Of course you have, Zora! You own the Japanese version! :P
My roommate wouldn't take me to a store to buy it because, and I quote, "It's not like you can do anything with it since you don't have your DS." I could look at it. And read the manual over and over and over. :cry:
I'll get my copy of Pearl in a week or two. Still haven't decided what I will call my (female) trainer. I definitely know that I will be getting Naetoru/Turtwig, since my friend Sean insists on getting Pocchama/Prinplup. Sort of sucky for me, since I think Empoleon is the most useful of the three starters' final evos. (Blaziken over San Goku and then Terrtora, or whatever he's called, doesn't strike me as being very useful at all :cry: ... but he's still a unique Grass/Ground guy unlike San Goku. :P). Actually ... if it turns out that the fire monkey is the best creature to have of the three starters, then I could be persuaded to get him. Empoleon :cry: ...... oh well. :)

Wait they came out today? While a sunday launch isn't unprecedented due to Emerald.... it's kind weird they would release these on a "holiday" (earth day). Anyway just thought that was odd. I got no interest in these games so I'll move along now~ have fun though!
I'll probably be getting my copy of Diamond in two weeks. Payday on the second week of May. :D
Hmm, and I'd just like to try to convince Talon that although Goku has a boring typing and looks horrendous, it is probably the best of the three starters for various reasons.
A Water/Steel type has common weaknesses which makes it rather a boring pokemon to use, especially because its stats won't help it survive. I mean, every team has at least 2 Earthquakes and with the new advent of powerful grass moves, Empoleon will be having trouble. Its also outclassed by other water types who do pretty much the same thing but better, such as Milotic, Vaporeon, and Suicune.
The grass starter is cool. Hella unique typing and all round lovely stats. A chunky HP stat, Defense stat, and ok Special Defense stat makes this an ideal wall. It can also do quite a bit of damage with its great attack and STAB Wood Hammer and Earthquakes. However, the main thing that is keeping this back from use is its VERY common weakness to Ice. A 4x weakness to a type that every team will stack up on isn't good, mainly for the land shark. But if that doesn't stop you, Torterra is an awesome pokemon.
Fire monkey, however, is the best competitively because of its high speed and attacking stats. With its speed, it outruns MANY pokemon and does severe damage with its attacks. A large movepool and stats to keep it going makes this an ideal sweeper on many teams. Just a few things this thing can do: STAB Life Orb'd Flare Blitz can 2hko many pokemon on average, if they aren't resistant. It also has STAB Close Combat to own things too. Its weaknesses are much more difficult to exploit because Goku is faster than many of the users and can hit them with a SE hit easily.
So in the end, it may be all up to your opinion, but looking at them in a more competitive view, Goku is the most usable.
For me, personally, I like the grass starter. xd

I kinda lost my japanese diamond version, and the team I plan on crafting might not be a exact replica of the team I had on the japanese verision. And I was originally going to name the monkey orang panas, but I couldn't fit it all in. :( (Orang Panas means hot man in Indonesian.)

Did you try without the space in between the words? I know that in RBYGSC, the character limit was set to 10 English characters. For example, Tentacruel (10 characters). Since that creature's name requires (at a minimum) 10 characters, I "know" without even playing the game that you could have typed OrangPanas. I just want to hear from you why you didn't. ^_^;
EDIT: Just realized, though, that (strictly speaking) creature names aren't necessarily the best indicator for trainer name length maximums. I'd need to find evidence of a human's name that is 10 characters in length. Hmm .................
Sabrina, seven. Wattson, seven. Satoshi, seven. Shigeru, seven. Crap. :\ And all my names have always been five characters (by coincidence) -- Talon, (secret), and Ayane. Hmm. Odd, that. :lol: Three names, all five characters. Weird.

Well ... I hope you don't have to start over for a third time ... in case we find out that the rumors about "only being able to battle internationally, and not being able to trade internationally" turn out to be true. (For what it's worth, I highly doubt these rumors are true since GameFreak's interview in Nintendo Power made specific reference to the fact that Pokemon that the trainer gets from a different part of the world will have their PokeDex entry in that foreign language until the trainer decides to put it into his own native tongue ... or something like that.)

I forgot to mention, I visited EB Games after lunch to see if they had any shrink-wrapped copies of the game. Here's what I got ...
Talon: Do you have any shrink-wrapped copies of the new Pokemon game available?
Clerk: Yeah, we do. *looks in a cardboard box behind him suggestively*
Talon: Okay.
Clerk: ...
Talon: Can I--
Clerk: Sorry. These are all pre-orders.
Talon: Oh. Well, that's what I meant when I asked you, 'Do you have any copies available'. (Jackass. -_-)
Clerk: Yeah, sorry. (Hehe, I'm a tool. 8) ) The pre-order status on these expires in 48 hours, so ... check back tomorrow evening and if we still have any, maybe you can get one.
Talon: Yeah, thanks. (Ass.)
Clerk: (Right back at ya.)
Son of a bitch. :lol: What a jerk. "Yeah we do ... oh wait, not for you, loser." Wtf.
So ... unless I can convince my roommate to take me to Wal-Mart or Target *AND* they happen to have one or more copies of Pearl in stock, I'm s.o.l. for now. Not like it matters, since my DS Lite is currently on Day 3 of being in the UPS system. Probably hasn't even arrived at Nintendo's repair center yet ... never mind that they have to evaluate the broken subpixels, decide if it's my fault or their fault, and then mail it back to me fixed (for free) or unfixed (with an additional $7.50 shipping charge I'll have to mail back).

You guys seem to be pretty far ahead of me. I played for a little bit last night, and so far, I just have two Pokemon at Level 9: Piplup and Starly. I might catch another Pokemon and raise it up to Piplup and Starly's level... most likely a Shinx. I'm not really in a rush to fill up my squad, though.
Talon87
04-25-2007, 11:04 AM
Just remember -- Starly = classic textbook Attack Sweeper with his 120 base attack and 100 base speed (for final evo). So ... if possible :3 , and if willing to endure many hours of pain now (to avert many hours of sadness later :P), you should send Starly out to fight only those creatures which'll give him Att or Speed effort.
Which begs the question ...
Do we know what awards what effort yet? :confused:
SulcataIxlude
04-25-2007, 03:53 PM
Staraptor kicks lots of ass in battle since he learns close combat (100 attack power fighting attack that lowers defense and special defense after use), brave bird (flying type double edge), somersault (bug type move that lets you switch out after you use it without any reprecussion), and some other nice moves. :D

I caught a Shinx named Jinkourai this morning, but other than that, nothing of importance happened. I plan to raise her up to the same level as Ami and Wazo - my Piplup and Starly, respectively.
>and if willing to endure many hours of pain now (to avert many hours of sadness later Razz), you should send Starly out to fight only those creatures which'll give him Att or Speed effort.
I've done effort training a few times on my Sapphire version, so I know that it can be quite time-consuming, but I'm willing to sacrifice a few hours to effort train any of my monsters.
I think Serebii.net's Pokedex gives information on effort points, but I don't know if that site has it in a handy, convenient chart or anything of the sort - you have to look up the Pokemon individually.

You could pass down personalities since Emerald iirc.
Let me be more clear -- I meant, "I wonder if in D/P, they took it one step further from Emerald and made it so that the baby is even more likely to have the parents' personalities."
Natures only get passed down 50% of the time if Ditto or the Female holds an Everstone.
The really retarded thing about this is, in DP, this works on everything EXCEPT pokemon that came straight from the gba games. Which really sucks, but isn't too hard to get around.
Another thing you can do is use a pokemon with Synchronize to run around and catch pokemon with the same nature as the synchronize pokemon. This is awesome in Emerlad when Ditto hunting. :D
Talon87

Really. (Didn't know that.) REALLY. (Can't believe it.) Wow. That would make getting a Pokemon that has the right personality plus the right base stats so much easier ... because you could just guarantee that every single [strike:e8f68]Vulpix[/strike:e8f68] Pokemon you find has the right personality, and from there you'd only need to worry about the base stats. Wow.
oh, i forgot to mention only 50% of the time itll have the same nature. sorry. >>;;
Btw, getting good stats AND nature is ALOT easier when your breeding. Stats get passed down from its parents, 3 to be exact, sof i you happen to get pokemon with 31 in its ivs, you can use them to breed better babies.
Another trick you can use is, save before you get an egg from the guy. After you pick up the egg, hatch it. If it is the correct nature, gender, and trait you want, then check its ivs. If they aren't they way you like it, reset. Natures, Genders, and Traits are set when the egg is with the man, so as long as its the same egg the guy is holding, itll have the same stuff. So you don't have to keep hatching new eggs if your pokemon has crappy nature.
Talon87
04-26-2007, 05:56 AM
Let me make sure I understand what you just said.
When the Pokemon egg is with the man, i.e. he has stepped out to greet me:
- the gender has already been decided
- so has the nature
- so has the trait
x but the stats have not yet been decided
After I pick up the egg:
- the stats are then decided
Is this correct? If so, that does sound pretty good. Basically, you could just do the following:
1 - get the egg
2 - bike until you're a few steps away from it hatching
3 - save the game
4 - let it hatch. You confirm that it has the gender, trait, and nature you wanted. Great.
5 - Turn the DS on and off, on and off, on and off, as many times as it takes until you turn it on and the baby hatches with fantastic stats (e.g. 31 27 28 31 25 27)

My Budew evolved into Roselia at school today xd. I was happy.
Talon, once you get the egg, its stats are set. So, to get correct stats, you would have to bike all over again.
These are the steps to get decent ivs pretty quickly without the hassle of genders, traits, and natures.
When the guy is out with the egg, save in front of him.
Then, pick up the egg, and hatch it. Check the trait, gender, and nature. If its the one you like, check its stats. If the stats suck, reset, and you will be infront of the guy again. He will have that egg you hatched before its hatched, so you will know it has the gender and trait you want, so keep hatching the same egg over and over again until you get satisfactory ivs.
If its not the one you like, do this again.
This is awesome for breeding parents, but if you want the "perfect" pokemon, it is much better to just go around biking than this method because it will take a while for many of the longer eggs.
Also, anything with Magma Armour or w/e halves the amount of steps it takes for the egg to hatch.

Yeah I finally have a jolly skorupi with snipe! :D
*Runs off to level him up to 40 in preparation for the 5th gym leader.*
I have a question for all those pokemon breeding fanatics out there: When I pulled out my two over-sexed skorupi from the day care I noticed they had crunch, poison strike, and some other fun abilities. Yet when I hatched my skorupi it lacked any of those fun abilities. Is there any way to ensure a Pokemon will have decent moves bred onto them if they didn't have them in the first place?
Arnold
04-27-2007, 05:58 AM
from what Iget is, those moves were taught to it while it was in daycare, I've had pokes used in there learn new moves but the baby will always get the moves the parents had when they were first were dropped off, if you redropped them off for more eggs the baby will have the moves that they've learnt.
Prgoress on my part, jsut got the 3rd badge and fly, i'm bloody thankful I can go fisit old palces that I had to miss due to not having HM's, Liking these poketech things a well, some nice little features in them ^^
Pretty much exactly what Arnold said. Moves learned are shown after you take them out of the daycare. If they didn't have them while in the daycare, then the babies won't get them either.

