View Full Version : Anyone just wanna play?

This isn't a tournament. I just want to play somebody. >_> Ever had that feeling? Then post here and see if someone's on and wants to battle you.

I'd like to battle. Rules are simple:
- Auto-Lvl 100
- 6 vs 6 singles (n v n singles upon request acceptable, n >= 3)
- no impossible/illegitimate hacks (possible/legitimate hacks are fine by me. I won't be using any tonight but you're free to)
- limit of one item per.
- no legendary ubers. Non-uber legendaries fine for you to use. (I don't. Matter of principle / old school in the hizzhouse.)
- no repeats, limit of 1 creature per team
- time limit of 2 min per turn, please. rule cannot be enforced. please be respectful.
If it isn't listed, then it's okay.

Sure, let's do this.
Just tell no one know my team and I won't have to drive 3 hours to slit your....ummm...DS
Also I have only one team right now, so be wary of it's crapiness.
Hopefully will have a couple new guys soon.

I recorded our match.
Will have to send to you once I transcribe it in a Word file like I did with my match against Treep.
2-0 Stlbk, w00t!
Btw, the double-kill on the first Pokemon was awesome XD

Good game! I'm content to have forced it to 2-0 after having lost two of my three opening dudes. Also content seeing as I was up against a far superior player. :)
Earlier today (prepping for Kind), I thought about placing __________ on my Togekiss. I'm convinced now it needs it, since my attempt to Ancient Power your ________ not only proved fruitless hax wise (no stat bonuses? twice in a row? despite Serene Grace? D: ) but did much less damage to you than this move (of the same primary type as your guy) would have done. For some reason, I used to run Grass Knot in place of it (on my hacked Diamond file). Probably because I love Grass-type stuff so much. :) Probably also because of the ubiquity of Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina back then. Oh, heavyweights. :)
LOL @ your fine prediction that my Starmie was (a) holding the item he was holding and (b) packing ____________ as one of his four moves. Traditionally I played a Surf / Psychic / Ice Beam / Recover Starmie. The switch you observed didn't occur until circa 2007. I know it's just another side of the same old school Starmie coin, but still. Nicely predicted.
WTF O_O AMAZEMENT @ _________'s staying power and attack power both. I always thought of him as some UU nobody. He was pretty fearsome. (Hint: the second dude, I believe, I saw of yours. You didn't nickname him so I can't say his name. ^^; Uh ... first attack of his you used began with the letter S?)
Tough luck about _________ (your fragile dude who went down to Tusk). If I was packing Choice Band on him, then you'd have called it. But I already have Choice Band elsewhere on the team. (Hint: Turn One's mutual KO. :( )
Which reminds me ...
WHO THE HELL LEADS WITH A __________ !?!? I'd never seen that before. Even more surprising to me was that you didn't switch out after what I did to him on Turn 0! I "knew" you were going to switch and was debating whether I should or not. Imagine my surprise when you _________'d my poor lead into oblivion! :( (Though not without taking your guy with him! ;D)
Lt. Steel

I feel like the 2-0 was a lot closer than you think. I've become more familiar with my team thanks to Loki and Treep. Otherwise I would not have done half as well.
That one Poke that you thought was UU happens to be one of the coolest Pokemon to use IMO.
I'll go down the line of the names you had, hope that's safe?
Rasengan - XD, love the name! Too bad it and Gemini^ double-KO'd each other. Wonderful way to start the match. That lead has been an interesting choice so far and I think I'll keep it there as a nice surprise to people. 1st down.
Hotohori - You set up on that first round against Pein, I think that changed a ton of things. That and probably cause you hadn't seen Mystery X in normal play, so you didn't know what he would be like? I switched him in and took advantage of Hoto.
The Wall - I predicted right on you switching out Hotohori so I don't think it had much of a chance to do it's thing. Mystery X took care of The Berlin Wall.
Kumotenshi - Almost One-Hit the guy I switched in,Mystery Y, lol! Good prediction on switching out to Hotohori, but too bad it was on such low health. On the plus side, you did save Kumotenshi from receiving damage and I think it proved it's worth later on.
Tusk - Finished off that, Mystery Y, 2nd down, and then retreated when I brought out Seroon.
Kaisei - I thought your choice to bring out this one was interesting and I caught the right switch for my Mystery Z...unfortunately that switch back to Tusk ended my guy's buff, 3rd down. Pein came in and ended Tusk.
Back in with Kumo, attacked Pein and we had it out for quite a good exchange. But in the end you had a nice finishing move to cap off my 4th down.
Brought back in Seroon and it was just the remnant of Kumo who put up a good fight.
Kaisei came back out, but I was faster (that Timid nature helped :x ) and finished the match!
Overall it was a lot closer than it seemed.
But I had a feeling about the Choice Item on Kaisei. I figured at least if I lost speed, I could bring in Mystery X while you were trapped with that move and finish the match.
I'm not that good of a battler, I just predict right sometimes, lol.
Also I think I ended up not naming them because I never intended back in D/P for them to be on my team...how odd, eh?

