Breaking news, FUNimation has just bought the rights to the anime One Piece out of 4Kids dead hands. Marketing Director Lance Heiskell of FUNimation states, “FUNimation will now be working on the adaptation of the One Piece anime. We have all DVD rights to the One Piece TV series, and we’ll be working on new episodes that will air on Cartoon Network in August.â€Â

But the best news so far is that they are using an entirely new cast, though it is currently unknown whether or not they will re-dub the old episodes. According to Heiskell the television version will still be ‘PG’ but any and all DVD releases will be uncut. This is what we, pirate otaku, have all were waiting for; thank you FUNimation. Check out the rest of anime online’s exclusive interview with Lance Heiskell here.

Oh, this is VGM, by the way, in case the name wasn't obvious or anything.

REJOICE! SUCK IT, 4KIDS!

Dunno if I should be happy or sad. This is a big deal if you download OP since FUNimation is more strict with fan-subbing then 4Kids was.

Ambivalent news. FUNimation is my favoruite anime company, and by Monday it'll be my favourite anime company that I am a shareholder in. It's also cool because Arlong Park is the centre of everything.

...

On the other hand, OP is a diseased and rotting anime, so there's a good chance it'll fail. Still, I wouldn't jump ship for the world; if my .5K disappears, that's fine with me this one time.

You're investing $500 in an anime company!? O_o

And Toonami saves another one.

4Kids One Piece was watchable to me aside from the puns. Don't really care for Funimation but less puns and less skipped episodes are good I guess.

I heard that 4Kids mutilated about 6 episodes and turned it into one bad episode because the 6 episodes had too much violence. They ended up turning it into an episode that made absolutely no sense because of what they cut out too.

So assuming Funiamtion doesn't do that, they're automatically better.

FUNimation basically won't touch the episodes too violent for TV that 4Kids had to butcher; they're still heavily editing OP, but none of 4Kids' worthless changes (like the music + pun deals) will be maintained.

There will be some stronger edits, though; the fantasy violence will be reduced, so whenever Luffy punches someone, we won't see the actual connection.

Set fail for One Piece.

Somehow I don't think this is Funimations doing however. Cartoon Network is probably afraid of losing current OP viewers and/or having two "Naruto's." If it manages to stay on the air I'm sure that over time such restrictions will be lifted but it sucks we'll have to put up with watered down OP abit longer.

I've been meaning to ask this for a while, but Lindsay, are you an /a/rsehole? You seem to have an unusual familiarity with the memes that get processed through there. o_O;

Not strictly. I also do /v/ and browse /co/. >_>;

Incidentally I've been missing OP alot lately. Even if it is butchered falling behind is no good. Are they still in Alabasta? Grrr... I wish Toonami would group the few shows I watch closer together. >.<