04-27-2007, 06:11 AM
Oh ok, I just found it weird that my newest baby skorupi lacked crunch and cross poison. :( Anyways I am deciding who should be my final team member. My planned team so far is...
Final form of steel penguin, staraptor, garchomp, rhyperior, and dorapion. I was thinking of Magmortal (having thunderbolt, flamethrower, and will o wisp on the same pokemon can be very handy not to mention he looks pretty nifty), or some kind of rapid spinner like armaldo (I might give dorapion roar, so he suits my phaser roll.)
Dorapion gets whirlwind, whcih is much better.
You have a bad ice weak and lack special defense. I'd suggest either going for a Blissey, because chansey is now catchable early in the game, or you could just go for magmortar. But it seems you want dp pokemon, so get whatever you want. If you want some help with competitive battling, just ask. I'll try to do my best to support.
SulcataIxlude
04-27-2007, 06:17 AM
Oh wow didn't notice how bad my ice weak was until now. :P Maybe I'll drop garchomp (since I love the fact that rhyperior learns stone edge, earthquake, megahorn, and other attacks like that by himself.) So maybe I can replace garchomp with magmortal, and nab blissey for a special wall/healcleansingbot?
Personally, isee no point in the water starter. It's role is mainly special tank with some nice resistances, but it is so badly outclassed by many water types. >>;;
Drapion and Rhyperior do nice tanking on the physical side, but having both being weak to Earthquake won't get you anywhere. And earthquake is the most common attack. So, maybe you might want to reconsider them. Unless you have Drapion for ch haxing, but it has pretty bad attacking types.
Stratarptor or however you say it is a solid pokemon, but doesn't really seem to suit the team all too much.
I'm not really sure how to help you right now, because it seems a Tyranitar will walk all over your pokemon. >>;;
SulcataIxlude
04-27-2007, 06:31 AM
Rhyperiors trait solid rock seems to help him last a little bit longer during earthquake assaults, and I was thinking of nabbing a heracross or some fighting type for pesky rock and dark types like tyranitar. :) And I like the penguin due to all of his resistances to stuff (I know earthquake weak, but he has decent special resist like you said.)
*Grabs a assault rifle, and hunts down tyranitars.*
Lawl, don't we all wish we could just shoot those tyranitars! *joins the fun*
Thing is, even with the Hard Rock trait, itll still take hefty damage from a CBtar, bringing your only real defense against it to a quick drop, and without a decent wish pass and rhyperior having no heal, itll be gamover when its gone.
I might want to suggest a gyarados over the water starter, due to the fact that it can tank defensivly really well, even with its rock weak. Its immunity to eq helps with the team alot and a physical water is sexy.
I might even want to suggest a Glion over Drapion or Rhyperior because of its superior defenses and its immunity again. It can also easily take down Heracrosses, so itll help you alot. Although having an ice weak. >>
A jirachi would be so great here lol. Meh. I'm tired, so I'll think of better suggestions then. But ya, just think over what Im trying to say. :)

I'm up to Snowpoint City and I'm taking my sweet time doing sidequests and stuff (Unowns, etc) before taking on the gym. My current team is a female Empoleon (Bismarck), male Floatzel (Torpedo), male Luxray (Regent), female Staraptor (Strahl), and male Rampardos (Bonehead), and I'm thinking of raising a Snowver as my sixth since I want some grass power on my team. I was going to go for Weavile, but I ended up catching an Adamant Sneasel so I'm saving him for later to train him for Wifi battles. =)
It was really hard choosing what to use since there's so many Pokes I like, but at least the online connectivity encourages me to train even after story mode. (I don't know anybody around here who plays Pokemon, so I had no reason to EV train or form teams for battle.) Not yet on Wifi since I can't get my DS Lite to connect to my wireless router (even after manually setting an IP, DNS, etc), but there's hotspots nearby and I'll see about getting a USB adapter.
But yeah. Story-wise, I love how they're playing up the Pokemon mythos (mostly why I like legendaries) even if D/P has TOO MANY legendaries. It's flavor text such as the history of the region and such that really immerses me in a game's setting. :D

D/P sounds like RuSa on steroids. o_o Sandstorm deals a fixed amount of HP damage to non-rock, non-ground, non-steel types, it erases Sunny Day or Rain Dance (or Hail, pfft), and now you're telling me it also ups rock-types' SpDef by 1.5x? CRAZY. A Rhyperior with Sandstorm basically has more than a 2x resistance (spec. 2.25x) to things he's supposed to be weak to. You're better off hitting him with things he's neutral to, for Christ's sake. CRAZY. :lol:
I got my copy of Pokemon Pearl yesterday. :mrgreen: But my DS won't be here until Monday, and I have final exams on Tuesday and Thursday to prepare for, so, :(. BUT! Come the evening of May 3 ... my training will truly kick in. >D I even purchased my brandnew LinkSys wireless router just for the occasion ... especially since the official Nintendo dongle says it only supports Windows XP. :P (Silly lack of support for MacOSX.)

Meh my DS WiFi has finally died or has been stolen ironically. Pfft people don't know it's bad manners to steal from thieves. >> Looks like if I want to do WiFi things now I'll have to go to a hotspot. ;.; Oh well. Anyway made it to the 7th gym and finished. I'll be training a while and then go to the sunny town for the final badge. Then after that I'll trade my pogeys over after I beat the elite four, will take another week probably since I only have 4 pogeys Lv. 50 and no other two pogeys for my other slots since I can't find a damn Munchlax in that stupid tree next to the windmill place. So close to getting my Dyoxys and Mew to trade over hopefully for other pogeys. Meh didn't even know there was a cloning trick on Emerald but too scared to try it on any of my pogeys before tranferring them over. >>;

Got mah 5th Gym badge last night, one thing that bugged me though, Defog...why? It bloody Sucks as an HM, had to waste a spot on my starator to learn it...they should have kept flash as a HM and not change it to a Tm --;
Talon87
04-29-2007, 09:44 AM
Is Flash still necessary for some parts of the game? Or did the switch to TM come with the added-bonus of not having to ever use Flash again if you don't want to?
*absolutely hated Flash ... worst HM ever! And yet one of the Original Five! And it lasted for three generations!*
If Defog is as bad as Flash, that'll be really disappointing to see. And arnold's makin' it sound like it's even worse than Flash ... as if that could even be possible. @_@

I does...I've used it once no idea if i'll use it again in the game not that far, and i've been in one cave where I had to use flash, I jsut forgot where it was >> Defog is just like flash but I'm jsut not fond of using it on ap okemon that i generally use in the game, want it for my HM slave

Hail has somewhat of a use now Talon. It boost blizzard's accuracy by 100%, so abomasnow can make good use of it (though abomasnow despite his bad ass appearence, is weak against a lot of things from my experiences using natal in japanese diamond.)

Yeah, "Grass/Ice" has to rank up there in the list of all-time horrible type combinations as Gyarados' "Water/Flying" and Jumpluff's "Grass/Flying." I guess there is one bright side to it, though ... anybody who uses Abomasnow in serious battle can guarantee himself, "If I switch out to something that is resistant to fire, I will pwn" until people figure out that switching out to a fire-user to destroy Abomasnow is just too obvious.

And yeah, Defog sucks. I just used a filler slot on my Empoleon, which I'll erase as soon as story mode is over. Now to figure out who gets Rock Smash since I don't want to go through Victory Road with an HM slave instead of a battler missing out on some experience. At least Waterfall will be useful on my Floatzel and Rock Climb and Strength have decent power. :|

I'mma go ahead and beat up the 8th gym, or at least train for it. Thank goodness for wild Pokemon that are around the same level as my team. (I have a feeling that this time around, Victory Road will have wild pokes that provide sufficient exp for leveling for the E4.)

I've logged something between 90 minutes and 2 hours. I have a Level 13 Turtwig and a Level 11 Shinx. Pretty disappointed with the graphics and with how many trainers there are who have only got one Level 4 creature (ugh @_@), but the story seems interesting enough, the Pokétch is INCREDIBLE (hooray for the clock feature! double hooray for the pedometer for us breeders!), and my Turtwig has a Mild Personality, making his Defense pretty much the same as his Special Defense and his Special Attack almost as good as his Attack. (So far, anyway.) Perfect for the in-game story mode where he's being incorrectly effort-trained, anyway. :mrgreen:
I can't get a Friend Code yet -- apparently I have to go on to NWC to get it. That won't happen any sooner than Friday night. So, until then, I have some time to take two finals, write one paper, and play a lot of Pokemon. :mrgreen:

Crap, I just found out today that my Luxio (Level 15) is Calm, which means that I've wasted so much of the opening experience points of the game not just on an effort-mistrained creature, but on an effort-mistrained creature *AND* a creature that is supposed to have a final base attack of 120 but is now going to have a base attack of 108. Ugh. :x
The good news is, the Onix I caught (which took FOREVER to catch, too!) turns out to be a Rock Head, so I don't have to worry about trading him for something else. I look forward to having a (even if misproperly-EV-trained) Steelix on my team for the first round of online battles this month. :) Should be a nice defensive deterrent to those of you planning to barrel on through with attack sweepers. Especially now that Crunch derives from the Attack stat and Steelix can also learn Thunder Fang, Ice Fang, and Fire Fang to complement Rock Edge, Iron Tail, and Double Edge. Lots of moves to choose from, even if Steelix ought not to be used as a tank. ^_^;
So .... *sigh* ... time to deposit this Luxio, run back, capture a Level 4 or so Starly, and make sure he's got a personality which either promotes Attack at the expense of Def/SpDef/HP or one which promotes Speed at the expense of Def/SpDef/HP.

I just caught Uxie (finally!). Most tedious Pokemon I've ever tried to catch. I (don't) look forward to Azelf; if it wasn't required for the National Dex, I probably wouldn't bother. D: (Normally I'd kill it and get it over with, but since it's a unique Pokemon, I'd never forgive myself for not catching it. >_>) Otherwise, as soon as my berries near Sunyshore City grow, I'll be off to Victory Road.
Good luck on the Starly, Talon. I love my Staraptor since she kills almost everything in sight. I've always had a soft spot for the starting route birds, and I'm glad to see that one is finally a monster in combat. :)

I need the Starly more than ever now. I caught a Misdreavus after spending a total of 11 Pokeballs and 1 Great Ball on her and one other female Misdreavus that ended up getting KO'ed. So much money wasted. And for what? A Jolly Misdreavus. F*U*R*K. :x You mean to tell me, I waste all that money and time, and I get the shittiest possible nature for a Misdreavus?
I've logged just a little over 7 hours.
- Grotle @ Level 26
- Onix @ Level 21
- (Bidoof the Cut Whore)
That's my team. My team of two. (Bidoof does not count.) I'm getting ready to hit up Cycling Road, and I'm hoping to find Route 209 soon so that I can catchy myself a Starly and get to raising it. Really hoping I can find one that's Adamant or Jolly, but knowing my luck so far ... -_-;
I'd also like to get a Gyarados going, now that I finally have Experience Share. Go catch a Magikarp soon and throw Exp. Share on that boy. Problem is ... he needs to be Adamant or Jolly, too.
So basically, I'm asking God to let me win the lottery ... twice. And then I'm going to set those winning lotto tickets on fire when I raise these bad buys improperly since I'm still main-gaming things.
Wow, money doesn't even matter until you get to the casino. Plus, when you start needing to buy stuff, you can whore the E4 with Amulet Coin and get instant cash. I just stock up on Pokeballs ingame, carrying about 30 at a time. xd
Ah, Talon, just to let ya know, each pokemon has a different catch rate. More rare the pokemon is, the harder its catch rate is, so Magikarp can easily be caught by a Pokeball at full health, but stuff like Steelix would need a couple of tries. To my understanding, Misdreavus isn't that common, so it should be a bit difficult to catch.
Watching a blank ds all day is quite irritating. I need to find a Diamond fast. >>