I wanna test some Pokemon I haven't yet tried yet. Anyone wanna battle?
Talon87
06-15-2010, 08:53 PM
Sure. I am battling Blaine in Saffron. Almost done. Will head downstairs shortly. Look for Shoja. (I think you've already added me.)
EDIT: Or, would you prefer to test them out against Diamond Pokemon? They're hacked, but all the better for your purposes, perhaps. (They have legit stats and RNGed IVs but otherwise conform to conventional wisdom for competitive battling.)
Or hell, do you have any specific requests? Anybody you want me to put on my team?
Raptor Jesus

Okay. Expect possible mic spamming :x
Talon87
06-15-2010, 09:00 PM

Oh, I know! Rapid Spin gets screwed by ______ but S-move doesn't. :P
Actually I beat you 2-0, Loki 3-0 and then 2-0 :p
And yes, I deserved that owning from your last guy in the first match.
I wanted to set up and instead I got punched in the face....
Talon87
06-15-2010, 10:30 PM
Greedy? Are you fucking kidding me? Anything but. I was generous enough to let you set up Stealth Rock, Poison Spikes, and again Poison (now Toxic) Spikes before I even attempted to spin them away.
You're just a big fucking jerk, is what you are. XP ;P
EDIT: I have half a mind to put Facade on my Choice Band sweeper just to punish Loki's gay spikes. But part of me wonders how unfair that would be ...

Lt. Steel
06-15-2010, 10:55 PM
Yeah I think I wanted the set up, but at the same time I was cautious.
Like when I didn't think my Poke would KO your beefy guy after twice being hit, you thought I was crazy for not knowing it would KO it.
All matches could've gone either way, just some luck and some good prediction were the only differences lol.
Raptor Jesus
06-15-2010, 11:06 PM
You were overcautious. When you can take the win, take it instead of stalling. It's similar to a battle I had with Talon on RSBot. He had a Weezing and I had a Salamence (my last Pokemon). Instead of using Explosion FTW, he went cautious with Haze. Then Salamence swept his team.
There is a time for defense and a time for offense.

Looking for a 2v2 partner for the Battle Tower. Morgoth and I made it all the way to the 21st trainer's final Pokemon (literally) and then the Nintendo WiFi Connection cut out on us, depriving us of our highly-anticipated and earned grand prize.
If anyone would care to play with me, here are the rules:
Duration: one round, two rounds, or three rounds of seven (7). You must make it clear in advance. No take-backs, please. I'd rather you promise one and then say, "Let's do another!" than promise three and say "I'm pooped" after just one.
Strategy: you tell me. I have a powerful earthquaker if you want to provide a flyer or levitator. I have a pretty OK flyer with wide special coverage if you would rather be the one providing the earthquakes. I do not have a ghost or an exploder, and have been cautioned against employing this strategy against the A.I. since it tends to have "item hax" (e.g. "both guys conveniently had a focus sash on!") which makes this approach perilous. Morgoth and I used my EQer and his tank-flyer yesterday to great avail. Our backups were another of his dudes (with high SpAtt) and my old friend Kaisei ("seastar") the Starmie with his wonderful type coverage, high speed, and high SpAtt.
Casualties of War:
For these sorts of runs, my guys tend to be of the pure sweeper variety, i.e. Att/SpAtt and Speed investment. They therefore do not take lightly to collateral damage from an ally's attack that targets all creatures on the field. However, if the situation warrants its use, I am okay with having my guys injured or even KO'd. What matters is that we win. What also matters is that you do not recklessly or selfishly use such moves, thereby endangering our chances to win. (Morg's tank had amazing defenses, allowing Starmie to Surf while inflicting maybe ~20% HP loss tops in my ally.)
Vice versa, my guys have (and rely on) such attacks from time to time. Earthquake, duh, naturally hits anybody who isn't its user or who isn't flying or levitating at the time. And believe me, a STAB Earthquake from somebody with 252 EVs in Attack and a base attack of 130 are going to hurt anybody who isn't flying or levitating!! Anyone wanting to play with me will either need to be able to avoid this powerful move or else be okay with its use, understanding that sometimes it's needed to serve the greater good even if it KOs an ally's Pokemon in the process.
Here's the explanation of the prize payout ...
If we play our cards right, we can beat each round of seven in approximately 15-20 minutes. (The same amount of time it takes to advance through the Battle Tower on Singles mode except with maybe 15-20% added-on time.) Each round awards us with a disproportionately higher amount of BP than you'd get in the Battle Tower.
Battle Tower Singles
Round One = 3 BP
Round Two = 3 BP
Round Three = 20 BP
Battle Tower Doubles WiFi
Round One = 8 BP
Round Two = 9 BP
Round Three = ?? BP
If you do the math, it's way better to do this with a friend on WiFi than it is to go it alone on your game pak. Twenty-one monsters (7x3) nets you 3 BP, while twenty-eight monsters (7x4) nets you 8 BP. Were they the same, it should have been 4 BP, not 8 BP. In other words, you get twice the proportionately-fair amount of BP. It's very nice.

