View Full Version : Wedding Mistake

Alright, I went to a wedding on Sunday, and the priest forgot half of his lines.
The guy couldn't even remember the most important part, "You may now kiss the bride!"
How would you feel if this happened to you?
Would you postpone the wedding and find a minister worth your time or move on with your life and look back one day and laugh at it?
(Edited by Steely: Cause it needed the help...)

Reading that was a bit torturous. The fact that you misspelled Wedding in the title and basic words like half, feel, would and important.
Anyway, this isn't really a debate... More like a discussion, not an argument.
But either way, an ordained minister not knowing the basic vows is pretty embarrassing, for the minister and the couple.

I'm pretty sure "You may now kiss the bride" isn't even in standard wedding vows, just movies.

I would feel terrible! Thankfully my pastor did not forget these classic lines in my wedding.
If they were left out, I would say that I would move on and look back one day and laugh.
Heck I'm laughing just thinking of it...awwwwwww, good times.

Why are you stealing ABL's color you color thief.

Is this her color? I was toying around with them last night, trying to find a decent one...how about this one?

This is a poll, not a debate. -_-;

I object! This is as much a debate, as opposed to just a poll!
(will bait Talon to respond...it will work)

It will work, but only because Talon wants to comment on your illogical syntax. "This is as much a debate as it is a poll," not "as opposed to a poll." What were you even trying to say with "as opposed to"!? Read, UPNetwork, read.
And on that note, an incredibly morbid title recommended to you by the Department of Education (http://www.read.gov/), or whichever cabinet heads up this program. "The Exquisite Corpse Adventure"? Seriously?

I love it when a plan comes together =D
Talon, you made my day.
I had more in here before, but I think I can be satisfied with the results so far, lol.
Just a note on the syntax. It is not incorrect, it lacks the word 'just' which would complete the sentence. (edited in, huzzah!)
Wondering if this will bait you to respond as well :x
(Plans to read The Exquisite Corpse Adventure. I'm sure it's educational...)

You think yourself clever, but you prove yourself ever the fool: it's still not correct, Steel! >_> "A is as much a C as opposed to just a B!" is not syntactic. You're trying but failing to say, "A is much a C as it is a B," or "This is as much a debate as it is a poll." The word "opposed" has no function in the sentence.
"Look at me! I am so clever. I can bait Talon. ... but I failed out of 8th grade English."
Also? This isn't a debate. This is a poll. "How would you feel if this happened to you at your wedding?" He is polling people. By definition. For it to be a debate, we would need to be debating something, e.g. whether or not it is acceptable for a marriage to be conducted in such a manner as the one described. We need to foster supporting evidence, be it factual, anecdotal, or purely rhetorical.
And were he to edit his original post to make it into a debate, it'd be a moot one. Pointless. Retarded. Who in their right mind would say, "Yeah, I'm cool with this." Only a troll.

XD!
This is why I am truly clever, Talon.
If you notice, I edited his post in the beginning because he could not form a sentence and could not spell.
I put those questions there, I know their meaning, lol.
And thus it is both a poll and a debate. It asks your opinion for what you think of the situation as well as what you would do in response. This conflict of opinions creates debate, just as we are doing now.
As for my sentence...of course it's correct! Wording could be different, formation could be different, but that's opinion and it's the reason we're still debating lol.

Not a debate. If you were a real mod, you'd have done more than just edit the post for legibility. Does NOBODY move things around here anymore? >_>
Lt. Steel

It's a legitimate debate once people understood what he was saying.
Though I don't know what the term 'real mod' means...
I guess I should moderate the misc forum...probably that 'Going to Hell' should be closed and put in the banned forum for the use of inappropriate content.
Heck, I guess I could probably PM it's creator (Talon87) and think about a possible ban for a couple days?
Meh it's not my style, though I probably will have to prune that thread as is...

What inappropriate content? Bring on mod abuse, I can't wait. Then we'll really see who's baiting who.

Hope you enjoy the new poll to the debate!
Also the discussion is inappropriate for the intended audience.
But again, I am not a strict man, so I could probably care less unless someone complained.

Hey, it's not my thread you're ruining with a petty feud with yours truly. Ask brandan how he feels.
Lt. Steel

I could, but I may not understand his response.
I'm not feuding though, I'm having fun...aren't you? ;-;
(did you not appreciate my humor in the poll results?)

Depending on the quality of wedding, and the timing, I'd imagine the quality of minister and priest performance to vary.
On a busy day with lots of weddings, the priest is not going to put on a very good performance. He'll probably rush things, since he has a lot of engagements pending.
If he's young or really old, more likely to forget things too.
I'd only "fire" him if he was chronically problematic...I mean, everyone has bad days. But to forget so frequently as to portray oneself as not having learned the mass at all, well, that's unacceptable.

Teeeechnically not my colour, but I still love Kuno for defending my "copyright" on it. ;] <3
Not on topic, yeah, but this is so fusterclucky now that it may as well be a TO thread. :x

On the contrary, some would say that marriage is the penultimate in clusterfucks.

We're not married so I can continue to put off the inevitable death of a sex life. Livin' the dream, Talon.
Maybe I should look into one of those "Mandatory sex" prenups that Jennifer Lopez apparently asked for.
Lt. Steel
05-26-2010, 01:13 PM
I would say that is incorrect.
I know it does not drop off after two years, though I think I'm the only married person on UPN, lol.
But that's probably because most guys don't understand women and how they view the process :p
I guess I'll close this thread, even ABL thinks it's toilet water now...so sad!
Time for a new thread about whether it drops off after 2 years or not!