A question for all you expert breeders out there! Let's say I wanna breed my level 53 staraptor (He has brave bird, return, close combat, and agility) with a female starly. Will the baby starly inherit the father (staraptor) moves? Also can you breed tms onto pokemon let's say if I breed my penguin with a water type that learns grass knot, will that pokemon that hatches from the egg already have it (penguin is male.)
Arnold
05-02-2007, 01:06 PM
Babies always take the Moves that male has (sometimes both mum and dad need the move like Spore on a baby Shroomish) So the baby starley Should take the moves that the father has, the baby will always be the mother.
and TM's Can be bred over, if the Baby poke has it any of it's movesets then it'll inherit the TM move it's a nice way of geting Muliple TM's of onem ove jsut get a nice breeding line gonig on and you've got infinate TM's
Talon87
05-02-2007, 06:54 PM
Arn's answer needs a little more meat to it. :| First of all, not every move the father has can be inherited. The mother's species has to be able to learn the move naturally or via TM. Second of all, not every baby can inherit four moves. Most babies inherit 2 or 3, a few inherit 4, and some inherit 1 or even no moves. It depends on the species. I don't know much about Staraptor, but if I had to guess, I'd say that you could probably get 2 or 3 of his moves onto Starly babies. Only one way to find out.
================================================== ===========
Here's a question for those of you who have good experience with EVs, IVs, and general "stats." I captured several Machop west of the Contest Hall City just now, and two of them look sort of good. However, here's the catch: the Pokemon with the Naive personality has as good an attack as the Pokemon with the Adamant personality. So, do I ...
a) throw away the Adamant Machop because his base stat for attack must really suck!, or do I
b) throw away the Naive Machop because you want an Adamant Machop (dur) and this little guy's attack will outrace the Naive Machop's pretty quickly
I don't really know how natures work, per se. Do they give a 1.1x bonus to a stat that is visible upon capture? Or do they promote 1.1x growth of the stat as the creature levels up, i.e. it's not noticeable that his nature is helping out his stats until he begins to get to Level 40 or 50 or so. Which one is it?
================================
And here's a second Machop-related question: he can have one of two abilities, Guts or No Guard. Guts says "increases attack if status is afflicted", which makes it sound like his attack will be boosted if he's poisoned, paralyzed, or burned. (Sleep and Frozen status not really mattering, obviously.) No Guard says "Makes it so that his and the foe's moves always hit." Here is my question ...
1) Which do you think is better? (Justify.)
2) Does No Guard mean that, even if the opponent uses tons of Double Teams, I will always hit? (i.e. does it make my accuracy 100% and make the foe's evasion 0%?) Or does it only affect my accuracy, and has no bearing on the foe's evasion? (i.e. if the foe uses DT, then I might miss because it's his evasion, not my accuracy, that got changed)
If No Guard means that DT is worthless, then I think that would be better. But if it only means that his accuracy is 100%, well, Machop doesn't learn too many moves with shitty accuracies (or rather, he has the ability to learn many good moves with 100% accuracy), so I think Guts might be better since No Guard also helps the enemy out (and that's never a good thing :|) and it also provides me with a reward if the opponent thinks he's going to be cheeky and burn me in order to lower my attack ("Oh? I have burn status? Oh no, whatever will I do? .... PSYCH! :P I have Guts! :lol: Your burn just got NULLIFIED, bitch!").
===========================
*wants to raise Machop, but doesn't want a shitty Machop*
SI, the baby will always be of the Mother species, unless its breeding with ditto, then the not-ditto pokemon will be in the egg. TMs and Moves are inherited from the Male side only, while natures are from the Mother's side with Everstone.
Talon, they both suck. Release all your machops if they are the best. Go catch more unless you can breed or don't care about stats.
Just to let you know, Base stats are just the numbers that indicate its BASE. It doesn't change AT ALL.
The numbers you see on a pokemon are the actual stats, which are affected by IV's, EV's, and Nature. Nature will raise the actual stat by 10%. So, if my Cranidos has 40 Atk, then with a Adamant Nature, itll have 44 attack. As your actual stat goes up, the boost gets higher, naturally. So if a ATK+ nature is the same as a ATK neutral nature, than the ATK+ nature's Machop has very sucky IVs.
IV's can't change and the only thing that affects the growth of the stat is EV's. So, they both suck pretty bad. Machamp needs SPDEF pretty badly and Speed isn't needed, so Naive nature sucks on him, while that Adamant has crappy IV's. My conclusion: Go get a new Adamant Machop.
Guts and No Guard is a hard to choose between because Guts gets a boost of 50% to ATK for ANY status it takes, even Sleep, Paralyze, and Frozen. Sleep can be abused with Sleep Talk, fyi.
DT is actually banned in Competitive battling because it is noob and depends on Luck. No Guard only ups your accuracies to 100%, so opponent isn't affected. And, Machamp can abuse a 100% accurate Stone Edge, Cross Chop, and Dynamic Punch which hurt pretty badly.
I prefer No Guard because I enjoy the STAB Cross Chop off a 130 ATK beast, criting every now and then.

Go catch more unless you can breed or don't care about stats.
You've been nothing but helpful so far, and I thank you for that, but this line really chaps my ass. :| "Don't care about stats"? Well excuse me, Mr. "I expect you to effort train properly when you have no Macho Brace and 75% of the game-mandated battles ahead of you with nothing but Bibarels and Staravias to train with." Fuck, if you're going to tell me that I suck because I'm not paying attention to effort on this first run-through, I may as well snap my game in half right now since not one person on this planet can even breed until they get to the Daycare (which I have yet to do). I mean, seriously. What the fuck's the point in properly effort-training a wild Machop? (Answer: there isn't any! Unless you're playing the game for the first time or intend to waste two of the most precious TMs in the game on this one creature, that is. Then it doesn't matter that your Machop only learns fighting and normal-type moves, his species' repertoire devoid of such necessities as Earthquake or Stone Edge.)
Like I said, you've been an awesome help, and your explanation of the natures is just what I wanted (so now I know to delete those Machops and to also abandon this Jolly Staravia I found whose speed was below a neutral-Speed Staravia's), but you don't need to be saying things like, "Pfft, you n00bs, don't even care about EVs." Yeah, we do. I'm just not keen on the idea of wasting 20 hours in the first patch of grass to properly effort train a Zigzagoon and a Zubat like I did last time with Pokemon Emerald. That was hell. If you want to do it, be my guest. But I think it's very condescending to say that we all should just "delete our monsters now" if we're not effort training them properly. How about you let us beat the game first, and then we'll delete them once we get a chance to go at the game seriously with unlimited financial resources, TMs, Daycare, etc.?
This is why I've grown to dislike Pokémon. The super-competitive people are always demanding that people like us ought to either waste 1000s of hours of our lives to make "a worthy team" or else we should just kiss dirt. I mean, jesus, I think I'd much rather have a shitty team and take those 1000 hours back. GameFreak has sadly taken a page out of Blizzard's notebook: this whole bullshit notion of "let's make it really really really really HARD to get the perfect monster, so that when somebody DOES have one, it means they could have made 20,000 USD in that same time period holding a job!"
Don't take this the wrong way (though that may be hard to do). Do realize that I am really thankful for your advice/reminders, and I'd have had to go look for them elsewhere otherwise.

Amen Talon. Amen.
I don't care if my team is 'weak' because they aren't EV trained. I do what I want in a game, and if people can't accept it, that's their problem. I don't use 'awesome' movesets. I don't get the 'best' nature for my Pokemon.
It's WAY too time consuming. If I wanted to do that, I'd go to Net Battle.
Muyotwo
05-03-2007, 02:35 AM
Dude, you're really being a jerk to Dan, calm down. He's saying unless you're going to be breeding them, or are going to head through the game without caring about stats, release them. That's really not an offensive statement, especially considering that the first time through the game most players aren't going to be effort training. They'll beat the elites, unlock the game, and then start focusing on a competitive battle team so that they don't have to fuss with the random EVs coming in from trainer battles. That way you get your macho brace and Pokerus before you start training, saving yourself huge amounts of time and hassle.
And even if he did still mean to offend you, he said it to help you out. Not something you need to go Talon ranty over.
Meh, my bad if I offended you. You were asking about stats and I autoassumed you were looking for good pokemon. I usually don't go over the edge my first time through the game, because it is impossible to do anything with the ingame pokemon you use, due to Gyms and trainers giving random EV's.
What I meant in that line was that if you want to go through the game without caring about stats. Not anything else. EV training when your playing through the game is too time consuming.
I dunno what else to say. I just assumed you were looking for a competitively able pokemon and I stated my opinion on that. If you wanted anything else, or not a competitive look on your question, you could have stated that and I probably wouldn't have answered it. :/

Augggh, I was afraid this would happen. I'm at the Pokemon League and my guys are all Lv. 47-49. -_- Whyyy are VS Seekers still inoperable in caves? The VR Pokemon give meager experience, too. Yes! After dillydallying for a few days, I finally tried out the E4 for a suicide run for exp and ended up winning (after many potions and revives, given that my team was Lv. 47-52 after I beat it). Empoleon did a lot of walling and OHKOed a few water- or ice-weak pokes (gooo choice specs!), Staraptor and Luxray did a lot of killing, and Abomasnow did a few suicide Wood Hammers on the odd grass-weak poke. I mostly had trouble with Milotic, but I eventually stalled the crap out of it and froze it as the final nail in its coffin.
And I don't know if it's me, but I managed to find a lot of treasure underground compared to past digs. I have more than enough fire and thunder stones, and I even landed some new fossils. :D I may end up raising a new Armaldo. *huggles the one with HP Bug on her Emerald*).

Probably. I've been wondering about digs myself. It doesn't make sense to me that certain areas are cordoned off permanently from the rest of the map since (so very, very often) treasure will spawn somewhere on the map that I can't get to because it's beyond an impassable wall. Could you tell me whether or not these solid walls are still there or if they now have pathways through them once you beat the E4?

- 8 Red Shards
- 6 Yellow Shards
- 1 Blue Shard
I couldn't help but notice how rare certain shards seemed (Blue, for instance; and Yellow has been pretty rare, too; there have been quite a few Red and Green shards that I've found but not been able to dig out in time in addition to the ones above). I also can't help but notice how I keep finding the same fossil over and over, and not any of the other fossils people claim you can get Underground. So I figure, I ought to quit wasting time Underground for now, go fight that French gym trainer in Hearthome, and move on with the story and leveling up.
Also ... I finally got an Adamant Staravia. His attack is 55, and his level is 26. Thoughts? (The only other Level 26 Staravia I found had an attack of 44, so I'm hoping this guy's a winner.)

I'll be reposting this post maybe once every two weeks or so (if necessary). Others may feel free to do it if they think it's necessary. I'm guessing that we're going to max out on friend codes by mid-May, though, as people either give up on getting online or finally figure out how to do so.

