...has yet to be made. But it's been announced. Or, at least, it will be announced. Sadly I missed the opportunity to get the source link, but I've got the info in my head. Ahem.

ZUN of Team Shanghai Alice (Touhou Project), Ryukishi07 of 07th Expansion (Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni) and Kinoko Nasu of TYPE-MOON (Tsukihime) will be combining their talents to create a doujin game for next year. I'm assuming this will be a joint project between the three groups, not just the individuals (which means Takashi Takeuchi will be involved as well). The official announcement will be at this year's Comiket.

It's interesting to hear the three are teaming up, since while true they're all respective fans of each other's work they have a lot of different tastes.

ZUN - no males in his game, hardcore fighting.
Ryukishi07 - lots of violence and mystery in his stories but no explicit sexual content.
Nasu - crazy arse philosophical concepts and poorly written porn just for laughs.

Potential for awesome is very high.

Have you ever played a Touhou game!?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_Shanghai_Alice (first paragraph at least)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touhou_Project (first paragraph at least)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK6p4bvQLF4 (video showing you what Touhou games are like)

Fighters = Street Fighter. Mortal Kombat. Killer Instinct. Tekken. VF. DOA. Guilty Gear. etc.
Touhou series = not a fighter series.
Team Shanghai Alice = not famous for making fighters; famous for making shooters

To the best of my knowledge, ZUN has made one fighter in his day, Immaterial and Missing Power (link) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immaterial_and_Missing_Power); but that is the ONLY fighter he has EVER made, and he didn't even MAKE it so much as "co-make it" with the other doujinsoft group. If I had to guess, ZUN's involvement was probably limited to the contribution of his famous Touhou girls and explaining what sort of personalities they have and what manner of combat they would engage in. :| ZUN's programming expertise is (or at least APPEARS to be) shooters. Not fighters.

If this co-conspired game between the three of them is a shooter, count me out. ZUN's shooters are famous for being insanely hard, and I don't think shooters are more than 5 minutes' worth of fun, anyway. :| Hopefully ZUN's contribution will be, as before, "letting you guys get away with borrowing my precious Touhou girls" or some such.

I had no idea "fighter" and "shooter" were game types. o.O;

My usage was generic to simply imply action, *shrug*. I'd like to play Perfect Cherry Blossom but I lack the equipment to do so - the last gamepad I ever owned was when I was in the fifth grade.

Also, there is a very high chance this game will be a visual novel, not a shooter.

Heh. ^_^; Sorry, I love fighters.

But yeah. Shooter is the over-arching genre to which FPS belongs, although FPS has become (arguably) larger than the parent grouping itself in sheer volume of titles! I sometimes forget that there are other "shooters" besides FPS and 3PS games, and when I hear the word "shooter" for video games, I often immediately think of an FPS. Bad habit. :|

Touhou is basically equivalent to the old-style shooters like Gradius and whatnot, only it's oriented North-South instead of East-West. (Ironic, since the series is Tou Hou, or "Eastward", 東方 .)

If you're interested and own a GameCube, I found this courtesy of Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikaruga Apparently it came out in America on the GC in 2003, so hopefully I can find it at EB for like $5 or so. As you can see for yourself, the sample picture closely resembles a lot of Touhou's common action sequences. Also, since you're such a 4channer :P :) , this might interest you some:

The North American box cover for the Gamecube version contains the infamous IGN quote, "Our frothing demand for this game increases." which has become synonymous with slow-witted game journalism on prominent Internet discussion groups.

No problem. I'm unfamiliar with gamer nomenclature since games have always been far too expensive for my family to afford, so we've had to settle for the once every few year PC game. The last one I played was Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal nearly four years ago.

Another possibility for this game is that it'll be simmilar to Higurashi Daybreak or Fatal/Fake.

Doppel ... turns out the game is in limited release and copies currently sell for over $50. That's the bad news. The good news is, the total filesize of the entire game is 18 MB. According to Wiki, that's when it's FULLY UNCOMPRESSED. So I'm thinking that it should be quite easy to find a PC-compatible version of this game. I will look into a little more tomorrow. Finally, some German dude has a picture of Ikaruga on a DS box. I don't know if he photoshopped it or if it's the real deal, but the date of the Google hit is May 24, 2007, so it could be recent news. No idea, though. :|

Anyway, enough about that. Like you said, this game will probably be a visual novel, not a shooter. So here comes my next question ... will it be a visual novel like Type-Moon's usual fare, where you just click and click and click some more and enjoy a good story? Or is it going to be one of those rare visual novels (sort of like Melty Blood's storymode) which has a story coupled with actual gameplay, be it fighting, shooting, or what have you? Any confirmed news on this, Doppel? I'll be interested to see if we're going to get a Touhou visual novel with Touhou gameplay (the former being something the Touhou community has been starved for), or alternatively if we're going to get a Type-Moon visual novel with Type-Moon gameplay (the latter being something the Type-Moon community continues to hunger for).

Any pics?

Btw, we'll have to bump this thread come August, since we're going to be waiting that long for this summer's Comiket.

The only pictures were of Zen, Ryukishi07 and Nasu at a table announcing they're making the announcement. Nothing about the game is known, it's just that since the strong suits of all three writers is story, it'll probably be a visual novel.
