rescue him.

[insert bug complaint]. [insert glitch problem]. [insert overall problem]. [insert something dumb]. [insert a whole lot more issues].

And despite all this, I still can't stop playing.

And despite all this, I still can't stop playing.

Probably because we don't see a lot of games of Fallout 3/NV's scope anymore (barring stuff like Geneforge made by people who aren't perpetually chasing Call of Duty/GTA's coattails). For me, both games have been interesting enough in their ambition that I can forgive the technical snafus.

Yeah, I totally agree. I actually find New Vegas better than Fallout 3 in regards to the overall storyline with the reputation system instead of the simple Karma system. Fallout 3 basically had the same ending regardless of what you do. Meanwhile, in New Vegas, the choices you make seem to have much greater impact.

Ending Spoilers and comparison of FO3 with FONV:
At the end of FO3, you work with the Brotherhood and retake Jefferson Memorial. Destroy the Enclave or not, you will be doing this. In FONV, you can take so many different choices and changing the ending greatly. Expand the NCR? Enslave with the Legion? Or do something else? It's all up to you!

It's definitely a step up from just something as simple as "Do [quest] the good way or the bad way. Similar results regardless."

Also, my prior post was a bit of a reference to Ice-T's twitter about New Vegas, which seems to be everyone's opinion of the game lol.

Bad review of New Vegas. (http://nexus404.com/Blog/2010/11/05/the-top-six-reasons-fallout-3-is-better-than-fallout-new-vegas-after-playing-both-i-discover-six-reasons-that-fallout-new-vegas-just-cant-surpass-fallout-3-yet/)

FORCED REPLAY VALUE IS A BAD THING. WHO WANTS TO PLAY A [Good] GAME MORE THAN ONCE?!?

BUGS IN FALLOUT NEW VEGAS?!? BY GOD NO! FALLOUT 3 ONLY HAS A MILLION OF THEM WHICH HAVE YET TO BE EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE TO BEING FIXED IN TWO YEARS! CANNOT HAVE A NEWLY RELEASED GAME HAVING BUGS!

TALKING AS A WAY TO SOLVE PROBLEMS!? BY GOD NO! ONLY GUNS SHOULD BE USED AND NOT PASSING SPEECH CHECKS HAS NO IMPACT ON ME SHOOTING MY WAY THROUGH SO LET ME COMPLAIN ABOUT IT!!

More proper review of New Vegas. (http://www.nma-fallout.com/article.php?id=57162)

Try again when they release New New Vegas: "this time, we've ironed out all most of the bugs!"

Three weeks ago? You didn't have 2k caps or 500 caps to buy a passport to get in? You barely skimmed the surface.

Despite the bugs, the game is still very compelling and much better than Fallout 3 as a Fallout game. Being designed by the former workers of Black Isle, the original Fallout developers, it is considerably better written, better thought out, and closer to a real Fallout experience than Fallout 3 was.

Why did they not test the game? n00bs...

I'm past all that. I killed the one guy who shot me in the head.

I don't think it is as simple as just playtesting the game. I've spent over 160 hours on Fallout New Vegas and I still haven't completed the game. And if you take into account the fact that the game has so much in it, it is not difficult to see bugs slip in.

In linear games, the game is designed to steer you a certain way with its map and you're basically following train tracks. When you find a problem on the track, you see it right away and fix it. Meanwhile, due to Fallout New Vegas' sandbox nature, you can't sift through every grain of sand looking for the pieces of kitty litter mixed in.

But yes, these games should have considerably less bugs. But when you think about the history of gaming, almost every game in every generation in all the history of video gaming has had glitches or some form or another.

Not like this, man. Not like this.

Firstly, I haven't seen you say how you suffer a grave wronging from playing this game and losing something to a bug. Secondly, I haven't seen you name a game of at least 100 hours with a 3D physics engine and open world exploration that has little or no bugs.

A lot of it is slightly over exaggeration, even from myself. We will be quick to jump on "Oh man the game crashes/bugged out/glitched," the moment it happens, but we don't necessarily jump in and say how many hours we played without a problem.

And there have had been games with considerably worse problems. (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/angry-video-screwattack/701484)

After sitting on this game at 34 hours played and thinking I was going to do everything I could before making an end-game run, I decided to stop being a Spergneck Beardlord and finally finished the free Vegas route. Kind of dumb that you can't keep playing afterwards, but the critical path once you cross the point of no return is only a couple hours long so whatever.

PS. The guy who thought about introducing heavy armor/AP bullets into the combat system should be shot

PPS. I would like the gunplay a lot better if the game wasn't so horridly unoptimized on the PC