[...]
I also can't help but notice how I keep finding the same fossil over and over, and not any of the other fossils people claim you can get Underground..)
You have to dig in different areas to get to different parts of the map, though which I don't know (aside from Canalave leading to the bottom-right portion) because the map on GameFAQs here (http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/925601/45917) lists the Japanese names. :|
As for the fossils, the Kanto and Hoenn ones are found after the E4 and once you get the National Dex. I don't know if any are version exclusive (I got Old Amber, Helix Fossil, and a few Claw Fossils), though either I've been really lucky or I've been striking a lot of treasure that's not spheres ever since beating the E4.
Anyhow, I just now got my first shiny ever since Crystal* via PokeRadar, a male Ponyta. :D He has a bold nature, but I might attempt to train him anyways.
*Unless you want to count a Swablu I got on a Emerald ROM, but it's not an actual cartridge! D:

I went on to the Pokemon World Trade Center this evening after getting my router set up, getting my Friend Code, and hanging out with my cat outside for a bit. And oh my God! :D IT KICKS SO MUCH ASS!
Pros I was able to trade one of my many Shieldons for a Cranidos[/*:m:4006a]
I was able to trade my Jolly Misdreavus (not the one I'm raising) for a Chimchar (wrong personality, but still! Got the species!)[/*:m:4006a]
You can get Japanese creatures :mrgreen:[/*:m:4006a]
Really easy way to inflate the number of Trainer I.D.s in your PC for the PokéLottery[/*:m:4006a]
Cons You can't see all possible entries that fit your description -- just the first 5 to 7. :x [/*:m:4006a]
WAAAAAAAAAAY too many snot-nosed children in Japan and the United States are putting up easy monsters (like Buneary or Pikachu) and saying, "I want a Level 100 Palkia in return :3". F*** YOU. -_-; And the problem is (see above bullet) they waste precious slots on the search feature. I don't have time to waste on these losers, yet, it's out of my control.[/*:m:4006a]

About Digging:
I seem to always get random crap, mostly spheres (which annoy me to no end). However, I've gotten two fossils for Pearl's Fossil Poke, one of which went to QP, the other is sitting in my inventory. I've found a few stones, and a BUNCH of shards. It's just random. Also, you should be able to use your bike to get around down there. >.>
About GTS:
Meh, the two times I've gone on there, I've ONLY gotten the stupid trades. "lolz u want traed turtwig? lolz give me lvl 100 turtwig in returns lolololol" -_-;
And I now, once again, complain about the lack of WIFI UNDERGROUND. Trying to find someone who also has the game is bull, since I don't KNOW anyone near me who has it. *shakes fist at Nintendo*

I <3 GTS so long as I'm the one putting up an offer. Just today I got a Chimchar for one of the Chikoritas I bred in Emerald, thus completing my Sinnoh starter set, and in the past I've gotten plenty more good deals including pain in the ass Safari Zone Pokemon (Skorupi, Croagunk) and some nifty Japanese pokes which I'll breed since their lettering changes to English when they evolve. I just wish I could search for Pokemon I haven't seen so I could get the Kanto and Hoenn starters I don't have (Mudkip, Treecko, Squirtle, Bulbasaur).
I read on GameFAQs that the Japanese like collecting English Pokemon- which kinda works out on my end, as I find the Pokemon with Japanese characters nifty.
Edit: Searching for Pokemon with the GBA cartridge inserted is pretty much fruitless for me (even with the radar >_>). Might as well just import a Growlithe at this rate.
Edit2: Okay, so it's not a Growlithe, but an Elekid w/ Electrizer is fine too. I guess after some breeding for a decent nature I'll have the resources to raise an Electivire!

Talon, that Staravia has an Attack IV of 24-26. BTW, its impossible to have a level 26 Adamant Staravia with 44 Attack stat. I dunno, my equation might be wrong, but thats what I came up with. o.o;;

Ack! Watch the spoilers! @_@ (Even though Cynthia's identity's as obvious as Steven Stone's ...... but still! :P)
Skru, if you're at Snowpoint, then you can go back to Canalave and find the Move Deleter in one of the houses there and have him delete Rock Smash from your Bronzong. That is, if you like him and want to use him seriously. For my HM whores, I have Bibarel (Rock Smash / Surf / Cut / Strength) and Staravia (Fly / Defog). Sort of wondering what I'm going to do once I decide I want to seriously raise my Adamant Staravia (who I'm not sure I'll want to have Fly on -_-; ) and when I'll need to start using Rock Climb. Hmm .......
I just got to Snowpoint myself last night. Arduous @_@. I ran past every single trainer I could see and timed it just right so they wouldn't fight me. In the end, I only had to fight the 3 or so trainers that are unavoidable. I plan to go back through there later today with Pokemon who could use the EV + Experience ... except ... it seems like a lot of it is crap effort for my Onix (who needs Att effort badly) and my Misdreavus (who's handsomely doing well with her SpAtt, SpDef, and Speed effort ... magical secret recipe! :mrgreen: :P ;)).
Hmm ... I want to say more, but realize I can't less I commit the same crime I'm whining to Arnold about. -_-; Sorry, Arnold. -_-;
EDIT: By the way, I've figured something out about the GTS. It seems like most of the sweet deals get picked up pretty quickly, and it also seems like older deals get seniority over newer ones for showing up. The consequence of which is, a lot of the Japanese snot-year-olds who have put up popular monsters for trade and asked for retarded rewards (like a Chimchar for a Palkia) have been shot down by people yet left their trades up. Maybe they forgot about the game? Maybe they're seriously hoping some day somebody will trade them a Palkia for a Chimchar? I dunno. All I do know is, they're clogging the system, and Nintendo needs to reset the trades every 48 hours instead of what looks like every week or month or whatever they've got going on.
'Cause I've never had to wait longer than an hour for a trade to work. In real-time, I've seen them go in under 10 minutes twice. Pretty nice turn-around. Or maybe I'm just a generous soul, offering my Shieldons for Mime Jr.'s and stuff. :mrgreen:

One doubles battle away from the fight atop the summit of Mt. Coronet. (Seven badges into the game)
Torterra - Level 62 (messed-up EV)[/*:m:5d0c2]
Misdreavus - Level 43 (proper EV? a little questionable, but I like my strategy)[/*:m:5d0c2]
Onix - Level 40 (I screwed up ... he has 82 for his HP @_@ ... his speed is higher than that, another accident)[/*:m:5d0c2]
Bibarel - HM whore (Surf, Cut, Rock Smash, and soon to have Waterfall)[/*:m:5d0c2]
Staravia - HM whore (Fly, Defog)[/*:m:5d0c2]
Machoke - HM whore (Rock Climb, Strength)[/*:m:5d0c2]
So basically ... I have one Pokemon which might be usable for online fights. And, I have a sickeningly overpowered Torterra who's ready to clean up the Elite 4. I really don't know what you're all complaining about, but the way I see it, by the time I get to the E4, my Torterra's going to be at Level 72. And he's going to have his sickeningly high Attack (who knows what it will be by then) and his well-over-200 HP (currently 214). I don't foresee much of a problem with beating the E4 on my first try. :| Not unless they throw Sneasel after Sneasel after Sneasel at me.
==================================================
Interesting plot. (Would say more, but I'd be violating my own advice.)
==================================================
I had my first trade rejection ever on the GTS. I put up a Shieldon for a "Chimchar, any level, but must be female" and got no bite for over 12 hours. Took it down, I currently have a female Sudowoodo @ Lvl 29 up there and am asking for a Croagunk in exchange. Figure, "May as well, I'd rather not have to go into the Safari Zone for the umpteenth time only to find 0 Croagunk and 0 Skorupi."
==================================================
What was up with the seventh gym trainer wearing shorts underneath her skirt? It was billowing into the air, showing her "panties," and my first thought was, "Wow. 8O ... for the otaku, huh? :roll: " But then I looked closer and realized they were just a pair of shorts ... wait a second, "just" a pair of shorts!? Who wears shorts underneath a skirt!?

I saw a Croagunk tonight, level 29, and the kid wanted a Level 50 Croagunk in return. What the hell. Just beat Volkner, like, seconds ago. What a wickedly easy gym for my Level 66 Torterra. :lol: I can see how it might have given me more trouble if I'd raised an Empoleon to that level and neglected the rest of the team, though.
Time to find the Waterfall HM, go explore Sinnoh a bit more (TONS of waterfalls we've come across on our way!), figure out if I can't find Cyrus before heading to Victory Road, and make an effort to catch Mesprit, Uxie, and and Azelf. (Torterra's more than beefy enough to endure their hits, and he OHKOs them with all of his moves, so I can wall against them. It's just, I want to catch them in PokéBalls. :cry: Won't settle for an Ultra Ball like I did with Palkia, because I panicked, because I didn't think we'd be catching Palkia so soon and I had only one creature at full health (Torterra) with almost no Revives and absolutely no Sleep/Freeze moves on the team. Stupid Impish Ultra Balled Palkia. :|
Really need to find a Metal Coat. When I do, I'd LOVE to trade with one of you guys online so that I can get my Onix to become a Steelix. Let me know if you're interested in executing a similar "must be traded to be evolved" trade. (FYI, I don't need Machamp, Alakazam, Gengar, Golem, or Steelix for completing my Owned Creatures list, if you're interested in trying to help me complete my 'dex. But I'm also willing to receive and return the above creatures to help you out, for your own sake, if you've raised a Machoke, Kadabra, etc.)
A little tired of waiting, so I'll ask -- I've gotten to every city on the main island and I don't see anybody selling Dusk Stones. Of the stones I've dug up underground, none have been anything besides the traditionals (Moon Stone, Water Stone, Leaf Stone). I have a Dusk Stone, and I would like to use it on Misdreavus soon, but not if it's the only one in the game. So please confirm for me if Dusk Stones are limitless or finite. :|
=========================================
Current Team - 46 hours in
- Torterra - Level 66 (bad EV)
- Misdreavus - Level 44 (proper EV? interesting, to say the least)
- Onix - Level 41 (messed up but had good EV intentions)

Let's agree on a time tomorrow. I will likely be awake no later than 1pm EST. I will try to be sure to check UPN by 2pm. So, any time after 2pm EST tomorrow that works for you. Just let me know when. (Can include up till 3am the next day.)
Also, what do you want in exchange for ... whatever you're giving me? (I still need the Rare Tree creatures like Combee, though I did manage to get a Japanese Munchlax. Also in need of a Piplup. Wouldn't hurt to have any female D/P starters if you have spares, though I have male Torterra and Chimchar.) Come to think of it, I probably won't be able to trade with you for things I really really really want (like Caterpie, Pidgey, Eevee, Togepi ...) until I beat the E4 and get the National PokeDex. Seeing as I've investigated pretty much every single waterfall I can remember (except for the one inside Mt. Coronet, near the summit), I'm poised to go tackle Victory Road and kick the Elite Four's asses. I think my Level 67 Torterra should be able to handle it, no sweat.
Any word on whether or not I should spend my (currently) single Dusk Stone on Misdreavus? I haven't been able to find any confirmation about Dusk Stones being a held item and/or being excavatable in the Underground. Hmm. :( (It ought to be, I'm sure, seeing as I did dig up the stone which evolves Togetic.)
EDIT: http://www.serebii.net/diamondpearl/pickup.shtml Apparently the PickUp items have changed since Emerald. I can't wait to trade over my max-effort Linoone from Emerald. :D One of them is as properly effort trained as a Level 70 Linoone can be for attack sweeping (he works handsomely in-game, anyway) and the other, aptly named Kuso, is pure crap but still Level 47.
Hooray for infinite Dark Stones. :3