I don't think our Battle tower teams would have that good a synergy (Although your Starmie has given me incentive to train a Water-Absorb Toxicroak), but I am interested in a 6vs6 against you, Talon.

Sure, why not. I may not get a chance to play the infamous "beat SteelBeak 6-0" team otherwise. But it's 12pm local and I was *just* about to step foot outside the apartment and go get lunch.
How does 1pm EDT (fifty-seven minutes from now) work for you? In your reply, please provide your friend code. I'll add it to the Friend Code (http://forums.upnetwork.net/showthread.php?t=2104) thread. Mine is the one you see there for HeartGold, "Shoja."

My team isn't perfect, not anywhere close, as I almost lost to Loki's Team B last night lol.

I don't believe you, Steelie. I beat Loki's B team 6-0, as I mentioned last night, yet his A-team clobbered me. I'll have to upload the video and show you. I don't intend to hold onto it once it's uploaded since (imo) it wasn't a very spectacular fight. I mean, I had fun! But it wasn't epic like the fight I had with Morgoth. ("Supwise!" >_>)

It came down to the very last Pokemon and the very last hit from either Pokemon.
Two reasons:
1) Some teams are just better suited against others.
2) Loki knows my team VERY VERY well, lol. Even down to every item and attack I have on them I'm sure. He helped me figure out half my team.

Who wants to take on the Battle Tower challenge with me?
Goal: get as far as we can get in the Battle Tower on one run.
Pokémon allowed: no legendaries (even non-übers), no Garchomp
Items allowed: any
===========================================
Who wants to battle me?
Format: 6v6
Pokémon allowed: no legendary übers allowed. You're free to use anything else.
Items allowed: none whatsoever :D . Thought it'd be fun for a change.
Sleep clause: you can put to sleep up to two (2) Pokémon at once. However, once two Pokémon are asleep on your opponent's team, the use of a sleep-inducing move constitutes an auto-forfeit. (This applies to uses outside your immediate control, including but not limited to Sleep Talking a sleep-inducing move or Metronoming a sleep-inducing move.)
Explosion clause: You are limited to no more than three (3) Explosions in the battle. The use of a fourth Explosion will constitute an auto-forfeit.
Freeze clause: there is no limit to the number of creatures you may freeze. Restated, there will be no penalty for freezing more than one creature.
Paralysis clause: there is no limit to the number of creatures you may paralyze. However, your opponent will frown at you if you attempt to do nothing but paralyze, confuse, and flinch each and every Pokémon on his team. =P ;-)
OHKO clause: feel free to use 'em if you want to. Please limit them, however, to no more than two (2) Pokémon you control. If you control three (3) or more Pokémon with OHKO moves, the first two to attempt a OHKO move will be the two you are restricted to using OHKO moves with.
===========================================
Who wants to battle me?
Same specs as above but with one change ...
Format: 3v3. We will post our teams of six here to the thread should you choose this option. From these six, we must pick out the three we will be using. (Think of this as a Pokémon Stadium / Colosseum / Battle Revolution-style way of battling.)
Players picking this option will, ideally, want to battle more than once. However, there is no obligation to do so.
EDIT: uh, and absolutely no Explosions allowed if you pick this last option. XP I'll allow you to put to sleep one (1) Pokémon. All other rules should be the same.