After a few days of messing around in the post-E4 game, I'm thinking of organizing a whole new team- it's not that I don't love my current in-game team, but with Wifi and stuff I actually feel motivated to train more Pokemon (regardless of whether they're UU or OU, since I'll remain a casual battler) and pump them full of proper EVs and movesets. Not gonna worry too much about IVs, though- as long as the nature and ability's good, I'll utilize it. I could never get into the Battle Frontier, but I'm hoping that Wifi and (to a lesser extent) the Fight Area will pique my interest for a change. I also wanna do some contests since they interest me much more than the ones in RSE.
So far I'm set on raising a Weavile, Breloom (Attack and Speed EV trained w/ Spore and False Swipe for catching Pokemon), Leafeon, and Absol (caught and Adamant female in a swarm yesterday, though I want Super Luck and not Pressure so I'll just breed her), though there's plenty more I'm entertaining the idea of. There's too many choices I find to be awesome out there, and it's hard to choose what to use. D:

One thing I dont like is how you cant get your old Pokemon. >.< I never bought red/green so I can't get alot of them. ;;
Once you beat the Elite Four, you can ...
Use the Pal Park to transfer six monsters a day (maximum) from one of your old gamepaks to your copy of Pearl. They will come with the exact effort, stats, nature, item attached, everything as if you were doing a normal trade. They just opted to make it look a little different from a typical trade, that's all. No idea why they put a 6-creature cap on us, considering kids will ALWAYS transfer their six strongest creatures over if their intent is to blow away people online.[/*:m:61098]
Go back to a lot of old areas on the map to find RBYGSCRSE creatures. Like Zigzagoon, Pidgey, Lickitung, that sort of stuff.[/*:m:61098]
I'm guessing (could be wrong, but it doesn't make sense any other way) that once you beat the Elite 4, you're allowed to ask for and search for any monster on the GTS. (I say this because it simply doesn't make sense for kids to ask for Palkia if they've got a Palkia already and need a Dialgia, yet there are SO MANY kids asking for Palkia on the GTS.) Until then, you're in the same boat as me -- you're allowed to offer anything you own up for a trade, but you only request creatures which you have also seen or owned.[/*:m:61098]Between #1 and #2, you'll get quite a few of your precious creatures back. And if my guess for #3 is right, then hell, you've got every creature in the game already. Legendaries aside, the GTS is very convenient like that.

GTS still only applies to the Pokemon you've seen. As for the people asking for Dialga/Palkia, the elder in Celestic Town shows you a picture of the oher game's legendary for Pokedex completion. You need to complete the Sinnoh Dex to unlock Pal Park and non-Sinnoh Dex Pokemon, but you only need to see the pokemon for them to count. Basically if you fight every trainer, visit Solaceon Ruins and Celestic Town, then beat the E4, your bases will be covered.

Wait ... does completing the Sinnoh Dex entail catching every form of Unown? O_o (And along with that, does it entail seeing every gender of dual-gendered species who usually show up in their male-only form in-game, like Alakazam?) I sure hope to God it's just seeing species and not having to see every form ... -_-;
And as for the GTS, you do still have to have seen it before you can ask for it? D: That sucks. Real bad. That means it's impossible for people like me to ever broker a deal for the RBY starters. Which I so badly want and need. Hooray for having UPN friend codes, but still ... D:

Double-post-bump to notify SI and make a general update.
SI, it's 2pm, but I just got to the Elite 4's doors. As in, the fight with Jun. So, give me another hour or so.
Generic update:
- caught a Steelix, its level is higher than my mistrained Onix, so I might just raise the Steelix properly :| ... *sigh at all of the Defense and Speed and Attack effort wasted on Onix ... not to mention all of the experience points -_-; *
- Torterra's at Level 71 now, and he's an absolute monster. After being intimidated by a Level 49 Staraptor, he still destroyed it with a Wood Hammer. A Wood Hammer, to which Staraptor has a 2x resistance. Go, Torterra, go! >D
- I see what quilava_plush meant. Victory Road was basically filled with all of the evos for "trade-only Pokemon" whose lesser forms appear in the main quest (Gengar, followed by Machamp, followed by Golem) and the "special circumstances which you may not figure out if you're a little kid not using Serebii's info pages" creatures like Chimecho and Blissey. I wonder what my PokéDex completion is at now ...
- I'm wondering if I should go catch Mesprit, Uxie, and Azelf now or save them until after the main quest. Probably wait until afterward, since Mesprit is a bitch without a Wobbuffet (stupid wanting to catch a fleeing Legendary in a PokéBall ;_; ) and Uxie and Azelf aren't admittedly much better when my creatures are either too weak to withstand their might (everybody but Torterra) or are too powerful to touch them (Torterra). I really need a sleeper. I might consider trading a Level 45 Medicham from Victory Road for that one girl's Haunter (in Snowpoint City) if I can get the Medicham to have the right personality. Don't want a Jolly Haunter. -_-;

And yes to the GTS. >_< I can probably get the Kanto starters through the Leaf Green I bought as a restart-game and trigger certain wild Pokemon in D/P, but I'd really like Treecko and Mudkip as well as a Ho-oh (the only other option being playing through Mt. Battle on Colosseum >_>).

THAT WAS SO WEIRD! XD
I didn't know that the microphone would be working, since I don't have a headset. You sounded really crackly and quiet, and it was really hard to understand you -- I think the headset would probably fix that. Maybe I should invest the $15 it would take to buy the headset.
So weird ..............
And if anybody wants to know what I sound like without playing Pokeymans, I'm pretty sure Loki saved those "apple, arrow" wav files from way back. Right around when my laptop DIED, hence, I don't have them myself. If not ... *shrug*.

Well, that was thoroughly humiliating. :|
I got my ass handed to me by Aaron, the first member of the Elite 4. His first four creatures Toxified my behemoth Torterra and brought him down to 20 HP (out of ~270) and brought Mismagius down to 40 HP. But then I encountered ... Vespiquen. *shudder* Who would have thought that my Torterra would, at one point in the battle, deal only 2.5% of her total health bar-worth of damage to her? She, a Level 54. And he, a Level 72. Daaaaamn. I need a fire Pokemon or a flying Pokemon. :| Time to go raise an Adamant Starly, eh? (This is going to be so painful without a Macho Brace, though. -_-; )
Deciding to retreat, I turned off my DS Lite, turned it back on, and went to the GTS to see if anybody had picked up my Machoke in exchange for a Finneon. (Still no takers; is Finneon that rare?) Out of curiousity, I clicked on Dialga ... and what did I behold?
"Will trade Level 48 Dialga for Piplup, any gender, any level"
8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O
Too bad I lack Piplups! :cry: Holy shit, if that had said "Chimchar," I'd have traded away my solitary Chimchar IMMEDIATELY. Can you imagine what sort of deals I'd be able to broker with a Dialga!? So, if you're reading this post soon after I've made it, go to the GTS IMMEDIATELY and see if that Piplup deal is still there! (Probably not; a deal like that is too smoking hot to last more than 5 minutes.)
I then decided to check out Palkias ...
"Will trade Level 100 Palkia for Lucario, any gender, any level"
Again, I say, 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O
So I put Riolu in the daycare, signed on to the computer to find out who she breeds with, and was disappointed to discover, "Riolu does not breed. Lucario breeds. But to get Lucario, you need a Riolu who is happy and it also has to be daytime."
-_____________-;
So I repeat, if you have a spare Lucario, get your butt on the GTS IMMEDIATELY and trade it in for a free Palkia. Which is a one-way ticket to getting a free Dialga (if you already own Pearl).

In Pastoria City, there's a bug catcher that will give you a Macho Brace if you show him all three forms of Burmy at the same time. It's easy if you get a female Burmy (from honey trees) then breed it for two more and fulfill the requirements to change them to whatever form. Of course, if you don't have a Burmy then I don't mind trading my three over since I don't need 'em any more.
And as for those trades- holy crap, if I'd only seen those sooner... o_o

Yeah, those trades were INSANE. I'm so not shitting ... my Level 3 Riolu (leveled up by walking to and from the Daycare to get her back out) should be proof enough of that. :cry: Man ... there are two kids in this world who really f***ed up big time, and there are two other kids in this world who got MAJORLY lucky yesterday. Easiest legendaries ever ... at least until I see a deal offering a Mew in exchange for a Starly ............
I would very much like to get those Burmy. Go ahead and PM me a time to get on (between NOW and 2am), and I'll get on to the WiFi connection downstairs in the PokéCenter and connect to you. What do you want in return? (Still haven't beaten the E4, still have an incomplete PokéDex, and thus, I can't offer you cool rare shit via Ditto sex. Sorry. :( If I can figure out who Vespiquen breeds with, I could try to get you a female Combee if you need one. Or I could give you a token "trade me to evolve me" creature from RBY if you need one for 'Dex purposes.) If there's nothing I have to offer, would it be okay to get those Burmy in exchange for random Safari Zone creatures like Quagsire and Hoothoot? (That sort of stuff.)
Do they have to be female Burmy? I have a male grassy Burmy who is poised to evolve into Mothim (Lvl 22). I haven't let him evolve yet though. So all I need are the other two Burmy, right?
EDIT: I forgot to mention that, if you want to, all I need to do is fly to Pastoria, show the kid the Burmy, get the Macho Brace, go back to a Pokémon Center, and give you back your Burmy in exchange for my crap. I by no means have to / intend to keep the Burmy forever. You're more than welcome to take them back and evolve them into Wormadam for your own 'Dex. Just give me the 5-10 minutes it takes to get out of the Center, get to the kid, get the Brace, get back to the Center, and get back on the WiFi connection.

To Lindsay: Kuno's got your back. ;D
To Kuno: So ... how does one spread the infection? E.g. if I get the PokeRus on a Magikarp that you trade to me, how do I keep the PokeRus around forever AND spread it from Magikarp to Mismagius, Onix, Starly, and other guys I'm effort training?
To SulcataIxlude: Heart Scales are easy pickings in the Underground. Without even trying, I have gotten somewhere close to 15, and have used three to date. I'm so Heart Scale-happy. After a battle it has like a 50-75% chance of spreading to a pokemon next to it. And by next to it I mean the spot above or below it. So if you put it in the #2 spot, after a battle with a trainer or wild poke you can have it on the first and third.
Give it to alot of guys and then just store them.

We need your Friend Code more than ever now, dude. Also, it's too bad that you can't advertise more than the following on the GTS; otherwise, you'd probably be able to get some nice monsters out of a PokéRus'sed creature:
- species
- shininess
- gender
- level
- held item
They really need to update the GTS (maybe with the Yellow/Crystal/Emerald equivalent for 4th gen?) to include the following searchable and listable features:
- nature
- ability
- effort points (at the very least, say "none", "some", or "complete"!)
- Pokerus?
- coolness, toughness, beauty, etc. (how many Poffins and of what kinds has it been fed?)
- moves (such an OBVIOUS feature, omitted! :x )

By the way, I'm willing to breed and trade off eggs or offspring of Feebas, Eevee, all Johto and Sinnoh starters, Torchic, and Charmander (though Squirtle and Bulbasaur may be added once I can confirm to myself if I can even migrate from an incomplete Leaf Green game). I just got a metal coat in-game yesterday, and I have a few spares lying around (from Colosseum and I -think- Emerald and XD and Fire Red; didn't use any in third gen regardless, so I definitely have at least one to spare) so I'm willing to send it over.
I ended up catching Mild and Quiet Dittos among the few I encountered; I never raised a Milotic, so I'm not certain if either are second-best to Modest or suffice just as well for Milo. At least they give a SpAtk boost and, most importantly, can be efficient in getting enough beauty points to evolve Feebas (along with Pamtre berries, which I started growing a lot of and don't mind sharing since it took me a while to get one in Amity Square).
Now to hunt for some dinner.

Skrusti, you're a big fat liar about the Dusk Ball being good in caves. -_-; Did you even TRY before giving me that turdy advice? :| I wasted a ton of Dusk Balls trying to get an Onix in the red-HP-zone back in Oreburgh, and I just threw two Dusk Balls at this Level 46 Steelix to see if I should listen to you. Both broke without a single shake. Even the friggin' Great Ball did better than that. :| I think Dusk Balls are good for 20's and 30's-leveled Pokemon at night that aren't rare. And while I'm not so battling inclined to offer sound advice, Dig may be a better temporary alternative to EQ since its base power is now 80. While it's no better than Fly, it might be a decent temporary ground-type move for a temporary (part) ground-type Pokemon. The only thing that might compete with the surprise-fun of talking with you was the fact that you had that Spinda. I am so moved, as the most unofficial pseudomember of the FB community ever, to have had such an impact like that. Although I have to share credit with Loki, who took my irate comment and popularized it with his excellent 4-panel comic, "What would happen if Talon joined FB ..."
Supwise indeed. I was very supwised. And I can happily report that Spinda hatred has been all but forgotten as I focus my negative emotions on that infernal Bibarel. Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie!
Is it just me, or might Spinda have some competition, though? Mantyke's PokéDex entry claims that every Mantyke has a different pattern on its back. I'm wondering if that's going to show up in battles (and once he becomes a Mantine) or if it's just baseless flavor text.
Bold Feebas is best if you want a Competitive Milotic. You don't even need to have Pamtre's. After like 8 blue pokeblocks made from Kelpsy Berries, my Feebas maxed out, but it was a Modest one, so it might have gotten more from each block. So if you use a Pamtre, itll only take a little till you get a Max beauty Bold Milotic.
Oh ya, does anyone happen to have the stone that evolves Roselia? It would be freaking awesome if I could get it.

I've got one, but only one. It's findable in the Main Story mode. Highlight for spoiler below.
Unless memory serves me poorly, it's the final item you find in the fun adventure on Iron Island. You get it after getting the egg from the guy with the feather-in-his-hat. You ride an elevator up, are in a room with one PokeBall-item, and it's the item.
So if you're wondering how long it takes to get here, here's the answer: you have to be ready to go to Canalave City, i.e. you have to be able to Surf, i.e. you have to have beaten Gym 5. Once you can go to Canalave City, you can get on the boat that takes you to Iron Island and go on this very brief adventure to get the stone.
If you have friends with Linoone / Aipom / Meowth / Pick Up creatures, it's become a Pick Up item in D/P. The moment I get my Level 70 Linoone over, I should be getting the Dusk and ????? (Dawn? Light? I forget what it's called) Stones like crazy.

I think she said, "Give Steelix Dig." But I don't intend to teach anybody Dig as I never, ever use TMs which I have a limited quantity of. (Even if I have many of them, courtesy of having gotten them in Ruby, Emerald, and Colosseum ... a.k.a. I have at least 3 or 4 Dig TMs now.) I did the same thing with Psychic in RBY, until somebody finally convinced me to spend one of them on Starmie because he kicked ass and he needed it badly. I really, really hate using a TM and never being able to take it back. I'd love it if they did away with TMs crumbling away when you use them and made them permanent. It would save me so much time with trading monsters over from Ruby and Emerald to Diamond, too. -_-;
As for the first guy in the Elite 4 ... spoiler text below.
He's a BUG TRAINER. Bugs are resistant to ground. And more specifically, his bugs are all Bug/Flying except for Heracross. So they're immune to ground (unless I use Lead Ball, but still, we return to the "resistant to ground" complaint). They're also 4x resistant to his grass attacks (and Heracross 2x), so all he can do is Crunch them to death. But it's tough. Especially against Vespiquen, who uses Defend the Swarm twice, then heals up using her recover Swarm move, more Defend, more heal, more Defend, more Heal, and then I can't do jackshit to her. Even if her own attacks suck, too.
I thought about using a Heart Scale to give Mismagius back the move "Perish Song", but Mismagius doesn't have the power to remember Misdreavus' moves. :x Suck. So that won't work.
I've also thought about sending out my Level 14 Stunky with a Quick Claw and having him use Toxic, but that's sheer desperation right there.
My basic hope for defeating the first member of the Elite 4 is BRUTE FORCE. I'd like to get Mismagius fully effort trained and raise his level up to 60; and I'd like to continue to raise Torterra up to Level 80 (a little ambitious, I know, but I think I might be able to do it in a sane amount of time; we'll see). If that doesn't pan out, I could always try teaching Mismagius Hyper Beam and praying that one Hyper Beam from his souped-up SpAtt stat will be enough to roast that she-devil of a [spoiler]. But I'd like to avoid that for now. Having a normal attack on a ghost who specializes in SpAtt feels ... SO WRONG.

Talon I have a super awesome suprize for you! I will give it to ya asap (a hint: one of your most favorite Pokemon that can easily help you thrash the crap outta the first elite four member.)
Btw I finally defeated the elite four. Wasn't too bad. Istiqal, Mesjid, and Es Biru thrashed that place badly. ;) Also I recently snagged a cradily. I might make it calm, max out its special defense and hp, and use it as a semi special wall or something.

Well, you have Pokemon Pearl, so I'm doubting it's a Larvitar ... Bulbasaur wouldn't be able to help ... Weezing isn't much good for attacking ... Butterfree's no better than Mismagius ... Meganium's in the same camp as Bulbasaur ... so is Bellossum ... so is Vileplume ... maybe it's a Charmander? In which case, hell yes. XD Except, Charmander should probably be bred for the right personality, IVs, and be given the right EVs before I try to raise one for real. I'll still accept it, though, if it is a Charmander.

Kuno, I don't need a Pokerus infected Pokemon anymore. :mrgreen:
Started up my game last night and checked the GTS. I had put up a Machoke for trade for a Level 9 or lower Chimchar, any gender. Well, it got traded, and I went to check its stats...
"PkRS" is next to its name on the stats page. Unbelieving, I went to a Pokemon Cetnre, and...yup. Someone traded me a newly hatchec Chimchar with Pokerus, and with Flamethrower as an egg move. Sweet. :3

So when do you want your awesome elite four pwning surprize Talon? ;) Anyways I transfered over two rhyhorns from emerald (along with a macho bracer and some heart scales), and now they are busy having sex so I can raise their adamant rock head trait son or daughter to be a member of SI's 1337 killing squad. :) Besides that I also transfered over my lonely natured Kirlia, and if I can find a ralts for it to mate with (and find a dawn stone) I'll raise a deadly gallade. Then I just need a ninjask (most fave evolved Pokemon next to crawdaunt), raise it so he can be my baton passer of death, then all I need to do is find a replacement for es biru (most likely it will be a swampert) and I'll be good. :)
Team so far
Jahat the Drapion: level 50 (Jolly)
Mesjid the Azelf: level 58 (Modest)
Rujak the Rhyperior (Adamant)*
Itabo the Ninjask (Hasty or some +speed nature)*
Golok the Gallade (Adamant)*
Lumpur the Swampert (Sassy or some +defense or +special defense nature)*
* Means not on my team as of yet.

Thanks for the Vulpix. One of my favorite creatures ever, even if I don't like how it was used in RuSa. I sure hope it'll be more up my alley in D/P. I still need to catch the Golden Vulpix, though. :| If it's a girl, Celine. If it's a boy, Nagato.
My Pokerus is spreading successfully -- my Adamant Staravia caught it, so I went ahead and deposited Steelix (who also got it) and Magikarp (from Kuno, the origin of the virus) and now Staravia is sandwiched between an Alakazam and Vulpix. However, here's my concern: I don't like the look of the smilie (after the virus goes away), so I don't want it to spread to Torterra and Mismagius (who already HAVE their Effort Ribbons). Here's my question:
If I put Gonbe/Munchlax (who already has a smilie, i.e. he's done with the virus) in between Torterra and Staravia ...... will the virus "skip over" Gonbe and infect Torterra? Or will Gonbe act like a shield protecting Torterra? If the latter, hooray. If the former ... how many days do I have to wait it out before they quit infecting each other? :|
EDIT: Considering how amazingly quickly the virus spreads if you battle, I am inclined to conclude (initially) that the virus does indeed find itself "blocked off" by Pokemon with smilies. Why? Observe:
Torterra, uninfected[/*:m:9c43c]
Munchlax, has the smilie[/*:m:9c43c]
Staravia, the "current" source for the phage[/*:m:9c43c]
Steelix, one of Staravia's first victims[/*:m:9c43c]
Bibarel, got it one fight after Steelix[/*:m:9c43c]
Machoke, got it one fight after Bibarel[/*:m:9c43c]I have fought at least 10 different creatures with Torterra on the infected team, and still he has not caught the disease. (GOOD!) So it does look like immunity can be used to protect Pokemon from their sickly peers. Awesome. Just have to wall them off between the border and an immunized creature (like Gonbe).

Talon, an infected Pokemon can only give the virus to a Pokemon RIGHT ABOVE or RIGHT BELOW them. So, if your Torterra is in the TOP left spot, and Munchlax is to its right, and Staravia is underneath Torterra, it's not gonna spread.
So yeah. Understand?

Already understood. -_-; Kuno already told me that last night. What I was unclear on still was, "If the Pokemon directly above the spreader has already had it, will the virus 'skip over him' to the next candidate? or will it be dead in its tracks?" And yes, I already confirmed that it dies in its tracks. So .................................................. .......................

A quick question, how early can you breed? Badgewise time would be good, like saying before Badge 3 or something. I haven't memorized anything of the 4th gen yet. >>;;
Also, QP, if you could, would you trade me a Spiritomb if you get one? I mean, not your only one, but an egg so you can keep yours. I've been looking for some reasonable Spiritombs, but people ask for so much... >>;; I'd like one before the E4, so maybe I could give you an IOU or something.

What's so great about Spiritomb? I thought most people only wanted him for 'Dex completion.
As for breeding, spoiler:
It's in Solaceon, the town you get to after heading east from Hearthome. Thus, you can begin breeding after having obtained only two gym badges, though you must be ready to get your third so your levels wil probably be in the high 20s at best, mid-30s at worst (since we're calling "growth" a bad thing in this case).
The real catch is getting females for the species you want to breed *AND* males who know the moves you want to breed. Maybe you've got some cool tricks up your sleeve I don't know about, but I think it's FAR too early for you to be thinking about breeding. :| I can't imagine you have potential dads who know the moves you want them to pass on already ...
Spiritomb is pretty sexy. It has no weak, well except for Foresighted fighting moves, but other than that, it is really cool. It has decent stats, good defenses and attacking stats, but crappy speed and mediocre hp. It can take hits decently, but it has no healing move except for Pain Split, so that was what I was going to do. Catch a Misdreavus and breed it if I could get a female Spiritomb.
However, I just realized that I have a Diamond version, so that is out of the picture. But I still like Spiritomb and will probably use one for some time.
BTW, what do you mean by growth? I didn't get the second half of your spoiler. :/

Completely random question:
Do you get effort if you use EXP Share? Also, is there any way to reset the "Counter" Poketch app?
Talon87
05-12-2007, 02:36 PM
Do you get effort w/ Experience Share? YES, at least you did in Emerald. I don't imagine it's changed, and I've been banking on that with my Staraptor. Level 40, every last morsel of his experience (and thus Att and Speed effort) coming from Exp. Share while Torterra does the fighting and (more importantly) running away from Gravelers. If I'm wrong, then my Staraptor has zero effort. Which still isn't too bad. But yeah, in Emerald and Ruby (at the very least Emerald! personally confirmable), effort did carry over with Exp. Share.
Can you reset the Counter app? Absolutely. Hit the red button. :P ;) When you get back to the app, it'll be at 0.
Can I get a Misdreavus? Absolutely. I don't have any spares at the moment, but I'm out all day anyway. (Less than an hour away from hitting the road to drive to Purdue for graduation; won't be home until 6pm EST or so.) When it becomes night time, Misdreavus shows up in the Eterna Forest and Lost Tower, so I'll try to get you a male from the Lost Tower. You can trade me anything you want for it, although there are a few Diamond-exlusive things I still lack. (I have Stunky, Murkrow, and Mime Jr., though, which I think covers your bases if you're still really early in the game.) If nobody beats me to the trade, ichimaru, consider the Misdreavus the least I can do for all of your excellent help.
Regarding Spiritomb: he sounds like Sableye, though. :\ "Great unless somebody uses Foresight, in which case, watch out for Fighting!" "Above average stats here, below average stats there, but nothing too stellar." I dunno. I haven't fought him yet (not even in my Sinnoh Seen Dex yet!), so I don't know if I'll think he's cakewalk or not. But the way I see it, anybody who's Ghost and Dark is automatically susceptible to attacks from ghost and dark attacks. (1x damage, sure, but hittable.) And those moves are getting pretty snazzy these days, with Crunch being 80 power physical and then Shadow Ball covering your other base as 80 power special. Unless you invest all of your effort into making Spiritomb a "sponge" of sorts, I don't see how he'll have the greatest staying power in the world. Yet. Maybe I need you to kick my ass with him first and then I'll change my mind. XD
Regarding Pain Split: Yeah, I like it, too, but sometimes I'm not sure if it's as sexy as Endeavor + Quick Attack. That's a really sweet combo when you've got the Choice Band on. Now, if only I could teach Explosion to the same creature ..................... (too bad Explosion is banned in so many fights, and even all the Colosseum battles -_-; )

On another unrelated note, catching Mespirt and the other guys is so gayyyyyyyy. I chucked like 40 ultra balls at one, while asleep and 1 bar of life left and nothing. -.-
I'm tempted to use my Masterball on them, but Ill probably just get my Bronzong higher to survive better instead. I can catch them whenever I want right or is there a time limit?
The only real thing that I like about Spiritomb is that it won't be OHKO'd by any attack. Foresight is nonexistant in Competitive, so almost everything will be neutral on him. However, a Choice Spec'd Draco Meteor from a Max Sp Atk Salamence will OHKO. :/
This is excluding anything Uber. >>;;

Well, basically it was a combination of people saying, "When are you getting the game?" and, "Why aren't you getting it? You loved the game," and then a constant supply of UPN people who come up and ask, "Help me with my team!" and when I say I don't have the game they go, "But you're the best one I can turn to!"
Anyway, if I end up smoking cigarettes or shooting heroine or being an alcoholic, I will blame Pokemon as the gateway drug and blame many of you people for it.
How do I find out what my friend code is? Also, after I beat this game, I will offer anyone who is willing to take them to take as many Bagons as they like. They will likely have an obscure [Letter][Number] name, but deal with it, a lot have nice stats from all the incest I forced upon them. Some might be retarded. xd.
Also, does anyone know if it's true that you get to pick which form Deoxys takes? Cuz if it is, I'm willing to try and beat my LG or Em to try and get more Deoxys. I got one on FR, but it's personality sucks. Dunno about it's stats though @_@.
Talon87
05-13-2007, 12:31 AM
If you don't mind parting ways with the FR Deoxys because of his shitty personality, I'll happily take him off your hands temporarily only to give him back, seeing as I don't use legendaries but would be interested in possibly trying, for the first time since Pokemon Blue, to get a complete Pokedex. It seems like the advent of the GTS is going to make this a serious possibility since Nintendo (if they're not fucking retarded -_-) will probably discontinue "TOYS R US DAY :3, YAY! *Krusty the Klown chuckle + Spindas running by*" and opt to begin holding event days on the calendar where anybody who goes to the NFC and types in a certain friend code will be routed (through a cool Nintendo server) to one of many automated bots which will "want to trade" legendaries for random crap. Hello, Mew, Celebi, Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus ... if not additionally the possible-yet-difficult to acquire Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-oh, Latios, Latias, Jirachi, and Deoxys.
You find out your friend code the same way I did -- you probably already got the Pal Pad and told it, "Dude, I don't have wifi -_-; " so here's what you're going to have to do:
When you turn on the game, don't immediately click on your file. Click on the Nintendo WiFi options. (Beneath "Start New Game")[/*:m:6b1a8]
It'll prompt you to search for a wifi hotspot. Do so.[/*:m:6b1a8]
Find your wifi router. If you don't have one, go to McDonald's or something.[/*:m:6b1a8]
If prompted, enter in your WEP password (for secure access point-routers, like mine ;3)[/*:m:6b1a8]
Okay, NOW you can start your game.[/*:m:6b1a8]
Go to the basement of any Pokemon Center.[/*:m:6b1a8]
Talk to the lady at the far right. Tell her you want to check your friend code.[/*:m:6b1a8]
Maybe it won't let you do it? I forget if this did it for me or not. If so, great. If not, then this is what I got to make it work: exit out of that, and talk to one of the two remaining women. They will ask you if you want to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi. Don't worry about not having a friend code yet (if #7 didn't work out), just DO IT.[/*:m:6b1a8]
Now you'll DEFINITELY have your friend code. Go ahead and exit out.[/*:m:6b1a8]
Now, for certain, if you go and talk to the lady on the right, she'll let you look at your friend code.[/*:m:6b1a8]
Write it down and/or post it here! :)[/*:m:6b1a8]
Going to go get the Misdreavus since nobody else has posted here saying they'll offer to do it. Let me know if/when you'll be on, ichimaru. Since I have stuff to do, I won't be checking here systematically. It'll be sort of sporadic, like, "When Torterra runs out of PP so I have to go heal him to get back more, THAT'S when I'll remember, 'Oh shit! Gotta go help ichimaru!' " But I should be able to get you a male Misdreavus. I'm hoping IVs and personality don't matter, as Misdreavus can be semi-expensive to catch. :| At least they were when I caught the two I've caught so far.

Crap. Kuno's talking about Larvitar. He must have lapped me. ¬_¬
good effort unless indicated otherwise
- Torterra, Level 77 (bad effort)
- Mismagius, Level 50+
- Staraptor, Level 44
- Steelix, Level 44 (sort of bad effort :|)
- HM whore
- HM whore
Staraptor is just 6 effort points away from completion -- he's got 254 Speed and 254 Attack, so since the cap's 252 (iirc), it means I've hit those limits and need to get him his 6 HP-promoting effort. Then he will be done, and ready to rock gaining his last few levels to get to 50 such that he can murder Aaron. Victory will be sweet. And my Level 77 Torterra will show NO MERCY!
I can't believe I've logged 66 hours before beating the Elite 4. ¬_¬ Even my first run through Blue didn't take that long ... and I didn't even know what I was doing back then. Argh.

Also, would you like anything specific for Lileep such as a starter? (Though I haven't migrated any Torchics, Cyndaquils, or Totodiles yet.) Pokérus is cured after 24 hours on the party from the time of infection
Bullshit. :| I transferred the Pokerus that was on Kuno's Magikarp onto several of my creatures Friday evening; while each of these has been "boxed" since Friday night, four (Staraptor, Steelix, Machoke, and Bibarel) have spent much more than twenty-four hours out of the PC with the virus. Does it have to be 24 hours straight? Even still, Staraptor has spent nearly (if not over) 24 hours straight out of the box. FUCK if I deposited him in the box at 23 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds or some such.
Can anybody confirm what it takes / how long it takes for the Pokerus to vanish in D/P and for your creatures to begin sporting the :| emoticon instead of the PKRS label? I really want to go take on the Elite 4, but I also don't want to be restricted in who I can use, and I also don't want Staraptor or Steelix to spread the disease to Torterra or Mismagius.
Long-winded explanation follows
Explanation of what I'm thinking I'll have to do, but why I don't like it one little bit: I currently have the lineup as Torterra, Mismagius, Staravia (for the Fly HM), finished Munchlax, infected Staraptor, and infected Steelix. Munchlax is thus keeping the previous three creatures safe from the bottom, infected two. However, as we all know, ever since Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, swapping a guy out of battle and putting another guy in his place causes those guys to "swap positions" on the team lineup for the duration of that battle. And I'm afraid that that's going to be cause enough to spread the disease from Torterra to Staraptor if I swap out (say) Torterra for Staraptor. (Since Torterra would then be right next to Steelix, and Staraptor would officially be the leader, putting him next to Mismagius.) So, the way I see it, if I intend to beat the Elite 4 today, here's what I'm going to have to do: have "two separate teams". Which really sucks. I'm going to have to either JUST use Torterra or Mismagius for some battles, or I'm going to have to JUST use Staraptor and Steelix for other battles. And for the battles where I plan to use Staraptor and Steelix, I'm going to have to pre-emptively switch the line up to become Staraptor, Steelix, finished Munchlax, Staravia, Mismagius, and Torterra (thus, an inversion of the original line-up, and thus avoiding any complications of having an infected "leader" next to a non-infected 2nd-in-line dude).
This, of course, is a bitch. :| And my fears may be completely unfounded, but I won't know until it's too late. (I suppose I could try doing it a few times in Victory Road, but I can't shake the fear that the Elite 4 might operate differently since you're fighting 6 creatures in one battle [and thus the chances for the phage to spread are multiplied by 6] rather than just fighting one at a time as you would in the wild.) So ....... I REALLY want this fucking Pokerus cured off of Staraptor and Steelix (to the :| emoticon stage of existence) asap. Because I don't want it to fucking spread to Torterra or Mismagius. Because the emoticon is ugly. -_-;
And Loki, I hate you. I wrote this at 1pm, hit submit, and went afk. Fucking a. Kuno, is there a goddamn way to disable the "A new post has been made; you may wish to review your reply in light of this." I HATE THIS FEATURE OF THE FORUM.

Haven't tried yet. I'm contemplating downloading my Umbreon and T-tar from Colosseum so I can stand a chance (my FRLG pokemon are in the 50s), and to do that I need to unearth my GBA charger, etc. I'll try to go at it tomorrow.
I planned a contest team (though I still need to plan a tough Pokemon) that'll hopefully not suck. The contests in this gen actually look fun enough to work on a team for.

According to PsyPokes (haven't even touched that domain in years!), it took approximately 3 days in RuSa. However, I've come to this conclusion (and hence why everybody's full of shit when they claim they know how long the virus lasts) ...
1 - while it is true that "time stops" when you deposit it in the PC ...
2 - it is not true that the virus expires if a Poke has been in the main team for 24, 48, or 72 real-world hours
3 - what is true is, "The virus (likely) expires after the Pokemon has spent a cumulative X hours outside of the PC," where X is likely some number far larger than I want it to be (probably 12 or 24)
So ... it looks like I'm sort of screwed, then. :| My next test? I'm going to go challenge the Elite 4 without saving (pretty daunting -.-, especially if I get really far only to fail because I sent the wrong team out). My plan is as follows:
- Aaron gets the Staraptor/Steelix team
- Bertha (who I finally got to) gets the Torterra/Misdreavus team
- ??? gets Staraptor/Steelix until I find out I'm screwed, in which case, reset the DS and try again
- ??? gets Torterra/Misdreavus since I'm going to assume they're the token dragon trainer
- ??? gets Torterra/Misdreavus, since I'm going to have to pray that I can kick their ass with my big Torterra
But it's going to suck. Hardcore. Because it's never fun fighting the Elite 4 with only two Pokemon. -.- Not unless they're Level 100 and you're just toying with them. XD

Talon, I got your IMs and I'm not 100% sure what your question is, so I'll just spit out what I think the answer should be.
You're asking if the the Base Stat is X and your Pokemon's Stat at L50 is X+Y, does that mean your IV is Y?
Close, but maybe not.
The stats formula for non-HP stats is:
(((Level/100 x ((Base x 2) + IV + (EV / 4))) + 5) = Stat
So mathematically, we should change it to be easier. A = Level. B = Base. C = IV. D = EV, and X = your current Stat. Then it would look like:
(A/100 x (2B + C + D/4)) + 5 = X
So now we need to find for C so it would be changed to:
(X - 2B - D/4) / A/100 = C
or
(X -2B - D/4) x 100/A = C
I think....
Anyway, the numbers you spat out sound right. 10 or 11 is the most likely IV as Level 50 is where there's only like 2 possible IVs at that point.
HP is different and I'm too tired/lazy to really type about it, but here's the HP Stat Formula if you want to handle the math on your own:
HP = (Level/100 x ((Base x 2) + IV + (EV / 4))) + 10 + Level
Also, just in case people care about battling, remember that Leftovers heals exactly 1/16th your max HP and it's rounds down to a whole number, so if your Pokemon has max HP of 294, but it will be holding Leftovers, you may want to consider lowering it to 288, as Leftovers will still give the same about of healing and you could invest the other 6 points into something else like Attack or something.
NOTE: I used Dusknoir as the example.

I spent about an hour (at least it felt like that long) Thieving Chanseys and finally got a Lucky Egg! Yes, I could have levelled my monsters over the time it took to get it, but this item is pretty much a must have for me since it'll see plenty of use on multiple monsters and is, therefore, a worthwhile investment of time.
Ditto is hideously rare. ._. Sucks that third-gen Dittos won't work with Everstone. However, I got an extra Modest Ditto if anyone's interested in it.

Wait a moment. I heard that in order to get a National Pokedex, you are required to complete the siting of all Pokemon in the Sinnoh Pokedex. But someone has told me that Manaphy is only available through Pokemon Rangers, so does that mean I need Pokemon Rangers to see a Manaphy to get the National Pokedex? Is there a Manaphy that you can see in the game or something?
NOTE: I will not buy Pokemon Rangers. That game sucked in so many ways. Although, I might know a guy with it and if possible, I'll get it from him. Worst case scenario, I rent it off Gamefly and hope someone already beat it before they sent it back and I just leech off them.
Also, tomorrow and Tuesday I'll be at work and I'll try to see if I can connect online through my boss' FiOs connection. If I can, I'll post here telling everyone my friend code and during my lunch break (12 noon EST), I'll be on for a half hour. I might occasionally sneak into the bathroom and get a few more minutes in, but there's no set time or guarantee I'll be doing that. Maybe I'll call Kuno in the bathroom at best xd.
So if I can connect at work, my lunch break will be my regular WiFi time every Mon-Weds. If not... things will suck.
Loki, if you started with Chimchar, you can use Taunt to stop them from teleporting. They will struggle and it does puny damage. But, they still hurt themselves, so don't try to beat the crap out of them and catch because you might lose em. Also, Manaphy isn't considered a part of the Sinnoh 200. Any event esque pokemon are voided from the requirements. It is possible to see all the pokemon in the game without trading. There is a lady after the E4 who will show you a pic of the other versions legend so you can add it to your dex.
BTW, easiest way to figure out ivs is to take a raw pokemon and fight someone online, setting levels to 100. It gives your raw level 100 stats, which gives exact ivs. Quite time consuming, but worth it if you ask me. Takes longer to soft reset 6 times, each time spending 5 minute rare candying.

I hatched a adamant ralts, so now I am going to breed my mudkip with my rhyhorn to get a nifty new mudkip for SI to use. What would be a good personality for mudkip btw? I am thinking about making him my bulky water type that stealth rocks, abuses earthquake and stone edge, and yet I am deciding if I should make him learn roar or some other support move like that.
Edit: One last thing: How much ev points do you get if you equip a pogeyman with a macho brace and battle with it?
All the evs multiply by two. I find that the power items are better to use though.
I enjoy Relaxed on my Swamperts. Stone Edge is a no-no on Swampert. I enjoy either Surf or an Ice beam for the utility clean up. Roar is nice.

Not looking for anything in particular, or at least not at the moment. =\ I have Diamond as well so all my bases are covered there, and the only Pokemon I'm really looking for are Ho-oh (unless I get of my butt and do Mt. Battle in Colosseum) or a Bold natured 4th-gen Ditto/Feebas (because catching Ditto in this game suuuucks and even though I got Adamant and Modest Dittos I got a bunch of other natures including repeats). I would also ask for shinies (particularly Skarmory, Eevee/Umbreon, Growlithe/Arcanine, starting route birds, or Vulpix/Ninetales), but I have nothing worth trading that I'm willing to trade (except for Mewtwo, which I'm already trading to Kuno for PokeAIDs).
That said, you can just trade over a Bidoof or something. P:
EDIT: I think I might just compose an organized trade list of sorts of Pokemon I'm offering and what I would want; I think there is a Pokemon I'd really like to have that I don't have access to but I just can't remember it off the tip of my tongue since (almost) 500 Pokemon are hard to keep track of. :| I'm simply more into giving away rarities than receiving, though.

Emerald said it was flat-out incompatible, and Ruby said "but you already got one!", so ... buyer beware. I don't know of any way to "spawn Jirachis" using the Colo disc other than to hard-reset Ruby and Sapphire. Sounds really shitty. (a.k.a. Don't ask me to spawn Jirachi. -.-)

HOORAY! >D I finally beat the Elite 4. Spoilers below:
Level 50 Staraptor did a nice job against Aaron with one exception: his Level 57 Drapion. Yeouch. I switched out to Steelix, had Steelix weaken the Drapion (and take the fall), and then ko'ed Drapion with a fast Brave Bird.
Bertha was retardedly easy with a Level 77 Torterra. RIDICULOUS. How many of her creatures were 4x weak to grass? XFD Whiscash, Golem, and I know I'm forgetting one more (the first one she sends out).
Flint was pretty damned awesome, and would get my award for "Best E4 + Champion Member" if not for the incredibly sexy, the incredibly kick-ass Cynthia. (And, if you recall, I love the name 'Cynthia'. Total sexy bonus points right there.) Anyway, about Flint. :oops: I like how he's one of the first Elite 4 members (if not the first) to have a team that doesn't conform to a single creature type. I wanted to peg him as a fire-type (which is pretty wicked since we've never seen a fire trainer in the Elite 4 before!), but Drifblim and somebody else (I forget) throw a kink into the works. He's not strictly fire. Hell, his Infernape scared me more with his Earthquake than with anything else. (As I didn't expect an Infernape to be sporting EQ! 8O Didn't hurt Torterra, though, and I was grateful he wasted his turn not using fire to burninate me.)
The Psychic dude ... I forget his name (whoops :oops: ), but he wasn't too bad. Level 53 Mismagius became Level 54 Mismagius thanks to this dude. ^_^;
And then ... we have Cynthia. Beautiful, powerful Cynthia. Hot damn, I wish she had offered more of a challenge. ^_^; I can see how she might have if your monsters were all Level 60 or below. She had some sweet creatures (except for Gastrodon :P), and they would have been pretty scary without my Level 77 ... wait, Level 78 Torterra using Earthquake, Wood Hammer, and Crunch. Oh, Cynthia ... I look forward to fighting you again. Totally smitten. :3

Talon: So?
ZJ: That, like, makes you a lesbian.
Talon: Hey, it could happen!

I've seen 149 Pokemon. 149. Stupid friggin' Azelf. -.- I spent all morning effort training Bronzong in Special Defense with the express purpose of making him a special sponge to handle Azelf. That is his sole purpose in life -- to wall against Azelf, to Hypnotize Azelf, and to help me capture Azelf. Too bad he's failed in that mission at least once since hitting Level 50 and having 108 effort points invested into SpDef. I'm thinking about investing another 100 or so into HP, but I don't know of any good HP training grounds. :| Here's the way I see it ........
- if you want to train in Special Attack, go to the Haunted Mansion, since it's 100% Gastly family
- if you want to train in Special Defense, surf north of Gym 8, since it's 80% Tentacruel
- if you want to train in Special Attack and Speed, go to the Lost Tower, where it's mostly Gastly and Zubat
- if you want to train in Attack and Speed, go to Victory Road and fight Machokes and Golbats
- if you want to train in Defense and Special Defense, again, north of Gym 8, since 15% of the creatures are Pelipper
But other than that, I'm sort of stumped. :| I have no idea where to train for tanks (e.g. Rhyperior), and I have absolutely no idea where I can find an area populated mostly (80%+) by HP effort creatures. Help? :(

Or, if it comes faster, I'll get it from the in-game story.

YO, ichimaru, two questions:
1 - how could you possibly say something like "I prefer the other items over Macho Brace" when you're not even half way through the game? o.o You can't get the other items until you've beaten the Elite 4. Don't tell me you've lapped me, too. -.-;
2 - 3-4 pm PST, you said. Well, that would make it the inconvenient 6-7pm EST. :roll: But, yeah, I can try. No promises. :| That's dinnertime. Anyway, the Misdreavus are just sitting tight. Uninfected, still. I ought to go infect them.

Can anyone give me 2 burmy for the Macho Brace? <.< I finally got a Magcargo for breeding but the GTS is super ultra gay for trading. All the burmy there are asking for legendaries or lvl100 pokes or fully evolved starters level 9 or lower. -.-
I managed to find one but I can't find two more. I keep getting stupid wurmples. Can anyone trade me? :3
I have steel and ground Burmies if you'd like.
Also? I'm having some second thoughts on trading away Mewtwo for Pokerus, since I'm not sure if it's even worth the trouble on my end to find my GBA charger, download some Pokemon from the Gamecube who could stand a chance in Cerluean Cave, go through the cave, use a Masterball or spend a while catching Mewtwo, then trade it off in an instant, especially since I won't utilize the Pokerus immediately.
Then again, I'm quite exhausted (no overnight sleep) at the moment. =_=
Sorry for getting your hopes up then being a disappointment, but I hope you'll understand. ._.
Oh, and Talon, there's an easy Metal Coat at the house on Iron Island. You might have to get the National Dex and do the sidequest involving the sailor's son in Canalave City beforehand, but it's super short.

FYI, I produced Jirachi (from the Colo bonus disc) on Ruby, traded him to Emerald, and then tried to produce him on both Ruby and Emerald. This was back in 2005. -.-)
You need to restart Ruby/Sapphire/FR/LG. I did that to get like 4 Jirachis. All with horrible personalities xd. *was hoping for Timid* And again, I don't remember which berries I got. I think I got Salac... I wanted to find Liechi, only to hear you get it from that awful, "I can see past the fog!" island or the E-Reader with the right cards. F*** YOU NINTENDO! The Eon Ticket was annoying enough.
Oh yeah, my Ruby has the Eon Ticket, so if people want to Swap Data IRL through OLD FASHIONED RUBY, I can get them the Eon Ticket for the... [insert the name of the special Item Lati@s holds]
